You guys bought the truck for a reason and it couldn’t get it done for what you needed to do. Makes total sense. Some people don’t understand that functionality aspect of it. Maybe it’s because the channel is mainly everything vintage. A lot of us got tired of tv shows swapping diesels and modern drivetrains into old cars. This channel gave us something different. Probably hard for some folks to break away from. But I know the difference between this truck and the hot rods. This is a business truck with the old feel because it needs to be a workhorse. Good job guys

Ha! I like the old school chain hoist too, but there are times that they can get a tad bit annoying, as to where an electric winch with the controls in your hand can be a blessing. They can be a cursing, too, if you get a little impatient with what you are attempting to do. There's good and bad in just about anything...😊😮😂

No brainer swap for the truck, my 68 c10 that i use as a truck has a gasp 5.3 ls and my 36 has a 59a flathead you can like both sides and still be a traditional hot rodder.
Those Fords always did have the best cabs. The doors sound like bank vaults. But they never did seem as good as GM in terms of powertrain. At least in my experience. This will close that gap - and then some.
Love the swap you’re doing! That engine might be a candidate for a 50’s/60’s hot rod. I hope the fuel tank will be moving outside the cab, nothing worse than smelling diesel for hours. A set of air brakes would be nice also. And while you’re at it- a/c, power steering, stereo system, etc, but keep it traditional 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I think the shop was built in the early 60s maybe. At least you’re not dangling engines over your excellent automobiles with a fork truck like is seen in some videos.
best thing I did was set a good 4 post lift with 180 degree swing jib crane with ELECTRIC hoist. Pull heavy engine, swing over to work area and set trans etc on work bench. I'm old and worn out but this set up took all the pain out of rebuilding, which I have to do to keep sane.

Yeah, it would be nice to keep it stock if you're going to just park it in the shed and look at it, but to make it more useable out on the road, the 12valve will be a good, reliable swap that is easy to work on, and give decent fuel mileage and power to run in traffic when loaded. You'll be more interested in driving the truck and using it much more for things you wouldn't have before. Anyone who has ever driven those gas trucks knows how underpowered and slow they really were, especially the smaller engines like you have. This will be a nice user truck when finished. I would look at power steering and A/C as an option while you're doing the swap. I believe the steering gear off of one of the later Fords is a little heavier and would work on that truck. Have fun Matt!
... also. I realize this isn't a Model T stake bed. BUT I never understood those that criticize a "work truck" power plant upgrade. THIS CATEGORY of hot rodding is a completely different, purpose adventure. THAT DIESEL will put you upon a different and more comfortable planet.

The previous owner took very good care of this truck. I was amazed at the area under the seat. There must have been only the owner driving it. Great job!👍
I am getting a little ahead of your videos, but where do you plan on relocating battery? The diesel will require two batteries so you might as well put them together somewhere. Also, what radiator do you plan on using? The existing one will not be big enough for the Cummins. Good luck- this is a big job to make this change but the truck should run stronger and faster.
Sweet! This thing will finally be able to keep up with traffic. It'd be sweet if you could score some old school diesel gauges to really compliment the build.
Yo all of the nay sayers, which is better a truck that you cant use and just sits or a truck that is usable and gets driven? Im sure a lot if people have visions of a welder up style build. Im absolutely sure iron trap build will encompass the best of both worlds, vintage look and modern driveability. Lgcustoms did a swap that embraces those ideas and is super cool. Cant wait to see more
Oops a shower of antifreeze on Steve, not good but that's the it was back then. A good toggle open will be better. Hope you are okay Steve. Nice job guys.
My Dad's old wrecker was a '47 Chevy 2 ton. It was a flatbed that belonged to a lumber company. When he converted it to a wrecker back in the day, he replaced the 261 Chevy six with an inline GMC 302 six and swapped a 2spd axle under it. Then custom built the wrecker bed. Before he passed away (much too young), he had plans to put a 351 GMC V-6 in it, that never came to fruition.

Ya wanna buy it?🤔?
With the new Diesel comes 4 time the torque. Better box that channel frame and add gussets where appropriate. Just saying...

Big red is getting some powerful upgrades. Phase 1 complete. Phase 2 cleanup and prep for install.
Easy Peasy, coming apart.
I hope it goes together as well for you guys.
Nice Video. You are always changing shit up. So it's no Surprising of what you are doing. Looking Forward to the next in Cummins Video.

Hilarious. My uncle would always empty antifreeze in his driveway, just to not mess up his garage floor. THEN DRIVE IT IN. 😂😂
Oh, if necessary, Matt will build the added space for the batteries, and radiators are easily acquired nowadays.
The fan noise is fine, can't really hear it.
Why didn't you back the truck in? would have far more room to work

👍😀
Sweet! This thing will finally be able to keep up with traffic.
It'd be sweet if you could score some old school diesel gauges to really compliment the build.
Don't know about that, still have the same gears
You are definitely not paying Steve enough, can't afford to get a haircut, or a hair net to protect his long locks.😆😆😆😆😆😆
Did you mention anything about the rear end gear ratio? Or did I just miss it?
We didn’t mention it
Yo all of the nay sayers, which is better a truck that you cant use and just sits or a truck that is usable and gets driven? Im sure a lot if people have visions of a welder up style build. Im absolutely sure iron trap build will encompass the best of both worlds, vintage look and modern driveability. Lgcustoms did a swap that embraces those ideas and is super cool. Cant wait to see more
About time you slackers, HAHA joke. Be cool having it painted with pin stripe with irontrap on it.
Oops a shower of antifreeze on Steve, not good but that's the it was back then. A good toggle open will be better. Hope you are okay Steve. Nice job guys.
Dude!!! Does it have a 2spd rear end??? Plus 60 mpd with bias ply tires with a straight axle!!! ✌️
Cummins are LONGER THAN V8 BY MUCH , NEEDS COOLING PAK SPACE TOO....HMM
A Ford deserves an International DT360. You lost a lot of cool points here.
Show up with a reliable one for cheap and it’ll happen
I'm sorry, but this truck has been a money pit since day one. I can't do anything more than they can do with the trailers they have now..
Why, won't go any faster or have really any more power, I thought you were a old car guy
You’re wrong.
