We have 6000 islands of only like 227 have people living on them im a greek and will probably never see them all.but it's fun to try you should as well the coast and in land is just as beautiful so lots of ground to cover
Damn i have a severe l5s1 disc herniation and couldn’t walk or sleep for 4 months and couldn’t sit for 1 year so i know your pain. Unbearable pain unfortunately,im sorry for you i hope you will recover
One of the most common questions people ask is “How many Greek islands are there?” Depending on how you define what an island is, Greece has around 6000 islands! Most of them are tiny and uninhabited, but even so, you will have 227 inhabited, gorgeous islands to choose from.
When you think it surely can't get any more stunning!!!! Explorers paradise, as for the hidden religious murals....unbelievable....no security no entrance fee....and it's so lovely and quiet.. wonderful....
The saint slaying the dragon is always St. George. Byzantine iconography has very specific rules, it's all symbolysms, including the choice of colour. Great videos, enjoy your time there!
This is wrong. The first (chronologically) Saint to be pictured slaying a dragon,is Saint Theodore, who was actually called The Dragon-slayer. St George comes after but, again, he is not the only one permanently being painted in Byzantinee Hagiography. You have St Demetrius (Dimitrios) too,he's slaying a dragon or a snake too.
'ΑΓΙΟΣ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ' as depicted on the icons & frescos themselves is the most wide spread of the dragon slaying saints (St Demetrius - Thessaloniki & St Theodosius are also common warrior saints). From all the ΑΓ. ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ icons in there, but mostly from the fresco above the altar, this little church is dedicated to him and would be locally known as "St. George's church/chapel"..
I noticed Gabriel is happiest when No one else is around. It looks dry Like where Gabriel is from. I love the blue sea, white and blue churches , buildings, flag.
in the 8th century BC, people from Telos, together with other Dorian settlers from the nearby islands, came to Sicily and founded the town of Gela. 100 years later the citystate of Gela with new settlers from the Dodecanese Islands and Crete will found Akragas , today Agrigento.

The Greek Orthodox Church is a living community, and keeps records , has all its shrines listed, including the one you visited here. It is dedicated to St. George, the Soldier, Defender of the community against the Enemies of the Faith, symbolized by the dragon. It is an Icon, not merely a picture, if it has the name of the saint written on it. Usually at the left side it says O Agios ," The Saint," and on the right side it says the name, in this case Georgios, and under, any titles. often, for example, "Bishop of Tilos'", etc. Glad to see you taking the time to see these small islands of Greek culture, and filming them for us, and even, practicing reading signs --and Icons,--in Greek!
Hi Gabe...I've just had a week chilling and exploring on Tilos after walking on the Lycian Way. I asked some locals about the structural damage to Micro Chorio and was told it was bombed by the Nazis. I heard this happened on Kastelorizo too and maybe on other Dodecanese islands as well... The elephant cave was just a bit higher up past the museum but access wasn't allowed. Amazing island though and great for hiking, trails everywhere. Looking forward to seeing your new Himalayan adventure....🙏
I see, wow, very interesting if that's the case. I wonder why they would bother dropping bombs on old ruins on remote Greek islands? Maybe stray bombs or perhaps allied soldiers were hiding there. It would be pretty interesting to hear the full story.

Regarding the club in the abandoned village opening at 10pm - not unusual at all for Greece (in fact, 10pm is quite early!). Young people often don’t go out until midnight!
Exploring Greek islands, especially the less busy ones, is really so exciting, adventurous and relaxing at the same time! very nice video, 🙏 thanks
ευχαριστώ
Love the style. Definitely close to what we have in France " Guide du Routard" where you go to the roots. Far away from Condé Nast... love it
And definitely not "American" as style... love it
Gabe. Are you going to additional islands next? I just came back to US after our last stop of Crete and your trip is helping keep my right there!
Yes, I'm on another island now.
Wow! My hope is that, when I die-between lives-I’ll have a small Sailboat, travelling these Aegean seas, visiting islands such as Tilos, and others like it. Of course, this will be in the “world of perfect form,” and days will be perfect, no quakes, no overly hot days-no faulty gas gages🤣. I dream of spending a couple of (virtual) years, between lives, doing nuttin’ but exploring these little, sparsely-populated islands. Thanks for giving me (who cannot travel), a taste of what awaits me, post-(physical)-mortem ;))
Good mornig
So beautiful! Thanks Gabriel :)
