Would these be good for inshore fishing open water? Or do they work best from around structure and piers? If that’s the case I’ll pick up some of the 3D TPE crabs that have the standup jighead. I think those can cover open water well
You can have success in openwater, however, they're best used close to structure. More than likely, that is where these fish expect to feed on crustaceans.
🦀 I like they are prerigged but I'm skeptical because of the small area open for hook..I'm a bit attached to my crusty ones..I hope you will do a real test in water with fish soon comparing the cabbies of battles 🦀
I have the Chase Baits crab, had it about a year now, not a ton of success on it but I've caught several fish. Its started to separate from the body weight too. I think its a good bait, I just think out water is too murky here (Mississippi Gulf Coast) for good line if sight fishing. I mostly jig mine at a slower speed, I put a split ring on the hook mount, and connected a small barrel swivel gold willow blade to it. The addition of flash, and vibration really seemed to help the lure for me but I'm not really sure what's doing most of the work at this point. Visibility in my area is less than 6 inches, right on the Mississippi river mouth, and I'm a inshore fishermen.

Used them alongside mangrove crabs…never got a bite on the artificial while the mangrove crabs were on fire. Was likely me but haven’t been able to get a bite with them. I’ll keep trying!
True that. They look fantastic underwater. My only concern is them snagging because of the exposed double-Treble hooks on each hand (similar to the Cranka Crab). I'm sure they work well though.
They do make the most lifelike lures however they melt ! A hot July in NY my squids melted, still in the package, stored in a Plano bin outside. I would imagine that would happen quite easily in Florida. Be careful how you store them.
@@Saltstrong In NJ I repaint some of my Tautog heavy jigs white or beige with black, red or pink mottling to imitate native young lady crab or Asian Shore Crab, invasive since 1988 so maybe they know what they are. When using a tog or blackfish jig we all add a cut crab or small crab so there is scent and sight on a weighted hook. Pink, white, and glow paint might give a boost down deep if not covered. Silhouette recognition is supposed to be innate and it is enforced over time for older fish so I think an actual crab bait is worth trying.
I have few different brands of crab lures and never had a bite on any of them. So as a result they don't even get taken out of the tackle box any more.
I tried the larger Savage crab lures in the past and never got a bite, didn't even get attention from pinfish or pufferfish. These lures are made to catch fishermen, not fish. Look great, just don't work that good, at least for the average angler I would say. Maybe there's some secret to fishing them that no one in the comments here seems to know.
Thanks for the feedback, you do have to be careful on storing lures made of different materials, check out this info: www.saltstrong.com/articles/storing-soft-plastic-lures-mistake/

Live bait is nearly always superior to lures.

How do you see these working for Tarpon (pass crabs) @saltstrong
They might work, the challenge is they sink rather fast and Tarpon really key in on the Crabs at the surface.
