  • A live broadcast from Griffith Observatory of the full Moon setting on the western horizon at its most southerly position in over 18 years.
Every 18.6 years, our Moon reaches the extremes of its orbit around the Earth. We observe this as the Moon rises and sets at its most northerly and southerly positions on the horizon. On the morning of June 22, we will observe the Moon setting as far to the south as it ever does. This happens during the Major Lunar Standstill.
