Respect to father Garcia the absolute legend of this game, He shows up, says his one liners, does some of the most hardcore shit in the game and refuses to elaborate what an icon
I love how John's reaction after getting thrown down a flight of stairs, probably getting a concussion, and seeing a skeletal woman holding a baby is just "...I'm leaving now."
i can’t be the only one losing my mind over the implications of father garcia showing up to save john with a shotgun and saying ‘Don’t be afraid, John’ like a biblical angel
Great, now I imagine a biblically accurate angel descending upon a group of demons with a pump action blasting away as the rapture happens. Thanks for that
Dude, Father Garcia saying 'Don't be afraid, John" before pumping the shotgun and then just blasting Gary over and over is one of the most badass things. The art style of this game makes it even more impactful.
Reminds me of how when Angels interact with people they say "Be not afraid" (usually cause they're eldritch nightmares sometimes), making Garcia John's guardian Angel.
The "Don't be afraid John" *cocks shotgun* is one of my favorite cutscenes in any of the games I've played like it was so perfectly timed story-wise and just badass
He didn’t do that. It’s an edit. He said don’t be afraid in chapter 2 but wasn’t cocking shotgun. In chapter 3 he cocked shotgun and said it’s nice to finally meet you, not don’t be afraid.
@@deejaythedeejayeven cooler because of how much he was hyped up in the first 2 chapters and then you finally meet him in person for real and he acknowledges it
@@deejaythedeejay It is DEFINITELY not an edit. He says "Don't be afraid, John", cocks his shotgun, and says "It's nice to finally meet you" after he drives Gary back. I checked a playthrough to be sure. He also says "Don't be afraid, John" in chapter 2, and if Chapter 2 is John being given a premonition, Garcia showing up at the last minute to save him with that one liner is the premonition coming true.
the rotoscope of john standing there after exorcising amy, holding his cross, bathed in blood, has to be one of the hardest images ever, up there with garcia with the shotgun by far.
I think, the saddest and most tragic victim, is the low income apartment tennent. He already lived next to a priest and likely had been listening to that demon for weeks. Probably worked a low income service job and one day just gets smoked by the Rake coming home from work. Mortis indeed Mr apartment man
At the end when John is soaked in blood and holding his cross before saying "Amen." Is really cool. It's like the entire game was a prayer he was saying for God to give him strength to overcome his demons. Loved this game.
John truly is a gigachad at the end. He had endured so much and comes out on top against the forces of evil and finally writing the wrong he had commited so long ago.
"Damn it John, in this Church we work by the book, you're too much of a loose Canon!!" "Screw the book, I'm doing what needs to be done!!" "Sign....hand in your crucifix and Bible, I'm not going to let your crusade stain the cassock" "Take it all...all I need...is FAITH!!!" *cue Faith by George Michael*
@@vincentadultman6226 "Father Garcia, no offense, but we're getting pretty surrounded by demons right now. Don't you have a plan? I have a baaad feeling about this." "John, do not be afraid, all we need..." *pumps shotgun* "is alot more faith."
It's so touching that Wendigoon is so humble that he was willing to make a reference to such a small low income youtuber like Pyrocynical. Truly one of the youtube moments of all time
4:15:10 theres a big difference between this and the flashback. John isn't reading from the bible this time. He memorized the remaining passage in the hope that he would be able to save her one day. He never truly lost faith
It makes sense that the only demon to appear in all three chapters is the mirror demon. Nothing haunts and torments John more than himself and the darkness he’s unable to remove regardless of his devotion to god and the faith. All the people he couldn’t save or wasn’t enough to protect, like the Martin family and the other children who died when he didn’t, who he feels personally responsible for. His greatest personal demon is his own reflection.
4:15:22 the rotoscope image goes so hard. You can see how exhausted John is, but at the same time you also see the strength and renewed faith he has retained. With the music music thats playing and the overall context. Man this part is awesome.
Overall, the interactions characterized in the comment seem realistic and credible. Though it would be interesting to know more about each exchange, they offer an overall evocative impression of a close, longstanding relationship. Awn7mFktpB4
Top 3 coolest kinds of people -Priest with Shotgun -Hobo with Shotgun -Grannies with a shotgun Seriously Father Garcia is an absolute treasure. He always knew he can’t just sit by and let God do all the work.
I think its impressive John, in the span of one year, was accused of butchering a family, sent to a psych ward, exonerated for murder, released from the psych ward, met a woman, fell in love, got married, and then got divorced. What a year.
Also fought multiple demons and stopped a cult from bringing about Armageddon. I'm imagining that after the ending where he goes with Lisa, he ends up living a fairly normal life and he occasionally thinks back and goes: "Man, 1987 was one crazy year."
I just noticed that, after John gets grabbed by the demon in the clinic on Day 1 of Chapter 3, when you have to hide while on the stretcher, you can clearly see the Loss meme on one of the curtains which is both hilarious and absolutely twisted
I like the Alu subplot a lot cause its just kinda funny that a demon summoning cult would look at a demon and go "Uh, we don't know why he's here, and tbh we didn't really want him here, just try your best to ignore him"
Same vibe with the elevator demon. Gary is like "Uhhh, we have a very special visitor and he can go in any of your rooms in the building. If you see him, go sit somewhere dark and ignore him. If he decides to just live in your room, well, don't go into his hole. If you hear anyone else go into his hole, I'll get their bodies later. Also, don't forget to give rent and utilities which are due on Friday ."
peekaboo demon "guys he doesn't bite just dont move when you see him, vice versa. also reminder not to flush anything other than toilet paper in your bathrooms I don't like having to go up the elevator fixing everything"
The first time I played this, I did the stupid thing of walking down the road, obviously the truck came along and in a panic, I whipped out my crucifix and the truck flattened me. a) Crosses do not work on trucks. At least not on this truck. b) This encounter made me laugh so hard I nearly choked. I was immediately sold. I LOVE this game.
Imagine driving down some dark country road and then suddenly there's this guy in the middle of the road holding up a cross like he thinks your truck is a ten ton Dracula. Personally I'd never recover from that.
John's seen all the demons and horrifying shit and is haunted with failing to exorcise Amy and looked at this random woman and went "Aight I'm bout to head out"
The idea that John without any moral inhibitions can just break loose and tear apart and massacre a group of cult members with his bare hands is some insane imagery. Kinda badass I can’t lie.
From an outsiders perspective, John must be a really scary criminal. Not only can he rip people apart with his bare hands, but from that hospital note. He just seemingly knows where people are.
Regarding John's "vision from God", I agree. It's been said that God uses his angels to give messages to mortals because to hear God's voice unprotected would be so glorious and so perfect that a human being would die from its overwhelming authority. A being of white light speaking directly to John would have to be an angel. And who is (was) the angel of light? That's right. Lucifer the Morningstar. Appearing to John in his original form, but so twisted that to listen to his demands you couldn't mistake him for an angel unless you were terrified out of your mind. Now, ngl, being raised catholic, the first thing I'd be doing would be invoking Saint Michael in a panic. I ain't equipped to fight demons, I'm going to have to phone a friend to tag in for me here.
It would be so fun to face the literary the devil and just going "remember the guy who beat your ass so hard you went to hell and you will lose again against him in the end of times? Yeah, let me call him"
Also a great glimpse into how John might become in the future. As badass as Father Garcia is, nobody is born that way, and he likely became the shotgun-wielding, one-liner dropping, demon slayer we know through terrible horrors and deeply traumatizing moments that he found it in himself to push past and use it as knowledge and experience to help handle things better in the future. On the other hand, what we experience in the game is John's trial and judgment. The question is whether he would emerge from the Hellfire as a traitor who succumbed to the temptations of demons, as another tragic casualty in the war between good and evil, as a scared and broken man who never wishes to face the devil again, or as a battle-hardened warrior of God worthy of carrying the torch passed by Father Garcia.
Be like lisa >got possessed by a powerful demon >pulled out a smoke after being exorcised >still lived here after everything happened >win the idgaf war
Does anyone else think it's a bit heartening and sad that Greta, the dog that was with the orphanage kids, was willing to charge out into the corn field and try to protect the kids from whatever was out there? She was an old dog from a line that worked with missionaries, so she might have had an idea or was breed to help deal with what was out there, but she still went out to try and protect them all from the thing terrorizing them. She might have even been doing well, considering how things were quiet for a full two days, before it finally got her, but that might have been her trying to buy time for them to get out and they just didn't know what that was what she was doing... Sad, but she still tried to protect them like her ancestors did in the past, even after all that time...
Fun fact (Spoilers): There's a reason why Gary will answer questions from John, and it isn't just "Haha, I'm evil, look at my plan!" It's because in demonology, Astaroth is the demonic prince of accusers and inquisitors. While being referenced in 2k B.C., a lot of info on him comes from the 16th century, where many demonologists have similar tales of Astaroth corrupting through knowledge, and being willing to answer any question put forth to him, since he loves the psychological/knowledge aspect of corruption. Beelzebub the Pestilent/Gluttonous, Lucifer the Tyrannical, and Astaroth the Corruptor, if you will. Astaroth would take souls in exchange for knowledge (e.g. giving math/science eurekas, or unveiling hidden treasure, etc)
@@Meowmeowimthebiggestcat tl:dr Astaroth likes to troll people by giving them knowledge that will either regret understanding or end up fucked up one way or another
Nah they worked at the same clinic right? They’ve probably met and Tiffany just silently seethed over this teenager(?) who Gary chose to be mutilated and possessed by a demon instead of her
Halfway through the video, it dawned on me who it was, and after that I couldn't stop grinning whenever a Gary letter popped up. I know what I'm commenting on his next upcoming video(s)... whenever that is and if I remember.
John: “My cross is losing its luminosity because I don’t feel like my efforts are having much effect…” Garcia, with a shotgun: “Strange, mijo, I don’t have that problem.”
I like to imagine John just walking around after a certain point, kneeling down to pick up notes and nonchalantly pointing the cross at the demons. Just an air of, "I'm so fucking tired of this," around this man's entire being.
I imagine a VERY deep nose inhale and sigh, as he pinches the bridge of his nose and raises the crucifix. "Really, Malphas? A-fucking-gain? Chill out" and the demon's writhing
2:50:34 I just realised that since Gary is Astaroth and Gary is doing these extremely mundane landlord things like asking for rent and utilities that means Astaroth is doing these extremely mundane landlord things and I cannot stop laughing
@@lemonlemon7932ah yes, every singular landlord in the world is evil … you people are delusional. Some, probably a lot, are greedy and shitty landlords, but the position itself isn’t ‘evil’. There’s nothing evil about providing a home for someone that is looking for one. Land and buildings cost money to purchase and upkeep, they don’t just appear out of thin air, sorry commie. What do you do to make money ? Do you even have a job ?
SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE VIDEO/GAME YET!! I don’t know exactly why, but the reveal that John was one of the twins that survived Miriam Bell absolutely stunned me. Like jaw on the floor. That was the moment where all the pieces clicked for me. What a game, and what a story.
It's actually a very common plot twist where the MC turns out to be the extension, offspring, or somehow deeply connected to the final boss in the past in many fiction works. Like one example I could think of is when Ichigo, the main character from the manga Bleach, is actually a hybrid of human, shinigami (first antagonist), hollow (second antagonist), and even a freaking quincy (final antagonist). It makes the final battle more personal and gives so much closure for the ending. But that plot twist of John caught me off guard too somehow. I legit like went, "Holy crap wow!" when that was revealed 😅
Amy asking "am I pretty" sounds like a reference to the Japanese Folklore, Kuchisake-onna who asked the same thing to her victims before showing her disfigured face
Its not the typical "i'm guilty because I couldn't save her" trope that gets me. Nah. Its the "i'm guilty because, in my cowardice, I condemned a soul to death and bottomless torment" twist that makes this an outstanding story for me. 10/10. I can't wait for a movie or hopefully series adaptation. Can't wait for the Garcia shotgun scene. I truly think this story has more depth than the conjuring.
I'd almost be worried a media adaption won't do the game justice, or they wouldn't go as hard. If someone lets Airdorf have significant creative control and input, and will let the feature go as dark as it needs, by all means throw money at him for a film or maybe a mini series.
Good adaptations are hard though. In general there's this conundrum of mimicking the game too exactly versus changing way too much and totally missing the spirit of the original. It's difficult to strike the right balance and people don't universally agree on what the right balance is.
@@GrimReadercame here to say the same thing lmfao, they’re not even in the same league. I mean we’re not talking about house of leaves… it’s the conjuring 😂
Great video, I listen to it a lot. I get the feeling the John's goofy scream is there as a brief light-hearted moment in between the REALLY intense sections of the clinic.
Also, slight musings on how significant it is that Gary says "Gary does not love you!" as one of his final words to you if you get the true final boss. I mean just think about it. It's his catchphrase that he loves people. It's what he keeps telling his cultists and even enemies. Well, one of two things. The other is that he's a normal human being. And his visual design supports this kind of idea. His being is entirely defined by his two great lies: One that he is human and that he loves everybody. Throughout the game, even when he is mocking and sneering at John, he never goes so far to actually exude hate like, say, Tiffany does. In fact he goes the opposite route and acts charismatic, friendly, supportive even, praising people all the time and telling them how much he misses them and such. He acts similarly with his enemies even. He never calls John bad words, never curses at him, even sarcastically questions if John is on his side. Even when mentioning that John stopped his plans by going back to Amy, Gary kinda waves the question aside and says something like "But then you went and...took care of that." Gary's entire persona is defined by him appearing like a normal human being and having this friendly, jovial outside that is the perfect mask for the demented, hideous things he does and wants on the inside. So after considering ALL of this to know just what kind of person Gary is, both as a mask and as a demon of deception...just imagine how pissed off he is that he openly gives you the antithesis of his catchphrase. I mean even as a demon, Gary is defined by him saying "Gary loves you" in a way that begets ownership. He loves you, so you belong to him. This goes on in a lot of notes on repeat. So imagine the elemental, near feral rage he is feeling right there to make him say "I don't love you. I don't want you. Go away!" essentially. Truly puts into perspective how much of a thorn in his side John is. That Gary willingly removes his mask, both his physical human shape and his jovial, friendly attitude and basically screams at you to go away and stop bothering him. All this emotion and meaning delivered in five little words...
So fun fact, Wendigoon's voice lulls me to sleep. I have restarted this video multiple times because I keep falling asleep within 10 minutes of me starting it, so I'm getting this story piece by piece while giving this video multiple views
Another way to apply the metals of Father Ward's crucifix would be the imagery used in the tabernacle. Gold represents holiness and was used for the ark, the mercy seat etc. Silver represented separation and was used for anything that touched the ground so the tabernacle would be separated from the sinful world. Bronze is symbolic of judgement and was used for the alter of burnt offerings. In chapter one, John is an ordained priest, holy to the Lord. In chapter two, he has been separated from his ministry. In chapter three, he is an instrument of judgement upon Gary. And, at the end, he is restored to his former station, not by the church, but immediately by God.
Something to note is that Alu does not appear in the lore of Abrahamic religions whatsoever. An Alu is a species of malevolent Sumerian demon, arguably much older historically than anything in the Abrahamic religions. My head canon is that Alu in the game is an entity altogether separate from the Cult or Hell, though still very malevolent. Its unwanted summoning and appearance, as well as Gary's apprehension towards it, suggests it is competition for the Cult / Antichrist, not an assistant for it. An agent of Hell wouldn't deliberately attempt to frustrate the summoning of the Antichrist, and as a demon himself, Gary / Astaroth should be able to communicate with it - but can't.
Well, if we take the easter egg with the other cult leaders and the eldritch thing gifted to Gary seriously, we can say that other mythology exist in universe. Alu being a demon from a different mythos is totally plausible.
I also like hearing Cdawgva in this and the cruelty squad video. Really enjoy all these long analysis videos on UA-cam as they help me sleep but also get through work
FAITH has such a cool art style. It's genuinely unsettling despite intentionally being in a medium that allows for such little detail. But it makes those full-screen moments of smooth animation hit ask the harder.

Lisa possibly being John's twin sister would explain how she was so chill after being possesed. She's seen this kind of stuff before, and just wants to get this over with so she can move on. (Although, this revelation might disappoint people who thought that she was John's new romantic interest)
Yeah lol, I always thought Lisa was John's new love interest after Molly left him. When I heard Wendi say they were twins, I was instantly shocked and realized the conversations they have does work better if you consider their relationship as twins instead of lovers. Guess that's why you should read the lore before shipping people together huh?
@@philleotardo7016 I know, they shared a step-sibling bond. Regardless of what media likes to tell you, step-siblings are still siblings, especially when growing up together from a young age.
But didn’t airdorf refer to them as girlfriend/boyfriend in the interview with wendigoon? Edit: I’m genuinely asking bc i thought he did, but im not sure :/
SPOILERS: I think the bird in Amy’s poem/riddle is John. All the colors of the symbols coordinate with their respective people (the chalice being pink, the star being red) and the bird is the same blue as John. Around 3:21:00 or so Wendigoon talks about how John is one of the original 12 kids who Sister Bell originally tried to sacrifice, which lines up perfectly with the line about the bird: “spirit bird arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost”. He’s coming back to finish what he started, whether he wants to or not. I could also be delusional so who knows
WAIT OK I just had a moment where something clicked for me: real birds show up a lot in Ch3, I'm thinking specifically of the dead bird outside the clinic and then in the maze-ish situation when you get jumpscared by birds flying at the fence. Obviously the first is symbolic for "bad things here", or more specifically, "bad things for John here", knowing that he'll be following the trail bc this is a trap. ...A trap. The birds in the fence later are TRAPPED. Maybe this is nothing but it does feed my theory that John is and was always going to be the portal to hell, as per Gary's "and sometime's, one [a portal] comes walking right up to you...hello John" Anyway, I will continue to freak out about this
1:06:25 compared to markiplier who started laughing the moment the tree ran off. also thank you for being so thorough with the story, I'm a huge wimp with horror games and can't play them myself but I love learning about the stories behind them and Faith got on my radar a while ago, and your video is the best explanation of the story I've found.
3:09:26 why is it so funny to me seeing John using his cross on random harmless toys. I can picture him getting frantic and paranoiac everywhere he goes
@@BWMagus Crucifixes, especially ones made out of metal, are particularly heavy (and I doubt John would get plastic/wooden crucifixes seeing as he prefers the metallic ones). It'll slow you a _lot_ down if you're trying to get away from demons. Plus it'd be pretty hard to keep metal sown on your robes.
There’s another part where John was using his cross on a dude that was absolutely totaled barely able to crawl around and it’s funny cause John was the cause of all that carnage and yet he still holds the cross up
2:55:11 Fun fact, this is actually a reference to a japanese ritual called "The elevator game.". Its likely why the woman appears to be wearing a kimono even though you are nowhere near japan in this story. Answering or looking at her of course results in death, just as the story of the ritual states.
If i had a nickel for every time there was a popular indie horror game series with atari-inspired visuals to emphasize the retro 80s timeline where there was a purple character that had a seperate appearance where they were more pink thus leading to questions of if the same character or if it's a seperate character all together, i would have two nickels.
I realize Gary is just a human like you and me. All the horrors build him up to be a visual monster. But then you see him and he really is a human just like you and me, a human can be like that. And that is just as terrifying. I love how differently the”humanity is the scariest” concept is shown in horror even if im extremely late to realize
Also the parallels to Jesus(or maybe John the Baptist). Gary is just human but also the messenger of the unholy trinity, he is the Way for the demonic invasion and the anti-Christ.
One really funny death that wasn't mentioned (unless I'm mistaken) in chapter 3, if you go out the front door while exploring the daycare the cops think the priest's crucifix is a gun and they shoot him over and over, even has a cutscene.
1:13:11 That note makes the entire game better all by itself, the moment where it just shifts from something you would read on a regular news paper suddenly becomes a direct attack at john for the sins he had committed. Plus the voice acting and the music in the video heightening the build up of the end of a note. This video game is amazing, and this video displays just how good the game is.
I feel like there’s two ways of interpreting that note: 1. John isn’t the saintly person we think he is, and he’s committed murders off screen 2. John IS a good person, a fragile person who is easily manipulated by guilt, and Gary, being a charismatic, gaslighting cult leader, is trying to manipulate John into taking credit for things Gary himself did.
@@governor_explosion My interpretation is that the note is talking about the members we saw at cementery and its trying to manipulate john into thinking that those werent demons he exorcised and that they were real people who John Ward actually killed
It’s incredibly ironic for me that the cult leader is named Gary. When I was a teenager I got involved in what I can only describe as an extremely abusive miniature cult and the leader of that was also named Gary.
I think the most messed up part about this that wendigoon doesn't directly mention at least durring day 1 of part 3, if the cult owns this prenatal clinic they probably forced misscaeages onto these pregnant women and then convinced them the cult could help them see their children despite the fact the only reason they lost the child was the cult.
@@EluneMoonglade A mix of both could make sense, the live babies could mostly be from those already devoted to the cult minimizing any public outrage, and the intentional miscarriages could be targeted against those that were neutral but could be easily manipulated
I think the story about the woman having a miscarriage then seeing that creepy lady pregnant could be one of their tactics,, basically stealing their baby and then probably using their grief to manipulate them
I honestly love that once John gets injected with the drug he just went full on doom Slayer, but still took the time to paint in blood 'REPENT' in perfectly legible writing. Like "I want to brutally murder them, but I also want to save their souls."
After reading this comment, I found the words I was lookin for to describe that. I'd like to say: brutally save them. Brutally because man he is going to town but to be fair they're demons and it's the best way. But REPENT in blood on the wall as to repent would save their souls.

Ash would be proud

I legit like went, "Holy crap wow!" when that was revealed 😅
it wasn't too surprising, I genuinely thought it was going to be Gary and the Priest as twins. I was half surprised.

@DeathKitta I think, fatally. XD
Funnily enough, you can escape her by asking a hard or hypothetical question like what is the meaning of life or do aliens exists, etc.
itd make sense considering theres other references to japanese folklore such as the elevator game lol
Puddles have more depth than the Conjuring

Even when mentioning that John stopped his plans by going back to Amy, Gary kinda waves the question aside and says something like "But then you went and...took care of that."
Gary's entire persona is defined by him appearing like a normal human being and having this friendly, jovial outside that is the perfect mask for the demented, hideous things he does and wants on the inside.

That's pretty cool, thanks for the lore

It not being a demon of hell, but something altogether older could also explain why it partially bypasses priestly resistance to possession
Well, if we take the easter egg with the other cult leaders and the eldritch thing gifted to Gary seriously, we can say that other mythology exist in universe. Alu being a demon from a different mythos is totally plausible.

dont you dare compare Faith to tumblrtale
FAITH has such a cool art style. It's genuinely unsettling despite intentionally being in a medium that allows for such little detail. But it makes those full-screen moments of smooth animation hit ask the harder.

Gary’s voice actor deserves more praise! I love how he gets more performative as the video goes on :)
He is yutubar internet historian very gud
He is a criminal who was caught plaigarising videos about 8 months ago by Hbomberguy. Go watch the video Plaigarism & You(tube) by Hbomberguy & you'll see, he does an entire deep dive about how Internet Historian stole scripts word for word & then blatantly lied to his audience about the cover up. Also, no, his narration is not good, it's condescending & rude, to a point where it feels very strongly like he is making fun of or mocking the material he's reading. He reads it as if he's reading a rude comment & is using a "mocking" voice. It's awful & absolutely destroys the tone of the rest of the video. But yeah, do not watch Internet Plaigarist. He is an actual content thief & that has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. This isn't an opinionated thing. He is 100% caught red handed stealing scripts & journalism from hardworking & underpaid journalists.
This series is absolutely terrifying, but I couldn't help cracking up at the AI generated scream as John rockets down the stairs on a gurney.
Also in the first game sometimes when you repel Michael he yells "NoooOOOOoooOo!" and it got a laugh out of me each time.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
How is this scary?! lol
More from a lore standpoint than a graphical one, the entire premise of the story is what terrifies. And those animations can be pretty damn horrifying, ngl. The whole series is a masterpiece. Dude the thing you're doing for Airdorf is insane. Thank you. He deserves so much more. Father Garcia is one of the coolest fucking characters I've ever enjoyed, just a Hispanic priest with a shotgun. I fucking love this game. I love the characters. I love the detail. I love the lack of detail. It is probably one of the most interesting games I've seen in 10 or so years.
reminds me a lot of Father Grigori in Half Life 2. Can we just agree that a Priest with a Shotgun is one of the coolest things ever?
@@Ludacris2800 yeah just the concept of a guy who is wise to what's happening around him because of his faith is really cool. Throw in a shotgun and now he's got some real capabilities.

@@karlkoskie2891 hahaha that's a good point. I think Rodriguez is closer to Constantine though, in terms of action hero badassery. There's something clean about a mostly normal God fearing dude with a shotgun.

SPOILERS: I think the bird in Amy’s poem/riddle is John. All the colors of the symbols coordinate with their respective people (the chalice being pink, the star being red) and the bird is the same blue as John. Around 3:21:00 or so Wendigoon talks about how John is one of the original 12 kids who Sister Bell originally tried to sacrifice, which lines up perfectly with the line about the bird: “spirit bird arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost”. He’s coming back to finish what he started, whether he wants to or not. I could also be delusional so who knows
Your delusion makes a lot of sense, i m gonna join you
that makes sense, the bird being a demon did not sit right with me. very cool gamer2375
The bird was blue, but on its own it couldn't do much, but God was right behind it and was ready to throw hands
Maybe this is nothing but it does feed my theory that John is and was always going to be the portal to hell, as per Gary's "and sometime's, one [a portal] comes walking right up to you...hello John"
Anyway, I will continue to freak out about this
Unbelievable how I'm getting teary-eyed over text-to-speech. That ending with Amy was truly cathartic.
I've seen in my own playthrough and in a bunch of videos and it still makes me almost cry everytime
I've never played the game myself, but that ending still makes me unreasonably emotional
I imagine John sniffing out the air and being like "Oh, what's this? I smell...a ghost!", and then proceeds to exorcise a toy
I don't know how he didn't obtain more crucifxes and sew them onto his clothes, because I sure as shit would have.
I agree!
John: walks into a room
John: demon! Demon! Demon? Demon? Are you a demon? Demon! *walks two steps* demon?
There’s another part where John was using his cross on a dude that was absolutely totaled barely able to crawl around and it’s funny cause John was the cause of all that carnage and yet he still holds the cross up

Fun fact, this is actually a reference to a japanese ritual called "The elevator game.".

Except for the fact that he's kind of not human. They just pulled him out of a face hole one day.
Except Gary is Astaroth, and he can drop his human guise to reveal the real monster he truly is.

I feel like there’s two ways of interpreting that note:
1. John isn’t the saintly person we think he is, and he’s committed murders off screen
You can tell Gary is from demonic forces because he’s a landlord
Very true
true since putting interest rates on people is a big sin
It’s incredibly ironic for me that the cult leader is named Gary. When I was a teenager I got involved in what I can only describe as an extremely abusive miniature cult and the leader of that was also named Gary.

I think the most messed up part about this that wendigoon doesn't directly mention at least durring day 1 of part 3, if the cult owns this prenatal clinic they probably forced misscaeages onto these pregnant women and then convinced them the cult could help them see their children despite the fact the only reason they lost the child was the cult.
Holy sht! Yeah. Damn.
Holy shit, I got shivers with this.
Maybe I misunderstood, but didn't Wendi say that the babies had to be alive to work for the ritual?
