Some characters are ahead of their time. Dazzler was always a step behind. With her jumpsuits and roller skates, Alison Blaire was outdated the moment she made her comics debut. But so what? That didn’t stop fans from loving her anyway (including Behind the Panel host, Mike Avila). During her 40 year history she’s been cancelled, killed (more than once), been sent into deep space by Galactus, joined the X-Men, quit the X-Men, become a comics industry punchline and even made her long-awaited film debut in Dark Phoenix - and didn’t get a word of dialogue. Okay but why in the bloody blue hell nobody’s giving her real props that Dazzler is an Omega Level Mutant...period!!!!
She is The Mother of light and sound.
Let that sink in for a fews minutes as i carry on.
Underappreciated and loved by a lot of comics fans. She has a deep lore that I hope one day Marvel decides to give a real sincere shot at a TV or Movie franchise and Disney's politics don't morph her into something shes not. Like Jacob said in a comment, my attention to her came with the "Outback era" and pride of the Xmen pilot cartoon.
My love for Dazzler began with the Outback Era of the Uncanny X-Men, natch. That she was able to stand out among a cast of characters that included such strong personalities as the likes of Storm, Rogue, and Wolverine really caught my attention, and I love that she loves to sing.
I'm very happy that Dazzler is getting her deserved time in the spotlight! But I have to ask: Will She-Hulk also be getting an "At 40" video too? Her debut was 40 years ago on November 13th and I'd love to see Shulkie get similar discussion video.

@@JessNukethedangthing "Oookaaayyy" Thanks for assuming how I feel "😜" I was merely suggesting my favorite fictional character /also/ get a discussion video for the same milestone on a UA-cam channel I enjoy watching because it's something I /also/ want to see. Not once did I say she wasn't "getting her due". Also it's really obvious I know about She-Hulk's comic appearances and limited series on Disney+ by my recent UA-cam comments and even my profile picture. So just take your unnecessary comments elsewhere...
Damn, I think if anyone deserves a "gritty reboot" it should be Dazzler. Could you even imagine what she'd be like in the age of streaming music?
Dazzler was awesome. Part of me wishes she'd been modeled after the lovely Ms. Grace Jones, but Marvel was a long way from getting stories of people of color right. But why Bo Derek? She was incredibly gorgeous, but I can think of a dozen singer/musicians from that time that would have been more convincing. Debbie Harry immediately comes to mind.

Wrong, Black Panther was a black lead of a comic and they went above and beyond to stay away from the normal stereotypes, they lifted the character beyond skin color and made him his own character. He was followed and read because he was a great character instead of some stereotype skin color. So this BS about "Doing people of color right" is a racist remark whether you intended it to be or not. Educate yourself.
No they didn't. Do you know who even invented the Black Panther character? Do you think if people of color had been the principal writers of their own stories back then, they'd have written about a costumed king of an imaginary place on another continent? Do you think any black writer would not use the medium to tell stories a lot closer to home?
Speaking as a Latino, I can name all of the Latinx characters - heroes and villains - written back then and could pick their stereotypes apart, but was happy enough to know they existed in the first place and they weren't being shipped off to some imaginary MesoAmerican country, where their power couldn't interfere with a white American hegemony.
No one faults Marvel for trying. They were a hell of a lot more courageous than, say, television and film. But to prop up Black Panther as a model of true representation... yeah. I mean, I wouldn't. But you do you.
Of course, I was alive when all those titles were on the shelves. I read them!

The x-men annual issue 11 was my first x-book and favorite. Dazzler was in the original animated x-men pilot , pride of the x-men.
I love Dazzler! So underrated.
One of my first comics was Dazzler #2. I have most of the original run. Good to hear so many behind the scene things about Dazzler.
Thanks for making me feel old. I remember picking up the first issue of Dazzler at a comic shop and then putting it into a collectable bag for safe keeping. It's still in a longbox somewhere in the back of a closet.

True. I as someone born in the 80's, that's my first reference point for the character.
People always laugh when I say Dazzler is one of my favorite classic characters, but her original series was fun. It was part superhero story/part musical soap opera.

I don't understand the hate... or the neglect of page time. Dazzler is awesome! If writers took her seriously fans would love her.
I really like Dazzler.. rumor has it that Taylor Swift will play her as cameo in the upcoming X-Men films, but they said the same thing too back in 2006 that Madonna would play her after "Hung Up" was released.
I have loved Dazzler since I bought Uncanny X-Men 130 off the spinner rack as a kid! That JR Jr. cover had me at first sight.
I've always liked Dazzler, mainly because she's a mutant, and for me, x-men over every other comic book character! I read and overall enjoyed her 42 issue run from the 80s, and I still have them. I love her origin story in that first issue. I also wrote a poem based on her origin and powers, and I plan to release it for the world to hear someday. Beauty and the Beast by Ann Nocenti and Don Perlin is good too. The first time I met Nocenti, which was at East Coast Comic Con (2019), I brought an original page from that series and issue #2 for her to sign. Later I sold the page for a particular reason lol, but I still have the book, CGC graded signed by Nocenti, Perlin and Shooter. Dazzler will never go out of style.

True to the adage that your first exposure is usually your favorite, to me Dazzler belongs in Mojoworld fighting alongside Longshot in her slightly militarized update of 80's blue costume.

Dazzler was the embodiment of the saying: "All style and no substance." As a matter of fact, she is more of a young female adult novel character than a marvel superhero. Because of this reason, she is nothing but a "C" level character in the marvel universe.
