A lot of people act like the Mega Man here is Blues, and not Rock (possibly drunk on Protomen), but the more canonesque (The Megas aren’t as big on departure)- Wily’s being extra and dramatic about the Robot Masters’ “deaths” and also anthropomorphizing the stage enemies who I think some people go with them being controlled as an extension of the Robot Masters, or else their AI is probably more simplistic- maybe Wily’s not so far gone as to anthropomorphize things on level with a roomba, but there’s plenty of room between “completely inert” and “yeah that’s a person”, and people sometimes refer to their pets as their “children”. The reason Rock is seemingly okay and like that is because we’re seeing things from Wily’s skewed perspective, and also because the Robot Masters in the first game didn’t die- being made by Dr. Light, they were just repaired; Rock assumed that the Get Equipped Robot Masters would also be repaired, but because Wily made them, Light either couldn’t, or refused to do so. That’s why Rock was traumatized after Get Equipped, but not Megatainment; he didn’t understand “death” until he asked about how the repairs were coming, and found out that they weren’t. (Also Rock was made to be a lab assistant, maybe Light gave him the ability to physically emote enough to be cute, but there wasn’t a perceived need for adding all the little parts to physically express sorrow as opposed to a cute “oops!” that would only come into play in nonserious incidents- because if there was any actual danger or immediate problems, solving that would take priority over showing emotions, so Rock might be physically incapable of expressing his negative emotions via facial expressions, and does something like, but not quite, dissociation during Mega Man stuff- he can feel bad emotionally, and break down about it later, but his processing is mainly focusing on defeating Wily and such.
He doesn't even have a realistic view of his relationship with the Robot Masters themselves. See "Programmed to Fight" for how much he actually cares about them.

I just replayed Mega Man 1-4 on a portable device this summer, and I'd forgotten that the original game's later Wily levels have the most insufferable, grating music. It never occurred to me that an actual guitar riff could turn it into something this awesome, but this is the third time I've listened to this track since discovering The Megas last weekend, and it's like THIS what that theme was always destined to be. PLEASE keep going until you've worked out a musical timeline that incorporates the Game Boy themes!
One fan theory I heard is that the Mega Man described in this song isn't actually the same Mega Man in Get Equipped: it's actually _Proto Man._ While Mega Man in Get Equipped was clearly remorseful over having to kill other robots, here he's clearly not shown to hold the same qualms. It would also explain really well exactly _why_ Proto Man is so pissed off at Dr. Light: not just about being replaced by Rock/MegaMan, but about having to see his younger brother become synonymous with the same name and deeds that Blues accomplished as the first Mega Man. This ties back to the arc words of the Megas' entire Mega Man discography: "to be the One." While this has a number of different meanings, in its original context it clearly refers to being the hero of humankind. Proto Man sings in "Melody from the Past" that _he_ wants to be "the One", but has finally come to accept that it's Rock's place to be not just Dr. Light's son, but to be the hero that the world needs.
I know, but I highly doubt the shiny red on Protoman is rust. And if it was, Dr. Wily would've cleaned him up. If he was gonna go through the trouble of replacing his energy core and bringing him back online, I'm sure he'd want to get rid of the rust that would hinder him in combat. Plus, Get Equipped was being recorded as early as 2006, just before Power Up first came out. Blues has always just been a music reference. And of course they'd have the same face if they were both modeled after Dr Light. As much as I think it's a cool theory, I think it's mostly grounded on coincidences
My favorite version of Protoman's back story is from the Archie Comics. But my favorite interpretation of Protoman during the events of Megaman 3 is the Megas' version. But that's probably because History Repeating Red is supposed to be more conclusive and final, while the Archie Comics got cut off and cancelled after building up to Megaman 4 for the entire length of the series
Publish it, bro. They supported the hell out of that short story based on the Quick and the Blue. It's free and all, but they did promete it and support it a lot. They're even selling a print copy on their story (I'd suppose with the writer's cooperation and getting at least a part of the money, if not all) Send it their way and they will point us all to read it on facebook or something.
Megaman really seems no different than Copy X in this album. Treating his own kind with a cold heart as he slaughters hundreds of them without hesitation, all in the name of protecting humanity. It's pretty compelling indeed to see the perspective flipped to the other side... Kinda want to see a MMZ album now that I think about it.
Tbf, there was no complex ai in the stage enemies, so it’s more like destroying a forest or factory farming, and the Robot Masters from the first game aren’t really killed like the ones from Get Equipped were, being originally made by Dr. Light; that’s why Rock is in shock over Get Equipped- he assumed that the Robot Masters would get rebuilt, but they were Wily’s so they didn’t.
I mean... They never really left. It's only been 2 and a half years since History Repeating Red, and there was a 5 year gap between Get Equipped and History Repeating Blue. Plus they released The Belmonts about 2 months ago
(Probably) Good news. I don't know if you two follow them on Facebook, but apparently there'll be a Halloween special. :3 I think Mega Man 4 is coming, since there's a picture of a pumpkin with Skull Man's face.
Storyline-wise, Mega Man "died" (it's never been confirmed, but it's safe to say he died) before the events of Mega Man X. Speaking of X, can someone *P L E A S E* explain to me why so many people think Mega Man and X are the same guy?
Quint's an oddball. He is Mega Man from the future, you're correct on that one. Future Mega Man was reprogrammed by Wily to become Quint, who used a time machine to both get to Quint and bring him back to fight Mega Man. Just because of Wily doing that, Quint technically can't exist after being defeated. Mega Man would remember that entire exchange, therefore completely shutting Wily down if he tries it again. What I mean when I bring up the Mega Man X games is different. The X series takes place in 21XX. By this point, Bass, Proto Man and the original Mega Man have all either dropped off the face of the planet or got themselves killed somehow. My headcanon is that Wily, at some point, sets Zero on Mega Man. They fight and Mega Man gets killed (this is after Light seals up X.) Bass gets pissed about not being able to defeat Mega Man himself, and replaced by Wily creating Zero. Bass and Zero fight and Bass gets his ass kicked to hell and back. This is where WIly locks up Zero; he's too powerful. Proto Man just does his usual thing and stays the absolute fuck out of dodge during this whole thing. Eventually, before the X series starts, Light and Wily die of old age. Proto Man's flawed energy core finally kills him. Then the Mega Man X shit starts.
SMM9673 Here's what I imagine; In future, Wily has given up evil(either out of guilt or depression) and is put under house arrest, guarded by the repurposed Bass and Treble. Blues dies from his faulty power core. Albert(past Wily) shows up, restores Bass and Treble to normal, and convinces his future self to take up evil again. The two build 8 new robot masters. Mega Man goes after them. After defeating the 8 robot masters, Mega Man is forced to fight Bass to the death. Both use the super adapter, but Mega Man barely wins. This battle costs the lives of Bass, Treble, AND Rush. Mega Man takes down a new Wily Machine, manned by the two Wilyies. However, Wily unleashes an incomplete version of Zero on Mega Man. Mega Man is quickly defeated. Albert tells Zero to stand down, but the Maverick doesn't listen. Wily shuts Zero down with a manual override, as he knows what his past self is planning, even if he is too old to remember it happening to him. Albert turns Mega Man into Quint and returns to the past. Wily continues to work on Zero until he passes away from natural causes. Dr. Light, never to see his son again, colors X's armor blue in Mega Man's honor, as well as giving X the alternate name of 'Mega Man X.' In the past, Quint fights Rock and reveals himself to be Rock's future self. However, Quint never explains how he came to be captured, repurposed, and sent to the past. Quint is later killed by Rock.
SMM My headcanon is that since quint didn’t want to die he time warps the future of X and lives there as a background character not causing trouble just observing.
So are you guys ever doing something related to the two missing robot masters from the first game? This EP is some of my favorite stuff you've produced.
Maybe in The Megas' continuity, Cut Man and Guts Man are kept back by Wily because he sees Mega Man defeating everyone else, and so decides he'll get them to ambush him when he arrives to fight Wily. The part of the song with the Wily Boss theme that sounds like the robots talking to Mega Man could be Cut Man and Guts Man, both horrified at having to face such a powerful foe who's already slain their brothers. In that section, Wily sounds particularly terrified by Mega Man, as if he's personally witnessing Mega Man tear Cut Man and Guts Man, his "children", apart. I'm sorry, did that get too dark? Here, have a free hug. *hugg*
@@hostiusasinhostilityhostil7853 I always thought it would make sense if some of the robot masters escaped or got teleported away before they could be killed. Like either heat man or cold man man escaped and went to help the other one fight mega man. Cut man and guts man would stay at wily’s castle because heat or cold man left and already got killed, and fought mega man when he attacked the castle. That could explain why they didn’t get their own songs.

The song to me is Willy's hypocrisy. He you sent one of them while you cower far form harm? He's the one who cowering sending lights sons to murder him.
Great song. Dr Wily was always right and it's nice to see a song about it. I don't know why more people aren't critical of Dr Light who is essentially a crazed loner lunatic who knew making sapient robots would end mankind and did it anyway because he wanted forever-kid robots to gawk at like the antisocial creep he is. Machines were meant to serve, and pretending they can feel because you programmed them to pretend to feel, is insane.
It's funny you say that in this timeline, where Wily decided to rebel against humanity with the desire of having the bots live not as humanity's servants, but as their Robot Masters. If anybody is a robot creep there it's mostly Wily. Light just decided to build his kids when he couldn't have biological ones, but other than that he is mainly pro humanity in this conflict, and the people praise him because of that.

Like either heat man or cold man man escaped and went to help the other one fight mega man. Cut man and guts man would stay at wily’s castle because heat or cold man left and already got killed, and fought mega man when he attacked the castle. That could explain why they didn’t get their own songs.

I love you guys and your music. Keep going strong!
If this was in a CD format I'd definitely buy it.

Tried to share this and accidentally hit the dislike button. Never have I been so close to having a heart attack.
"Machine" is a color?
I think everyone will have their own version of the colour that "machine" could be. I actually like that line a lot, it stimulates the imagination.
Blackened machine not black and machine

"What colors they gleam"
"Blue, blackened machine"
So they're saying they're bruised? But still gleaming?
I mean. Technically it is.
This is underrated as fuck
Look What You've Done/Dr. Wily
LYRICS
I hope history is kind to us all
I know they'll blame me for the fall
I only wish there's a better way out
But there's no better way out
This is the end
You've started the fall
Can't see the destiny
That we once saw
On the edge of dawn
What have you done
One night it was clear. What colors you gleam
These things I was building. Blue, black and Machine
Were not meant to serve. Perfection in steel
They were meant to conquer. A glorious future revealed
This is the end
You've started the fall
Can't see the destiny
That we once saw
On the edge of dawn
What have you done
Their eyes were opened easily. Rise up now my sons
It was like flipping a switch. There is much to be done
They were more than happy to join me. This is the final stage
Because, they believe. Lead us into a new age
This is the end
You've started the fall
Can't see the destiny
That we once saw
On the edge of dawn
What have you done
And who is this you send?
One of them?
While you cower far from harm
He'll just disappoint you
Now it's done
We're divided
Call him home
This one's misguided
I see his hands
(The robots are stronger than man)
Covered in my children's blood
(I will not let victory fall through my hands)
And his eyes do not waver
Call me wrong?
The future needs us
Your answer's death?
You end us, bleed us
And how quick you had him dispatch his brothers
(I've made a promise to them)
You call this murderer a savior
(They will not let victory fall through my hands)
Can you not feel
That we could have a life forged in steel
I only ask that you see what I see
This is the answer
Why won't you believe?
This is the end
My friend, you've started the fall
Can't see the destiny
That we once saw
On the edge of dawn
What have you...
I can see the headlines now:
"Megaman has ended the evil domination of Dr. Wily
And restored the world to peace
However, the never ending battle continues
Until all destructive forces are defeated
Fight Megaman
For everlasting peace"
This is the end, my friend
This is the end, but I'll be back again
When the time is right...
Dr. Light
I return to help burn
Your people's future down
You destroyed my children
You forced my retribution
The battle is ending
True war is just beginning
I'll learn from this disaster
I'll build eight robot masters...
Tell me you guys are coming back soon yeah?
The song to me is Willy's hypocrisy. He you sent one of them while you cower far form harm? He's the one who cowering sending lights sons to murder him.
Great song. Dr Wily was always right and it's nice to see a song about it. I don't know why more people aren't critical of Dr Light who is essentially a crazed loner lunatic who knew making sapient robots would end mankind and did it anyway because he wanted forever-kid robots to gawk at like the antisocial creep he is. Machines were meant to serve, and pretending they can feel because you programmed them to pretend to feel, is insane.
Well that’s a weird ass fucking headcanon if I’ve ever seen one.

Oof
It's funny you say that in this timeline, where Wily decided to rebel against humanity with the desire of having the bots live not as humanity's servants, but as their Robot Masters.
If anybody is a robot creep there it's mostly Wily. Light just decided to build his kids when he couldn't have biological ones, but other than that he is mainly pro humanity in this conflict, and the people praise him because of that.
