76 in MN and wife and I are campground hosts on wonderful Lake Vermilion - probably the most beautiful lake in Minnesota! We are not off the grid but we might as well be. We are volunteers for the DNR and we've been doing this for 12 years I think. They provide the free campsite with water and electricity for 4 months in the summer from May to the middle of September. Our only jobs are to keep the vault toilets kleen along with the grounds and be overly friendly with the campers. I'm retired and my darling wife will retire this next February. We truly love this couple as well as several other "off gridders" on YT. We have hundreds of pictures but we have not posted anything as of yet. The campground has a small website but it is run by the DNR and not very interesting. I can post the link if anyone wants it. Thanks, Dan and Marilyn. Be safe and God Bless you all.
I suggest: Storage in the front would look cluttered no matter how organized it is, so: store BEHIND for a cleaner look, AND part in Front, for shadow and protection for rain or snowfall, 1/3 back, 2/3 front.
Hey Kati & Greg, the textured plywood that you're putting up is called "T1-11, & it looks alot like board & batton siding. As a general contractor, I have installed quite alot of it. It used to be very resonably priced, & goes up very quickly Sincerely, the old Montana cowboy, Frank Scherping❤😊❤
I’m just gonna say it!!! You and Greg are my FAVORITES on the tube! I love your energy, you zest for living, your creativity, and just how well you both work together. I have learned so much from you both and love what you are doing around the homestead! Katie you do an amazing job of editing and I love your music choices! Best of luck to you both and I think you are an amazing couple! Little Steve is really growing fast! ❤️🐐🐕❤️🐕
I agree with Katie on the overhang. It would be much more useful in the back. The front overhang is too high to shield the building from rain and snow. 😢
Sorry, Greg, I'm with Katie on this one. I think the long section should have been in back. I do think you should do the house colors on that, since as Katie said, you've already got a lot of blue with the barns. The power house is more associated with "house" than "barn" anyway. As someone who's generator is under a tarp beside our house, I still think you should put a pad next to the powerhouse under that overhang and put your generator there.
Hey Greg, for future reference, any time you're sheeting a roof with rafters or trusses set at 2ft. on center, you should ALWAYS use ply-clips spaced halfway between each rafter or truss to provide support in between said rafters or trusses. It solids up everything to make the roof alot sturdier. Sincerely, the old Montana cowboy, Frank Scherping❤😅
Great video. My favorite part was the pool at the end. I just finished helping my son-in-law strip siding off his 120 year old house on a very hot sunny day. That cold clear water would have felt great.
One thing when I built my house years ago I put a two foot overhang I wish I had to put a two foot overhang around the whole house but you know how a peak is right but anyway the two foot overhang is nice because when it rains that rain doesn't even hit the walls this the gable lens that have I think it's a one foot overhang the ranch wall siding I think it's like what you got but it's called wrench wall the stain is starting to Peel you can tell the weather cracking and stuff where the rain hits it but on the overhang sides it's still perfect and you can walk out your door without getting wet
We need one of those pools today, we are on the coast, no breeze and it’s hot, hot, hot! Home tomorrow though 😢. Have a great week guys, power room looking good. I agree Katie, same colour as the house! 😊🇬🇧
Rock hiking in flip-flops, that brings back memories. I started shivering watching Katie go in...again fond memories of my younger life playing in the streams and rivers around Seattle area.
Katie one handing that nailer while holding the end of that heavy rafter and leaning from a ladder is really something. When these videos first started she was just getting started with a claw hammer. You two are getting so good with your construction abilities. It would be nice if you could find a way to upgrade your sawmill. Watching Katie trying to get it set to the thickness she wants almost hurts my body. Having to push it is hard also. With all the wood you will be using a newer unit would be nice. Glad to see Milwaukee on the job. I hope you have as much success as I have with their tools. I like the way your power building is coming along. It is going to be another nice addition to your property. Take care, have some fun, jack
That's really living the life when you can dip into your own personal spring [pond to get cooled off. I think I'm greatly jealous. And that new build looks perfect. Stick with the color scheme that you have. It will be alright. Me southern AZ. (USA)
Tyvek on the studs, plywood on the outside? Should be the reverse. Also, a wet pour for concrete slabs could be done in separate panels, one at a time with a keyway and dowels in the joints and 100mm (4 in.) mesh for reinforcing. I did seven panels 0.9m (3 ft) wide x 4.3m (14 ft) long with 2x4s forms over several days for a studio floor using a 2-bag cement mixer. Make sure the road base is well compacted and there is drainage under the slab and you're good to go.
Greg’s still got it! Hops around up on that roof like a monkey! Power shed will be great with quad parking!! Good call Greg😎 Nice to have the dunking pool to cool off. Flowers are beautiful. Everything is looking so good😎
Turning out great you guys, I hope you can get the mill going again. Can’t wait to see the color and finished shed. I think it I heard somewhere that the key to a mastermind is more than one mind working on the same problem, you two putting your minds together shows by your accomplishments.. always a pleasure thanks ❤❤❤
@ 10:40 Greg don't know how bad the wind can get there, but consider running cables to the front two corners and ground to prevent a wind lifting of the roof during any wind storms in the area as that over hang is rather large
I agree with the overhang at the front but my concern is around snow load. I feel you should either add additional bracing to the side or insert a pillar.
The chickens with the fluffy coat all the way to their feet are so cute they look like they have a snow suit on. The power shed looks great, I think brown would look better through the trees, the blue would stand out too much. What a nice plunge pool you have x
Leave the overhang for the " Powershed " on the backside for that hidden area effect ! In my opinion anyways . No sense wasting good wood . L8R from Eastern Canada . ✌ out
If you get a new mill get one that is not so much labor to your body one with hydrologic lift and turn you will love milling even more ❤❤the videos better luck with everything ❤God Bless
Just a heads up. Great job on the shed. In the future if you use the textured plywood siding you don't need the angled wind bracing that you have to cut into the two-by-four wall studs. The plywood siding does that for you. That is why they do the whole house in plywood now.
For Pinto's hotspots have you tried changing his food. You live in Canada, where they produce the best pet foods - Orijen/Acana come to mind. Or if that's too pricey then make his food. Chicken, rice, carrots, kale, blueberries. Then mix in a Purina FortiFlora pack in every week. That's all he needs. ❤
Got to be careful with those skill saw guards on them my dad had an old craftsman metal one yeah old metal and the guards stuck up all the time and that was out in the grass cutting a 2 by 4 forgot about the guard put the saw down and cut the cord got a shock so bad and blew the 15 amp breaker into house good job the Multiple Breaker flew off before I did
Hey guys, after watching most of, if not all of your videos, I’ve noticed that quite a few of your nails do not seat fully. I noticed that both of you allow the gun to “bounce” off the board when the gun drives the nail, allowing a lot of the driving energy to be lost. If you hold the gun firmly against to the board during the shot, and don’t let it “kick back” I think you’ll find that the nails will seat fully into the wood. Maybe not 100%, but more than what I’ve been seeing. I know the gun is heavy, and awkward at times, but if you can do this it will save a lot of follow-up hammering. I did a lot of DIY framing when I had time, energy and motivation. I envy what you’re doing. Keep up the great work.
That is the same type of siding on our house. It has held up very well. We live in rural Iowa, and it has held up through all four seasons. I think the color of your home for the shead will look good. The overhang doesn't look to bad really. The slop will keep the rain and snow off the front area
I like the overhang on the front. I would paint same color as the house, so it blends in better. I will say if the blue paint was cheaper to use it for the first coat then switch to the brown, it will most likely take 3 coat, because that siding soaks up the paint. I have sided the goat barn, chicken coop and green house with that (I call it car siding), and it took several gallons.
WQW! Ouch! Katie, I see what Greg means by BC Canada truly meaning "Bring Cash". Hear are some prices in Mobile, Alabama Big Box Stores prices: 2 in. x 6 in. x 16 ft. #2 Prime Dimensional Lumber @ $ 10.05 each. Then your (Nominal: ; Actual: 0.563 in. x 48 in. x 96 in. ) @ $ 36.54 each.

Good Times , Springwater dip, foraging berries, Epic! The shed lookin proper , all the construction bracing , ,straps and eaves correct....👍👍 Tell ya a little story...in 2020 me n Pops were buildin his garage in Reno, 24x36 ft.. he ran the Truss tails 10 foot past the 24foot width. Man that was a great place to BBQ, lounge in the shade or whatever. kept the snow off too. So ya done good running that overhang that far Greg. Great place for parkin the quad👍👍 Be blessed ya all🙏🙏😁😁🤙🤙
Nothings cleaner at this place - one mess pile to the next. Hopefully as the guys settle and less big work is needed to do, they can attend to the finer things
I think you’re doing it right things out of sight often get left unused. Just maybe put a couple four by fours down or something for the weather. I get it behind there there’s a lot of trees winter that overhang in the back would be a nightmare even a Florida boy knows that one of the snow sloths off the back of the shed and off the trees behind the shed everything back there will be useless unless you dig it out.
From a storage view - backside ... but from a it's mid-winter view - the overhang on the front provides additional room out of the elements to take boots off, etc, so you're not dragging snow (aka frozen water) into your ELECTRICAL room. So for that reason I personally would have a way to reduce the transfer of water into my electrical room. FRONT.
Your resourceful approach to dealing with the situation of being forced to buy lumber while the sawmill is down is truly impressive. The way you navigate the challenge with creativity and determination highlights your adaptability and problem-solving skills. Your ability to share these moments with transparency and resilience not only inspires but also provides valuable insights into overcoming unexpected obstacles. And I am Floating Village Life.
That is the exactly same ranch wall I put on my house and come primer stained and I had not touched it for years The way you used to build the house was you had to put plywood down on your studs space supply would half inch cobra with tar paper then put your siding on and I put ranch wall on that's the only part of my house that has particle board on it rest of the house is real plywood
Good morning Katie and Greg The shed looks good 👍. I think it would look nice color matched to the house. Glad Greg got some new red tool's. I bet the water was refreshing.
What a wonderful world it would be if more people were like the two of you! Hardworking, kind to your animals, obvious love and respect towards each other❤️ Your videos always make me feel better! I love the color of your house- my vote is for the brown.

congratulations on the purchase of your Milwaukee power tools. best power tools period. longer run time, better torque and very durable. we need an Eduardo update. haven't seen him in a few vids. if you think it's hot where you are, come to phoenix, az in the summer. 100 plus every day...stay cool my friend.
Think about when it rains or snow you have cover to get into when that happens. Also equipment can sit under it. Also shade we hen the sun is giving off heat.
Put the overhang in the back. I understand the need to protect the equipment in the winter. My concern with such a large overhang would be the weight of the snow on the roof during the winter.
Hi both good to see Katie back in her summer work outfit lol 😂 😅😂😅Question for Greg will that roof coop with 2ft of snow on it or will the extension break off under the weight? That pool looks so inviting and I bet it was so refreshing.😊😊😊😊😊
I'm with Katie , overhang on the back. Store stuff at the back it would look better . Love your videos❤❤❤ also I think brown would blend in a little better with all the trees 😊
I think Brown would look good on the building, but I think you should pour more concrete where you have the overhang and make you a small porch. Set you some yard furniture and it would look great. Be a good place to drink your coffee in the morning.
Paint it any color you want! I'm with Katie that it looks weird... In the states we call that outside cladding T-111. You folks never cease to amaze me with all your mad skills! :):)
Katie the problem with your dry-pour is that you didn't go around the edges and smack the boards to make sure that the concrete had all settled in the way that it should and the edges needed a bit more water so that it could penetrate all the way down. Also, you needed to trowel the top surface so that the cream floated to the top to seal the concrete. What the issue that you're having is just a little bit of inexperience in doing the process. So don't beat yourselves up about how it looks. You can put a concrete sealer on it to make the top surface will adhere better.
But the overhang on the back because the front is just going to get wet anyway from the ring on an angle it would be nice if you could have cut it halfway and sloped it back downwards on the front then it would look nice
LESS SCRAP when you cut in a window in the house wrap. Don't cut the opening out but cut an "X" from corner to corner and fold the tabs back in. Also protects the edges of the wood
Aren't you afraid that this overhang will be too big and will have difficulty supporting the weight of the snow? personally I will add two beams to support the roof. have a good summer 😘
Always great to see a new video, Katie and Greg. Question...Do you think you will, eventually, put solar panels on the roof of your house? Its awesome to know that your channel is growing and has enabled both of you to dedicate your time on your homestead. Everything is looking wonderful.
We dont get enough un interrupted sunlight to justify having panels on our home. a ground mount system is always better. That being said, we just purchased a few new panels to boost up our solar and will be installing them soon.
❤ Katie I'm with you on the overhang, and another thing you always talking about heat watching you is very hard on us older guys you make the sun feel cool, hope it doesn't offend you young folks but someone has to tell it like it is,I'm not saying stop it cause that would make me a liar , good luck you do fine work and video,
Great teamwork, best on any UA-cam. I’m concerned about window being installed after siding. The flange on window would keep water from going inside wall. I noticed you cut Tyvek outline of window too. Why not wrap over window and door ledge to deflect water? I realize you have overhang so it might prevent rain sliding down wall and entering building.
I am 86 and really willing you to put a video up, as boy so sick of the politics on all sides of the pond I sit here on my own and you to are fantastic people and your animals make my days so much better and all way bring a smile to me and the little goat boy what a happy soul so full of fun Hope you get your saw mill working soon Thank you.

Hi both good to see Katie back in her summer work outfit lol 😂 😅😂😅Question for Greg will that roof coop with 2ft of snow on it or will the extension break off under the weight? That pool looks so inviting and I bet it was so refreshing.😊😊😊😊😊
Hey Katie i agree with you go ahead and paint it brown yall have a great rest of your weekend and be safe🙂💕
Yall did a great job on the shed, sorry about the sawmill, yall have saved so much on wood prices. Great video.😊
I watched a garage builder from Vermont and all he did was mostly garages. He called that rough sawn with vertical lines T-111 plywood.
Great teamwork again and good you are taking time to refresh !!
Split the difference and leave an even amount sticking out on each side. To create water flow away from the foundation.
All the hard work, and look what you are able to enjoy!!!😊
Overhang which ever side the door is for rain and snow protection.😊
Katie and Greg the solar house looks great and Steven is getting so big ❤️🇨🇦
I'm with Katie , overhang on the back. Store stuff at the back it would look better . Love your videos❤❤❤ also I think brown would blend in a little better with all the trees 😊
I think Brown would look good on the building, but I think you should pour more concrete where you have the overhang and make you a small porch. Set you some yard furniture and it would look great. Be a good place to drink your coffee in the morning.
Paint it any color you want! I'm with Katie that it looks weird... In the states we call that outside cladding T-111. You folks never cease to amaze me with all your mad skills! :):)
If you put trim on like you did on the chicken coop and barn, id flip the colour of the barn/coop so do blue trim and brown/espresso ranch board) ❤
It's great watching you guys, and so much progress. What an awesome team😊
But the overhang on the back because the front is just going to get wet anyway from the ring on an angle it would be nice if you could have cut it halfway and sloped it back downwards on the front then it would look nice
Your building looks good well done to you both, the hang over look okay.👍🥰👏👏👏👏
Your shed looks great. I think you might need posts in the front over hang because of the snow.
Love the Katie Spring water plunge!!! Thank you!!
ya I would go with the brown and the shed is coming together and yes Greg need some new tools
You will likely need some support on the veranda overhang, with the snow load that you may get.
Yummy garlic harvest video for ya
Extra space you could box it in a make a feed storage bin.
Yeah I think Katie was right 👍 Love your videos ❤
you both should visit the fresh spring as much as possible all summer till it gets cold..... a good place to cool down till winter arrives. this year.
One lucky man here! You guys make a fantastic couple….
LESS SCRAP when you cut in a window in the house wrap. Don't cut the opening out but cut an "X" from corner to corner and fold the tabs back in. Also protects the edges of the wood
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
And the one thing I do like about the chicken door that I got this time the frame is all metal not plastic
Hi Katie I would paint it the same as your home it looking so good 😊
Hi , suggestion try putting a reminder in your phone for Monday and it beep periodically until it's done.
In this case the siding is also the sheathing, so imo they did it the only way you can.
It's coming together beautifully 😍! Keep up the hard work 💪🏻
