@@Devenderkamboj254 I think you have no idea about assessing an economy (especially India's), and are happy to be fed rubbish by the media and out--dated retired politicians like Yashwant Sinha. The two most important aspects which matter to people are 1)Jobs and 2) Inflation, and in both these areas Modi's BJP Govt had done far better than the 'yes-madam' Manmohan Singh' UPA:
The UPA/Congress Govt in 2009 (prior to the elections) had announced that they will create 1 crore jobs (10 million jobs) every year, but failed miserably to do so during the period 2009 to 2014 with the figure not exceeding 600,000 per annum. Has Mr Chidambaram forgotten (short term memory loss or long term memory loss)? Narendra Modi in 2013 took up this job creation failure of UPA/Congress Govt as a challenge, and announced in a rally in Agra that the NDA (BJP) will strive to create 1 crore jobs (10 million) during its tenure from 2014 to 2019. One has to understand that the Employment Surveys conducted during the tenure of the UPA/Congress Govt (2009-2014) and NDA/BJP (2014 to date) does not cover job creation in Micro/Small enterprises employing less than 10 employees, as well as those working in the informal sector.
On April 26, 2018, the Modi government said that 3.11 million jobs were added between September 2017 and February 2018 based on employee payroll data. Critics, however, are unwilling to buy the number. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), a research firm that tracks business and economic data, believes that only 1.8 million jobs were created in 2017. That’s only 18% of the target. However, a figure of 1.8 million jobs per annum is 3 times better than the 0.6 million jobs created by the UPA/Congress Govt in the previous tenure.
      Inflation
The single most important parameter to gauge the performance of any economy is the headline inflation figure where the BJP has surpassed all expectations (if you have doubts, read a book on economics or speak to an economist). Thus, what is of utmost importance for the Indian Public (poor and middle class) is the headline year-on-year inflation figure (average price rise across all goods).
      www.inflation.eu/inflation-rates/india/historic-inflation/cpi-inflation-india.aspx
      BJP Government under Modi:
      Aug 2018: 4.7%, 2017: 4%, 2016: 2.23%, 2015: 6.32%, 2014: 5.86%
      Congress Government under Manmohan Singh:
      2013: 9.13%, 2012: 11.17%, 2011: 6.49%, 2010: 9..47%, 2009: 14.97%, 2008: 9.70%
Inflation is caused mainly by Demand-pull, where demand exceeds supply. By increasing the supply (production), BJP Govt has been able to reduce inflation. For doing so, role of private sector is of key importance, and this includes Ambanis, Tatas, Mahindras and the MNCs. The increase in supply also creates jobs, which benefits the Public.

@@Devenderkamboj254 If you can't understand the content of my comment, obviously you will find it long; which means that either you are a KID or a CONGRESS politician-- both are pappus.
I work as an analyst and we don't believe in what Modi/BJP Govt or Gandhi/UPA Govt. says; OK. What we believe in are the numbers, and we cross-check each and every number. If you are happy to remain dumb, then that is your problem and not mine as well as that of multinationals who are investing in India.

@@Devenderkamboj254 You are nuts! I have made a comparison between the NDA (2014-2018) and UPA (2009-2014) Governments with job numbers as well as inflation, and yet you say it is biased. I have not made a judgement based on opinion, which you are doing by calling me a biased analyst. The conclusion I can draw is that you are also from PAPPU's party.

You said it right. Only disagreement is on the "power of the regime". The power originally derived from the people's mandate is now considered as dictatorial power and in states like Goa, Bihar, etc., the election mandate itself is manipulated to make back door entries. This power is not only counter democratic but also diabolic.

GST is one of the most radical tax reforms implemented by the Modi Govt, and there is no doubt about that - this has been acknowledged by the World Bank and the IMF (Christine Lagard). The old regime of Local sales tax and Central Sales tax lacked transparency, as a result of which the States in India were able to camouflage their expenditure, thereby leading to overspending. GST will put a stop to that.
I am surprised as to why Mr. Yashwant Sinha does not want to talk about the advantages of having GST (Goods and Services Tax, which a fixed rate tax similar to VAT (Value Added Tax) in the West; and that such a tax programme cannot be implemented in one go, and instead has to be implemented in a phased manner depending upon the category of the goods being taxed.

Demonetisation by Modi will be remembered in the history of Indian economy as an ill-advised, absurd and a ridiculous decision taken by a person who completely lacks the know-how of economics. It was a highly haphazard move without applying head and heart. Forget about difficulties phased by the general public, deaths of more than 100 people, closer of a large number of industries and business and further rise of unemployment.
Just evaluate the quantum of salaries and wages paid to employees of the entire Banking industry, who remained busy for almost two months with the deposit and exchange of old Rs.500 and 1000 currency notes and above all loss to the Banks, as there was practically no banking. Besides the cost of printing of new 500 and 2000 rupees new notes. Above all the cost of carrying the new and the old notes all over the country. All such expenses caused to the national exchequer around Rs. three to four lac crores.

What a pity that moderator was so poor in her knowledge about policy making and economy, she seemed more interested in getting sound bites most tv channels in India (and rest of the world) are interested in. Mr. Sinha made some good points like increasing government expenditure and reducing taxes to increase aggregate expenditure but his comments on an international agency coming up with job numbers 3 years later is simply laughable. Modi's supporters will make the same argument. India has not had a long term economic policy, even today our policy is short-term despite tall claims from our PM. And fact of the matter is that demonetization was a botched up administrative effort that undermined independence of central bank and is going to effect money market for years to come. All of Modi's grand scheme like skill India, Make in India were in fact are the things needed for long term growth but those failed miserably in their first year itself. Like Mr. Sinha, Mr. Modi got some good advice but Modi is not someone that can actually do the work. He can only do PR.

Need to commend Yashwant Sinha on what he said on housing. I was one of beneficiary in 2005 of tax concessions. I was 25 then.
My father had at 42. how much more can figures match to what he said. There were many more like me from my generation.
Dr Manmohan was not much different in this area to what Sinha said. However I must say they should have controlled inflation in real estate much better. Spiraling growth and demand lead to this.
2ndly he has very much razor sharp sense of critique humour. Got whistles on one occasion.

Mr.Yashwant Singh cannot ignore the fact that India is among the most favoured FDI destinations and the annual FDI inflows to the country is expected to rise to around USD 75 billion over the next five years, says a UBS report of April 2018. The main objective of FDI is that the foreign investment is capital intensive in nature, which means that it will remain in the host country for a long period of time. Countries receiving inward investment gain in a number of ways, including:
An increase in GDP, initially through the FDI itself, but this will be followed by a positive multiplier effect on the receiving economy so that the final increase in national income is greater than the initial injection of FDI.
    The creation of jobs.
An increase in productive capacity, which can be illustrated by a shift to the right in the Aggregate Supply (AS) or the Production Possibility Frontier (PPF).
Producers have access to the latest technology from abroad.
Less need to import because goods are produced in the domestic economy.
The positive effect on the country’s capital account - FDI represents an inflow (credit) on the capital account.
FDI is a way of compensating for the lack of domestic investment, and can help 'kick-start' the process of economic development.

In the spirit of Chatham House Rules for public speaking with a view to encourage openness and the sharing of information without disclosing the source of information, it is important to point out that Mr.Yashwant Sinha does not have any educational qualifications in Economics and Finance, and instead he has a Master's degree in Political Science (1958) followed by 24 years as an IAS officer (Bihar Cadre). The fact is that Mr Sinha was appointed as the Finance Minister in 1998 by AB Vajpayee without having any appropriate credentials for the job, and this is no different to Mr Arun Jaitley (a law graduate/lawyer) being appointed by Modi as the Finance Minster. This also means that the role of the Finance Minister in a Cabinet does not need 'financial expertise' and the role is mainly of high level policy making, cooperation and implementation overview.

Agreed with Mr. Sinha on the disasters of Modi-gov's economic policies but here's a video of the same host Shoma at Algebra with Dr. Subramanian Swamy, a much more successful economist than Mr. Sinha (considering Dr. Swamy was the only one who brought about 9% growth rate in the country through PM Manmohan)
    ua-cam.com/video/wG6tOx-R4J4/v-deo.html
Swamy, unlike Mr. Sinha or others, presents a sound economic policy to reverse the current damage and go into high growth progress, explains how demonetization was a brilliant idea with horrible execution and how it could have been executed effectively, etc. And provides many more remarkable ideas & facts...
27:00 Swamy's arguments against the rubbish "Fascist" branding of the gov by media
41:00 Swamy on the actual ideas of Hindutva of the gov, as opposed to the trash that media likes to portray Hindutva as.

Hi Speaker Ryan and thank you for the July wishes. Yes wec do know God is the older word for Good and f couse we understand our for fathers trust in Good and its older smaller version of this same idea Goodness Good and Godness or simpe god pronounced as avodcado instead of food. And we know its realy our founding Fathers who wrote our founding documents not God but in recognitions of God we wrote on our Money "In God (or Good) we trust" and why? Because the onbservations and definitions that make those two words are so rue and so important that when we have a few persons who defined and word associated these two words that these people and whose thought to be as or related with these words become so very powerful, even if stealing the word associations, that when we write on our money "in God we trust" as We the people trusting God, then we through trust help guide who the people are that are related with the creation and associations of this word God. and thats pretty danged important stuff you know? Happy July 5th everybody, In thanks to the speker of the house and all of you, in God we trust :-) others pay at the door LOL just Joe King there, Tee Hee, Greg G.

Mr. Yashwant Sinha should debate with an economist who have differing views to convince public. The Govt. is performing well in comparison to immediate past Govt. The Govt. is scam free. It's performance in many sectors like infrastructure I.e. road, power, railway etc. has been very good. Economy in totality is doing well. External Affairs have been managed properly. The impact of Govt.'s policy in all areas will be visible in due course of time. On the other hand we have all tainted leaders / dwarf leaders in the opposition. Hence we do not find any alternative to Modi. Modi is selfless, patriotic, incorruptible and visionary. People will therefore vote for BJP for the sake of Modi.
