Dude holy smokes thanks for the video! I think I've finally found my issue. Going to try and start it in neutral tomorrow. Replaced and tested so many things already. This is exactly what my truck is doing
I have been vexed by this issue in my 96 f350 for two years. As long as i raced the engine on start up and feathered out the throttle, the lope would rectify in five to ten seconds. I tried your trick of putting it in neutral and cranking and my experience is exactly as your video indicates! Thank You! I can not tell you how many mechanics have failed to resolve this issue. I have ordered the part. Thank you thank you!
6 months of heart brk A couple ICPs and a couple IPRs chasing wires inspecting everything and then I found your video and problem now solved.I thank you sir. My 97 F250 is like a new trk. Thanks again.
Thanks for the vid. This was my problem exactly, but mine loped in park and neutral. I have a 1997 F-250, E40D tranny. My Ford part number was F5TP-7F293-AA. The Masterpro I got from Oreilly's was part number 2-8825. Mine was an 8 pin connector. Hopefully this helps someone. Not a lot of info on these things on the net.
I will have to remember this. My dad has a 96 7.3 that did this and I thought it was stiction. I changed the oil and filter, that helped some. I tried Archoil additives in the oil and fuel. After a few trips it was running fine again. He uses Amsoil diesel oil and filters with their bypass filter also. He hadn't changed oil for several years as he doesn't drive much. So I am not sure what part helped, I just glad it did. I progress with the 977 has slowed since it got to hot for an old fat man to work. Thanks for the great videos!
I just fixed another one this week same issue his was intermittent it had 636K on it and after 3 transmissions no one had bothered to put a neutral safety switch. My progress has slowed some too. i cut the property line on the 25 acres we have that borders our 50. suppose to have timber cut off it and then ill have a 25 acre stump patch. In progress of finishing up the D7 Cable unit made some footage yesterday but will upload finished product hopefully this week. once timber is cut ill put up plenty of footage.
I have the same problem, starting to not engage gears when shifter is moved to different opsitions. Have put 3 different ones on will not start except with origional stock one. Have old edge programer in it have called edge, all young people they dont know if it has to have stock program put in or not what do you think im 75 and tired of getting under truck for the same thing. Please help
It could be a lot of things. So when you say starting to not engage like it won’t take gear or what? Possibly loose shift cable bracket on the back of the steering column? It’s hard to say without being there to take a quick look over and check some things. I’ve had trucks come to me wouldn’t take park and the bracket had came completely loose and when you thought it was in park but was in reverse. Just can be so many things.
@@HaydenIngram thanks for reply, i put new shift cable, new shift bushins on stering collum. About half the time now it want engage any gear when put in gear. Go back to park then to gear it will work. Probly will get worse
I have replaced with 3 different ones and it will not start. Go back to old one it does ok have been putting up with it sence july of last year. I happen to think i got edge program it it. With 100 hp. So i went to tow mode. I thought i wonder if its the fact that it has the program in it that want let the stock switches worl. So i called edge. No one eorking there now knows about 7.3s
@@howardwatts4238 the program should have nothing to do with whether or not it’ll start. I guess im having a hard time understanding what exactly you’ve replaced the neutral safety switch? And then it won’t take gear and physically won’t move? If so the safety switch won’t help you any there.
@@HaydenIngram hey brotha i know its a year later now but my pickup is doing something similar as well. 95 zf5. Was my fathers for 13 years pcm has not been replaced with an auto any idea what else it could be?

You are the first person ive seen to actually show the problem and not just the repair. Kudos!

Awesome video I've been having same problem I'm gonna try this tomorrow thank you very much I subscribed
Glad this video helped you.
Did the netrual test and bam that was the problem.
What is the actual part called that’s causing this problem. I don’t think you ever said
Neutral safety switch or range sensor. Been several years but I believe the part number is in the video too.
My cars been surging and was loping when I started it last night so this could be the problem ? Think it’s the same with gas car?
This is for a 7.3 Powerstroke 94.5-97
This video is top notch for real right to the point quick diagnose example of what it’s doing etc then the fix
What parts is that
Thank You!!!

Wait so what is the part called?
range sensor or neutral safety switch. BWD 9192 p/n for this particular truck. 1997 f350 7.3 4x4 e4od
@@HaydenIngram thank you very much
What do u mean take your linkage off
The shift cable/linkage.
What is this part called
neutral safety switch or transmission range sensor
My 1999 just started this. Any body else run in this problem with there 1999.
I ran across it a couple times on super duties. Icp sensor can cause it even had a glow plug relay not working cause it. Also low fuel pressure.
Does this apply to 1999 and up
i havent ran across it yet but anythings possible.
Curious about the manual transmission obs doing this periodically?
Have read where the truck was either converted from auto to manual and they didn’t change pcm or they put a auto pcm in a manual truck at some point.

seems like a sticking injector
If it was that it would just misfire not lope.
