This soundtrack is one of my most valued discs in my 2500+ music collection. I wore out the cassette (of course) during my first year college. It may not get a play for awhile but when I return to it, its magic once again. J & MC 'Hardest Walk' is the sleeper gem of this soundtrack. The fadeout repeat chorus of 'don't want you to...need me, don't need you to...want me' is the one of the most brilliant verses of all time (IMO). NOTE - the soundtrack version of 'Hardest Walk' is different (better IMO) than the album track on J&MC Physco Candy. Thanks for posting...

John Hughes turned a lot of people onto a lot of great music. He was like a mainstream Anton Corbin. This soundtrack rules and the film is also the most "arty" of JH's 80's films (w. Eric Stoltz and Mary Stewart Masterson and the red head from the back to the future films and "Caroline" tv show). I've always really liked the cover of Can't Help Falling in Love by Lick the Tins off this soundtrack. It's like a female pogues punky scotts music cover...and o/c any serious JAMC fan is also a fan of the Pogues...so bonus.
Jesus and Mary chain would reach this kind of production on the Automatic album and it's this that makes their qualities shine through for me. Great song for a great movie soundtrack.
This version wouldn't be out of place at all on "Darklands"; it sounds like it was recorded during that time. This is the first Mary Chain song I ever heard, after a friend made me a copy of this soundtrack back in 1987. They've been my favorite band ever since.
This is really interesting - big-time commercial slick pop packaging for the Mary Chain's spiky noisiness. I'm imagining that this is how they'd have ended up sounding if we lived in some (awesome!) alternate reality where the Mary Chain are bigger than U2. The contrived poppy tweakings actually WORK here - proving once and for all that (a) the Jesus and Mary Chain were (at their best) the most awesome fucking pop band on the planet; and (b) that you can tweak and fiddle with a good pop song as much as you like and somehow never ruin it. 'The Hardest Walk' is pure pop perfection, always was and always will be. I should probably also add that 'Geo69xr' below doesn't have a fucking clue what he's talking about...
