The Online Piano & Violin Tutor hello Alison I want to ask you this When you order one violin from fiddlerman what taxes and duty you pay??(I have a friend in uk and I’m thinking to buy one...)(concert violin..)
@@giwrgos0080 To be honest, Im not sure. I reviewed some violins last year and had to pay customs, but the 3 i reviewed just recently, I didnt. I wouldnt like to say, but I would factor in customs to the price to be safe.
How often do you buy an instrument? The last one I bought(viola) was 30yrs ago. Paid a lot for it, but didn't need to upgrade. Still have it today and love it. And for a string instrument $4000 isn't that bad. Unless you are a student in which case the other insturment would suffice. Not bad.
You can use Pirastro string cleaner - I wouldn’t like to use anything else in case it stripped the coating off the string - assuming you have expensive strings. If you have cheap strings, just buy more. I wouldn’t clean them often if at all as I really think that if they need cleaning, then they need changing...
Can I ask you a question about strings? Can we use strings from a hollow body violin on a electric violin? I am calling all the music stores in my town and even outside of my home town and I am getting conflicting information some people say it depends on the pick up on the amplifier and some people so you can interchange them summer say no you can’t. LOL can you help me? Thank you so much.
You can use whatever strings you like on any violin - its totally a personal preference. Having said that, the only strings I would ever put on an electric violin are Helicores. This is because they are nice steel strings and because electric violins do not have hollow bodies where the strings vibrate through, steel strings suit electric violins more. Helicores have the perfect balance between being not too bright, or not too muted, not too harsh, not too deep etc etc.
The Online Piano & Violin Tutor thank you sooooooo much!! And I also wanted to tell your your hair looks beautiful!! I’m a hair dresser by trade n notice people hair first. Lol yours looks lovely in ALL your videos but I noticed it seemed a little of a lighter shade?😃❤️🤗👌🎻
I agree with you the first violin sounded weak compared to the second one. As you played I played along with you and I would not trade one of my 100 to 150 year old German workshop violins for both of the China made violins although they sounded good they were not that good and I did not pay anything near $4000 for both of them. One of my lesser violins ,made in USA around 1900 evens sounds better to me and I only gave $100.00 for it. I do want to thank you for the demonstration I was really interested in trying on of the China made violins but couldn't find any dealers in the area. I have several fine violin dealers where I can still buy quality violins. I must say $4000.00 for a China made violin does make one gasp. Again I thank you so much I did enjoy it.
The backs on those are beautiful! I'd love to have that on even a Stratocaster style guitar. Wouldn't even have to be a Les Paul. 👍 Yea, I'm a guitar guy yet I'm watching a vid about violins. Lol
I have an Irish bouzouki that my friend who is a luthier made for me, everything , the body and neck are made out of flame maple, the flames move in the light, beautiful instrument
I find that the Holstein Cannone has a very nice sound to it and a higher voice to it compared to the Holstein Bench Plowden. I like the Cannone better than the Plowden basing my feedback on your violin playing and sound.

Hello Allison, I just got my violin a few weeks ago and was wondering how do you clean violin strings? Thank you for all of your videos!

Thank you! This has helped a lot!
Merry Christmas, Alison.
did they get any warmup prior to the demo?
No not really. I played them a tad just to tune them and to hear what they sounded like, but I would say no.

As soon as you started playing it was easy to hear the difference between the sound.🎶🎼💖🔥🗿
What size is the good for the adult?
full size
I prefer the Bench made violin, it has a smother and wider sound witch I like alot!
and I do think it is worth double the prize.

👏 When played by a masterful musician with such perspicacity, they both sound exemplary. 😉 🎻 ♫
Breathtaking on both to my untrained ears.

I’m getting my very first violin on Monday and I don’t plan on having a teacher I want to be self taught
I just happened to prefer the Holstein Workshop over the Plowden Bench.
The BENCH sounds more polished than the WORKSHOP. You seemed to enjoy playing the BENCH more than the WORKSHOP.
There is over $2,000 difference in price, so that might have been it 😉
... for sound quality, the bench is in a different class hence the $$!
the bench sounds richer
i like the 2000$ one way better.
