A beautiful ❤️ Very Quiet Peacefull place of Nysirpd Greece 🇬🇷 I love it 😍 thanks sir Gabe For your Wonderful walk around tour Godbless from the Philippines 🇵🇭 sir Vhin 🙏👍👍👏👏👏
Well, you shouldn't be actually. Greek islands are picturesque and easy going, but trust me,you don't want to live in one of them forever, unless it is a big island, like Creta,Rhodes,Corfu,Lesvos. Nisyros is only a small island and it is ideal for holidays but if you chose to live there permanently, you would regret it. In the wintertime, islands of this size are almost empty and if you needed medical treatment you would be in trouble. And Greek people seem to be so happy and friendly, but this is not the case. Trust me,I am Greek and I know Greeks like the palm of my hand !
Yup - those shrines by the road are for the people who died at that location in car accidents - but not only for that purpose, some are just small shrines. Those are called iconostases or kandilakia...
A small, quiet Dodecanese island in the south Aegean Sea between Kos, Tilos and Astypalea, Nisyros is most well-known for its active volcano that has one of the world's largest hydrothermal craters, as well as its hot springs including Loutra and Pali.
Another beautiful video to enjoy as the perfect compliment to my cup of coffee this morning in cold rainy WA state! Thanks for these amazing glimpses into your travels in paradise.
You have done so many incredible videos and this one is just excellent. It was very enjoyable to watch you explore the little village that is between ruin and restoration. Thank you, from Gabriola Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Hey Gabriel, I thought for sure you would buy that place with the toilet in the hallway and fix it up so you could have a place to stay when you come to Greece. Then you can rent it out during the times you're not going to be there. LOL You know it's not a bad idea if you have lots of money to invest. If you like Greece like you do, you could go there every year and spend 3 months exploring. That enclosed two wheel thing you saw was a motorcycle and they enclose it with that shell. I was thinking about buying one of them for here in Thailand because of all the rain we get but I bought a new Honda 350. It's a little big for me because of my balance problem so I'm gonna put a sidecar on it. That way I can go anywhere I want to and carry a tent and all kinds of other stuff.
It’s nice to see that people from other countries visit other islands than Mykonos and Théra (Santorini). There are sooooo many different islands with different vibes that is a shame that 80% of the tourists only know Mykonos… 🇬🇷Hellas isn’t just Mykonos guys! Take your research and visit less known islands!
Thanks for another great Greece video, Gabe. You may already know this, but Chris and Carol from Jumping Places are also in Greece. At least they were in their last video. They were in Milos.
I haven't watched the video yet (something to look forward to this evening!), but I recently worked remotely from Skopelos for two weeks, although Nisyros was my second choice of island. I only chose Skopelos in the end because the WiFi in the Airbnb I found in Nisyros didn't sound that reliable! I was more than happy with my Skopelos choice, but still hope to get to Nisyros later in the year. 😊
In Greek Mythology when God Poseidon was chasing giant Polivoti with Zeus orders he cracked with his triane island Kos and throw that big stone to him, This stone is Nisyros island❤
A great video - v interesting and varied- Nisyros looks very beautiful and definitely somewhere we now intend to visit. We’re actually traveling from UK to Thassos island at the end of June, we know unlikely but would be great to see you go there or even accidentally bump into you on a walk! 🇬🇷
Oh,I love Thasos. I live in central Greece and Thasos is a good and more accesible destination, because I don't need to travel long and endless hours aboard a ship or a ferry. Thasos is ideal in many aspects. But it is being discovered by more people, year by year and it is now a bit not that easy going like it was in the past. In the late 80s,when I first spent holiday time there,it was a secret paradise really.
Thanks for that great video As a matter of fact my dad was born in that old village called Emborio He then left Nysiros for Melbourne I personally spent quite some time at Emborio as a kid in the late 60´s and I can remember having used what you thought was a toilet. I fact it was a well where people used to Go and get their water from. Thanks again for your vids and keep up the great job you’re doing
Nice video as always.Any plans to visit north Aegean islands?(Chios, Lesbos, Lemnos)They are very beautiful with lot of history to see... Wish you the best for your travells. P.s.I said it before in an other video of yours and i will say it again. At 34:54 you are looking like Gerald from the Witcher videogame when is ready to loot a chest in ancient Greek ruins...😆
Hey Gabriel! Our traveling UA-cam family just landed in Nepal, and might end up doing the Langtang Trail if the weather doesn’t break in Lukla. Enjoy Greece!
Gabriel, question, for you, please: Provided that you ever take a rest from travelling, and decide to settle down anywhere, would that "Anywhere" ever be ... Greece? Another question for you, please: You seem to pack a lot into your days. On average, what time of the day do you get up and then, hit the hay? Curious only because you seem to make a lot of hay whilst the sun is shining, every day.
Thank you, Gabriel (always) for sharing your travels with us. You go the distance so we can engage in a bit of ... robe-trotting (armchair travelling sometimes wearing just our jammies / PJs), rather than globe trotting. Those striped kitty-kats are so damn kute! I wonder how they get fed. Many look so SCRAWNY, poor things! And, the villages are also so pretty AND picturesque, as well.
Moussaka is great. You can cook it when you visit your mother in California. Gabriel, you can use your mother's kitchen to cook the moussaka. It is very rewarding. 🥘

That is not a toilet but a cistern (water reservoir),, you can see the groove around the top, that's were the lid would go to keep it sealed,, you retrieve the water just like you would a well.
Hi Gabriel, Stunning pictures of the volcano these Islands over the years must have experienced some bad earthquakes at least that's how I'm viewing the damage, and some people just decided not to come back. I often wonder whether you're deciding on seeking Greek citizenship and also seems a good place to fly out from the middle of Europe close to all the areas you travel to. Political tensions mean nothing when it comes to trading. There is a tremendous amount of exchange between Turks and Greeks on a daily basis and this happens not only in the islands but in the mainland too. On the north-eastern border with Turkey,in Evros, there is serious traffic of cars and vehicles coming in and going out of Greece daily, especially those who head towards Istanbul (or,Constantinople).
Cyclades are very windy, Crete is quite windy. Less windy are Ionian islands, even less windy the north Aegean islands. South Dodecanese (Rhodes) are quite windy but not the north.

You are right. Plenty of the inhabitants had moved abroad, since the 30s or the 40s,due to the lack of employment and as a consequence, due to poverty, choosing destinations like USA,Canada or Australia. Loads of Greeks from various islands live abroad, generation to generation.
Are there any danger of toxic gases, like CO2, in the lowest areas of the central crater? Who would inform you about that in Nisyros? They are invisible odorless, and people have been known to pass out from them, like in northern Long Valley in CA.
