- Welcome to my UA-cam channel! In this video, we will be focusing on trimming lids to fit onto a pot with a gallery. A gallery is a opening on the top of a pot that is used to hold a lid in place. Trimming the lid to fit the gallery can be a bit of a challenge, but with the right tools and techniques, it is definitely doable. We will start by preparing the clay for the lid and centering it on the pottery wheel. From there, we will use our hands and a variety of tools to shape and smooth the lid. I will also demonstrate how to trim the excess clay from the rim of the lid and how to fit it onto the pot with the gallery. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced potter, I hope this video will be helpful for you. Thank you for watching and happy creating!

Wish I'd discovered your videos sooner. So detailed on the throwing and trimming! Everyone else is into kiln openings. Thanks for being so generous with your time.
As someone who struggles with lidded forms, lids, and the knobs attached to lids, this is great information. Your generosity in sharing this demo is very much appreciated.

You are welcome. Hope you have a great day making pottery.
How do you make sure, when you are trimming the bottom of the lid with the knob, that you don't make the walls too thin, or break through the lid wall into the dip/bowl shape in the top of the lid?
I make the lid a little thick and try to remember the inside curve of the lid and trim it to match
Green tiles - what make are they?
They are batts for the wheel. Here is a link for them
