"If you take a .22 to the dome, it might change your mind."
Yeah, literally.
CyanLink
My cat survived a .22 to the head point blank and walked off like it was nothing
No my family is not crazy murders. An animal attacked him in the middle of the night ripping off his skin on his right side from the neck almost to his hind leg. We let him be for about 2 weeks but he was slowly dying so we shot him... twice of course.
Talk about rearranging your thoughts.
People completely underestimate the power and versatility of a 22 long rifle. I can shoot quarter's at 100 yards all day long. So a 25 round magazine at 1000 rounds of ammo will serve anyone very well.
@@tvhead7074 I either need to adjust your sights, or how can you miss a couple of inches from the cat`s head? I also love cats, they taste just like chicken. Some people can not hit the side of a barn when they are inside with the door closed. I have some great recipes for cat if you are interested.

A lot of youtubers say guns shouldnt be among your main prepper items. Thats not true, especially in the US. Guns have multiple functions as a prepping item. Security being the main one. If you pile up all the food and meds and fuel in the world and you cant stop a robbery then what was it all for? I say that guns are the first and most important prep item. You dont have to be a gun nut to see that.
Chad Dixon the importance of guns can be overstated, but yes, it's in the top 5, imo. Water, food, medical supplies/expert or expertise, arms, and armor.
Agreed but I've seen a lot of people who ONLY stock guns. Give it a week of them and their family starving and they will become the raiding party that we all worry about. You have to diversify your prepping.
Yes, every time you go out searching for the same things a lot of other desperate people are searching for you put yourself at risk. Having a gun is no guarantee you'll win the gunfight.
@@michaellovelace3844 that last line goes for everyone.
thousands of people in the US are attacked/robbed/burgled every day. You can be one of them, very easily. A gun on you will stop it. Without one, you probably can't prevail.
My heart goes out to you being stuck with those 10rd mags bud. Howdy from Texas.
Good luck Howdy from Texas too Best place in the world
Supersonic2747 washingtons ljke california without stupid laws
10 round mags? That's shocking my .22s packing 25 shot mags or a 110round drum. I also rate the .308 as it will also chamber 7.62 nato, If things go really pair shaped being able to scavenge ammo could make all the difference. Hiya from the UK.
leeSouthend Where do you get that drum at ??????thanks !!!!
17 and 30 round mag and wont be changing them to 10 any time soon
Whether people agree or not, this is one of the more logical prep vids I've seen so far.
Great list, I am slowly working towards possessing at least one of every class of firearm, nice range footage, looks like an insightful course.
+Canadian Prepper sure you've got more restrictions than even what we have in California. The course was amazing...good training makes all the difference.

My semi shotgun was on sale for 92$ shoots every time.
Alex Reeve what kind?
I have a Maverick 88 (which is made by Mossberg, btw) and I have never had a problem with it.
Brainchild69 I was looking at those, but I’m not a fan of where the safety/pump release is. I prefer the mossberg 500 over the maverick and 870 safety/ pump release because I can work it without moving hands.
For some on limited budgets, the 9mm carbine with a 9mm pistol might be a great option. If they can use the same magazines it can become even better. With both the same caliber you can also buy ammo in bulk to train with. Good vid in all and your suggestion of the 20 gauge shotgun for those weaker was a good choice. Thanks.
I agree a 9mm is often good enough. Plus if there's a situation where you need to bug out on foot it's less weight slowing you down.
2:40 Ruger 10/22 (22lr)
3:52 Remington 700 (Win 308?)

8:56 Daniel Defense DDMV4 (5.56/223)
869?
All good choices. I’m keeping my detailed thoughts to myself, but ur decision making is sound and my choices are similar.

@@matthewbeaver5026 Remington 870
Thanks for the summary. Some peculiar comments by the guy. I'm suspicious of his actual knowledge.
A pump action 12 ga is hard to beat. Out to 150 yards with slugs, Buckshot or Birdshot for close range. You can shoot birds on the fly, rabbit, squirrel, deer. Its awesome for self defense too.
The last places I’d be when shit goes down is Los Angeles and NYC... those places are going to be complete and utter chaos

I can’t stress how important it is to try out handguns before you purchase them. I’m 15 and was dead set on buying a G17. One time when at the range i thought “hmm maybe I should try other handguns” so I picked out a couple smiths and a M17 low and behold I now own a Sig P320.
15 years old and got a P320, which you will out grow by 21 and want something newer.

@@kenfulkerson9567 18 now. 4k ish rounds on it. Still love it.
And don't forget Medical TRAINING, at least the basics.
Who makes that gun, the Medical TRAINING? Never seen it at any stores around here.
This is so true, I've saved quite a few and (even my own) lives just by knowing the basics. Simply put, when there's a medical emergency 99% of people will freeze and do nothing out of fear. This can be as simple as someone choking on a piece of food; while simple to fix with the Heimlich maneuver 99% of people don't know how to do it at all.

Probably one of the most objective and level-headed videos I've seen on this subject. I applaud your reasoning and your production. Going to share it with friends.
“a well placed shot would do the trick” I know someone who was shot in the foot with a .22 and she was down and out, not to mention you could spray them, .22 needs no special treatment. it’s not as powerful but even a non fatal shot is enough to make someone turn aroumd
Will for sure get their attention!
I realize there are many other firearms that could have made the list but i was surprised you didn't list the SKS. Inexpensive, reliable and 7.62x39 is cheap.
Used to be inexpensive.
pierreb03038 Yeah, "inexpensive" sure buddy, sure.
pierreb03038 I agree it's a better choice than an AR that's for sure. They are getting a bit expensive nowadays though. I still rather have one they are great for hunting deer .
Sks are expensive in south california they run about 650 bucks
@@revolversypistolas9373
That is a little expensive but look where you are. Lucky you can even have any gun there.
The cockroach effect: 9 mm, AA battery, 12 gauge, 38 cal, etc. Things that are as common as cockroaches.
For an inexpensive collection: i would go with a pair of used taurus stainless steel revolvers in .38 special +p & a maverick 88 security 20" barrel 8 shot. Now you have personal security for you and your spouse & home security. As good as a glock 19 & ar15? Nope, but you get 3 for half the price of 2, & its light years better than nothing.
.38 seems to be going the way of the dodo. .22 is extremely prolific and can be used to procure a small meal.
I think as long as they keep making .357's, the .38 cartridge is pretty secure. And in a prepper scenario, if you have a couple where one member is recoil sensitive, you can get 2 .357 revolvers, the sensitive one shoots .38's, if you have a mechanical malfunction you can still use all your ammo. I'm kind of on the fence about pistol caliber carbines, but if you had to travel you would only have to pack one type of ammunition. So 2 .357 revolvers and a .357 carbine for our hypothetical couple. You could do worse.
Kelso lowk This is a PREPPER video.
Can you bag a pigeon at 30 yards with your snub nose .38?
Can you get 1,000 round cases of high quality ammo without going broke?
Can you get 25 round mags for cheap?
Can you return fire at range if attacked?
Can you defend your vegetable garden from small vermon?
No? Well thanks for trying, ass.
I love my 9mm
Wife and I each have a 380 pocket pistol, 9mm compact, 9mm full size (17 rounds), AR 15, bolt action 5.56, .22 cal rifle and a pump shotgun. We also have sufficient rounds and magazines for each firearm.
Yep get lots of range time in....

as the great warrior poet Ice Cube once said, "If The Day Does Not Require An AK, It Is Good."
Sofa_God hahaha indeed
That’s what I learned from Generation Kill
I have a maverick 88 and its a pretty good gun. The action rails seem a little loose but iv never had any problem with it. I put a raptor grip on mine as well as a vertical grip for stability making the gun a total of 31 inches long. All in all a good shotgun for the price which was 169 bucks.
Don’ get a weapon that you fit into... get those that fit you best... that you are comfortable in controlling. Go to ranges where you can rent... try out even those you are skeptical of... you might be surprised ! Then buy, practice w/ barebones & get proficient. THEN get the “toys” (scopes, lazers, lites, etc) When (NOT if ) they fail... you already have the skills to take them off & go barebones if necessary to be efficient. Get on some nuisance store’s lists to find ammo sales ...THEN use your budgeted pittances to stock up.
Today, after 4 years, I finally have a shotgun. It only shoots non lethal ammo, but I Am so happy to have it, because it is best thing I can have in my country.
Just wanted to say your vids are the kind that I come back to and rewatch because of the good info and clear presentation.
Thanks. good down to earth common sense recommendations that is in line with several other prepper channels.
Factoring in affordability, the Savage Model 10 beats the Remington 700 for a .308 bolt action. The money saved would help you get that overpowered scope. Similarly, a Mossberg 500 gets you all the reliability of the Remington 870 and saves a $100.
@@timberlandone4054 totally agree 🇺🇸💪
Winchester defender is my go to, no smoother pump action
Multiple .22 fire arms both side arms and long guns. 9mm side s arm and a 9mm carbine such as a Hi point. A moss burg 500 for bugging in with multiple types of ammo. A.303 is a last needed firearm imo as ammo is heavy and expensive. If one lives in wide open country the 303 could replace the mossburg

Very well presented, and I appreciate your perspective that training is, well, prepping. I have four of your recommended five.
Very good video, I like the breakdown and the common sense tips you provide and as a preparedness consultant I am especially glad you de-emphasized weapons versus food. Thank you for that. Well done sir.
Coming from a gun enthousist/prepper. I agree you can spend thousands on guns n ammo lol. Its deffinatly important to focus on everything as a whole you want to make sure you have everything you need. Ontop of firearms for all different occasions i have trained in primal building cus nomatter how many guns n ammo i have its impossible to move it all with your gear ontop of ammo will run out and or go bad. Happy prepping everyone 🙂
Gotta have a gun, didn't think I needed one until a needed it.
While I don't disagree with your picks, I have gone a different route. We decided to limit the ammo diversity. We now purchase 9mm, 5.56, and 22 lr firearms exclusively. All these are common, and having multiple firearms in the same configuration makes it easy to share magazines/parts, etc. While I still own others, we will concentrate on these three for future purchases. (we have a shotgun and x-caliber inserts in case we 'scavenge' ammo calibers for arms we don't own.) I would like to suggest, if you haven't tried one, the Primary Arms 1-6x24 scope for your 308. I am a Vortex guy, but recently purchased some PA products, and have really been happy with them. Thanks for the video, keep up the great work!
Vortex makes a good product, but Primary Arms reticle designs - especially the ACSS - are state-of-the-art in the industry right now. PA's reticle designs are so good that Trijicon, having failed to top them, licensed the ACSS for use in its TA31 ACOG line. Vortex is something like Leupold used to be - an American firm which makes high-quality, affordable optics. Leupold's optics are still great, but they've gotten quite expensive in recent years if you want their premium-grade gear.
There's no wrong answer here. You can stick to common rounds but you risk that everyone else is also looking for those rounds. Or you can go wild cat, but most local ranges don't carry those.
So you could wind up with a paperweight either way.
Stew Pidasso has the right idea. Caliber commonality and interchangeable parts, of the land, are undeniable in a scarcity scenario. 223, 30-06, 9mm.
@bill norris Completely agree on the rifle vs shotgun argument.
Shotgun 50 meters max with slugs if you really, REALLY know how to shoot. Plus 12 gauge is 10 rounds per pound, 5.56 30 rounds per pound, .22 over 100 r/lbs.
While you could loot anyone who might attack you. I think there will also be a lot of times where you just lay down a mag of surpressing fire and GTFO. Don't forget hunting and fighting off four legged predators either.
Honestly I think a high powered air gun like an Edgun or AirForce would be perfect for preppers. They're probably not going to be much use for defense, but as long as you had access to a compressor and electricity, and a means to caste pellets, you'll never run out of ammunition. No need for power or brass or primers. Capable of taking down small or even smaller medium size game and target practice to save your ammo for your firearms for bigger game or defense. They're also much quieter than firearms.

As always, a commendably sane, reasoned discussion on prepping topics, this time on the highly charged subject of firearms. Props for putting firearms in perspective in terms of priorities for prepping. I personally own a Palmetto State Arms AR-15. But I'd like to give a shout out to the lowly Hi Point carbine, which you referenced as a budget alternative to the more popular (and expensive) AR/AK options. It's sort of apples to oranges because the Hi Point uses a pistol cartridge and the AR/AK variants fire much more powerful rifle calibers.
But I've test fired the Hi Point at a gun range and was very impressed. It happened to be the same caliber as my handgun (9mm) so the owner let me shoot it quite a bit since I was providing my own ammunition. He, I and another range shooter ran it extensively all afternoon with zero malfunctions and we all agreed that out to about 75 yards, it was commendably accurate. For a firearm newbie on a very tight budget and who isn't interested in concealed carry, the Hi Point nicely bridges many of the roles of both a handgun and carbine. A novice would certainly be far more accurate and comfortable shooting it than a handgun in the same caliber.
+Marc Hills thanks for that info. I don't know a lot about these firearms but seems they're popular. Glad to hear your feedback.
Amazing
Hi-Point seems to be improving. I haven't heard anything bad about their carbines, except they're ugly. (That's something I personally do not care about. Self-defense ain't no fashion show).
I worked for a contracting Co. 02-06 and my long range precision rifle was a Savage FP101 .308. with Simmons 24x. 500 YD. Shots no problem. Still have it and love it.
I have watched your vids many times, sometimes the same vid several times and each time I come away with more information.

I have for me & my wife the Ruger LC9 (9mm) & Ruger LCP (380), Savage 22 w/scope, Mossberg 500 pump 12gauge, SKS (Russian) & the Ruger 556. I do have others I can fall back on but after seeing this video I feel this part of my prepping is on point. thank you for the great video.
Thank-you good video. Spot on with reliability, common, accurate.
My rifles: Remmington 700,, bolt action, 308
Stag Arms AR 15, .556
Winchester 94, 30/30
Remmington 870, 12 gauge shotgun
Ruger 10/22
These rifles start out from 500 yds and less. Common, easy to get parts, ammunition. If the SHTF these are the rifles I expect to protect and provide defense and offense for my family.
Current inventory is about 6000 rounds of ammo for these various rifles.
Are gun shows good for that?
Do you know anything about .300 ACC barrels for your STAG ARMS AR-15?
my top is a 5.56 AR with a 22LR conversion kit.
The Immortal with an ACOG 😜
WickedSensation
yup. and a suppressor
The Immortal mines still in ATF jail but I do agree completely.
+The Immortal great hearing from you...it's been awhile! You back from deployment yet? So you liked the conversion kit to 22LR? I've been considering that option so I can train with cheaper ammo. Running through 300 rounds of 5.56 is prohibitively expensive.

I'll be back home soon.
Yeah, the CMMG kit is a good buy.
Pretty reliable, and shoots 1" groups at 25. Accurare enough for what I use it. I mostly shoot suppressed, so it's really quiet.
I have a video of what it sounds like from the target.
They're well worth the money and is an advantage the AR has over other guns. Between 5.56 and 22lr, everything from squirrel, birds, rabbits, and deer cam be effectively killed.
I have the same Remington 870, the hardwood home defense! I love it
I've been a subscriber for a little over a year; and really enjoy this channel. But I'm finding that I like the older videos better - perhaps because they're geared toward newer preppers. Keep up the good work!
Agreed. Especially those current ones.
I have a m1 Carbine. Also a Ruger 22 rifle w/scope. All I need.
Good video. Oddly enough, when ammo flies off the shelf the odd calibers can still be found (like .44 mag for revolver and lever guns).
As I replied elsewhere, the potential exists for losing out either by having a "common" caliber...or...by having an "uncommon" caliber, too. :(
I loved how u said to not focuse on guns and to think about me supplies and food and water very kind on your part to consider that in your video
FINALLY!!!!! Someone who does a "top 5" list actually includes the criteria they used to rate the firearms. THANK YOU. I may not agree with all the choices, but at least it helps people see where they're coming from. Otherwise, most top 5, top 10 lists are nothing more than their personal favorites passed off as the best choices for other people.
10/22 is a great rifle but I prefer the Marlin 795 with several 25 round magazines. I have both and prefer the Marlin, I just can't get used to the bolt not locking to the rear when the mag is empty. Too long in the Army, I guess, LOL! GREAT video, BTW!
+Bruce Wisor I've heard great things about them. Thanks for the feedback!
"A shot to the dome might change your mind" - haha classic pun
Riggghhh!🤣🤣🤷♂️
If I may add, what I love about the AR platform is the fact that you can change out the uppers and get them in a variety of calibers, if you are financially able to do so that is it would have be I smart thing to get one of each caliber especially some somewhat common rounds like 40s&w. Same with shotguns specifically speaking a 12 gauge pump shotgun, you could purchase inserts being able to shoot different gauges like 20 gauge, 16 gauge, 28 bore, & 410.
Good video! We all need to lean this kind of information on firearms. 🇺🇸
It's one of the most common semiautomatic rifles but is no where near one of the most powerful!
Remember a AR 15 comes in many other calibers besides 223--556 X 45. Uppers even are offered in 7.62 X39. And if you put one together from parts you can save a lot. As in pistols the Glock 19 is great and I put one together. Don't forget the Hi Point pistols that do go bang & cheap.
Nice. Ive done a vid along these lines. Very important points you have made
Good video brother. I'm working my way up to each of these classes of firearms.
thanks and keep at it!
I don't care for the flashlights or lasers on the weapons, just for the simple fact it gives your position away. Last time I checked you did not want people to see where you were at.
They are used for things like home defense. The point is you shine a super bright light at the bad guys and they can't see shit because the light is in their eyes and you can see them since they are lit up. The only other real alternative would be to invest in some expensive night vision gear. You can't go into a home defense situation and shoot without being able to see what/who you are shooting at.
John Smith you don’t want to shoot your mother in law when she comes over unannounced either. If you accidentally shoot your in laws, your gonna have a bad time
If u french fry when ur supposed to pizza, ur gunna have a bad time. lol
Great video and sound logic . I live in NY so I can't own the number one firearm, but I have substituted a Ruger Mini for the AR platform. I've also been experimenting with a revolver instead of a semi-automatic (since the state limits magazine capacity). The Mossberg 500 is in my opinion worth the price difference over the 88. All in all, very insightful info sir.
ModernReformer don't forget the Mosin. if money is a factor, get the 88. I have the 20" And love it.
You're right. I've shot the 88, it's reliable, I just prefer the 500. I was never impressed with the Mosin, but you can't beat the price. A couple years ago you could get an SKS for the price of a Nagant, but they're starting to get expensive too.
I carry a wheel gun everyday...I even sold a PPQ and 1911 to focus on my revolver shooting. The revolver isn't ideal but you'll save money by not having to buy mags (speedloaders and speedstripes are cheaper) and a model w/ 4 inch barrel or greater could double as a hunting a handgun. AND, you could get a lever-gun in the same caliber!
Get an ARES SCR. NY/NYC legal and it takes AR magazines.
Nicely Done, Good solid opinions, No BS and had a reason for each type of firearm you had.
I had a Glock 19 for years , Never did fit my hand right.
I could shoot it fine and do what needed to be done but ended up switching to the
Springfield XDM 9mm in 4.5, It felt natural to me and I shoot better with it.
I am along with you on the having 2,300 for a firearm, Spend 800 on the Gun and 1,500 on training.
Great advice and options.
You gained a subscriber for your no nonsense and no bull shit advice.
It may very well save a life, Well Done Sir.
1,500 on training? Wat? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Breathe in, aim (plot for drop and windage), breathe out, squeeze.
Great video, lots of good info.
I love when people say that the .22 isn't strong enough for self defense. Like you said, a shot to the dome would ruin your day.
I always say I wouldn't want to get shot with it.
for a scope for your Remington 700 may I suggest a SWFA Super Sniper scopes...they are half the price of that Vortex but they quality and toughness far outmatches the vortex. now the scope I'm suggesting to you is a fixed power usually in a 6 power 10 power all the way up to 20 power. the SWFA scopes are really high quality and the glass is manufactured in Japan. for the money these scopes are awesome. feel free to check out my review of the SWFA scopes. thanks- Awag1000
I liked the video, and my choice for a very affordable rifle is the Ruger AR556 which went for $ 499 and i love it , its very reliable, never experienced a malfunction, and as of this response to your video i am making some improvements to it , wish i could share a picture.
A great “inside 100-yard” option is one of many 9mm rifles. Kel Tec has a folding budget model, Colt, Beretta... all are easy to afford, easy to use, and they feed off of the same ammo as your Glock 19. And if you’re willing to keep an eye on your used guns in stores and online auctions, you can find a Marlin 9mm Camp Rifle. They are awesome little rifles and take tremendous abuse and still keep working.
"If you take a shot to the dome with one of these, it might change your mind" Couldn't stop laughing after hearing this. Convinced me to get a .22!
Solid list. The only one I’m missing is the 10/22.
I have a very small group of friends and family that have agreed to ban together should things go sideways. They are in various stages of acquiring all of these.
We are the SAME WAY...
I am a fan of the 870 too but you may want to consider the Mossberg 590A1 as an additional model. To date it is the only pump action shotty that as made it through the military testing process with no significant issues. They are issuing a new version, very retro, wood furniture.
USMC use Mossberg 500 is my understanding from a former RECON.
Savage makes a great budget long range rifle.
Compound bow for quiet work and hunting. Giving your position away even with a 22 is not ideal. Just a thought.
Or...crossbow.

Gotta say, I have watched alot of prepper vids, and most of them are guys who overthink and insult their viewers abilities, and their firearms are silly and uncommon, but this guy actually seems like he knows a thing or two, my arsenal consists of all five guns on this list and I consider myself a decent prepper, so yeah, good video bro👍

City Prepping - I own a Highpoint 40 carbine and it runs like an old AK. beat it,don't clean it and roll it in the mud. It's like the old Timex commercial, "takes a licking and keeps on ticking" ! Where the HP pistols can be a bit lacking their long guns excel. And if you want to spruce it up High Tower Armory makes a nice Bullpup conversion !
40 cals are often available when 9mm where not like the last ammo shortages
Monty Bigbore And despite loosing favor lately, the .40 is a great round. 😎
I think the big thing will be ammunition shortages. There are plenty of guns out there that will last many many rounds, but once the ammo dries up, you would be better off with a sharp stick.
+TheRevention yup...ammo will go fast but hopefully common rounds will be around longer.
Stick with NATO/Police/Military calibers, you will scavenge some shootable stuff.
+Stew Pidasso yup
Plus a lot of old WWII rifles (with or without bayonets, though they certainly help) can be good melee weapons as well. I'd rather beat someone to death with a rifle than some random sharp stick I found laying on the ground. (Granted I'd rather do neither, but that's not always viable.)
TheRevention That is very old school. Step forward a few centuries to a black powder 50 cal rifle. You could make your own powder and mold your own mini ball ammo.
When it comes to long rifles, I recommend the Remington 783. It's an amazing rifle.
I just ordered a double barrel 12 gauge shotgun and I have a take down ruger 10 22 with the Magpul backpacker mod. Along with BB guns and a very powerful crossbow bow I think have the basics covered.
A notable handgun to mention: Sig Sauer 229/226. Used a lot among the civilian and law enforcement community. Proven reliability/durability and plenty of parts available.
Chinese built AK. Norinco and polytech. 7.62x39. If you're going with an AR you better be aware of what it is and who build it.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! No shit. ALL GUNS DO IF YOU DO NOT MAINTAIN THE FUCKIN THINGS!!!!!!
Glock are great with barrel and spring swaps can cover a range of ammo varieties. Glock 40 calls can be swapped to 9mm and my 45acp has been swapped to a 460 rowland it can fire 45 acp . plus p . supers and 460 rows
+Monty Bigbore Really? So my Glock 21 can chamber and feed the .460 Rowland? Cool. I still prefer it in .45ACP with 230 grain Hydra-Shok ammo, but that's good to know if SHTF happened and I come across some .460 Rowland ammo. Any mods that need doing? I have a Glock 32 slide and barrel so I can turn my .40 caliber Glock 23 into a .357 Sig Auto for that scenario, in case I ran out of .40 caliber and came across some .357 Sig, but I didn't know that about the .45. Does this apply to Glock 30 as well? I agree with you, man, Glocks are really cool guns. My Glock 21 is my nightstand gun and would be in my leg and thigh holster if the S really did HTF ;)
I thought this to be an excellent video within the parameters the creator intended. I would have inserted the SKS rifle after the AK, and before the Hi-Point. Ammo is cheap, operation is easy, it's dependable even when neglected and replacement parts are still plentiful. Again, good video.
For your long range rifle, the Remington 700 series have problems of firing WITHOUT pulling the trigger...! Many people had accidents caused by firing when they simply disengage the safety...! It's just a red flag for this choice...!
You do a great job, I really enjoy watching your videos and I learn a lot from your ideas... Keep on the good work...!
Sylvain Gauthier
that malfunction has never been reproduced by any tester, even with the exact firearm the plaintiff claimed went off on safe. It's very likely that the guns weren't on safe when the owners say they were
+The Immortal they updated the trigger a few years ago. This is yet another reason the 4 gun laws should *always* be obeyed. Keep that barrel pointed away from anything you don't want to destroy. Failures and ND's can happen with the best firearm. But you bring up a valid concern. I was upset by hearing about this as well.
City Prepping
exactly. nobody would have ever been hurt if they had been doing the right thing. It was never proven that the trigger was unsafe. Remington replaced them anyway.
Savage 12!!! Awesome .308!
Ruger American can be had for under $300 and if I'm not mistaken is the only rifle with a free floated barrel in that price point.
I have a shotgun and a long riffle but I also have a black powder revolver with around 500 percussion caps. Also, I know how to make powder 3 different ways. I also know how to make percussion caps. So as long as I have a supply of car batteries I have an endless supply of ammo. I also have a reproduction brown bess musket but I am not gunna carry that thing around if I have to be mobile.
Travis Moss Smart! If i can come up with spare money I plan to get a BP revolver and extra cyl for that very reason. That would be for the long, long run.
Bro that is hard core. I believe that skills are the best prep you can have.
bs, a 5000 rd case of .22lr will last for decades. There wont be any practicing once shtf. The noise will call in your killers, and you'd havre to clean that pos bp gun EVERY time you shot it, then reload it, and still have to worry about the clunker drawing moisture and misfiring, or having a weak charge. There wont be any game left, 2 months after shtf. A silenced .22lr auto is FAR superior choice to any cap and ball gun. You get only 170 shots to a lb of BP, and the lead balls are heavy.
Very good to not have to worry bout getting ammo when you make your own
I recommend a Springfield socom-16. It's much like an AR-15 with a couple exceptions. It is light, small, and use hunting caliber (.308). I will say they are expensive but worth it. Long lasting.
Get an AR 10 instead of you want a battle rifle.
Looks like I cover all the firearms you’ve said, but I have Two 22LRs, the 10/22 and a Walter P22. Also my Maverick 88 hasn’t jammed on me yet. Still works flawlessly till this day, bought it when I was 26 I’m 31 now. Do I have training not really but I know how to use them. I’ve dissembled them and reassembled them. Thanks for your video. Have a good day 👍
you should look into the Kel-Tec Su-16. It takes Ar- magazines and is chambered in .223/5.56 but is operated by a piston system like an AK. Not to mention it is incredibly light and folds in half for storage. It makes a great packpack rifle that can still reach out and pack a punch. I put mine through 2 years or moderate to heavy use without cleaning it once and it continued to operate flawlessly.
It might not be what you're looking for but it is a solid option that not many are aware of.
TNP baby! :)
One of the criteria was popluarity for parts availability no?
Outstanding
Bug out guns should be as simple as possible. Fewer moving parts means less to worry about. A lever action is on my list.
Have a single shot break action? You should pick up one of those too
Bolt actions over lever action. Easier to maintain and shoot prone.
@@33Luger but what about the most important aspect that every pepper takes into account when looking for a survival gun? "How dirty can I get it and how much can I abuse it and still have it work" XD I think the lever gun wins out there
Disagree. Much easier to field strip a bolt action in the field than a lever action. One reason armies choose bolt actions over lever actions. I own both, but would trust my WWI Mauser over my newly made Marlin 30-30.
@@33Luger well of course field stripping a bolt action is simpler than a lever action but doesn't stop working after you drop it in mud.
As far as optics for your 308, I would suggest the Nikon prostaff. The clarity of the glass is on par with vortex, and it comes in at about $200 which is a third of the cost. Another step up from that would be a Leupold which would mean you're paying about as much as you're paying for the vortex scope.
Thnx for that tip
i went the a Stag Minimalist for my M4 !!! Awesome gun!!! also have the Glock19 lol By the way i did also purchase a Maverick88 lol i went with the all purpose model.Getting the tactical barrel soon.
As an Aussie I'd like to ask for a video on best self defense weapons that aren't firearms, thanks mate.
+Grim The Gnoll yeh I've been thinking about that...will add that to my list of videos to make.
Grim The Gnoll a broom handle with a long kitchen knife duct taped to the end. a baseball bat. a bow. glass bottled filled with gasoline or any flammable material with a rag stuffed in. a machete. large rocks you can throw. a slingshot. a lawnmower blade sharpened and wrapped with tape for the handle. what else do you want? better yet buy a gun illegally and hide it well. if it goes to shit it won't matter.
a slingshot loaded with a BIG DILDO
Grim The Gnoll that would be your mind, body and soul!
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. If a law is unjust and places your life in jeopardy DO NOT ABIDE BY THAT LAW. as a human you have a choice. If you choose to not follow a law then be careful. Don't get caught. If you do get caught then dont complain. Maybe people should organize and change the unjust law. A small % of the population that is the government cannot stand against an army of unhappy people. You have the power to change your laws. Do what is best for you and your family and never let anyone that follows blindly sway you. Don't be a sheep. Sheep get eaten by the Wolf AND the shepherd.
Intelligence is the greatest skill a prep can have! Get smarter or die! That’s the difference!
My top is an AR15 with A2 fixed sights, stock and with some type of a light fixture and mount
Have to agree with the training. A $2500 custom AR with no training is a dust collector. a $700 base line Bushmaster with a few thousand rounds and a good veteran friend is an effective tool for defense, hunting or just a fun day at the range.
Your rear sight is backwards. Is there a reason for this?
+TactiKoolStuff human error :(
TactiKoolStuff I was wondering the same thing.
joe Anderson 4
how much will the backward sight affect accuracy?
On carbine length rails, some put the front sight backwards to save top rail space which is generally occupied by a PEQ or pressure switch for it or a laser. Those with 40mms also may favor the inline iron sights which also take up more rail space.
Ruger.22LR
Remington 700 in 308
Remington 870 or Benelli SA
Any Sig Sauer
BCM 556
Pistol caliber carbine is my go to for when shtf, my kel tec sub 2000 gen 2 chambered in 9mm with glock 19 mags paired with my glock 19 handgun. Cool thing is that my glock 19 PCC has interchangeable mags and ammo with my glock 19 handgun. I can hit accurately and consistently at 150-200 yards and i only paid $299 for my kel tec sub 2000 gen 2.
You've done one of the best 5 out there choices to me. There are of course a bunch of variations on the brands and models out there, but .22lr, .308 bolt, 12 gauge shotgun, 9mm pistol and .223/5.56×45mm AR are the best standards imo. For AR's most people to me are better benefited with a piston AR for the much easier care and maintainance for them. I've been running them for a decade and a half since switching from DI's after I used them extensively in the military and out. I use Adams Arms piston AR's exclusively now and no I don't work for the company. I just have found them to be an excellent rifle overall and as good in what an AR does as any of the far more expensive options. They are also available for as cheap as your most basic and inexpensive DI AR's out there. Buds and other dealers sell the Agency models at times for as low as $529 from what I've seen. I recommend anyone looking for an AR to take a look and consider one. Evey single person I know that has bought one has been exceedingly happy with theirs. As I am with mine. Good luck all.
"If you take a shot to the dome with one of these it might change your mind" lmao no sheit
As an alternative to the pump 12 gauge, I would propose a break action single shot 12 gauge. In fact, if I could only have one gun, that would be my go-to gun. Inexpensive, simple, plentiful ammo, and coupled with some caliber adapters it's extremely versatile.
Brian Taylor have been thinking that for some time now too.
12Ga ammo is bulky though.. it takes up a lot of space. 22LR is powerful, and light.
Brian Taylor, One advantage of the break action shot gun(1 or 2 barrels )is the ability to use less expensive bird shot shells to make cut shells or waxer shells as effective self defense or medium game loads.
There are also adapters out there to enable you to use whatever ammo you find in that break-over scatter gun! www.gunadapters.com/12-gauge-to-9mm-luger-scavenger-series/
Brian Taylor - Rushed by several home intruders with a two shot option? The" one gun "owners should levey expense versus versatility in all scenerios. Pumps and some autos may provide a leg up on your cherished bird gun.
Wow have all 5 exact guns and agree 100% on the list.
Nice video! Great list! How much ammo do u recommend for stockpiling?
