@Victron Energy , do you have a 3 phase off-grid solution with one big inverter yet? Or in the pipeline?l (like for 20 or 30KVA?)

Amazingly well designed system! I have been working on a very low budget building up my solar off grid system for over a year now and mine is piece meal. I have 13k of panels, almost 40k of battery and too many inverters to count (over 14) for a total of 46.5k of 120v and 6k of 240v. Your system is HUGE and you will need it. We are now very close to not using propane or gas. We still need more panels and batteries for the very hot 105f+ days due to clouds etc. We do have enough to heat in winter because we don't get much clouds here in winter. I know you have plenty of wood to heat but to be able to use inductive cooking, blender, Instant Pot etc is so amazing. You can literally eliminate propane completely. You can even use on demand elec water heating no problem. Yours is the best designed system I have seen online. Some out there are bigger, but very expensive and wasteful due to power usage of their system units. Great work!

One thing you can do with the canned spray foam is to use it as an adhesive. You can use it to glue your panels to the wall, not just seal the edges. You just have to apply pressure to the panels until it gets done expanding and sets up. (~30min) You can also glue two panels together to make a thicker panel.

  • @Mark-m9z4q

I really like the dual use for the shipping container: 1) housing the support equipment and 2) acts as the support for the panels. My wife used to complain about our electric bills until I bought a solar power system. We've had it for about a year and just got our first bill last month: $3.00 (That's right: Three Dollars), all of the other subsequent months since installation, we owed zero dollars. We were elated. I also got a 10KW backup battery for the system. Good luck with your system.

Excellent video, thanks. The solar system is impressive. I suspect that a some point you will need to add a backup generator. We have a grid tied solar system that was installed in March. It is amazing how well it works, our power bill has dropped from $250.00 per month to $10.00. We also get internet monitoring and it is amazing how much a few clouds effect the power production. Thanks for taking the time record and share your lives with us.

I love this. I just started designing solar systems at work and this build is a great setup. The adjustable tilt idea was a smart move. You two have some serious power now. 40,000W!! Also the electrical setup is great. Easy connections, 450V per string so more panels on each string, and room for expansion. Well done! I don't know your current setup obviously, but electrifying your property and getting rid of propane and other fuel powered devices may be possible (except for emergency situations obviously). Looking forward to future updates!

Okay, I am still all about exterior framing a shipping container to mitigate the "beer can effect". You can 2x6 exterior frame, plenty of space for wire and plumbing chase and enough cavity to insulate it all any possible way you want to. This leaves more room inside (nail frame for interior wall finishes) so you'll have maximized floor space. I want to park containers side by side then on top of each other, exterior framed, full roof truss. All the strength is really in the containers, framing outside allows for traditional finishes of every type, 2x6 is minimal framing for plumbing and electrical to run through and services outside and in. 2x8 framing might work better in extreme climates that get either really cold or hot, but would make insulation work so much better and easier to run your services with less of a headache and more protection.
I love your set up, you know your budget, and your methodology allows for repairs or upgrades while staying efficient and thrifty AF.

Keep your system completely separate from the grid. There are devices which can run your house on your system and then switch back to grid if your batteries get low, but don't require permits or permission from the power company because you are not feeding power to them. Maybe run part of your needs off your system and reduce grid usage without them seeing that you are not using any at all for times which might trigger them.

I found that in wet winter weather your arc fault detection tends to give problems (false tripping) so we reconfigured the dc voltage input to 370 volts instead of the 500 open circuit maximum rated voltage. No more problems. We found that mc4 connector outside of conduit is an issue in wet weather. Just a tip. Love your videos . Fred

I've been living off grid for years and just love it. With your solar, be aware that any shading on a string, will drop the output of the whole string. Even something small like a cable shadow over one panel will affect all the panels in that string. You won't notice it much in sommer, but in winter when you hunt for every Watt, it comes into play.
Have fun and enjoy the amazing Solar Life.

If, after all this, you still have problems with the Conex box getting too hot, you might want to think about digging an 8' deep U-Shaped channel on the back-side and burring a sealed culvert flanged against the Conex box (Sealed so you don't introduce water into your electronics.) This will allow you to use a fan (similar to the exhaust fan) and use the Culvert as extra cooling (With extra surface area for the cooling)

When I bought my shipping containers the company let me in on a tip to get rid of the squeak on the door hinges. They said to take a map gas or propane torch and heat up the hinge, this melts the bushing inside to relieve the pressure the bushing puts on the hinge pin. Result is easier door to open and no more squeaks. I tried greasing, penetrating oil, you name it and nothing worked until I tried this. Propane will take along time but map gas is quicker as there is allot of steel that soaks the heat up.

SOK batteries already have precharge resistors I believe, and regardless if they didn’t , generally you would set everything up with the batteries all turned off at their breakers, the inrush isn’t as critical as so many make of it if you have a breaker in the circuit which you should have anyhow. One of these SOK batteries alone will easily precharge the inverter circuits without any calamity when you flick the first breaker switch, then u can sequentially turn on all the others without issue, of course there is the synchronising with the dip switches. This is not meant to be a criticism, just a FYI, other’s opinions may differ. Nice job, great vids. Cheers

Thinking of cutting the cable on my power company on my home. Lots to research.
Look forward to the total cost video after seeing each Battery is $1795 each? Whoa!

The pivoting array is very cool, I started my off-grid project over two years ago. It took far more than I imagined to get though winter and cloudy days. I have 103 500 bifacial panels, and 180kwh battery banks. It will be interesting to see if you have enough for winter. On a nice sunny day I can hit close to 500amps of charge rate into the banks. I stated out with on 12kw inveter and realized it was not enough now I have two one for each subpanel. I'm running 8 120 amp charge controllers.

@@AmbitionStrikes It really got out of hand and we only average 2200kw per month. Last winter was not easy and so we expaned more this summer. I'm building one more 4p16s for the heating and cooling side in hopes that will solve the winter issues.

Dexter is great on the phone and is a no-brainer to buy SOK w/ current connected over signature solar lifepower series. I just added a 31kw battery system to my SMA system.

This channel is a new find - very much enjoying. Impressive solar setup!
Perhaps already discussed - my background in telecom power systems makes me very nervous about lack of protection from physical contact with the bus bars on the batteries. Some clear lexan sheets would prevent accidental contact in an area where you might be doing additional work.
There’s enough power there to make for a very bad day!
    Keep up the good work…

Very impressive!!! I am concerned about wind load on the panels. Just looks like the pivot point and bracing is a little weak. Very nice system though!!!

Been watching you all since before you changed the name to "Ambition Strikes"...love it & thoroughly enjoy watching y'all!
We bought 81 acre ranchette in Colorado last April (6,860 elevation)... running into similar cost on getting power & water. So... consequently we can easily cost justify going completely off grid.
We just finished our 800' road, moved into a 5th wheel (September) & placed it by our 20' shipping container for the winter while we prepare to build our barndo in the spring. (Living off 12v solar for the moment... but want more while we build.
Yesterday, we insulated & finished 6' of it similar to yours for a semi permanent Solar component room. The other 14' will remain as our tool shed...so tomorrow we will be building an insulated wall/door. Is that what you did too or did you finish/ insulate the entire thing eventually? Thx... love watching you all.

I like the idea of going full solar and not having to worry about dependency on the power company or rising power costs.
But I also lack the money needed to setup a full off grid system.

no click bait. i was estimating off-grid setup for one youtuber with 24/7 split type air-con yesterday. He needs six of this 48V server rack battery which I thought is quite massive enough.🤯🤯 quite curious why they need so much, quite overkill. I hear him mention weld, but an inverter type welder is only under the power rating of its power cable.

Awesome setup !!! Only issue is the reflective surface on the rigid insulation is supposed to face inward to help with reflecting heat...

I would make some wind deflectors on the backside in case a heavy storm passes. Wind from the back can really damage your installation badly in different ways.
