    Hi, just sharing my thoughts on Inktense -- I get great results if I dry each layer of inktense before applying another. Wet in wet makes the colors mush into a sort of blob. I find that streaks disappear when more layers are applied. And each layer when applied in a certain ink like consistency, gives a translucent effect. And it does look a little more matte than watercolors. I think u could perhaps try Inktense one more time . And if u r going to make prints of your projects, then certainly Inktense would be best. Happy Holidays to you, too !!

      Hi! Definitely agree... not a fan of the wet in wet method with Inktense forsure.. but I do like the matte finish! I might try it again with the white block instead of gouache to see if that works 😊 Thanks so much for watching! Merry Christmas 🎄

    I agree! Use black, I can understand using it sparingly, depending on the subject. Blacks and white bring contrast. I tend to use inktense for children's illustration type stuff. I'm inspired to try muting it out next time.

    I love inktense. Try using the pencils directly on the paper, then use a moist brush to “paint”.

    Hi. Thanks for this. I'm thinking I'll try using Inktense as a base layer so that is isn't affected by water colour layers on top! 👍

    hi kelli what I know of the color black the art world would say that all artist when using black you have create your own because if you use the black out of the tube it looks kind of muddy but if you mix ultra marine blue with burnt umber you will get a rich black but to me I use black out of the tube still but I might say that mixing black it does look a bit better when it mixed but not a lot of big deal yes kelli use your black out of the tube with pride I am with you and for the inktense vs watercolor yeah I stick to the watercolor merry christmas

    • @KelliPaints
      @KelliPaints  5 років тому +1

      I definitely will!! I really enjoy black out of the tube 😂 I glaze other colors with it so that counts right? Thanks I do like the watercolor as well, hope you had a great Christmas!

    That was really interesting, like you I was surprised with how the inktense dried so smooth. I liked the texture and definition in the watercolour one best. My wonderful prize from inktober arrived the other day so thank you so much, now I just have to find time to frame them and hang them. Have a great Christmas and New Year, keep safe cya next year 🦌🌲🎅🥂☃️

    This is a great tutorial Kelli! I was wondering how the inktense behaved for watercolouring. I like both, but the Inktense is duller with very little depth like we expect with a water colour. I would use the watercolours for your project for more depth and definition..but a redo of the Inktense just to see how it turns out with less water. Merry Xmas to you and family and a Happy New Year! 🎄🎅🎉💖💖

    I see that someone commented a couple months ago and im just now seeing this. Looking at rhem both finished I love them both! The inktense are more moody and dark the Windsor lighter and brighter. I have a big set of Inktense sticks and use them from time to time but not very skilled with them. Thanks for sharing. Oh- I Iove alot of DS paints but i dont like the price. I have a few tho.😂🥰

    A really interesting experiment 😊. I have to say the watercolor did produce a more impressive effect than the inktense. I'll bet you get different effects with different surfaces but I can see why the watercolor is a better choice. Thank you!

    when you say the Daniel smith are more pigmented compered to winsor and newton do you mean the cotman or the professional line? Because cotman is the student line. It'd be nice to know between the two Daniel smith and winsor and newton professional line which is more pigmented?

    • @KelliPaints
      @KelliPaints  10 місяців тому +1

      I did have the cotman line, I thought I mentioned that. Sorry this is one of my older videos and was forgetting to include all of the necessary info. I havent tried the winsor and newton professional line yet. If your trying to decide which one to get it might be a good idea to get one of the same color of each brand and maybe go from there. Daniel smith has quite a few colors that granulate more then other brands and I prefer the texture of Daniel Smith.
