In the 70s, Marvel partnered with Casablanca Records to produce Dazzler, the first ever live action Avengers movie and it was supposed to be a musical?!

It looks like I wasn't clear enough in the video, but Dazzler was whitewashed when Bo Derek was approached to play her in the live action movie. That's my bad for not being specific about it.

Dazzler was always white and had different powers between the main & ultimate universes, besides they’ve plenty black characters in comics now, so what’s the matter?!

Well we did get Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, which also has Kiss as superheroes. I vaguely remember watching it once. It was about what you'd expect.

As created by Shooter, this is the perfect terribly cheeseball 70's made-for-TV movie. I can feel the anticipation eclipsing the wait for the Captain America 'films' or Hulk movies!
And throw in Snooki from the jersey shore

Dazzler is very underrated, she is actually one of the most powerful mutants. She defeated a herald of Galactus, can move faster than light and can solidify light and use them as weapons.
She can absorb sound and turn it into a destructive light power. Also the Beyonder chose her and gave her half of his power and she became a goddess, just saying how cool her character is
Not to mention that in her solo series she and Rogue went at it more than once and Dazzler always won.
@@K1ng1995 yeah,that was in the 80s I think. But I believe Rogue is far more powerful and dangerous now.
She also has the power of Wonder Man and now she can control her absorbing power.
But Dazzler is definitely a high level threat. Her oneshot comic was weird but very good too, took on Dr Strange, Enchantress and then Klaw. She also obliterates Galactus, dont know how...

@Caleb Mayfield I mean, they had big plans for her, didn't work out, then they put in the X-Men comics for a long while, then she was rumored to have a cameo in X-Men Apocalypse but was only given an Easter Egg mention in a deleted scene of said movie, then finally making her appearance in a mediocre X-Men movie hardly anyone talks about or remembers.
She also made a cameo in the Miles Morales game as a collectible item in a form of a concert ticket...
If Dazzler ever makes another cameo in a movie, I want her to be portrayed by Katy Perry.

I wished the original idea went ahead. I loved the cast they were hoping for and who would not have loved the idea of Robin William making both women fight over him from his charm and having Rodney Dangerfield as three lawyers. It would have been awesome and either been a classic or a cult classic after a few years.
The Rodney Dangerfield idea reminds of when Jim Carrey played most of the characters in the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" movie from 2004.

I had randomly seen posts ages ago about Dazzler originally going to be black, and it's nice to see the details about that, because I had no clue. (I think Jennifer Hudson would be a fantastic modern day Dazzler, if we're going back to her origins)
That's a large reason why I love this series (and your videos in general). You put in the time and research for your videos and present the information in a straightforward format, and you're not condescending about it.
That being said...yes, Dazzler was only in Dark Phoenix, but she was the best part of Dark Phoenix, lol.
Wow. Never knew this. Great story. I always liked Dazzler and she was on the front line team of the X-Men for quite a while. I did wonder how the "Dazzler the Movie" graphic novel fit in to the rest of your tale. You showed it but didn't mention it. Timewise it seems like it came out in the middle of her series 4 year run. I guess it was inspired by the real life story of her character's creation.

I was listening to the stellar “X-Men Audio Drama Podcast” the other night, and when Dazzler was introduced, she was a “Sweet Child of Mine” belting Cyndi Lauper soundalike. From this point forward, THAT is Dazzler in my mind.

I think it’d be great to have the original concept of Dazzler be created and made into a movie character or a comic. More black representation is never a bad thing imo and I retro style disco character would be fun.
Seems a little insulting and very stereotyping to make her a POC. Have her speaking funky black??? Disco queen?? Dazzler fine the way she is. We already have amazing black female characters they could focus on. Let’s develop a stronger Storm character in movies. Sorry, Halle Berry was not it. Let’s see Monica Rambo solo movie. She’s an interesting likable character, then our current Captain Marvel.

This pitch makes the Peter Frampton/Bee Gees "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" movie seem mundane by comparison! And that's a movie whose resolution consists of a golden weather vane turning into Billy Preston, who abracadabras Frampton from jumping off a tall building, abracadabras his love interest back to life, and abracadabras all the villains into members of the Clergy! I legitimately enjoy that movie to begin with despite its flaws, but I think I found a movie that manages to be even more bizarre than that! I'm not even sure if I enjoy it or hate it, it's THAT surreal!

i hope this idea could get an episode on a future season of What If. The plot of the movie sounds bonkers and insane and i love it!
also, the depowering Dazzler idea to make people tell the truth sounded really terrible. Good thing that didn't happen.

Dazzler had/has a lot of promise. They just needed to stop throwing every short-lived gimmick they could find (disco & roller skates, leg-warmers & headbands) at the character. A mutant getting one over on humans by using her light-based powers as if it were part of a music show was a really good idea.
Avengers Rock Opera and all of those other project and things... was like Disco, Very Dead.
But all it take it little listen to be Dazzle. *Lillie dress up like her and dance to beat*

Though it would be cool if Marvel Studios added Dazzler to the MCU, cast an actual singer in the role, and then actually go on tour and release albums as Dazzler. Disney's got access to a lot of singers/actresses. They could totally pull it off.

Am I the only one whose always wanted Dazzler to be updated into ‘DJ Dazzler’? Her light powers just make that such an obvious fit to me, and with minor changes her look would fit techno/rave easily. So is it just me?
I was forced to read Dark Phoenix because of a friend, and the only thing I remember about it to this day is Dazzler.

I don't remember you mentioning why Dazzler isn't black.
From what I can make of the timeline presented in the video, Bo Derek was probably still attached to the movie/multimedia stuff by the time the initial crossover comics started being made (and Daryl Hannah was implied to be on board around the time her solo series dropped). So basically it was like how casting/costume choices in wider reaching adaptations effect comics nowadays, except with a character that hadn't even debuted yet.

What a glorious trainwreck that would have been. A cult classic to rival the Star Wars Xmas Special. As a teenager I would have hated it. As an adult I would have loved it in all its awful cringey glory. Truly a reason to wish for alternate reality / multiverse TV to watch a rerun of that.
