Good video. I would like to mention a couple of things. You can in fact store imitation maple syrup indefinitely. It contains sugar/high fructose corn syrup. The other ingredients are preserved by them. My wife and I just tried some plain Mrs. Buttersworth that was 12 years old and it tasted as good as just bought. Vanilla and other extracts are tinctures. Meaning they have a smal amount of alcohol in them. Also remember that sugar can be used as an antibiotic. Sugar packed in a wound can keep infection at bay. And Vinegar needs to be the high % type as it will hold up longer. And one other item that I wouldn't consider a forever food but for 10-20 years is Canned meat products. We have eaten them that were 12 yearspadt the expiration date and they were as good ad newly purchased would be.. I've been doing this stuff for over 40 years, long before it was ever called prepping. It was a good video for sure. Thanks and good luck on your endeavors.

Just vacuum seal it to keep moisture out. When it comes time to use it if you have a chisel and a good herb grinder or old mortar and pedestal then you can powder it into a usable state.

Also, soy has been found to not be good for us. Thank you, Sootch. Edited to add: Here in the South, we have something that can save our lives and it can be found in abundance. Kudzu is something that we can survive on. Any and all Southeastern peppers would do well to purchase the kudzu cookbook. It has been sitting up there for 5 yrs, opened but unused (but half used) for 5 yrs and just made pancakes for the first time in 5 yrs and that maple syrup was just like when you first bought it. It's not natural maple syrup as many preach but kept just as well, opened, and in it's orginal bottle. Maple syrup keeps! Maybe natural keeps longer but it keeps regardless!
The add water only pancake mix is also 5 yrs old. It's opened and was partly used. It's in it's orginal box and I only took a sticky on one side kind of plastic wrap over the opening and again, was like brand new. That keeps well, as well.

They still do, though. All plastic does. Plastic containers are simply not designed for true long-term storage. Retail containers are designed for a retail environment, with a steady supply chain that encourages the regular replacement of products on store shelves as they are bought and consumed.
There's a reason why bulk food markets use other materials for their containers, which are designed for continuous use over much longer periods of time without having to replace them.

Storing food and water for some king of catastrophe is a smart idea. How much one stores
is your decision as you know what dangers you face. Setting up your home and property so you can survive is paramount. Window plywood blocks to stop glass from coming in the house, and blackout protection are of much importance. A second evacuation location is great (if you can afford one) but most of us can not never mind some one already living there when you get there. Leaving a urban area for your alternate site has to be quick to get away, for the highways will be plugged quickly. If you are a prep-per you have a great investment where you live as you worked hard get it as you wanted it. Having now to decide to leave is devastating. I look at this way your preps, water, and the ability to grow your long term food is the answer. Saving for a years supply and choosing a bug-out bag with three days of supply's is inconceivable (down right stupid) people will come together and most will live to reorganize. The zombies and gangs do not out number the majority. When "IT" happens gangs will be a food source for us or our animals and zombies is bullshit movie stuff. Stay gray-man until things settle down then organize. Look at all the hurricanes, fires for what happens when its time to work together. I am a realist and until the settling do whatever it takes to protect my family...
