I do a lot of thinking about why MAGA voters are so intractable in their support of Trump and the crass, self-interested behavior of the Republican leadership. I think part of it stems from the us-vs-them mentality of modern team sports, which has permeated politics since at least the 1980s, and also partly stemming from a genuine mistrust that many Americans have felt towards their government since the Vietnam war, which was worsened by things like the invasion of Iraq on false pretenses and unconstitutional domestic surveillance programs following 9/11. Events like the raids in Waco and Ruby Ridge also played a role, particularly for conservative, white evangelicals.
The current plunge into madness, while fueld by the previously mentioned factors, has been vivified by the Republicans adopting an aggressive domestic propaganda campaign, created by groups like FOX News and legitimized by repetition by Republican politicians. Republicans have dominated the propaganda narrative. The government, under both parties, has totally failed to communicate a proper and ethical position on the civic duty of Americans, so the propaganda groups that pollute popular media have been able to spread their own corrupted version unopposed.
It certainly isn't too late to turn this around, but it will take tremendous effort and likely more than a single generation to do it. It may take 40 years (Biblical reference for those so inclined) to achieve a return to normally. My hope is that the events and conflicts of the world today don't prevent us from succeeding in our correction.

Texas (or any other state) are NOT in charge of the borders. That is a national issue, not a state issue. But I agree with you about leaving pregnant women alone.

Exactly. They tell voters that government doesn't work and everything should be privatized (so some millionaire can become a billionaire), then they get in office and do everything to make sure government doesn't actually do any work to try and justify their claims.
