Gene I have had a similar problem on my 69 SS Camaro. I had to use a heat wrap on the exhaust headers to help cut down the extreme heat going onto the starter.
Great video Eugene, I enjoy watching your videos. I haveca 2010 camaro ss and I wrapped a heat shield around my starter cause I heard they had the same issues.
I would buy a rebuild kit for the OEM unit just to have a spare ready to go just in case. That could be one of those projects for when the snow starts to fly.
