It's funny how you talk about getting shanked in Riften, even though the thieves guild doesn't kill people, but then talk about how good Markarth is, even though it has the Forsworn, cannibals, and slavery.

    • @samthedystopianrat1945
      @samthedystopianrat1945 2 роки тому +72

Riften is my favourite city, so I'm there a lot, and tbh sometimes a thief will literally just run from the back entrance to the city and try and kill me, so ig he's not wrong about getting shanked. But, yeah, Markarth is probably worse.

    • @chadnorris8257

@@samthedystopianrat1945 Oddly enough there are thieves on the road who will try to kill you if you don't give them money, but can be told off if you're wearing the guildmaster's armor, so they are supposed to be part of the guild. So some members do kill people. But since it's a joinable faction, and they tend to use shadow marks to tell thieves to stay away from dangerous people or places, I'd still feel safer in Riften than Markarth.

I'll never forget my first playthrough. I had one goal: join the Legion. Ulfric seemed like a schmuck, so I was gonna go with my boi Hadvar and take the fight to the rebels. I didn't know about the carriages, so all I had to guide me was a map marker that said "if you wanna join the Legion, get to Solitude." And while I learned the controls of the game and got immersed into the world bit by bit, it was all in service of the overall goal: Solitude. And then I finally arrived. Whiterun and Morthal were the only cities I had seen so far, and they were cool, but nothing held a candle to that first time visiting the capital. It was the perfect reward at the end of a long and difficult quest. Solitude will always be my number 1 location in the game.

Let me share you my experiences of each city:
-Falkreath: i pass by it, dont do much here, but, every time i come back, its always a dragon attack.
-Morthal: Vampire attack every single time, slaughtering everybody.
-Dawnstar: Pretty chill for now, dont make much trips there.
-Winterhold: Bandit attack every time, slaughtering every civilian and guard.
-Windhelm: Racism, nothing more to it.
-Riften: shithole, tievery, corruption, draugr invasions.
-Solitude: gosh, stormcloaks, dragons, thieves, always at the gate.
-Markarth, cannibalistic mountain goat farmer forsword attacks are quite common, P.S a secret locations at the little stream coming down.
-Whiterun: holy grounds, your true home, the place where you learn how to play and behave, 10/10.
    HONORABLE MENTIONS:
-Ravenrock: i spend a lot of time on solstheim, i like the island.
    -Riverwood, never forget you riverwood.

I have a soft spot for Morthol. It has my favorite Jarl, one of the best magic suppliers in Skyrim, and easily the best homestead in the game with the fishery.
I generally don't spend much time in Dawnstar, and I tend to find the place kind of depressing, perhaps even more than Winterhold. The wilderness outside of it can be really nice though with the dense snow covered forests.

I think people like Whiterun mostly because of familiarity. But think about it, like, if you were there. The houses are kind of... shacks. You can see the sky through the roof, and a lot of them are pretty small. The space is use very inefficiently, and being on top of a tall hill in what's otherwise a plain means it'd be really windy. I think it wouldn't be very good to be in if you actually went there. Also the whole area around the city is empty fields. Good if you're a horse breeder or you have cattle I guess.

@@Altrantis being around fields is a plus. That means you have access to farms and food. Most medieval cities irl were surrounded by fields and farms. Maybe I haven't used Solitude enough to figure it out, but I don't think there are enough merchants for me to sell off my haul before venturing out again. I put Whiterun at the top because I think it has the most merchants. No matter what time i get there the Drunken Huntsman is open and he buys what I sell most (weapons and armor). If I land at the right time of day, I have 5 places where I can unload that stuff. I always get Breezehome so if I get there during off hours, I can temp store my loot for a better time. AND most of it is close together because Whiterun is kind of small... If I have a really large load of loot, I have to make the long trip up to the sky forge, but usually it isn't necessary. If you do the Thieves Guild thing all the way through, then Riftin is probably the best place for selling stuff, but it's Riftin the only good thing about that place is Mjoll.
