A great video. Certainly the best explaination / instruction I have seen for the spiral wedging process. Thanks for sharing. Love the different camera views.
You are the best instructor I have ever watched. Thank you😊
This is such a thorough explanation of wedging! Love the cutting in half to show how the clay spirals around, and I love your impression of 'the creature' :p
Why did your ear blur at 10:48?
Good teach sir. Thank you
Thank you.
Thanks. This was a great video!
A lot of restaurants serve the main meals in a bowl like this
I have been watching these clips. They are great. ❤
Just got my first wheel!! I’m 48 and finally get to play with clay! This is a super helpful video ❤
You are an amazing teacher! Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise
Thank you
How do you wash your towels, tools and aprons? 😊😊😊
@@judgetoogood1033 I wash them by hand in a bucket and let them air dry. I can get them pretty clean that way.
John, could you do a video on tools that you like too use. Where and what brands are best. U do want too waste my money. Thank you…. ❤❤❤
@judgetoogood1033 sure that is a good idea. I have a ton of tools but definitely have a few that I use all the time.
Please explain more in depth, that the bowl or edge gets soft. What is too soft?
@judgetoogood1033 sometimes the rim gets too soft because I is thin and exposed to water for a long time. This usually is not a big deal but you may need to cut it off to get to stiffer clay so you can finish the rim properly.
How can you tell how many times can you move it up? What is the average times you can move it up, 3 or 4? What happens if you move it up too many times? Thanks…. 😊😊😊
What do you do with the Clay that you slip off? Thanks….❤❤❤
How do you clean your apron. Do you hand wash due to the hardened Cala? Thank you. ❤❤❤
Love your apron. Is it Denim, Cotton or leather. Who makes it and model number. Thank you. ❤❤❤
@@judgetoogood1033 I use a cotton apron, I think it is really a wood shop apron. I love it. Here is a link to the one I have. Shop Apron - Heavy Duty Waxed... www.amazon.com/dp/B07TLZ7X3Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@JohnHasegawaCeramics Thank you for your rmemply. The apron is unavailable currently. I have placed it on my wish list. Take Care….❤️❤️❤️
What brand apron do you recommend and where can I buy it. Thanks…. ❤❤❤❤
What if you’re in a wheelchair? 😂😂😂
Thank you. 😊😊😊
Amazing tutorial, I had never made a jar with a gallery lid and today I got it on the first try following your instructions
Thank you😊😊😊
great video! ... and thank you for the sub. i will sub to you as well
Thank you😊😊😊😊
For those of us who don't have calipers, you also use a ruler to show us how to measure.
@lindaleary9913 yes, when I can not find my calipers I have use a ruler or just folded a piece of paper to the correct length. Use whatever you can find to get the job done. Good suggestion.
Thank you
@@judgetoogood1033 you are welcome 😊
Thank you for an informative and entertaining video.
Sponge the water out of the pot?
Yes, I always sponge out the water. Very carefully
Thank you for sharing !
Hi John, you are a great teacher. Thank you so much to show how to do the spiral wedging.
Thank you sir!
Hello John I love your instructions- best I have found for solving all those little issues that other potters forget to tell a learner potters. I also like that you are left handed- much easier for me to understand how you are doing something without contorting myself around to mirror image the hand postions etc and take into account the way the wheel is spinning as I was taught to throw right handed and not until I got into very detailed trimming did I strike problems. Tried to reverse wheel but oh what a mess 😂 Thanks again John, you’re a great teacher! BTW - is your mum the hilarious potter on Instagram - you both have similar expressions 😂
You are an awesome teacher! I've been binging your videos and you've been giving so many great technical explanations on things I've been struggling with. Thank you!!
I am so glad I caught this video because I'm getting ready to throw my first 10lbs bowl. Thank you so much!
My husband always tells me, "You're failing your way to success." Thanks, John!
Thank you, your video was really helpful and your joy working with clay is contagious!
Can you tell us in Grams how much clay you are using. Per item. 1pound =400grams
I started with a 10 lbs of clay or 4530 grams of clay. Have fun making big bowls.
Great video, I will try both of these techniques tonight 😁
Great! Tell me how it goes.
hey teach, another great video!
Thank you!! I am glad that you enjoyed them.
Great demo!
Very nice job teaching. Very enjoyable teaching style.
Thank you.
26:40 John, I'm right there with you on that. Glazing is a chore done with the same enthusiasm as cleaning up the kitchen after a big meal you really enjoyed.
Love these tutorials!!!!!
Glad you like them!
Thanks so much for this excellent, detailed instructional video. My mugs just got a lot better after watching it twice. Appreciate you!
Everyone seems to prefer the ram's head method. Have you ever thought about using wild clays? I've always believed the best way to understand something was to make it from the foundation up.
I have always wanted to work with wild clay but never tried. Sounds like fun.
What about big pieces that had fallen apart?
I've watched this video a few times. I do love texture on a pot. Recently my instructor has been teaching hybrid pots. She throws a base on the wheel, either flat disk or slight bowl shape. Then she rolls a long narrow strip out on the slab roller and adds texture using a roller to the slab. Then she attaches the slab to the thrown base while still on the wheel, giving it textured walls. From there, she gives it her preferred shape and lip. I have done a few of these but find the attachment really difficult at the base and also the side seam. I'm wondering if you would consider doing a video on this? I'd love to hear your comments and instruction on something hybrid.
Wow that does sound like a fun project. I have only built a few hybrid pots and found it to be not really my cup of tea, but I am thinking about it now.
