Disk brake locks are a additional defence, they are near impossible to get off without causing damage, and most thieves steal bikes to sell them on. This is going to put most of them off, and they are quite cheap also.
Does essentially any disc brake lock designed for a motorcycle work for a bicycle ? I searched for “disc brake lock bicycle” and all the still shots show motorcycles.
The top Kryptonite will fail in 14 seconds when hit with an angle grinder. That $4000 bike warrantee is un collectable (they will not payout) Abus locks are the best, but all locks will fail against an angle grinder in less than 120 seconds. Take your bike inside, set it in the tallest gear. Hide a gps device in the handle bar. Do NOT lose eye contact with the bike.

I guess this is all Eurocentric or Englishcentric because you didn't include the Kyrptonite New York Standard near the top. It's a nine compared to the "NY Forgetaboutit" being a ten.
Reading here i get the feeling nothing will stop a determined thief, but you can`t leave it unprotected anywhere, making me nervous about buying my new bike next week.
@@thecyclingdane The lock itself is no great guns but the siren is loud and the pager beeps/vibrates up to several hundred feet away. Mine is an early production bought 7 years ago. It was used on an MC now used on an ebike.
And yes i do spend over 100.00 for a lock. I know it's probably an inconvenience but I put as many locks as I can on my bike just as a deterrent because they have to. Remove every 1 of them And if you can make it harder for the piece of c*** thieves it makes better for you
Every time I see someone riding a bike I first assume the bike is stolen. If cyclists would not buy bikes off the street, or from the thieves, the bike theft would go dramatically down in this country. I have a friend who owns a bike shop and he sees so many bikes brought in for repairs that were purchases off craigslist or other non-traceable sources.
John you make good points. What would happen if your bike shop owner friend ran the S/N Bikes.Index and discovered it was stolen? It's a delicate balance between wanting to be a good sales & support resource and helping the real owner of that bike get it back. I just had my Giant Trance E+ Pro (a $6,500), purchase stolen on 09-24-21 in San Francisco, My hope is that someone does run the serial number but chances are its gone forever. Finding a good locking & theft prevention system is why I am here watching this video. I need the right combination of security to mitigate this happening to me ever again.
nope, even that lock can be broke...so if you are going to use it, apparently you need to put your warranty in within 14 days or the $4000 insurance is void!
not only would i spend over 100 quid on a bike lock, but i have already spent that much or more on a lock, multiple times over the years. i'm once again in the market for a good one. the best lock i currently own is the one i brought back from living in beijing. it is a heavy steel chain type lock with fabric coating around the chain links. i'm not sure if the fabric coating is reinforced, but it feels tough... especially considering that i bought it for a few dollars from an old guy in a cluttered box on the side of the street. literally an old guy inside of a box. anyway, 8 years later, i have lost or had stolen all my other locks, and this is the one that refuses to quit... but i am actively looking for a replacement. after watching your top 5 list, i alllllmost bought a LiteLok right away. thankfully i looked up testing videos, and saw too many people cutting through the LiteLok with ease. definitely not worth the price, to have your lock busted within 20 seconds. watch out! for the record, i bought that *folding* Abus lock for my partner's bike, and it has held up for over a year, stored in a public place etc.
The Abus lock is one of the easier locks to cut through. You don’t cut through the steel you just insert the cheap bolt cutter in between the hinges and cuts it in less than 20 seconds.

@@thecyclingdane You used a screencap from LockPickingLawyer's video where he shows how you can easily cut through the wires with the tool shown. All these locks are garbage , I had 3 kryptonite locks and chain on my bike and they manage to grind right through them. what save my bike was the wheel disk lock which save my situation beside that i wont invest my money on any more locks
Well, pretty much every lock will fail the angle grinder test. If that is such a major issue for you then I suggest the Altor SAF. Maybe getting additional security like a bike alarm, GPS Tracker, Smartwater and registering it on some place like BikeRegister. There are ways to protect it other than a lock you know!
Uhm, something doesn't quite add up. If you had 3 kryptonite locks and a chain and someone wanted your damn bike bad enough to cut trough all of them, wouldn't fucking care about your stupid dsc lock. "I made all this effort to steal this bike and now there is that disc lock, that prevents the wheel from spinning. Oh, I guess I'm giving up!" Nope. He would have taken your bike, placed it inside his transporter with the other snitched bikes and be on his way. Even if this was a thief, that doesn't use transporters. If it was valuable enough, to cut trough 3 relatively heavy Locks, he would have fucking carried that thing trough the whole town if need be! I'm not really sure what you try to accomplish with this post, but I find your story EXTREMELY unlikely. Again: Your disc lock is WORTHLESS when someone is deterrent to take the bike. Which he fucking is, if he allready cut 3 locks.
The only thing you are realistically interested in is how resistant is that thing against physical attacks. LPL makes it look (very) easy. But it's not. Picking some of the better locks is very hard. The number of bike thiefs with THAT high skill level is: 0. I mean why would you even pick locks, when you can forcefully open most of them in seconds? 95% of bikes I encounter can be stolen within 3 Seconds with a fucking bolt cutter. Why would anyone in their right mind even start to think about picking a lock, when he could do it, noiseless, in 3 Seconds? And those locks, that are strong enough to withstand bolt cutters and will need angle grinders. They have cores that are good enough, that no common street scum could ever pick them. Especially not in real life Scenarios. One of the reasons why lock picking looks easy on LPL is because he is doing it on his desk, which is a way easier location, then in the night, upside down somewhere in the open. Since lock picking is either impossible, or at least extremely hard for a thief in real life scenarios, it's the Angle grinder 10/10.
This is a stupid top 5. The lockpicking lawyer uses a chain lock with his bike but there's not one chain lock in this top 5. It means this youtuber is clueless.
