Kudos to your long, detailed review! I've been wearing my magic speed for 1-2 months now. While it does feel lighter and easier to run fast, it's a bit too rigid for me especially at the bottom and it makes a lot more noises than my other shoes whenever I landed. After my runs I also felt discomfort in my forefoot, which did not happen when I wore my usual Nike pegasus series. Yesterday I ordered a cruvheal sports insole and I'll substitute my magic speed 4 insoles to see if it helps alleviate my pain

Have over 200KMs in my Magic Speed 3. Somehow, they punish me if I run slow in them. With the increase stack height and inclusion of FF Turbo - these hv become more versatile, unlike Magic Speed 3.
Since the Magic Speed 4 is so different then the last version, I think it is doable to have the new model for long and steady runs and the Magic 3 for fast runs ! A good combo for Asics fans ! I still got my Magic Speed 3 with al almost 100 miles. Maybe I should consider the Magic Speed 4 rather then the Adidas Boston 12 (13th should come soon with upper update) to pair with the other Asics shoes I got ?! Used to be Adidas and Nike, but the past three or four years, the brand I buy most shoes every year is Asics .
I'm thinking the Magic Speed would be better if they put a full SL2-type layer of racing foam. Based on early leaks, I thought they were going to do that: top layer Turbo, bottom layer Blast+. California is quite mountainous. I can see the antennas on Mt. Wilson out my window. Real estate is crazy expensive though. Even in a nice but not rich neighborhood like mine, houses will sell for > $1M now. We bought right after the 2008 recession. John Stockton would be proud of you, the way you rocked those shorts. :)
Real Question Bro: I'm training for a half. I have Clifton 9's and SL2's I use for miles. I'm 6'1", 238lb. Now my race pace at the moment is like 8:45-9:00/mile. So, when you say some shoes only feel good fast, when you say fast, is fast not relative in this instance? Is it actual "they only feel good at a 7:00 or better, or just "your own fast pace ?" Hope that makes sense.
Relative to your own fast pace! Usually I will add some context if I think it's best suited to a certain exact pace range, but that is usually more about time on feet
I took these out for my first run today and set a PR in the 1km so I can't knock it for speed. I did take it for a 5km walk a couple of days ago to break it in as it felt so stiff around my ankle at first.
I must be an Asics guy because everything I've tried of there's over the last year has been gold for me. I had given up on them for a couple years after some uncomfortable experiences with the Gel-Nimbus line. However, I gave the Metaspeed Sky Paris a chance and have fallen in love. I've went on a couple of short runs with these (just got them) and so far I find them exciting and fun to run in. They feel very springy (great energy return), light and fast. I am a hybrid athlete (muscular build), so I don't really notice these being firm or harsh, so this should likely be taken into account for runners who carry more weight/muscle. It should be noted I'm. a forefoot striker and these seem to cater to that. I'm also a lifelong sprinter who has transitioned to more middle distance running, so I love shoes that feel fast under foot. I would say compared to something like the Endorphin Speed 3 (I don't have the 4), these would mop the floor with them. Then again the Speed 3 is one of the more disappointing shoes I've tried. I feel like the Superblast based on specs alone and where all the foam is distributed is better suited for mid foot to heel strikers, therefore I haven't been able to pull the trigger on them. Thank you for your review and honest insight. I actually think Brooks has done some good things as well but nobody seems willing to give them the credit for their changes, so I applaud you for that.
Also the world needs a 4” short. People got used to short shorts so 5” feels conservative now but 3” is still too short if I might see anyone I actually know.
Just purchased the Magic Speed 4 and went out for 1 hour, not sure on these 😢. Coming for shift 3 love the cushion but wanted a shoe with more pep for long runs, MS4 feels hard. What’s yours thoughts ? Love your channel
Thanks for the kind words! I agree the foam of the magic speed 4 is a little odd. I've been testing the SC Trainer v3 recently and it's a great replacement for the shift 3 if you want a long run shoe with more pep. Another good option would be the puma deviate nitro 3 - bouncy and fun with lots of cushion underfoot. And if you don't want a plated shoe I'd check out novablast 4. It's not the bounciest but it has the same stability and slight pep of the shift 3
Nice review. How would you compare this to the Boston 12. For a bigger runner that put more force and heel strikes. Is the Boston more stable or perhaps the Hyperion max. Thanks mate

I swear that the MS4 shoe is just a decoy that Asics uses to steer more customers towards the more expensive Superblasts or even the Metaspeeds. On the other hand, the Novablast line is a legit deal. Sneaky Asics.
The rules were you got a 20 second head start for every donut you ate. Connor and Drew ate 8 and 9 donuts so they got a big head start and I couldn't catch up 😩
I have the magic speed 4 and Superblast 2. Unless you’re running on trails, all you need for a marathon build is these two shoes. Magic Speed 4 for fast days, superblast for everything else…. And of course a super shoe for race day.
dont like the shoe. Its alright, but the idea of the trampolin ff turbo insert just doesnt work. The S4 did it brilliantly, by having a full layer of FF turbo, and no matter you footshape and running style, it worked. The magic speed 4, just like a novablast, requires you, because of how the trampolin works, to hit the ground in a very specific way almost. Like it works for my right foot and striking, but on the left, i just cant get anything out of the trampolin. same with the novablast.
Funny. I totally disagree. The magic speed 4 is much more cushoned then the 3, very soft feel just like the Endorphin Speed 4. But for me with a much more comfortable upper and heel. But.. 1.75m 80kg runner here! Maybe thats the difference.

The Superblast will work for you still imo. You can run comfortably on the forefoot.

Agree. I tried some 3” shorts and didn’t like them. Nike’s got some nice 4” shorts. The Run Division Stride or the Aeroswift ones.
Next would be the superblast 2 maybe? I have it and I think you’ll like it more than v1 based on the updates
