- Imagine the chilliest, most relaxed, resource management game with a good message - that's Terra Nil.
Learn more about Terra Nil here: www.terranil.com/
Terra Nil is a game about transforming a barren, lifeless landscape into a thriving, vibrant ecosystem. Turn dead soil into fertile grassland, clean polluted oceans, plant sprawling forests, and create the ideal habitat for animals to call home. Then recycle your buildings and leave no trace that you were there. Reclaim the wasteland.

It's also out on GOG.
Thank you.
Added it to my wish list.
I can't believe he didn't put that out too, he was the only one who ever promoted CD Projek back when.
That's what I came here to say. Thanks for beating me to it!
I appreciate you Jesse 😊
I appreciate YOU!
Can't recommend this game enough, such a great stress release after a hard days work
It really is like the supreme chill destress game
The concept of trying to revitalize and bring everything back to "zero" human interaction is such a nice change of pace. A lot of games, whether intentionally or not, really focus on that like "expansionism" mindset so this is really refreshing.
I remember this game getting a demo a while back and picking it up, and I really enjoyed it but unfortunately kinda forgot about it, so i'm glad to see that it's REALLY become an amazing game
I always feel some kind of comfort when I watch your videos.
Thank you so much for the hundreds of hours of fun over the years :))
Thank YOU for watching for long
This game is such a delight. It's so..... Wholesome and idealistic. I really get the feeling that this isn't just a "Make environment and look at pretty things." as it is about appreciating what we already have.
These are the same people who made BroForce. The duality of humankind I'm excited to play this
The concept reminded me somewhat about one of my absolute favorite city builders: "Surviving Mars" - here with the "Green Planet" DLC in particular.
Vastly different games in execution, but the DLC for "Surviving Mars" actually scratches a slightly similar itch, in that it has you terraforming Mars into what amounts to a second earth - just with less pollution.
This is a great game, despite how short it is. I can't remember if Jesse was the one who said it, but I remember watching a video essay a while back that discussed this very issue: "we have so many city builders, algorithm-makers, civilization-sustaining strategy sims. We have literal years of content on the practice of colonizing a pristine ecosystem, but whether you learn to balance nature and technological utopia in Cities: Skylines or you drain the planet of its every last resource in Frostpunk, there's not a single game that begs the question: 'what would it look like for nature to fully reclaim this hungry beast called human creation?'" While this game isn't a perfect solution--by its nature, it's all about humans using their technology to restore the land instead of it revitalizing on its own--I can't help but echo Jesse' s sentiments that this is a hopeful game. Maybe one day we'll get to see a scenario where mother nature can reverse what we've done to it. Whether it's in a video game or side-by-side with humanity or witnessed by the dregs of some long-since civilization, I look forward to the day when the planet can heal the scars we've inflicted upon it.
3:54 Enjoying the doubled headed Polar Bear watching the Penguins XD
I wishlisted this game as soon as I saw the first trailer, and immediately fell in love with the chill vibes. Thanks for the review and hard work, Cox and crew!
Glad to see they've expanded the content from the demo. It was wonderfully chill even then. Good review!
Game length is definitly one of this games shortcomings, i cleared all objectives in each biome on the first try. The alternative maps did give me alot more challange though, some taking several restarts to get to the next phase of reclamation.
But the game, as Jesse said several times, is very chill, which lets you think through each step and appriciating the nature that you help get back once you succeed. Def recommend it!
I really like the format of these indie review videos. I hope to see more in the future 👍
It's an amazing game! I played the demo for nearly 10 hours on repeat. So exited to get into the full game!
When I saw the demo on steam almost a year ago, I played it, and immediately fell in love.
From bleak wastes to bustling wilds, Terra Nil heals the landscape and soothes the soul.
The Terran Nil Prototype from two years ago or so was a blast to play through as well.
I'm so happy that Terra Nil is finally out. I downloaded the demo every single time we had a Steam Fest, and played it about a dozen times. Great game
Guys, it's been years.
Let's get Jesse to 1 million already.
What a fun format! Fits very well, always love Dan Tan animations.
As always, Jesse makes the best review content
I've been under this game's charm since Free Lives released the demo last September. It's great to finally be able to enjoy all the various climates with their different hurdles and combinations. So glad to have Jesse boost it even further, it may not need it but it's certainly appreciated =D
I saw this game in my Recommends. Thanks to this review it's now in my cart.
Great video, hope to see more in the future
This looks like my kind of jam. I'll make a note to put it on my wishlist for when I'm properly employed again.
This is a really helpful review. I plopped this game into my wishlist a long time back but I have a hard time deciding whether to pull the trigger unless I can see people interact with the game or talk about it. Thanks for reminding me to saunter over to the wishlist!
This sounds cathartic when things feel so dire. Picking it up today, thank you Jesse ❤
Great review Jesse! Need to take a look at this game for chill playing
This game looks 100% like I'll love playing it over and over.
What a wonderful concept !
Thank you for introducing us to it :)
Played it back when it was in a demo form in the previous Steam fest. Seemed like it would be a great chill game. I'll be picking it up when I have some time to play it.
I feel like calling this a city builder is false marketing, because it absolutely isn't. Just like Jessie mentions, its a puzzle game. Nothing more, nothing less. That doesn't make it a bad game, just not what they claim it is.
If they wanted a city builder, they could have gone for Solar Punk where you make a civilization that lives in harmony with nature, the same idea but with the actual city builder aspect.
i've had this on my wishlist since it was added to steam and i'm SO glad to get a look at it. thanks jesse!
I know these are not the most popular videos, but man, I love me some recommendation of "currently out, not super known, good, A-AA " games.
I also just found out that this game is on mobile, so I will definitely get it there. Thanks Jesse!
The first thing that came in mind when i saw the game was that it resembles the idea of an old SNES game called Terranigma. The whole world resurrection theme is kinda the same. Anyway, great game to pass some hours. Recommended!
I really like the idea of there being a first person game like this, of restoring a planet that was devastated. This one looks great, but a first person one where you can walk around the environments would be my kind of speed.
I often have ideas about games like this and I was surprised to see it happen, Imagine games that helps people learn/get interested into things like this, they can be easy or more in depth and maybe even be useful applications for real life use
Leaving you with a feeling of wanting more is definitely a mark of a good video game.
A strong contender for my game of the year so far. Jesse hit the nail on the head, the only problem with Terra Nil is that there's not enough of it. If the devs _(Really? The Broforce guys?)_ ever decide to produce some DLC for this I'll happily gobble it up.
Jesse Cox always had a 'I like this guy but I don't care for his individual content' spot in my life. But here we are all these years later and of his contemporaries (save for TB) he is the only person in his circle whose videos I watch regularly.
I tried to resist the call of the Cox but after a long hard fight, I had to tap out and dig in.
The Ecoterrorist unit from Civ: Call to Power is still one of my favorite strategy units. It's a nuke, but instead of wiping out a city and replacing it with radiation, it replaces it with a grassland tile. What's not to like?
Good that it keeps the question "viable for what?" open. Wastelands are not completely dead, at least on Earth.
reminds me a bit of "Sim Earth", which was a great game I would like to see a re-release of!
Honestly Jesse tends to point me to games I play at near addictive levels… thank-darn-you?
I NEED to see Jesse play "Don't Feed the Monkeys"
I think he would enjoy it
Thanks for the review! Saw it on steam and was considering it, but I wanted some more info before purchasing. So this video was perfect.
2:36 we all know that Jesse really wants an oceanic biome that lets you build a home for sharks 😂
I don't normally buy games at full price, but when you said that the devs were donating a cut of the game sales to charity, I went and bought at full price. Both to support the devs for making such a chill game, but also to make the charity cut larger. This kind of "make a great game, but also help a good cause" is worth the extra cost. Then I went and played almost 3 hours late at night when I need to be up early. Its just such a cool game.
I saw someone playing this a while back - it's not the kind of game for me, but it looks cool for folks enjoying the builder genre of games
yea if anything this game is more like, feel good solitaire, that a proper city builder.
Love it.
For a long time i replayed this Minecraft mod called "Regrowth" that starts you a dead world to do a very similar thing but thats long since been abandoned and broken by updates and i wanted something with this similar vibe of like "what if zerg creep and scourge blight but not evil?" as you restore a biome rather than destroy it. My only complaint is i want more. Be it updates, dlc or straight up a bigger sequel i think the idea has legs for more than just a one and done release.
I hope my 2011 laptop can run this :p the game looks exactly like what I've been craving lately
More indie reviews please!
I was so excited to play this chill game, and then 1st level just didn’t give me the topography to get bears and the 2nd I kept missing the monorails and I got frustrated and quit
They should definitely release this on switch. The cosy Dutch community would love it
Oh my gosh I was so curious about this! It looks so pretty! I don’t have the money for it now but this looks exactly like something I want to buy in the future!
Thank you for these reviews. Really helps me discover new games like this!
my buddy just sent this to me, i've never heard of it before but the visuals are STUNNING and the concept is so overwhelmingly appealing. i will buy the shit out of this whenever it goes live.
not me just finding out it's already on my wishlist on steam
sheesh
Totally going to get this!
No joke: I have compleated every single objective on every single map in a single playthrough of that map on medium difficulty. It is possible.
Interesting. Not exactly the game I'm looking for right now, but nice. Also, more videos like this please!
Just bought this because of you Jesse!
Omg thank you for this review-I am sold, buying it now 😮❤😊
this game looks interesting. im not a city builder type of person but im really wanting to give this a look
Yes, yes yes. Carry on TBs legacy, Jessie. Love you man.
Fantastic review!
Really looking forward to play the game.
I've heard lots of great stuff about Terra Nil! Might need to check it out.
I played this one when the demo came out, and watched Dodger play. It was feally cool but felt a bit lackluster, maybe was just the demo. I might give it another chance.
Love the content ❤
I'd love a super hard core mode on an alien planet with randomized rules and variables where you slowly research what makes the planet tick and try to reclaim it for nature
Going green with Jesse
I want a game that is a cross over of this, no man sky, and mechwarrior lol.
Kinda glad the company moved on from Genital Jousting to more... positive and less juvenile things like this, which I've seen on the indie circuit a bit and thus am VERY glad Jesse's giving it a shout out as well. Though I wouldn't be against another Bro Force. Sometimes juvenile can be fun. Just... lines, yanno? This, though... is very chill, super interesting, and very open on *how* you get to where you need to go. And weirdly deep.
i played the demo for this and really enjoyed it
Great work Jesse
Awesome review. Mate you've been on 994k subs for who knows how long. Has youtube locked your sub count or something random?
Good video Jesse, keep up the good work.
you can obviously replay this as many times as you like & the maps do change a bit every time, however i will have to say that it has limited content (jesse felt the same) and some stuff can only be done in a single method which really hampers creativity
for the current asking price i feel there should have been more content & i think the game design should offer more liberty, at least after the journey mode is completed.
I would like to see maps with mixed biomes for example
I loved the game, a bit expensive for being so short but I do enjoyed every bit I spend playing it.
Gonna go buy this. You hear that, game companies? Jesse is a persuasive influencer!
This game looks very relaxing, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
i saw this game 2 years ago and got it for 5 quid while a prototype, played the hell out of it, interested to see what they added
What an interesting looking game. Looks very chill
Thank you. I might not have learned about it except for your video.
More indie reviews!
I didn't know about the donation thing. I'm definitely going to pick it up now.
Jesse and Terra Nil have a lot in common. Jesse is always great, but particularly when you're on some grass. If you know what I'm saying 😂😂
Totally agree with this. Played the demo quite a bit and loved it, so I hopped on when it released.
It's a genuinely enjoyable, relaxing "city builder". A little more involved than some relaxation games, so you still have to put in a little thought, but it's not *super* demanding.
It's also weirdly emotional seeing the wasteland come back.
Only real complaints are that it's A) too short (It took me about 3 hours to get through the 4 biomes the first time, and about 4 to get through them again on the harder mode), and there are sometimes annoying situations where you need like one more tile of something and you just can't get it.
Altogether though, it's a ton of fun.
Really like these indie reviews. Have you checked out Dredge?
always loved your videos Jesse, especially fan Fridays and game dev tycoon! Long live Steve Jobless
That double headed polar bear though.
Honestly the idea of terraformign an area back into life and then removing all presence of myself from the area tickles me in a way I don't quite understand but still want to experience.
This does seem like a very chill, relaxing game.
Awesome review.
This sounds awesome. Thanks!
within a day of seeing this video, i have 100%ed the game. I agree with jesse's sentiment, the only problem is that there isn't enough of it. hope there'll be some dlc in the future!
I'm playing this on Android with my netflix subscription. The maps are a bit small got my liking but I loved what I've played so far
I need to buy this game
Thanks for shining a light on indie titles :D
This sounds so good! ❤
The thing people NEED to understand is that this is more a puzzle game. It isn't a builder.
You need to use limited resources to try and improve the world.
This game looks awesome and I could use soon chill
This is definitely one that's going on my list.
