Loved when you said: Wearing black at weddings isn't a good idea.
I think women who wear black on happy occasions have no imagination and want to be SAFE.

Your video was very informative and enjoyable. One thing I would have included is stockings and hose/or shaving legs/underarms (if wearing sleeveless especially). Also accessories, such as the right handbag or purse to wear. I tend to wear one bag until it dies, but an evening bag is very important. I like the point of having some shine in a material for a dressy occasion. I have never heard anyone point that out before and it makes a lot of sense. You also included some fabulous photos of dresses. What is interesting to me is that a friend of mine who is 58 is getting married next July (2025) and I will re-think the dress in my closet I was going to wear. Our figures have really expanded over the years, so I will use your advice when I buy the dress I'll wear to hear wedding. Thank you.

I also wouldn’t wear sequins to a daytime wedding. But, I don’t ever wear them.

I would never wear black, white or cream to a wedding. Black, which can be very chuc, is just too somber. I love wearing white every chance I get, but everyone else looks great in it too, and it’s the bride’s day to wear it! Nor do I wear it to wedding-related events like showers and rehearsal dinners, the bride will want to wear it then, too. I have several silk dresses in colors and prints and I wear these to weddings. Yes, I have a black dress fir every season to wear to funerals, too: linen, thin silk, silk jersey and cashmere. I can wear these anytime, dressed more casually, too.

A peplum of the right length is supposed to help disguise pregnancy or a protruding tummy. It is important to be able to have this concealment. Peplums have been in and out of fashion since the 1930’s and 1940’s, so they are perpetually in fashion if they look good on the individual. The current peplums are too short, so I would avoid those and only wear vintage or copies of vintage.
I agree with you about black being wrong for weddings. A college friend wore black to my wedding and I was very offended (of course, I didn’t say anything).

Very interesting, thank you for your comment. You are right that peplum will hide the belly but if the person is plus side and wearing peplum, it will create even bigger illusion of her body. I was more referring to that. Now I have also seen nice peplum tops which look nice. The old fashioned ones I presented on the photos. ❤️

Florals on white dresses was something in the 2000's. I wouldn't say flowers on black looks that dated in North America, but the dilemma I've found is what season (certain kinds of) flowers look right vs when black looks appropriate. Roses bloom in January in the South, but black in any kind of decor in Florida just looks psychotic no matter how many people have tried to make it classy. Black with tropical winter blooms may also run this dilemma (for me). Black being the "night time thing" , it's appropriate for mourning, concert(not a choir or play that needs color to communicate), sexy (lingerie, nightclub), maybe sharp for corporate wear or wintertime is the only daytime passibilty .Black isn't summertime maybe you could get away with a floral black dress at a nighttime garden concert or could it be March or September....
However, I think there are some differences in what's considered dated and modern in Europe vs North America.

I wore a LAN in black Jersey suit and white blouse with a black hat for my wedding. It was a civil ceremony and looked very elegant. It was not conventional choice but looked great.

A few years ago I went to a wedding that was outside in the desert. It was 89°. We went inside for the reception and everyone in the wedding was wearing black. I was wearing cream and tan because of the heat. I also wore a hat. I stood out because everybody else was in black and I never seen anyone wear black to a wedding.😢

Maybe Melissa McCarthy and Princess Catherine don't agree.
You have referenced both of them. Ms McCarthy has a degree in fashion design and her highness has a series of royal dressers.

Every person has different taste and fashion is a lot based on it. Also to be remembered that what fits one person does not always fit the others. In this video are presented general principles.

I only wear soft colors, brights don’t suit me. The only time I wear (pink) neon is on the ski slopes, so my party can spot me easily from a distance.

I would like to see a video on how to choose the correct footwear. I often see women with fat feet or ankles wearing a shoe with the wrong type of heel or that is too delicate. I have also seen women with very skinny legs wearing boots that are too large on the calf.

A-line skirts are most suited to my body shape. It has been since I was a child, and now I'm 65 years old. My natural shape is large bust but waist and hips are about the same. My southern American culture taught me that if we show something, we show one thing only. If your skirt is short, you do not wear cleavage or exposed shoulders. If you are exposing your shoulders, your skirt is at least knee length. Backless means braless, and unless we are very small breasted, not a good choice. If you will be showing cleavage, only the top, not cut down to the navel, plus at least knee length and back is covered. Jewelry is minimal. Wear solitaire earrings and a discreet necklace like pearls, or a small pendant necklace, or just a chain. Make up is discreet. This is just my culture, and I think it matched yours very well. Also, asking the bride's representative what color the bridesmaids are wearing is important. I made this mistake once, with a dear friend, and wore the same color as her wedding party. I was so embarrassed. Black bridesmaids dresses are not uncommon in the US, but guests should never wear it. This is just my culture. I enjoyed your video! It makes a lot of sense. Now have an elder friend come discuss the same subject.

Poor Melissa McCarthy! She is absolutely gorgeous and so talented but her stylist needs fired! She does absolutely nothing for Melissa. Her stylist seems to be obtaining Melissa's wardrobe from Walmart and even then she does not have them tailored correctly or she's giving the outfits right off the rack. They are so ill-fitting, out of style and with no style. Please someone tell Melissa this! She is so beautiful and with the right clothes she would be truly stunning!

Yes, in this country black is traditionally for funerals so one could take it that if a guest came in black to your wedding, it’s as if they’re in mourning because of the wedding.

Choosing loose fitting dresses to cover the stomach was popular in the 2000's. More recently it became popular to have good corseting . The kibbe and bone structure/stature dressing that's popular now though will dictate how you work with your stomach area by including your build. For instance, choosing mumu style dresses, Loosely fitting African gowns and any long , vertical flowing conical dresses with accomodation for the shoulders would work very well for Naturals. Some corseting and roundness would be more supportive of a Romantic.

Loving your advice! Many if these rules used to be very common knowledge in the older generations, every woman knew this; sadly it's been lost and it is wonderful to see these suggestions ❤ Also welcoming the recent style updates!
Just a small note,'hair' is used with a verb 'is' ( not plural 'are'as in your mother tongue and other slavic languages)❤

    • @elizabethnavarre7972

Yep, "hair" is plural is most languages, Romance languages too. I once had a gentleman comment on how long and beautiful my "hairs" were. You pointed it out very kindly.

Lace is *not* "always" polyester. Cotton lace is more expensive, but it is available. One can, if necessary, makes one's own cotton lace.
