Installing the JK-BMS in a Seplos MASON DIY Box? Well, it's not that easy... but here is how!

- I'm pulling the Seplos Mason Battery Boxes out of the corner. Today, I want to replace the Seplos BMS V1 with a JK-BMS. This seems to be a challenging mission as nothing seems to fit. All mounting options and cutouts are different, and we also need to make a big opening for the JK communication ports. Not to mention the question on how to install a JK-display in the front panel...
Thankfully, we have this 3D printer which is a fantastic tool and helps a ton in designing and printing all kind of adapters, mounts and carriers for this project.

Hi MrTutkun. Is it possible to get the 3D design for JK BMS inverter communication board?
Without further to do, I must say that this channel is awesome! I was just watching another channel (gridbusters) and I noticed just how much of what she is doing was due to the lessons she learned from watching your channel. She has a pink heat gun too! It must be so fulfilling to know that you are inspiring an international community of solar power enthusiasts. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot for your kind words and feedback!
What a great project. Very well executed. The reason for all the effort eludes me a little, but it was certainly entertaining.
I love DIY stuff.❤
The reason, was simply to upgrade the BMS, which meant the modifications were necessary to fit the new JK inverter BMS in a box which wasn't designed for it.
The 'old' 10C BMS goes to a friend in Germany, so the box needed a new BMS. And why not use a JK, right?😄
Great video, I have been waiting for these videos since it was first mentioned about the new JK Inverter BMS.
Try using threaded inserts in the 3D printed frames holes that are pressed into the plastic with hot solder.
3D print the test holes that will best fit your purchased threaded inserts.
Self-tapping screws are fine for the prototype, but try threaded inserts as upgrade for the final version.
Yes! Brass threaded inserts are excellent and would make this solution truly #bombenfest!
Yeah, I've seen them. I thought they get super glued into the 3D part not pushed in with a solder?
I used normal M3/M4 screws and the result is actually very very good. I'm surprised myself.

You’re right in the middle of all this stuff. Your number is short you are at 84k. Fantastic 😊
I know, I wait until 85. 😂
Congratulations Andy! Another excellent video. You're the man!
Thank you.
I understand that you've had all that fun 3D printing.
For those without 3D printer you can alreasldy buy just front plates for JK inverter BMS with 4.3inch display cutout or whole case.
They are fairly cheap now on Ali.
Have you got a Link?

It's awesome, I really enjoyed that designing and printing. Took me a while but I'm still learning.
Thanks Andy, Looks neat. 👍 Still struggling with my JK Inverter BMS's same faults as your first one no PC communication but vs 15 frustrating !!!
Thanks Wayne. Can you not reset it with the PC software and a USB-RS485 adapter?

yes, but I bet you do not expect visitors there like in your living room so that thing looks beautifull as it is, part of the seplos mason evolution.
Don't waste filament for that.
Great solution with these 3d printed adapters.
I'm happy to have watched this video as inspiration cause I bet I will have to do that later too, but for the mason energy tower.

Hi andy, I always use a black marker pen to "paint" the screws black before I put them in. Try it it works great and you can re tip the screws with the marker after you screw them in the front.
I like the industrial look😉
Andy you are star love you content. :)
Thank you!
Great mod there Andy, a lot of work and measuring going on, as a Boily I would have made a whole new front plate that would allow more room, but a lot more filing needed for the comms PCB, I do like the looks of the 3D comms PCB saves a lot of drilling and filing on metal
Yes, you got the machines for that in your workshop, Ross. I should have sent you the measurements to make one for me😉 It would definitely look better than my Frankenstein Mason now.
@@OffGridGarageAustralia I am a little too far south from you Andy otherwise you could have used my workshop. shortly heading north to QLD for a break, your lucky and you have the warmer weather, have been busy building a 4m x4m battery room fully insulated for winter with air-con all running on off grid, I think my batteries will be better looked after then myself lol..
@@sjdtmv That sound great and very familiar. I'm doing the same over winter to prepare for the next summer up here.

Looks a bit rough indeed but hey it’s a prototype 😅. For the final solution I would just use a new sheet of 2mm aluminum and some L-profile to form the lip at the edges and paint it black… e voila… you have a case looking like from the factory!
Happy you found your way in 3D printing. It’s a great tool to make all kind of stuff. Just keep in mind to use the right filament especially if the part is used in an environment where it gets warm or even hot. we wouldn’t like to see that the BMS is falling off in your next hard discharge test…😂 Just kidding! Cheers Jens
I can print a new frontpanel out of 2 or 3 pieces...
Yeah, heat could be a problem with this PLA but the BMS will not get that hot.

No, Bambu make this man a signature printer, the Bambu Bombenfest! A printer big enough to print the whole front panel.
Yes, I have evolved... Maybe I start compressing my cells soon?
Heatset inserts are your friend. Which is what the outside one was designed for.
And push them in with a solder iron?
Moin Andy, great design and work. I think you use PLA for the prints? What happens if the JK gets warmer than 60°C? I think you need something more heat resistant to hold the JK in place.
Yes, I use PLA+ for printing. Should not be an issue. The BMS will not get that warm. There is enough airflow.
YIXIANG DIY JK 200A BMS LifePo4 Metal Battery Case has everything for JK inverter BMS on the front panel: circuit breaker, ON/OFF switch, large 4-inch touch display, two terminals for + and -
Hello! I have a Deye SUN-6K-SG03LP1-EU in pair with the JK BMS PB2A16S20P (HW V15.XA, SW V15.17), I successfully installed it and it works very well. I have only one problem that I can not fix for now - I need when Grid AC is lost or restored (no matter) to force the battery to charge to RCV (Requested Charge Voltage - 3.45V, 55.2V) but it charges only to RFV (Requested Float Voltage - 3.35V, 53.6V). When AC is restored, the only solution for now is to turn off and then turn on the option "Floating Current Voltage" in the BMS. After that, I see that the charging voltage is set to 55.2V and when the charge is finished the voltage is changed to 53.6V. For now, this charge algorithm works only by timers set in BMS. Is there any way to force the BMS to request RCV on AC restore (any trigger maybe)? May be someone know how to fix that? I've talked to DEYE support and they said that this have to be done on BMS side. Thank You!
Suggestion, since the box no longer contains a seplos bms, you may consider removing the name from the box - however since the underlaying construction was of a seplos origin I suggest use masking tape for the new section and display and spay paint the front pink after which the seplos name will still be slightly visible as an underlying shadow
I like the pink spray paint idea😄
Same problem I had with Apexium case. modified by covering communication board holes and cutting new holes. Printed the new communication board shape with scale 1:1 on paper and stuck on where to cut. Used small M3 screws with two nuts as stand off.
That's a good idea to use a paper template. Much faster than measuring three times and correcting my cutting lines😄
The humps are for wire managing!
Here's a thought. Why not just merge the two 3D prints into one that would fit the BMS and the interface board?
Yeah, you could. Or I could print a whole new front panel out of two/three parts... many options.
Hi, love your channel , about to receive my gobel cells and begin my build. Regarding 3d prints , much as i love it, it holds a flame and cannot be used in electrical installations where i am as a NSW electrician. I have a couple of printers but don't use PLA in installations unfortunately 😢
Yeah, understandable. Once the 3D parts fit, I could get them made from metal over in China for a few $$$. That would be great!

Seplos has not reacted on the issue with their energy tower which requires to put in the cell horizontally.
But EVE warns customers that the cells have to be mounted upright as usual with the valves on top.
I am tired of seplos underperformances like the missing manual and how to mount it, the missing parts and no spare part stock in europe.
3 months later or even 4 and nothing of the missing parts have been delivered.
I bet I will also have to exchange that seplos BMS with a JK BMS but I need the missing parts first.
I'm converting all vertical boxes to horizontal boxes now. Two Gopelpower DIY cases with JK have arrived today.
EVE is warning of horizontal cell mount? Where is that info coming from?
And yes the 3D printer is truly a great help
Friend now that you have tried almost all of them which do you prefer like BMS Seplos V2 or V3 or this Jk or others?
JK is still the king!
Heya, well that white again that black sticks out really well only the 4 screws I would change. the 3D printing is very handy for DIY projects.
Yeah, the screws can be avoided actually. I now have some more options to print the communication panel and mount it from the inside.

Hi Andy,
I have just brought a 3.2inch JK screen, the wire that connects to the BMS, has the same connection on both ends?, doesn't fit on the BMS end, can you tell me where I can get one that fits? Nice video, I was thinking of doing the same with a QSO battery, the day before you brought out this video.
Is the 3.2" screen compatible with your JK BMS? The cable has two different plugs normally. The tiny one for the BMS and the larger one for the screen.
Yeah, the QSO batterie is on my list as well. That's even more complicated though...
Very good job Andy. Looking at your video, I've had an idea. Instead of drilling, cutting and modifying the front plate of the Mason Seplos, why not create a plastic front plate with 3d print, designed for the JK BMS and all the relative components? Best regards!
Yes, that would be another alternative. Printing a whole new front panel...
Sacrilige! 😉

Three frogs, third place. 🥉
@@OffGridGarageAustralia I am still working on my performance
Would it be easier to surface mount the 3D printed adaptor for the communication ports on the outside of the case? You could cover the existing cut out for the ports and maybe make a cut out for the wiring
Same for the display, make an adaptor that sits over the existing cut out and you get the bigger display if you want
That may work with the bigger frontpanel of the larger 280Ah Mason box. This here is very tight and not much room to move things around.
👍😉

Maybe it's a stupid idea, but silll... would it be possible to parallel an 'old' JK BMS with the 'Perter' board and a new JK Inverter BMS and have them connected to the inverter?
They will not communicate together. The old JK uses TTL signal while the new one uses RS485.
Peter is working on a solution for that... We should be able to parallel all kind of BMS once it is ready.
Hi Andy, I need your help. I install two batterys(new jkbms) with Growatt inverter. I set "Continued Charge current" as 40A (both bms). Then the charging current on inverter is 80A(command from bms) and the inverter don't allow me change a charging current(on inverter) because BMS send a command to it. In the ideal situation, both battery will be charged 40A on each unit. But the real situation that I face sometime. The first battery is charged 45A and second battery is charged 35A. Then the first bms is turn off charging port via " over charge current protection". I think Jkbms should have separate "Over charge current parameter". Please suggest me.
Ady was wondering if You ever tried a shortwave radio near your garage. I am a Amateur Radio op here in the states and my station is in the country at a cabin recent fires took power out for over a week so was thinking of going off grid. Another big JK Inverter firmware BUG???
Hi Andy, did you test a JK Inverter BMS as a master and one (ore more) slaves connected with RS485 to the master? In my Victron-System I got via CAN only max/min cell-voltages and temps from the master BMS and no volt/temps from any slaves as max/min from the whole battery-system (all packs). The cell-block-count, capacity and all other values are reported correct to victron. I updated the JK firmware to the newest 14.20 but this BUG still exists. Do you (or any other user) have this problem too?
It still has a lot of issues and jk support doesn’t actually care
For example the SOC is not related to total voltage so you will have different soc with same voltage
Besides it sucks with other inverters like the Growatt and Sofar
Yes, I heard about this bug and tested it. No such issue here. Master still showed the slave after two weeks...
@@OffGridGarageAustralia its not that it doesnt show the slave
You got me wrong
What I meant is that im having different SOC with the same voltage in the same battery, so in one day Im getting 50% for about 51.xx and other days its 50% for 50 volts or even 48
So I think its because the SOC now is depending one single cell voltage when any cell reaches the “SOC 100%” value in the settings then after that it doesn’t really change according to the total voltage
If you have a choice between Seplos v2, v3 and new JK BMS and your inverter is Victron Multiplus2, what will be your selection?
