As a ASRock Steel Legend WiFi B650E owner, I approve this message. It really is a fantastic board and I have absolutely ZERO reasons to upgrade to an X870E motherboard.
asrock is the only brand out of all these that was created specifically to manufacture motherboards. this means that if there are issues with their bios or software they're more likely to fix it quickly than brands like gigabyte that sell all kinds of products (I know asrock sells other products now too but they started as a motherboard company). i've seen so many people having issues with motherboards on reddit and asrock just seemed to be the most reliable brand on the software and stability side from what i learned

@@hooroos0027you have no idea what you’re talking about. it’s much harder to maintain quality control if a single brand manufactures many different products, even if they have different divisions. just look at SK Hynix, they recently started a separate company (Klevv) with the specific goal to keep high quality control for their RAM. you simply couldn’t have been more wrong buddy
Been using asrock in multiple builds now. Always great in value and had no issues at all. They will continue to be my #1 recommendation because it just works well. No drama or issues have come out of them as long as I remember
I think their graph chart showing thermals wasn't quite what it should've shown. It should've been like... here's performance top-down, and then in red the temperatures. Since some boards performed mostly fine even when ridiculously hot. Idk about this tier list video, I think without knowing performance difference a tier list isn't to be taken seriously. You can't trust a board on features alone.

I’m from the EU, and I got the B650 Steel Legend over a month ago. It’s almost flawless-good connectivity, very stable, plenty of power for the CPU, and an awesome white look. The only minor issue I have is the crappy ASRock RGB software, but that’s about it. If you can get your hands on it, it’s a no-brainer.
I agree with you about the AliExpress motherboards because, in addition to my main PC that uses an ASRock X570 Pro4, I have a secondary PC that uses a Soyo B550M Monarch Dragon and a video editing PC that uses a Soyo B450M Classic. They work just fine.
@@Kkkkkk13456 Yeah, it's a pretty good board but the Soyo B550 Monarch Dragon costs less than $100CAD which makes it the better buy. I actually bought that exact same board from Canada Computers for $120CAD but then I saw the Soyo B450M Classic was $65CAD, I returned the B450M D3SH and bought TWO Soyo B450M Classics for about the same price. They work just fine and I actually used one in a build for my uncle.

Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 definitely A tier for its price/performance . It can even handle RAM tweaking/OCs just fine like those high priced mobos bcoz of dual channel memory layout. Im running 2x16gb ddr5 6000 cl30 kingston kit at 6400mts @cl 30 vsoc 1.295v . In my region i picked it up for 118$ few weeks back XD And reg the VRMs, the Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 has DrMosfets that are way efficient than those discrete mosfets. The msi pro b650s wifi has 12+2 power phase are not DrMosfets . Those are Doubled discrete mosfets which are not good compared to those DrMosfets that i mentioned earlier. Even the Msi b650 pro m-a has 55A power stages like Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 (50A). so ya MSI b650pro m-a goes a tier above the pro b650 m-s. Asrock b650 live mixer S tier for its price/features only drawback is its availability worldwide so the Asrock b6560m pg riptide is definitely A+ tier along with b650 pg lightning So Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 is A tier (extra point bcoz of amazing memory performance) Gigabyte b650 aorus series recent revisions has been reduced their pcb layers from 8 to 6 and low loss to mid loss pcbs . So ya they are not good as asrock series boards. Earlier revisions ya A+ tier but later revisions B+ tier .Msi b650 project zero has 10+2 DrMosfets unlike b650m gaming plus fake 10+2 discrete mosfets. They are not even close . its definitely B+ tier bcoz of its price Gigabyte b650 gaming x has 8+2 Dr mosfets it's B tier (bcoz of its Price) Again gigabyte b650 eagle ax and msi b650m -p wifi has descrete mosfets (B tier bcoz of features) Msi b650m pro -a is B tier Msi b650 pro -s is C tier
in Belgium, the Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 cost 127 euros or 140 usd, but i'm So going for this one. Here, the prices of equivalent motherboards is around 150 euros or more... So this video and your comment are very helpful, thanks !
This came in at the perfect time. Just last night I was going through motherboards & eventually drove myself crazy! I want an ATX motherboard that has modern PCIe gen 4 or 5 (not sure how much of a difference it'll make), same with NVMe slots, works out of the box and doesn't break the bank. There's so many that I eventually gave up trying. And do people still care about having 2 x separate NVMe drives, 1 for OS & 1 for games? I thought I had it figured out, but then I kept finding new info, like certain NVMe's have their own cache & people prefer those for OS. So I gave up. Glad this video can finally help clear things up!
i wish mainboard manufacturers would produce more mainboards with bluetooth (i know that mainboards with bluetooth have both bluetooth and wifi… there are just way more without them!)
You're my #1 source of pc info. Just built a pc about two weeks with the 7600x3d and 7900 gre and couldn't be happier, it's a beast! Thanks for all the help goat
Cheers, nice vid. What are those ASRock haters gonna say now: look at the top 5 boards: all ASRocks! Best overall board price to performance imho: the HDV/M.2. Cheap as chips and will run any 7000 and 9000 CPU's.
The Steel Legend of Asrock are the best. I still have my Asrock B450M Steel Legend and its still works like new. This board is insane value at the time. I would love to get another Steel Legend from Asrock when I get my Ryzen 5 7500F. Unfortunately no Asrock Board exists in my County(South Africa). The 300-400-500 series boards did exist, but not 600 series boards. Asrock please, come to South Africa. I would buy 10 boards since its such good value for money. The only boards we have are Gigabyte and Asus.
I LOVE these lists! Only request is that you try to do a little bit more ITX parts because it's really a growing segment and a lot of us are having a lot of issues finding info on ITX builds. Nice job!
Thanks for making this, helped a lot on narrowing down my decision on which motherboard to go for. Building my new pc after years of putting it off. Excited!
VERY IMPORTANT!!!! One thing I'd like to mention regarding the Asrock LiveMixer vs PG Lightning debate is that the LiveMixer has only 2 SATA3 slots, which makes it a much worse candidate for most people, including myself, as I have more than 2 hard drives that use SATA3. The only thing holding me from getting the PG Lightning is its lack of native wifi, cause for like 20€ more I could get a motherboard with the same VRM and wifi included.
Thank you for all of the info! 👍 Unfortunately i dont have much of options here... I like Tomahawk myself but not available anywhere in my country. Asrock and gigabyte as well... The only ones that's available are Asus brand, either ROG that expensive or TUF 🤷

Got my b650 Aorus elite AX for $90. At Microcenter in may of 2023. Everyone was panicking about the 7000 ryzens frying the motherboard because of the excessive SOC voltages. Mass returned b650 motherboards and Microcenter had so many that they pushed the price down to get rid of them. The thing was basically brand new and was like $230 at the time, got some decent 32GB ram for only $50 open box as well. Very happy with the upgrade and no issues whatsoever
Misinformation. VRM phase count does not matter. A strong 4 phase VRM can be better than a bad 6 phase VRM. If you keep saying the number, people will think bigger number is better. It's misleading. You have to go by actual tests when you want to know how good the VRM are. There is no way around it. For example the Gaming X has better VRM than the Eagle AX, even though it's 8 instead of 12 phases. HDV over Lightning Wifi? I'd take the Lightning Wifi over the HDV any day of the week. You get Wifi+BT and RGB headers. The HDV lacks those. The stronger VRM don't really make a difference as both are good enough (even for a Ryzen 9). Putting the Pro RS Wifi one tier below the MSI B650-S Wifi? Why? The Pro RS has one more M.2 slot and Gen 5 on the SSD. I'd take the Pro RS over the MSI, unless you need the additional fast USB ports in the rear for lots of external storage or something like that. Why put the Lightning above the Livemixer? The Lightning lacks some of the M.2 heatsinks and has a worse USB, PCIe and M.2 configuration. It's clearly slightly worse. Eagle AX below B650-S Wifi? I'd rather take the additional M.2 slot than the faster USB ports and 2.5G LAN of the MSI. Unless you're running tons of external storage, you won't need 4+ Gen 3 USB ports. Same with the LAN port, but you can always need an extra M.2 SSD imo when upgrading SSDs so you don't have to remove them but can keep using them. Why did you put the Gaming X below the Eagle? The Gaming X is better than the Eagle AX. Better VRM, more heatsinks, faster USB ports and LAN. But you put it 2 tiers lower. Sorry, I am not going to finish the video. This is just not a good tier list
Yes, the video is somewhat basic, the way I see he scored was top ranking for most amount of vrm listed for the price, with some featured getting brownie points like pcie 5.0 slots, and bigger heatsinks, but if you based it actually on hardware unboxed backside vrm temps it would have been better than just based on number of vrms, cause now manufacturers will just stick on more cheaper quality vrms if they they think they will score higher on this arbitrary tier list
I agree with some of your points but I also disagree with some of your other points as well. I'll also state the point I have mixed opinions with as an add-on. The points that I agree with: 1. The Gaming X having better VRM than the Eagle AX. 2. You disagree with putting the Pro RS Wifi one tier below the MSI B650-S WiFi. 3. You disagree with the Eagle AX being below B650-S WiFi. 4. You disagree with the Gaming X being below the Eagle AX. The points that I disagree with: 1. You think a strong 4 phase VRM can be better than a bad 6 phase VRM. They are both really bad no matter what. There's no point in arguing which one is better in that case. 2. You think the Lightning Wifi is better than the HDV. Saying the Lightning Wifi can handle a Ryzen 9 is a stretch. A Ryzen 9 CPU runs cooler and faster with the HDV compared to the Lightning Wifi. Besides, the included Wifi+BT module on cheaper motherboards are often inferior to aftermarket Wifi+BT adapters. The point that I have mixed opinions with: 1. You disagree with the Lightning being above the Livemixer. This one really depends on price and personal preferences and can go either way. Hardware Unboxed even recommended both of them in their "Zen 5 Ready AMD B650 Buying Guide, Top 5 Best B650 Boards" video.
@@hy2024-e1g You cannot "disagree" about that. What I said is objectively true. 1. Proven in the past (eg B450 Tomahawk) and they can be good (4 good phases can handle up to like 200W). Actually, the Gaming X vs Eagle is 8 vs 12 phases, which is the same as 2x 4 vs 2x 6 and also proves 4 can be better than 6. 2. It just can. What can I say, other than point to the objective VRM tests proving it. It won't run faster. The ones included work just as well (edit: i meant Wifi here). It does not matter whether they are "inferior" in some abstract way. 3. HUB is not perfect at making board ranking lists. They focus a lot on VRMs and spend little time on the actual features. In their video they for example seemingly mess up the whole USB config, as they put all internal and rear IO USB ports in one bucket. Or they ignore whether an M.2 slot is Gen 3 x2 or Gen 4 x4, which is of course a huge difference. The Livemixer is a higher end model. It just is, and you can see that if you actually look at the features.
Glad I bought the B650 Livemixer, I'm pairing it with 9600X and 7800XT and I'm building that PC for the first time this Sunday while following your guide man! 😁
MSI Tomahawk owner here - Compared to the Asrock S tier boards, the MSI Tom has better audio and more USB ports. You criticise it for only having a PCI 4.0 slot, when there are zero PCI 5.0 cards yet. I'll stick with mine thanks.
@@ScatterVolt audio does not really matter, if u use som top end studio speakers with an integrated audio solution u will actually have a very bad experience, every time u move the mouse or the gpu is in use in a game u will hear it through the speakers. Integrated audio is really bad. but yeah msi tomahawk is only 6layer mobo while the top end asrock here are 8layers which naturally is what u want to have for less interference and more stable system.
"You're welcome" - that was the most effective "please click the like button" I have ever come across. And now a 7+ word comment and sub as well. I appreciate the non-hard sell lol.
Instantly skips to end and sees “so I see you skipped to the end” damn. He got me. I wanted to get the steel legend but it was sold out so I got the gaming X Ax instead and honestly it does everything that I need. Can’t complain
Taichi really changed my mind from buying x870/e line, my only reason for considering 870 was because of usb 4. B650e taichi check all the box while having more premium feature/build(except wifi 7) compared to 870 boards at the same price range.
You missed what is probably ASUS's best b650 board here - the ProArt Creator. It's the _only_ b650 board that can run two GPUs both at x8, and has a 3rd slot too (although that shares lanes with one of the m.2 slots). Currently less than $200 at Microcenter. For anyone running VMs with a GPU passthrough two x8 slots are really useful.
I got the Gigabyte B650 Eagle Ax, it was the best option for me and it was cheaper than some of the lower tiers in this list. This video was helpful picking out an motherboard, really happy with my choice.
Really great, amazingly in-depth analysis, a big help, thanks. But why do you not ever mention the number of PCIe extension slots? I would certainly want to know if having more slots might cause bottlenecks if there are not enough PCI lanes. Strange that this is never mentioned in any of the similar videos that I have seen on the subject.
I got the Strix B650E-F for my bro off ebay open box. It had no issues but some minor cosmetic wear. It was probably returned instantly and the guy got it off an amazon return auction and sold it forward. This was 2 years ago and it was essentially $200 USD before taxes. Great buy as I got him a quality board for essentially the price of the budget ones. Also got him a 7700x instead of a 7600x because the day I came home with the 7600x from Best Buy I see newegg had the 7700x on sale on ebay only for the same price. That was a quick buy and return.
One aspect what is not mentioned, that all Gigabyte and most ASRock boards can read XMP profile as well. Which means you can take advantage of a good deal on an XMP kit, if the opportunity arises.
People crap on the ASUS B650M-A PRIME WIFI II all the time, but I have several builds with it combined with a monster 7950X/X3D and the VRMs run at a chilly 60C when overclocked after hours of stress test in a mini case with 3 silent fans. The non-II is the one with thermal issues.
That 60A, 80A etc. is actually PER phase. The phases are running at a less than 100% duty cycle for efficiency and thermal reasons (why m0ar phases = better all other things being equal). The socket is pulling around 200W/1.3V=153A total with say a 7950 or 9950x in it. Good list though. Sucks the asrock PG riptide is sold out.
Just rebuilt my pc last night with a 7800x3D on an ASRock B650E Steel Legend. I honestly didn't do too much research on it, but I saw the power phase and the Gen 5 PCIe/M.2 and picked it up for future-proofing (I was also already leaning towards ASRock based on general mobo recommendations). Seemed like a great deal for the price and it was available where I was going to get the 7800x3D. Glad I made a good choice!

After watching hardware unboxed’s video on b650 boards, I really wanted a simple yes or no type guide like this. Thank you scattervolt!!
@@ardeof Spot on! UA-cam is full of copy paste information disguised by either game clips or tier lists and then plastered with affiliate links in the description.
Yooo you’re the goat I was trying to choose one
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
What did you end up with?
Didnt see this vid until now, just ordered the Asrock B650m Pro RS WiFi for $140 after tax. Will be my first am5 build for 2025. Stoked to hear it’s decent! 🎉
This came in right on time. Just got in my 7500F and was overwhelmed looking at all thr Mobo options
What motherboard did you buy for your 7500f?
I’m from the EU, and I got the B650 Steel Legend over a month ago. It’s almost flawless-good connectivity, very stable, plenty of power for the CPU, and an awesome white look. The only minor issue I have is the crappy ASRock RGB software, but that’s about it. If you can get your hands on it, it’s a no-brainer.
You're lucky!
Been on a steel legend since 6 years with Ryzen 2700. Not a single problem yet.
❤Thanks!
Thank you!
I agree with you about the AliExpress motherboards because, in addition to my main PC that uses an ASRock X570 Pro4, I have a secondary PC that uses a Soyo B550M Monarch Dragon and a video editing PC that uses a Soyo B450M Classic.
They work just fine.
Agreed, they just need more mainstream coverage
Bro i bought a
New Gigabyte GA-B450M DS3H V2 For AMD AM4 Ryzen, from aliexpress and i have waited 3 weeks and it didn,t came yet, but is it good
@@Kkkkkk13456 Yeah, it's a pretty good board but the Soyo B550 Monarch Dragon costs less than $100CAD which makes it the better buy. I actually bought that exact same board from Canada Computers for $120CAD but then I saw the Soyo B450M Classic was $65CAD, I returned the B450M D3SH and bought TWO Soyo B450M Classics for about the same price. They work just fine and I actually used one in a build for my uncle.
Did a build with the Asrock B650E Steel Legend WiFi on a Ryzen 7500F and a RX6800. Running excellent
im building the same but with the 4070 Super when it gets discounted on Black friday

Asrock HDV/M.2 seems really good for budget am5 build. I'm gonna go with it with R5 7500F next time 😅
i got that with the rx 6700 xt

@@KiNGoNaTRoN ryzen 7 7700x 7800xt , 6000mhz cl34
7800x 3d here with that mobo. it runs perfectly
I got b650E taichi for 290 euro which was at the time 60-80 less euro than taichi lite!!
It's such a beast of a mobo and so beautiful
Great aesthetics as well on that mobo, is it EATX or ATX ?
Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 definitely A tier for its price/performance . It can even handle RAM tweaking/OCs just fine like those high priced mobos bcoz of dual channel memory layout. Im running 2x16gb ddr5 6000 cl30 kingston kit at 6400mts @cl 30 vsoc 1.295v . In my region i picked it up for 118$ few weeks back XD
And reg the VRMs, the Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 has DrMosfets that are way efficient than those discrete mosfets.
Asrock b650 live mixer S tier for its price/features only drawback is its availability worldwide
so the Asrock b6560m pg riptide is definitely A+ tier along with b650 pg lightning
So Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 is A tier (extra point bcoz of amazing memory performance)
Gigabyte b650 aorus series recent revisions has been reduced their pcb layers from 8 to 6 and low loss to mid loss pcbs . So ya they are not good as asrock series boards. Earlier revisions ya A+ tier but later revisions B+ tier .Msi b650 project zero has 10+2 DrMosfets unlike b650m gaming plus fake 10+2 discrete mosfets. They are not even close . its definitely B+ tier bcoz of its price
Gigabyte b650 gaming x has 8+2 Dr mosfets it's B tier (bcoz of its Price)
Again gigabyte b650 eagle ax and msi b650m -p wifi has descrete mosfets (B tier bcoz of features)
Msi b650m pro -a is B tier
Msi b650 pro -s is C tier
in Belgium, the Asrock b650m hdv/m.2 cost 127 euros or 140 usd, but i'm So going for this one. Here, the prices of equivalent motherboards is around 150 euros or more... So this video and your comment are very helpful, thanks !
@@Badbab1 Glad it's helpful XD
Between asrock b650m pro rs wifi and msi pro b650-p, which one would you get?

Glad this video can finally help clear things up!
i wish mainboard manufacturers would produce more mainboards with bluetooth
(i know that mainboards with bluetooth have both bluetooth and wifi… there are just way more without them!)
If a motherboard comes with built in WiFi, then it typically has built in Bluetooth
why choose one when you can have both.
any motherboard with "wifi" in it's name has both dude
Mb with wifi are more expensive, and at that point someone will complain why they don't make mb cheaper without wifi
Was thinking about getting an MSI mag tomahawk and definitely will now
You're my #1 source of pc info.
It really doesn't help that the tomahawk doesn't have a pci 5.0 m.2 slot, otherwise it could be slightly higher.
I appreciate you actually took additional time to make this video, some people rush vids like theses and don't give enough data or false data.
I've been trying to decide on a motherboard for my AM5 CPU, and this video is a blessing!
My pleasure!
I didn't even know there was this many variations of motherboards for the same model.
I got an Asrock B650 Steel legend Wifi AND a 7800X3D just a few weeks ago. I'm totally satisfied with the purchase.
Any issues with steel legend or cpu ? How much were they? And what gpu and ram ?
got this one as well (183 euro germany). planning for a 9800x3d build.
this is amazing!, I was trying to pick a motherboard for my build
Awesome awesome!
I LOVE these lists! Only request is that you try to do a little bit more ITX parts because it's really a growing segment and a lot of us are having a lot of issues finding info on ITX builds. Nice job!
Asrock is goated this generation of motherboards
Thanks for making this, helped a lot on narrowing down my decision on which motherboard to go for. Building my new pc after years of putting it off. Excited!
Really useful information Scattervolt ⚡ 👍
Love your tier list series!!! As a newbie to pc building these are incredibly informative. Please continue making these.
Been on the lookout for this video since you made that poll a few days ago. 🤙🏼
Thank you for all of the info! 👍
Unfortunately i dont have much of options here... I like Tomahawk myself but not available anywhere in my country. Asrock and gigabyte as well... The only ones that's available are Asus brand, either ROG that expensive or TUF 🤷
perfect timing 2 days ago i was deciding about which mobo to take for my little brothers 1000 build and this video pops out almost like a sign XD
Amazing
asrock b650m hdv is such a good board for the price imo, has all of the essentials, i snagged mine for 100 a week ago couldn't be happier

Would like to see tier lists for non gaming PC’s. For people that do audio production, video production, coding and work like that.
What motherboard would be the best to pair with a Ryzen 7600x and Rx 7800 XT?
I've pretty much stopped using ATX and now just use MATX. I'm pretty happy with the Asrock PG Riptide B650M

Awesome video! I would really like to see the onboard audio solution factored into the ranking someday
You put B650M-P on 2nd place of the Tier B list, instead of the B650-P.
I honestly was going to skip right over the video as I thought it was gonna be another tier list with no data or breakdowns but I was wrong. Video is great and I really like how in depth you go into each board even if they were low on the tier list! Glad I gave it a chance!

ive got steel legend b450 since late 2019 and it's still working, amazing. Average lifespan for my mobos was 2 or 3 years, depending on warranty period.
Me with ASRock B650M pro RS ♿♿♿
I recommend not considering prices in these rankings, as they tend to change over time.
They still stay in the same $20 range typically. High end should be in a different group than mid range or budget.
very good job, i was searching best motherboards for amd 9900x and they was so many price-tags and specs that I was lost in space , until your video found me. at least now I can narraw the search.
Please, re-pack this video for motherboard size, I'm only interested in Mini-Itx mobo as someone else will be interested in micro atx and atx only.
The points that I agree with:
The points that I disagree with:
The point that I have mixed opinions with:
Better audio? Is that reported on the spec sheet or is that just from personal experience sound testing each motherboard back to back?
@@ScatterVolt audio does not really matter, if u use som top end studio speakers with an integrated audio solution u will actually have a very bad experience, every time u move the mouse or the gpu is in use in a game u will hear it through the speakers. Integrated audio is really bad.
but yeah msi tomahawk is only 6layer mobo while the top end asrock here are 8layers which naturally is what u want to have for less interference and more stable system.
The timing of this video was just perfect for me. Great video, works like a guide and cheat sheet. Liked and subscribed! Thanks!

Taichi really changed my mind from buying x870/e line, my only reason for considering 870 was because of usb 4. B650e taichi check all the box while having more premium feature/build(except wifi 7) compared to 870 boards at the same price range.
Awesome effort in putting together this tier list! One thing to note that may affect one's decision is the M.2 lane sharing with the PCI-E X16 slot?
Great video; one suggestion, in the video description, categorize the MB the same as the video. It will be helpful to figure out which ones to buy
I don't want to spoil my rankings from the video already in the description lol
You missed what is probably ASUS's best b650 board here - the ProArt Creator. It's the _only_ b650 board that can run two GPUs both at x8, and has a 3rd slot too (although that shares lanes with one of the m.2 slots). Currently less than $200 at Microcenter. For anyone running VMs with a GPU passthrough two x8 slots are really useful.
I got the Gigabyte B650 Eagle Ax, it was the best option for me and it was cheaper than some of the lower tiers in this list. This video was helpful picking out an motherboard, really happy with my choice.
B650 eagle ax is pretty nice for $140 right now
Lucked out, doing a blackout no rgb build and found an open box Asrock PG B650 Lightning for $109. Perfect.

That was a quick buy and return.
the exact video i needed to put my new 7700xt on:) thank you sir!

Workin on my first amd build ever. I drove by a micro center and stopped in to ask for a 9700x3d and they had 3...so I bought 1 with no plan at all.
Great video, I checked and even for high intensity video editing no more than 8 cores seems to be the recommended amount needed.
Great work🔥
