How many of you could say for sure which is the world’s fastest boat? Making a very fast boat is arguably even harder than making a fast car; you have the water and weather to worry about, and all the technology required to increase speed while keeping the ship afloat. The people who make them should get more recognition! Here are the fastest boats in the world!

One late 70's Aussie maniac with a 69$ jet engine doing 317.33MPH on water has got to be THE underdog of all underdogs. Wow..
cassual australian activities
agreed!
Isn't he dead?
Yep, Ken Warby is the King.
i met ken warby at an event, i had a chance to ask him what its like at over 300 mph on the water. He said (with his ozzy accent) "ah, its just a boat ride" what a legend
Aussie*
and as always the one guy in his garage beats them all
Just like John Britten. No pencil-pushing bureaucracy to deal with leaves more manpower to deal with solving the problems. And that's why socialism never works too.
@@TonyRule Absolutely! But some people never learn.
Almost every big successes happen in the garage (cant say for bands though)
@phục êwê Thai longboat engine!🤣
I had the pleasure of interviewing ken Warby in 2005 for radio - a nice guy with a sense of humour. He is determined to do this in AUSTRALIA - a very patriotic guy, shame very few business's have the same loyalty and back him.
His son now is the driver of the new world record attempt effort. David has raced old style hydroplanes for some years.
He's dead
Making a boat go faster isn't the problem. Making it not killing you in the process is the challenge.
Yora so true is easy to make a boat go fast the hard part is not killing yourself in the process and slowing a boat down is hard in the world of drag boat racing
Ya. Fuck water. I have no desire to go fast on water.
Yep my great uncle died that way rest in peace seagrave
I was disappointed that most of these speeds were done in lakes. I suppose dead water is the only water you could do those. Still would've been great to know the fastest and had the least structural damage on moving water (decent size waves)
Im wasnt interested in skipping boats. Thats like saying a shuttlecar (which can go to 1000mph) and you cant drive them on the road or even street legal.
It think 80 mph is the fastest one you could go when it comes to non oceanic waters.
Yora exactly!
I never thought that record would still be standing over 40 years after i saw this boat in practice runs, holy crap, it was the loudest thing id ever heard back then.
That boat, screaming down the dam at over 300 mph, was a sight to see, couple hundred feet long rooster tail flying off the back,
Weren't many 15 year old boys got to see that. my year ten class on interstate tour were the only ones i know of.(pity our school tour bus was broken down on the opposite side of the dam ) . Would have loved to have a closer look .
The jet engine used in the Spirit of Australia was built in the 1940’s. Hence why he managed to get it so cheap. A power craft record from 1978 still stands now, amazing.
The last boat seems like it would be in a UA-cam video titled: how to DIY the fastest boat in the world!😂😂😂
I grew up watching the drag boat races at home in Augusta Georgia on the Savannah River. There is nothing like a top fueler screaming down the river going 250 mph. The thunder you feel in your chest is unreal there is nothing like it!
Don't use the term "turbocharged" when you don't even know what it means. Especially when the turbo version is turbine powered.
Yeah...How dare he.
@@Kanamit. oh I'm still very offended. One might say the most offended of all time.
"Whether you use sails or electrics..." I agree. This guy is a clown.
@@Kanamit. yes especially when a turbine is literally called a turbo machine. Must be a moron
and what about "electronic boats"?
5:55 The record at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is unlikely to be broken anytime soon because they shortend the course to reduce terminal speeds following the blow-over death of Outerlimits owner Mike Fiore (sp?) and his co-driver.
The Spirit of Qatar, same as the turbine Miss Gieco, is a Mystic hull and also raced (poorly) a few times against the Murcury powered version of Miss Gieco, CMS, and a few others.
(Some of the Miss Gieco footage used here is the Mercury powered hull with 4 exhaust pipes sticking up out of the rear decks.)
On a side note...
LOTO is also home to Bob Bull's CMS Racing's 48 and 52ft Marine Technology Inc (MTI) cats powered by twin 1650hp Mercury racing 9.2L V8's. Bob also has a 3rd open cockpit cat. All are orange and silver. The CMS teams have pretty much spanked Gieco lately. Gieco also had a pretty nasty crash with another boat a few years ago.
I was at the Ozark shootout when the Quatar beat the record, that was the same day that another boat driver and his co-pilot died because the boat caught air and flipped, very sad but very exciting day for me I was about 8 years old.
Z
I come from Taree and I’ve seen the new boat run on the water a couple of times
Only one died and that was three days later from complications in surgery. Owner and driver of the boat was fine and is still a customer to this day. Owner of the company was throttle man and many more details you don’t know. Don’t post what you don’t know
catfish4975 I’m literally just giving the proper information, calm down bud
@@stickshift117 both died bro, one died on scene and the other died in the hospital
244mph? Wow.. Faster then a car!
Let alone the faster one. This is amazing!
Like the vid, thumbs up. But the fastest freighter and cruise ship would have been nice to round out this video.
"Spirit of Texas" surpassed "Problem Child" in top fuel hydro in 2015 with a 274.9 mph pass!
Discussed The Blue Bird without mentioning it's ultimate fate...and the fate of the driver, nice work.
SquillyMon who you care to explain so us simpletons can be in the know as well?? #ThxMan
@@danielturk9025 Sure... Here is but one link about the Bluebird...it will lead to many many others. landspeedrecord.org/blue-bird-v-malcolm-campbell/
Cool video keep the good job rolling!
Watched the whole thing before reading the comments wondering if top fuel boats would be on the list. You did not disappoint, fantastic video!
It's also worth noting that top fuel hydros can reach 250+ mph in about 4 seconds and 1000 ft, at least when they don't blow the tail.
Salute to Donald Campbell and Bluebird! A True Pioneer!
4:36
... That's a Vanguard....
I grew up in Bradenton Florida in the ‘80s and we had some crazy fast boats. It is the home of Chriscraft, wellcraft, talon, & a lot of other boat builders.
Miss Geico hasn’t ran turbines for the last 7 years
I'm proud to be an Aussie, good on ya Ken.
R I P Ken Warby...........legend.
Should have mentioned Unlimited Hydroplanes. The turbine version of Miss Budweiser hit 220 for the kilometer UH record. The old Merlin, Allison or Griffon engined boats were capable of 170 in the straights. A couple of years ago a team ran a turbocharged Allison against the turbine boats with some good results.
April 17, 1962, Roy Duby drove Miss US Unlimited Hydro on Guntersville Lake in Alabama to a mile-straightaway speed of 200.42 mph,
a world record for a piston-powered, propeller-driven craft that still stands today. (missus1.com/)
11
yes how do you make a video about the fastest boats on water and not mention Unlimited Hydroplanes?!
IMO they ruined Unlimited racing with the turbines. There was nothing like the "Thunder Boats" running those finicky 12-cylinder engines!
That Australian man is awesome !
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!
Miss Budweiser set more records then all these slow boat put together!! Kidding. We set a lot of records. Crazy to see the speeds I recent years. .
Joe Little Your family did more for the sport than anyone. Thanks!! Mostly, thanks for selling the T-7 to Miss Madison!
Spirit of AUSTRALIA 2 will be racing to break the record again as soon as this Covid-19 crisis is over !!!
Kens son will be doing the honours here in Australia on Blowering Dam.
I saw Sir Donald Campbells Bluebird CN7 land speed car here in Australia back in the 60s after he broke the then record .
there is a donald cambell memorial at dumbleyung lake were he once beat the world record my grandad was there when he was trying to beat the record there is also a to scale replica of the bluebird in the town of dumbleyung
USS New Jersey is worth a mention, she had a top speed of 35.2 knots which doesn’t sound like much but considering she is a 60000ton monstrosity it’s pretty amazing, she had more than 200000hp and was faster than most modern yachts and warships.at that speed, she could probably create a wake like rouge wave
I'm a semi driver and I had to pleasure of delivering at the bay where the USS jersey sits. She is still beautiful.
There's a slight error, LM2500 doesn't make 59000hp a piece. Depending on version, but two combined can do the 59000hp mentioned here. The newest version LM2500+ is advertised to make ~30MW, which would be abouts 40000 in horsepower.
Some of them were sawed in half
Nice. I had a little hydrofoil when I was 12. It was really light weight , made of plywood.
I put my evinrude 6.5 h.p. engine , and did around 35 or so.
Later , against my better judgement , I let my neighbor take it out with an 18 horse outboard.
He spooled it up to somewhere around 50 m.p.h. before he hit a wave and executed a perfect 360.
Good times...
I lent my copy of Ninja Gaiden II to one of my neighbors, who then proceeded to move away from town the next day. Good times.
lmfao
@@Vespyr_ life can be cruel
You didn’t mention that the first ferry has a lot less drag
Thank you for being correct. Ken Warby has very big balls.
Me and my brother put a 25 hp Johnson on a 12 foot john boat when we where kids..It made time travel possible.
I laughed so hard at your comment. Thanks for that 🤣🤟🏻
Eddy Knox is a bad dude behind the wheel and a good guy in life
💪🏼😎 crazy eddy
Great job really great info
The Canadian government realized that if they were 1st to the fight they'll actually have to fight.
lol
I LMAO when you said the jaguar vector hit a top speed of 88/mph . In my mind i was thinking then the boat disappeared and has never been seen again lmao .
Yeah, I don't think too many UA-camrs will get the reference, but you had me rolling....
Thanks for the laugh ..
@@ComputerGuyAndy 88 mph, 1.21 jigawatts
Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need any roads.
The story behind the man at 12.01 reads like pure fantasy, almost single-handed he built that boat in his back yard in Sydney on a shoestring budget. Paid $79.00 for an obsolete J49 Westinghouse engine and set the World water speed record in 1977 and again in 78 and has held it ever since.
Australia....! Yeesssss👍😀👍😀👍😀👍
live loud YEAH DA BOISSSSS
So you got a huge boat to go 65mph, sweet.
Now... How long/far does it take to stop that monster!
Damn them Aussies!! They are insane
I did TIG welding on Donald Campbell's boat Bluebird in Yorkshire...welded the cockpit frame back to the main hull frame....
Canadian Government - "Sighting a change in Military Priorities". In other words, let the United States military protect us.
The GE LM2500, was also use on the Douglas DC10, and the US Navy's Sruance class Destroyers.
I once was the fastest boat in the world when I saw a fin on water from half mile away
I was lucky enough to see spirit of australia 2 on blowering dam 2 years ago. He went 420 when i was there
yea right: so that 140 ft yacht only has 2200 hp and it somehow pushes it to 80mph? haha .
I totally agree. A LOT of bad and inaccurate information on this video.
it's not a boat ,its a low flying aqua plane xD
I rode The Cat from Barr Harbour Maine to Yarmouth Nova Scotia back in 2008. Talk about an impressive ferry boat,..
So...the moral of the story is the UAE can spend millions, using tons of corporate engineers to build a really fast boat. Though... one man who's bored and determined can smash them, not American, but what freedom is all about!
Whoa! 9:40 looks like a modified MiniMax!
Anyone know more about that?
The Miss Geico is a little bit outdated. Miss Geico '06 already achieved 210+mph.
Well done Down Under. "Good on yer"! (UK)
Look up the boat called My Way from the 1000 islands in Ontario Canada. I think its the worlds fastest prop driven boat it runs on two Helicopter engines.
The new Top Fuel Hydro record is Liquid Voodoo driver Steve Compton at 275mph in the 800ft not even 1000ft
Kristopher Cranford thats because we going to damn fast, not enough room to slow down
That is what I call a well made video! Congrats!
An insanely fast boat sponsored by .... an insurance company? Am I the only guy who got a chuckle out of that? :) :) Thanks for sharing a great vid!
The fastest RIB is not the techno hull but the RavenRib 117 mph. Don at Coniston speed record week 2018
2:18 i think it has bad internet. its laggy
This guy is seriously getting on my nerves he called a “small” racing sailboat a ship then he keeps referring to diesel and gas boats as “electric boats”
yea people who know nothing about "boats" should not make videos about them
Walkertongdee I know right 🙄
I don’t know much about boats but I like them but doesnt the gas or Diesel power the electric
5:18 that dam inflatable rhib made the list? Does he even know anything about powerful boats, has this man ever seen a Donzi 43 ZR?
Spirit of qatar smahed geico's record
Ive seen my way a few times on the st Lawrence. It would be miles out in front of the poker runs.
That's pretty dope
"Dope" lol...
88MPH, back to the future or back 2 the future?
Electronic boats?
H1 Unlimited hydroplanes are the fastest circuit racing boats in the world.
That is not from me but is from the H1 Unlimited channel on UA-cam.
Wish this 12 minute video would have included the unlimited hydroplanes that fly across the water at over 200 mph.
Back in the late 80's, I got to go for a few hours of fun in my salesmans buddies 1987 Wellcraft Nova 3 doing 80+ mph @ 5000ft elevation. That said...these listings here are old, outdated or inaccurate.
South Bay makes a pontoon boat 925CR that can go over 115 mph on just 600hp
My little semi skiff hits 30-40 mph and it feels like am going 200 on my bike.
There is a reason no one chases that record
You haven't seen squat till they've seen my 17'6" square stern canoe with a 28lb thrust electric.
put a 70 on it lmao.
would be a way better video if did tell the speed in knots aswell
It doesn't carry thousands of passengers. maximum capacity is one thousand.
After the 1st world record 1977 he got help from the Air Force to rebuild the engine so it did not need to use a afterburner for the 2nd world record in 1978 so not totaly build by him self but a impressive record. Think it is hes son who gona drive the Spirit of Australia II if i remember it right.
I took a second take on the statement that setting the record doesn't take anything away from the boat's team - whatever that is supposed to mean.
I took two solid rocket boosters from NASA and connected them to my Yamaha Waverunner. I hit a top speed of 1364 mph. It was fun.
You're Right one nasa would not give away two heavy rocket boosters to some random and the rocket fuel would be super expensive
Woosh
Was that on the water or in the air !!!
Fastest homemade Sea-To-Sea missle.
team epic Armstrong Wow you must work for the FBI with that level of intelligence
Imagine the size of the turbo on the yatcht
You wanna see the fastest boat in history? Simple, in Crew 2, just climb to 15,000 ft. And switch to your favorite boat mid air, and watch your speedometer go crazy.
Nar mate terminal velocity free falling is about 200kph, Warbys record is over 510kph
In the crew 2, my record is about 420 mph.
Don Arronow was a genius and introduced the 24 degree bottom
I cut wind in an aluminum boat and lit it with a match and my friends jumped out of the water, about 50mph or so
I grew up water skiing and hitting the at 50 mph the wrong way is going to break some bones, so did he live?
No way that Yacht only has 1,000 hp. No way in hell sir.
Why?
Nope, its 5000 Hp in that thing, but even with 5000hp, its impressive they made a yacht that big go 70 knots... Some can only go 30knots at max, norm is around 25 knots...
@vibratingstring yes also it's not that crazy having 5000 think about what it has to push. I totally agree with u
@@blewyd because my dad is the captain of a 54ft Bertram that has 2 900 hp diesel engines and it doesnt go anywhere near 70 knots. Even with 5000 hp that is really impressive for that size yacht
It has 10 000hp
5300hp Diesel
4700hp Jet Turbines
I doubt ANY record will stand forever, and certainly NOT top sailing speed. That PROA was damned impressive though....what amazed me even more than the speed was the acceleration during that run. It got from much less than that speed to that speed in a very short time. There is some video of it on YT.
Dave Warby (son of record holder Ken) is already trialling Spirit of Australia II with it's more powerful jet engine. Experts predict the boat will smash the 400mph barrier and set a new world water speed record at Blowering Dam in Australia
Swedish T56 Torpedo boat enter chat: *Coughs* Sorry wheres our mention?
Brador leaves chat:........
Swedish T56 Torpedo Boat: I thought so!
The dude at the end will probably brake the record again
Please take note that the course that spirit of Qutar went 244mph on was only a mile long and it was a rolling start of 60mph.
They also had a premature parachute deployment on their initial run that could have been disastrous. I was at that shootout.
SinisterMD I forgot about that. I haven’t been to LOTO yet but have went to lake Cumberland poker run for the past 20 years and went to desert storm twice. That’s my old 25 Daytona in my profile pic.
@@colinfarrens8400 Back in 2012 Greg Olson went 192 MPH in his 33' Eliminator Daytona. Fast boats for sure.
SinisterMD yeah I love Greg’s eliminator. My grandpa has a 33 Daytona with twin 525s.
H1 Hydros deserve to be in this list!
2:28 did he go back to the Future?
so much was going on in the 60s!
Did he just say Uh Ruguay
Gotta love fast stuff on water...
I thought geico got out of racing sponsorship when they had the deadly accident
I saw the Problem Child boat crash when I was little. I don't remember where it was, but somewhere in California and it flipped.
I like how he pronounced Qatar. Funny stuff.
I saw the geico boat in the keys . We where on the road and they where bring it. On its side on the road
I say it in Ocean city, Maryland
It’s a nice boat
It's actually called Coniston Water and that was a picture of Ullswater I think. Also Bluebird is called K7 not JK7
no mention of turbine marathon jets or jet sprint
2x 530 hp for a yacht you mean 2x 5300
Yeah that didn’t sound right at all.
