Before traveling, it might be most important to build you strength and walking endurance. Loosing weight is good too, but gasping for breath after hauling your luggage or climbing a castle tower is seriously not fun. Make your endurance a top priority so you will enjoy the trip!
Intermittent Fasting is the only way I finally lost 10 pounds at 76 years old. Jason Fung, MD has great UA-cams on the subject! I have breakfast roughly at 10 am and dinner at 5 pm. You CAN do it if you make up your mind…😊 You are so enjoyable and entertaining!
Yes! We love Dr Fung! Knowing a real doctor, not some pseudo-medico youtuber endorsed intermittent fasting convinced my husband and I to try it. Hubby lost 50 pounds. I didnt have much to lose, but I went from a size 10 pants to a size 4.
Tim,my husband and I are both 70. It's tough losing weight at our age however I'll tell you what finally worked for me. I lost 50 pounds on a medically supervised diet which was essentially this : LEAN protein, mainly poultry and fish, any vegetables minus really starchy ones, no carbs- nothing white (rice, potatoes flour,SUGAR) or any processed foods. I could eat as much as I wanted, whenever I was hungry!!! That's why it worked for me. Once the sugar was out of my system I didn't CRAVE anything!! Blood pressure and blood sugar back to normal!! Now,once a week I'll have one small treat if I'm missing it. My husband has always been super fit, never craved sugar but had a triple bypass 5 years ago. He has since cut out red meat and cheese, cardiologist's orders! Have a great time in Scotland! Best of luck with your weight loss journey!! I really enjoy your channel!
Just my opinion, but I do not think any diet that focuses on only one food type is healthy. Many will disagree and that's ok, just don't be mean; we are all different. I eat pretty much like you Teagarden, and that has enabled me to control blood sugar (T2D) and control blood pressure. Like you, I do not crave anything, but might have one small cookie on occasion and sometimes a small piece of potato. I'm 78 and I figure at this stage of life, whatever works is fine - I'm healthy. Just for info, husband is 82, hates anything green (but will eat broccoli and Brussels sprouts), loves sweets and eats plenty of those, and is not super fond of beef. He's healthy too. So, go figure.
It is hard to see you so focused on your weight. You are such an interesting, couragous person that has so much to offer. Know that you are just right as you are.😊
I think the key is to find what works for you and what you like to do. I am a senior and had a 2 year illness and struggled to gain strength again. I went to physical therapy and a medical exercise program which help me get started. The biggest thing I learned was to pace myself and it was the key. I used to get up in the morning and do everything and then drop into my chair for the rest of the day and night. Now I set the alarm on my phone and never sit for more than an hour at a time. I also found that I don't like Any exercise but I like to work. I can paint my house, rake leaves, remodel houses, garden and do canning etc. Be honest with yourself, maybe you don't want to go to the Y, it sounds boring. What do you like? Fad diets don't work for me, but three meals a day and keeping trigger foods out of my house is the key. Don't buy the cheese, you can't eat it if it's not in your house.
People can be mean behind their keyboards that they wouldn’t say to a person’s face. With that said, we all have things we can do better and I’m sure that person can too. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to work on things like eating and clutter that inspire us to do better as well. It’s a journey toward health for us all. Thanks for your transparency! Keep up the good work! Enjoy your trip with your family.
Tim, as I listen to your video, I am struck by the deprivation mindset you are projecting. It’s easy to know the “shoulds” but wouldn’t it be interesting to look at what is missing in your life that food is filling? It seems like you’ve been through a lot of transition and building your new life which is huge and there may be some voids that need to be addressed that possibly you address with food. Is what you weigh is a reflection of what is weighing you down? So maybe focusing on the food, is the wrong approach? Why are you bored in the evening? Are you missing some social or emotional connection in your life? Self-care is much easier when we deal with our stuff. Just a thought. Go gentle and be kind to yourself.
I was thinking about how a recent retirement would mean changes in habits throughout the day. Transitions good or bad are a stressor mentally and physically.
Brisk walking in late afternoon has helped me tremendously. Sometimes I meet interesting people. Sometimes it’s just fresh air and moving muscles and joints. I get home feeling refreshed and less anxious or bored.
My Mother was always on a diet (when I was a kid in the '60s-'70s), worked for a little while, and then hit a plateau. Life is meant to be lived, enjoy life in moderation. Good Luck. Edit: I meant to say, we loved her for who she was.
My routine is get up, drink ~16 oz water, wash up, get dressed for the day, walk for 10-40 minutes, depending on weather and my schedule, eat breakfast. Also try to take more walks during the day. Don't worry about the time. Just concentrate on whatever you can. You can do it! Enjoy your walks! I applaud you for cleaning out your refrigerator!
Thanks for your videos. I walk in the dark wearing a reflective vest from the hardware store, the kind used on the job. Cheap and effective for those of us with dark clothes. Also a flashlight of course. Thanks again. Happy Travels.
I thank you for making these videos. We are there to support you and each other. I’m 62 and I need to be better for myself and my family. You are a real person.
The secret for me was omitting gluten and sugar from my diet. I was raised on homemade desserts so that was a hard one, but I was so unhappy with my appearance that it really wasn’t difficult to make these changes. I did that about five years ago. About two years ago I added IF. I don’t eat until 11:00 am or after. That was only difficult for 2 or 3 weeks. It didn’t take long after going almost gluten free that I saw results. That was so encouraging for me that it was easy to keep going. I lost about 25 pounds relatively quickly. Of course there are more details to my story, but this is really the formula that I follow and it’s worked for me.
I understand the struggle. One piece of advice? From one ketovore/carnivore to another… Don’t count NET carbs, count all carbs. The processed "Keto” Foods have alot of carbs. If you change the focus then you’ll find you don’t want those foods in your life. I believe you can do anything for 30 days. I’m here for you!
I am T2D and from the very beginning, my endocrinologist told me that there is no such thing as net carbs. Carbs are carbs - you are right. I'm not going to listen to those who disagree with me. Eat cake and Metamucil if you want - you will gain weight.
I have been doing IF the last two years. I started with 16/8 but now it’s 20/4. At my age (70) I don’t like eating a lot (especially late in the day). I gave up mimosas after a health scare in 2021. I am at my ideal weight and feel great. I hike every morning with my husband and dog (my dog forces me outside). My only vice is pasta & bread. This year’s goal is to eat more salads and completely eliminate refined carbs (even though I don’t eat much). Good luck to you losing 5 pounds before your trip
I've lost 90 lbs on carnivore (with an occasional serving of keto veggies) and I'm still losing (25 lbs to go). Beyond any shadow of a doubt, the hardest part was mental. I am an emotional eater and boredom is an emotion. I reached a point where I stalled for over a year and wasn't losing anything until I was able to redirect myself to things other than food, to cope with boredom and other emotions.
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! Your struggle and weight loss story is so familiar. Me, and millions of others are doing, and feeling the same thing. I retired 2 1/2 years ago and have enjoyed my time away from work, but I don't have the work routine that helped me plan my eating, not to mention losing my work social network. I try to focus on Today, not beating myself up for yesterday, and not putting too much pressure on me to hit a target tomorrow. We do the best we can, with the stuff we have to deal with, and give yourself some grace. Hats off to you for making the effort and sharing your story. New subscriber and enjoy your videos.
Don’t say you want to ‘loose’ weight say you are ‘releasing’ weight. Whatever we loose we want to find again. Your determination will see you succeed. Mary, Joes wife 👏💪👍🙏💐
You can do this Tim. Getting rid of anything that triggers snacking is the key., along with eating enough fat. Wishing you success. I’m a carb addict and have been struggling since the Holidays. I cut it all out and went carnivore 2 weeks ago(I’ve been practicing keto for 5 years with the exception of slip ups from time to time) My lethargy is gone, my head is clear and I have more energy. I even went out and bought a rebounder which I love. I don’t need to lose weight but I need strength, build up my core and gain muscle. At 65 I need it. 😊
A very honest video there Tim. Walking more does help and gentle. Do you have a pool near you, swimming regularly doesn’t stress your joints. In the evenings maybe plan an activity that uses your hands? In your darkroom, cards, jigsaw’s, painting? When I’m occupied with knitting or patchwork I don’t want snackie hands! Watching television or YT leaves your hands free to snack, occupy them! Good luck to you. Don’t forget our portion sizes are smaller in the UK! That may help with no gaining 😊 PS you’ve inspired me to take my own advice ta😂
I applaud you for doing this (and on camera)! Only thing id like to add is , i wouldnt focus so much on your weight when you are on vacation. It would distract you from enjoying your experience. Thats just my thought. 😊Hope you have a wonderful trip next month.
Something broke my heart.😢 I grew up poor and know the poverty of the inability to buy cheeses etc. If you are tossing good foods into the trash why not offer to someone who cannot afford cheeses. Does your mom have a housekeeper or cleaner? Who mows your yard? There probably is a family nearby that might enjoy all that good food you tossed out. Thank you for considering the working poor.
I’m 56, and I have been helping 4 people who are in their 80’s for the last 2 years. The ones who are in the best shape physically, and mentally are the ones who eat a very varied diet, small portions, have an occasional adult beverage, go to the doctor for everything that is wrong, and, they still exercise as much as they feel they can. They are always telling me about this class for seniors they used to take at our rec center. So I’d suggest, put an hour on your calendar, 3 days a week, to do something physical. Even if it’s just to walk around your neighborhood, at a pace faster than casual walking. By the time you get to Scotland, your body will appreciate the effort you put in now. Schedule it, like it’s a part of your job. Put your walking shoes by the door so it’s easy to slip them on and go. Don’t think of it as exercise. Think of it as scoping out scenes for an upcoming photo shoot. Listen to a favorite podcast or UA-camr. Use the time to accomplish two things. Your health, and a show you would be listening to anyway. I can’t wait to hear about Scotland!
I applaud you! As a fellow carnivore I have been tripped up by all the things you mention. Snacking, dairy, eating outside my IF window and just plain eating too much meat!. The struggle is real and I admire you for taking a stand. I would also mention that for many people, we need a "why". For me that is wanting to keep my limbs, eyesight, other senses and mainly my mental faculties. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing someone my age, I am 71, dealing with dementia but healthy otherwise. I truly believe that carnivore can help keep us mentally sharp as well physically in shape. Kudos for the accountability. From experience accountability is so important in keeping on track.
Oh boy! I relate to so much in this video... I was on a keto diet maybe a year and a half ago. I lost 25 pounds! And then at my doctor visit, I was told that this diet was a bad fit for me because of my thyroid. Well.... I am back up to 205 pounds again. So I tried intermittent fasting. I would have coffee in the morning and eat my first meal at noon. Then dinner in the evening. Well, that crashed and burned during an extremely stressful year last year. The only thing I was able to stick to was not eating until noon. But really, with the stress eating during those 8 hours and not exercising, that does not work for losing weight. We retired about 3 months ago and I have plenty of time to get my act together, but have not. We are in Maui now taking a long awaited retirement trip and my legs sure are feeling it. I will be following this journey with you and for myself.
Hi, Tim! Oh, the cheese...I have also wrestled with cheese/dairy. I've been carnivore since April 1, 2023. I've kept notes each month so that I knew which changes I made along the way and what the effect (i.e. weight loss) was for that month. Most months I lost between 2 and 8 pounds. In October, I lost 11 lbs. ! What I notated about October was I walked 6 days per week for 30 min., consumed no cheese and ate only one, very large meal per day. Carnivore solved many problems for me, the least of which is my weight. As I loose the weight, it is slowing down, but carnivore works for me and I hope you'll continue to do whatever works for you! Have a lovely day, Tim!
@@TheNewRetiredMe Same here. I tried one meal a day…but because I’m also working on portion control as a habit change I can take anywhere, I had go back to two meals at least. If they are small meals, then maybe I can throw in a snack.
@@TheNewRetiredMe I honestly prefer OMAD. It's less work for me but the trick is I have to keep myself very busy or I am tempted to eat. It was REALLY hard to stop the snacking and I know I snack only out of boredom...sigh
Thanks for being so transparent (as you always are). In the past I found that not eating after a specific time of day works well for me (not currently following that lol). Also 10,000 steps a day makes me feel good! We all need to do what works for us.
I know I want to snack. I have nuts everywhere, especially peanuts roasted without oil. Then I have a silikon popcorn maker for the microwave. No butter, no sugar and a lot of fibres. Also very very dark chocolat, because it is healthy. No soft drinks. Dried fruits, sometime they are very expensive.
I tried intermittent fasting and the only way I could do it was to eat a high protein breakfast, skip lunch and eat dinner about 6pm. I found making certain daily foods mandatory no matter what else I ate, seemed to work. Example, everyday a handful of spinach and handful of broccoli. It is about adding good stuff rather than punishing yourself with restriction. You can still have cheese, just not everyday. Give yourself a one day I can eat cheese day. If you do eliminate dairy, you are going to have to get calcium other places as strong bones are very important especially over 50. The making rules and throwing away food is setting yourself up for your teenage self to rebel. Lean into health Not all or nothing.
Hi, Tim -- This is the vegetarian, (new) intermittent faster (almost 70 and still working a high stress job) with an update. I started not eating after 5:00 PM on December 26th. I eat a plant-based diet (healthy fat 'n veggies, which includes goat cheese) and cannot believe the difference. I have gone from convex to concave and the brain is sharp and I move and think better and faster. I'm more impressed with that even than with the weight loss. I don't stress if it goes to 9 hours from first to last calorie instead of 8, and I am so productive in the evenings without that 3rd meal it's unbelievable. It's probably not for everybody, but it's amazing for me. I only made this one change so far. Good luck with your goals!
Stop focusing on what you are doing wrong! You are doing so many things right!! You are an inspiration to me! I watch your videos, and they make me feel calm. Shine your light, do it again and again. You need to enjoy life, do you! ❤❤❤
Tim, I hate that elephant! Lol. You're fridge clean out was painful. So inspired by your resolve on getting rid of the gut. The snack attacks at night are something that I often struggle with along with that darn love of cheese. I've recently found a great little gym that offers swim classes, and all kinds of related gym and yoga, balance, etc. The pool is heavenly on the joints as it's salt water. I'm finding the more I exercise, especially in the pool, the more I'm not craving the food. Cheers and prayers for you to get to your goal and more before the big trip. 🙏
Do you feel healthy and have good energy? Walk and water. Can't go wrong with either of those. However, there are more weight loss suggestions for you than you have pounds. Continue to be active. That is your primary key. You will be surprised what movement will do for you and not just in weight loss. It is a lifestyle change you are looking for not a diet. Eat healthy. If you like cheese then make it a weekly treat. I lost 60 pounds just moving and eating better, and it has stayed off. Took me almost 2yrs but I did it. My food changes were, no processed food, no sugar (or very very little) and no refined carbs (muffins, donuts, bread). Good luck!
I don't think you're fat...just a big man...but only you know what you should do...wishing you well...take care of yourself...it is easy to snack in the winter time...you are a great guy...it is cold outside to be exercising...yes, we do love you, Mr. Tim...you should pass the food to someone that could use it...you must not waste food, TIM...
Bravo! Respect! Now you are committed and good to continue on your metabolic health! I buy clean HWC only with no carbs; then dilute it with enough water to my liking to add to coffee or tea. My one carnivore sin is half caf coffee. Good luck!
Dude you got this! You are your own best council ! It's a work in progress. Been at the carnivore thing myself for 6 months. You made me smile about the cheese, I get it! And the exercise. I do stick with just whole foods. All those processed foods are junk. I eat bacon and eggs for late breakfast then chops, steaks, or fish around 4 - 5 pm. The snacking thing is just a habit. I'm sure you will loose weight on vacation with all the activities. Carry on sir!
One thing I learned about losing weight is not to diet. At 71 I eat whatever I want, but I have to watch the salt. I just started drinking more water. I've lost 66 lbs. from my highest weight. The more I would worry about my weight the more I gained, so now I don't worry about it. Dolly Parton once said she eats what she wants, but not so dang much of it. I follow that theory. I love cheese too, but don't eat it in excess. I quit alcohol over 20 years ago. I have an exercise bike that I use 10 minutes a day. I don't like exercise, mostly because of a bad back and hip. I hated to see you throw all that good stuff away. You look fine to me. Enjoy your trip.
I retired several years ago but it took a long time for me to realize that I no longer need to eat breakfast right when I get up since I have a much more leisurely morning. Now I have a cup of plain tea and it holds me over until around 11:00. It is a big enough meal to get me to dinner which I have around 6:00. Then I am done eating for the day by 7:00. I do usually have some kind of fruit in between the meals though. I’ve heard about IF for years now, but never thought I could do it without feeling hungry (and grouchy) all the time. But- so far- the 16/8 is working for me. I do like a glass of wine before dinner sometimes but- for now- I’m cutting that out completely. Eventually I’d like to come up with an allowance for it. Maybe open a bottle once every other month and have a glass each day until it’s gone. Of course, when I do eat out- which is not very often- I’ll stretch the “rules” a bit. I wish you the best of luck getting into a new routine.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Very many of us have the same weight issues or lack of self discipline. You are such a sweetheart. You are loved just how you are.
I never saw an elephant in the room but appreciate your honesty and transparency. I’m also a recent retiree x 10 months who has had many changes in my life. I’m working on a healthy lifestyle and believe that a little walking daily as the minimum rec is 150 minutes week along with reducing my portion size without total exclusion of anything helps me best. But you need to find out what works for you! Enjoy your travels next month and also this prep month now.
So food is a pleasure. I'm dismayed seeing you remove the dairy. I get it and I watch and love Dr. Berry. Instead of a TBS of cream in my coffee, I'm putting in half TBS. And I dance around in my office everyday to some awesome 80's tunes. And that is my compromise. You are a worthy, talented, and honest human. Hoping these changes work for you. You are more than okay! :)
Aw, you are amazing to face the music and try again. My daughter and I got carried away adding cheese, snacking (Although they were healthy snacks). After all our attempts to lose weight we are finally near our goal weights! We started by doing some IF and do IF once in a while if we feel like we need it. Everyone is different. It has been much easier and no starving. High intensity workouts did not work. We only walk or walk/run on a treadmill several times a week. If we are exhausted, we do not go. Being rested helps lose weight. For breakfast, we have several big spoonfuls of Greek yogurt ( can be a cup or so at times), a handful of blueberries, a healthy, granola or crunchy topping (it’s quite a good amount) and a large scoop of oatmeal, the kind of scoops you get in protein powder). We add cinnamon also. Sometimes we add pumpkin and pumpkin spice. It’s a delicious bowl full of goodness and it fills us up. Lately we have added egg white protein powder. For lunch we usually have a couple of toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Yes, you heard that right. :-) We use natural peanut butter, organic jelly, or jam. And Dave’s bread. We only use two types of Dave’s bread that does not have canola oil in it. The grain and seeds just help pull everything through. It does not put weight on, the Greek yogurt is putting a lot of bacteria our system to help digest what we eat during the day. We have generous servings for breakfast and lunch. We cut out snacks because eating this food satisfies us with nutrients. We are not hungry. At night we usually have meat with herbs on it and a salad. We are so full, it’s amazing because we love to eat! The biggest change was eating dinner by 5:00pm and not snacking after. It is so much easier than we thought. So if this helps anybody out, we are happy to help encourage anyone to try it.
I’ve had quite the weight loss journey with gastric bypass in 2002. More importantly I went to therapy for food addiction. My problem is from the neck up. I made peace with my past and my weight went from 353 to 128. Talk therapy might help. ❤
Fellow struggler here! Nothing was working-due to being old, slow metabolism, can’t walk due to leg surgery for a while, other boring health stuff, etc-so last ditch effort-removed ALL dairy 😭back in December and lost 13 pounds in a month-wth!!! Hope it’s the key for you too-good luck!!
I lost 5 pounds just leaving cream out of my life, for good. I would bet you are going to be totally happy with your decision. Thank you for taking to time to share just tossing all that food, HUGE!
To me, half of the problem, is recognizing the problem.....and you do! That's the great news. You have a new plan and you can do this! A short term goal is a great start! Over the last year (yes, I'm 68) I have learned that almost ALL of the battle is in our mind. I have had to have many, many conversations with myself about not eating such and such, not eating when I'm not hungry, not licking my finger with the cake batter, only eating during my two hour window, etc etc. You CAN do this! I have also learned over time that we ARE a stubborn people - just get stubborn(er!) You got this!!
Tim! We are twins! Here’s what I do and I lost 20lbs in about 3-4 months, 2 years ago! 1). No breakfast! I get ready for the day and I have to get busy! You should go on a walk! 2) I eat my first meal around 1-2pm Usually meat or eggs or bacon. I cheat and put a “very little” shredded cheese in my eggs. I can’t help it! 3) Drink water instead of looking for food! I bought a Stanley 48oz tumbler with a straw. Put some ice in it. Tap water is boring! I finish the water by night. 4) 2nd and last meal by 7pm. More meat, salad with oil and vinegar and tiny cherry tomatoes. I love Chubby tomato’s and pieces of Red Peppers, tastier than green peppers. 🫑 only veggies! No croutons!! 5) In the beginning, I’d have 2 piece of Doves Dark Chocolate squares. (Before 9pm!) as a reward! But now they are too expensive! 6) Nothing more to eat until my first meal at around 1-2pm Not even one grape!! Drink water, instead! Why don’t you get an Ebike and go for rides! Yes, you do peddle eBikes! Use the throttle on hills! Going for a bike ride will become a great addiction! Instead of grazing on cheese. In the evenings, get on You Tube and watch videos to research which size and brand is good for you! I can give you help with all that!! This way of eating will give you results! I bet, after 4 days you will start feeling so much better and will start to love your new lifestyle! I did have headaches in the beginning, from giving up sugar (sodas for me), but they go away. Have you ever thought about getting an older, rescue dog? You’ll love walking your new best friend!! ❤ Once I got down to my ideal weight, I’d go out to have a good meal. Ex: On Wednesdays, Cracker Barrel has a Broccoli cheese casserole baked chicken dinner. The casserole is baked right on the chicken!! I’d get Green beans, broccoli or Carrots as my two sides, but no biscuits or corn bread!!! To help, I get my meals, to go and eat at home! You can see I had some things I shouldn’t have, but it still worked for me. After you see the success, you’ll want to eliminate the cheese in your eggs or chocolate squares, because you’ll want to. You have a goal and you can do those 5 pounds! Make yourself do this!! It can be done!! I did it!! You can, too!! I told myself I wanted to get fit, one more time in my life! I’ll be 73 in June! Good luck!!! 👍🏻 😊
Well, thank you for your honesty. I am right there with you, relatively speaking. I gained weight on carnivore - but I DID go on it for health reasons and WOW! It helped dramatically. And I've not stuck with it. I fell off during the holidays and have not gotten back on track yet. So you're inspiring me. Back to BBBE. I have never drank alcohol, but I raise my coffee mug to you; here's to our health.
Bless you that you still have your mom to talk to, hug her tightly and show them how much you care, I've lost both my parents and I long for their guidance and love!!
I’m with you! Your plan will work. I went full carnivore at the start of the year and did alternate day fasting all month, losing 19.5 pounds. I am continuing all of that but dropping dairy this month. I also haven’t had a drop of alcohol either, but I never would have poured it down the drain!😮 Good luck! You can do it!
The past few years have been hard on everyone. In my case, my weight crept up to an all time high of 199. I figured what the hell, let's make it 200. I couldn't do it! I was just miserable. I'm down to 159, took a year, intermittent fasting with carnivore-ish eating. Hubs and I love our sweets, that's my Achille's heel. I can fast like nothing 48,60 hours, break fast with protein and fats. But those sweets in the evening, watching tv. (I know!!!) We go on daily walks and I get many steps in the garden. I've embraced my forgetfulness in the garden as an opportunity to exercise. Dr Jamnadas has an excellent video explaining the finer points of what fasting does to the body. I just have that pesky part of my stupid, sneaky brain telling me to cheat with the sweets. I actually thought about attending a 12 step program to quit sugar.
I like IF 18:6 window 12:00pm-last meal before 6:00pm I don't miss breakfast and eat what I want although I try to do better with portion control. The winter is the hardest time of the year.
I appreciate your honesty about your weight struggles. I’m 62 and finding it so much more difficult. Used to be, I could just make a few changes for a week or so and lose 5 lbs. Now it’s so much more difficult! I keep telling myself (and ignoring, lol) to incorporate light weights into my life. We’ll see how that goes - sure can’t hurt! I’m also reducing cheese on my food but I don’t want to give up completely or I’ll just binge it later. Your trip sounds like a great motivation!
I stopped weighing myself. I even got rid of my scale. I go by how my clothes fit, if they are getting too tight then I eat less. When you get to your goal do not keep your bigger clothes, get rid of them asap. Having them in your home makes it to easy because in the back of your mind, you know you have something you could wear. In the future donate foods to a pantry or to a local Church. Some Churches will take even the refrigerated items. Good luck on your weight loss journey, You can do it!
I got down in my back back in October, and for three months ,I did very little except eat . I am not terribly over weight , but since 2020 ,I have put on 20 pounds. I talked to my doctor about losing weight. I told her I wanted to get down to 175 .I weigh 188 ,She told me to try and lose 8 pounds. I gave up diet Pepsi back in October and with that my taste for cheese as far as snacking. I do like a pizza ,every once in a while. I am trying to cut back on bread. In January , I got back on my rode bike. I have set a goal of 100 miles in February along with a modified diet.
Good luck Tim, I was where you are now just over a year ago. Cutting out alcohol, breads, pasta most dairy and with portion control, I was able to drop 35 pounds in 14 months. Now I’m at a comfortable weight and hope I can stay there. All the best Tim.
Thanks for this video. You really don't need to share with us unless you want to! My general observation is that we sometimes are pretty tough on ourselves and complicate things. I like Michael Pollan's approach to healthy eating: Eat Food. Not Too Much. Mostly Plants. And by food he means 'real' food, unprocessed if possible. I just love the simplicity. Also the saying: Eat Less, Move More. You do what works best for you, Tim, and wishing you all the best!
I did watch a documentary on amazon prime movies named "Beyond weight loss." It has helping me, I am slowly loosing but I am loosing weight and keeping it off. I have to say that intermittent fasting I believe its wrong. Keep up the good fight !
It's is one off life's great mysteries why some can eat all day and never gain an ounce and I can look at food and gain or so it seems. I have tried all the diets. But 2 weeks ago I started on this accountability thing and have started writing down ever bite of food I eat. Even if I eat it standing up, LOL. And to say the least I was shocked to see how much I was eating unconsciously. I now feel more in control and think twice before I take a bite that I have to write this down. So far so good and I am experiencing positive results. You got this! And I hope you achieve your goal, you have inspired me tremendously and I am grateful for you.
I have been trying to get in shape since 1950. I am now 75. I walk at least 2 miles every day. But, I have decided that round is a shape.
I love your comment 😊
❤
Lol! Love this comment! ❤
Just brilliant. lol
Before traveling, it might be most important to build you strength and walking endurance. Loosing weight is good too, but gasping for breath after hauling your luggage or climbing a castle tower is seriously not fun. Make your endurance a top priority so you will enjoy the trip!
😊
Two meals a day helps reduce caloric input without too much discomfort, and you don't need a UA-cam video for that.
👍💙💚
I ♥️♥️♥️ Dr. Fung!! I have learned so much from him including the benefits of intermittent fasting💥🫶✨
The struggle is real...thanks for your honesty.
SAME! ❤
❤
Wow teagarden, this sounds very similar to Save Your Life by Dr David Reuben. (1975ish)
Lynn here it’s just damn hard period !
💚💛
It is hard to see you so focused on your weight. You are such an interesting, couragous person that has so much to offer. Know that you are just right as you are.😊
💚👍
Almost 7 minutes in, and I have to stop the video to say thank you for your honesty.
❤
🥰☺
People can be mean behind their keyboards that they wouldn’t say to a person’s face. With that said, we all have things we can do better and I’m sure that person can too. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to work on things like eating and clutter that inspire us to do better as well. It’s a journey toward health for us all. Thanks for your transparency! Keep up the good work! Enjoy your trip with your family.
🧡❤
All great questions. I need to look more inward for sure.
Best comment here!
Ann, such an interesting observation.
I’m definitely going to take some of that on board, thanks 😊
My Mother was always on a diet (when I was a kid in the '60s-'70s), worked for a little while, and then hit a plateau. Life is meant to be lived, enjoy life in moderation. Good Luck.
Edit: I meant to say, we loved her for who she was.
❤
My routine is get up, drink ~16 oz water, wash up, get dressed for the day, walk for 10-40 minutes, depending on weather and my schedule, eat breakfast. Also try to take more walks during the day. Don't worry about the time. Just concentrate on whatever you can. You can do it! Enjoy your walks! I applaud you for cleaning out your refrigerator!
😊😊😊
Thanks for your videos. I walk in the dark wearing a reflective vest from the hardware store, the kind used on the job. Cheap and effective for those of us with dark clothes. Also a flashlight of course. Thanks again. Happy Travels.
☺
I thank you for making these videos.
We are there to support you and each other.
I’m 62 and I need to be better for myself and my family.
You are a real person.
💚💛
🙂
Wow!! Go you. And have a wonderful time in Scotland. 😁
🥰
That’s great advice! Thanks!
I am T2D and from the very beginning, my endocrinologist told me that there is no such thing as net carbs. Carbs are carbs - you are right. I'm not going to listen to those who disagree with me. Eat cake and Metamucil if you want - you will gain weight.
💚

☺🥰
I really like that distinction!
🥰🤗
You can do this Tim. Getting rid of anything that triggers snacking is the key., along with eating enough fat. Wishing you success.
I’m a carb addict and have been struggling since the Holidays. I cut it all out and went carnivore 2 weeks ago(I’ve been practicing keto for 5 years with the exception of slip ups from time to time) My lethargy is gone, my head is clear and I have more energy. I even went out and bought a rebounder which I love. I don’t need to lose weight but I need strength, build up my core and gain muscle. At 65 I need it. 😊
I admire your self awareness and determination to stay in the issue until you reach your goal. All the best!
🥰☺
A very honest video there Tim.
Walking more does help and gentle.
Do you have a pool near you, swimming regularly doesn’t stress your joints.
In the evenings maybe plan an activity that uses your hands?
In your darkroom, cards, jigsaw’s, painting?
When I’m occupied with knitting or patchwork I don’t want snackie hands!
Watching television or YT leaves your hands free to snack, occupy them!
Good luck to you. Don’t forget our portion sizes are smaller in the UK!
That may help with no gaining 😊
PS you’ve inspired me to take my own advice ta😂
🥰
I have the same issue my friend. For the last 6 years I've been starting on Monday LOL
🤣
hilarious
10am in the am and later supper is good❤
🥰☺
I applaud you for doing this (and on camera)! Only thing id like to add is , i wouldnt focus so much on your weight when you are on vacation. It would distract you from enjoying your experience.
Thats just my thought. 😊Hope you have a wonderful trip next month.
🥰☺
Something broke my heart.😢
I grew up poor and know the poverty of the inability to buy cheeses etc.
If you are tossing good foods into the trash why not offer to someone who cannot afford cheeses.
Does your mom have a housekeeper or cleaner? Who mows your yard?
There probably is a family nearby that might enjoy all that good food you tossed out.
Thank you for considering the working poor.
🤗🤭🤗
Similar struggles here! This was encouraging - thanks!
Good luck Tim. You look fine. But do what ever you’re happy with.
🥰☺
🥰
🥰☺
Wow! Way to go! Stay strong and you will enjoy the flight more as well. I understand your dilemma, totally!
Im glad you're getting to travel with your family again!!! Have fun!
🥰
Takes courage to admit mistakes. Kudos to you! You've made up your mind, made necessary changes, and opened the road to success! Good luck Tim!!
I tried OMAD. I just can’t do it. :). Two meals works for me.
@@TheNewRetiredMe
Same here.
Nice! I'm thinking the NRM channel is helping you in ways u never thought! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍💚
Thanks for being so transparent (as you always are). In the past I found that not eating after a specific time of day works well for me (not currently following that lol). Also 10,000 steps a day makes me feel good! We all need to do what works for us.
I like the title of this post. And your journey very real and inspiring
💚💛
The struggle is very real my friend!!
Good luck Tim. I know you can do it!
🥰☺
Kudos to you for your transparency and willingness to share your journey. It’s a daily struggle. I know, I’m right there with you!
🥰☺
I know I want to snack. I have nuts everywhere, especially peanuts roasted without oil. Then I have a silikon popcorn maker for the microwave. No butter, no sugar and a lot of fibres. Also very very dark chocolat, because it is healthy. No soft drinks. Dried fruits, sometime they are very expensive.
🥰☺
Can't believe that all went in the bin. Could have been given to the neighbors.
❤💛
🥰☺
Thank you!
🥰☺
Stop focusing on what you are doing wrong! You are doing so many things right!! You are an inspiration to me! I watch your videos, and they make me feel calm.
Shine your light, do it again and again. You need to enjoy life, do you! ❤❤❤
🥰☺
Good luck from Germany!
i admire your honestly and willingness to keep trying
Good luck Tim. I am sending support. I have cleared out and on the journey with you x
Good luck!
☺
You are funny and interesting! Keep up the good work! Have a nice trip too!
❤ happy you found your way! Enjoy! 😊
Good luck
🤗
🥰
I never saw an elephant in the room but appreciate your honesty and transparency. I’m also a recent retiree x 10 months who has had many changes in my life. I’m working on a healthy lifestyle and believe that a little walking daily as the minimum rec is 150 minutes week along with reducing my portion size without total exclusion of anything helps me best. But you need to find out what works for you! Enjoy your travels next month and also this prep month now.
Wishing you success in your goal, and continued good health. You are taking action, now, which is all anyone can do to change a situation. 👍
🙂
I'm here for your accountability! Your plan is your plan - it doesn't have to be mine for me to help you be accountable. You have this one!
👍
You can do this. I started carnivore two weeks ago, down 7lbs and have lost 2 inches on my waist. Getting rid of temptations is key to success.
❤ true
So relatable 😕Especially the exercise part. Thank you for sharing!
👍
Good Luck. Seems like you have a good plan.
You have just put the confessions of nearly all of us into words. May we all reach our goals and keep each other accountable!
Thank you Tim. Yes, the struggle is real for myself as well. Your honesty and the will to try again is an inspiration!
🙂☺
My problem is from the neck up as well.
Fellow struggler here! Nothing was working-due to being old, slow metabolism, can’t walk due to leg surgery for a while, other boring health stuff, etc-so last ditch
effort-removed ALL dairy 😭back in December and lost 13 pounds in a month-wth!!! Hope it’s the key for you too-good luck!!
🙂☺
Good idea Tim. I’m traveling to Europe April 4th, so I’m starting tomorrow and I plan to lose 10. Let’s do this!!
I lost 5 pounds just leaving cream out of my life, for good. I would bet you are going to be totally happy with your decision. Thank you for taking to time to share just tossing all that food, HUGE!
Good luck on your journey.
☺
Once I got down to my ideal weight, I’d go out to have a good meal. 👍🏻 😊
🥰
Good luck with your goal. ❤
The only way to get the elephant under control is one bite at a time. Good luck!
Youve got this! UA-cam accountability is awesome!
🥰☺
I’m with you! Your plan will work. I went full carnivore at the start of the year and did alternate day fasting all month, losing 19.5 pounds. I am continuing all of that but dropping dairy this month. I also haven’t had a drop of alcohol either, but I never would have poured it down the drain!😮
Good luck! You can do it!
🤗☺
Best wishes for attaining your goal! You have a sensible plan that is doable. We'll done!
🤗☺
you will get there. Just be mindful.. be kind to yourself.
Good luck.
(I know!!!)
We go on daily walks and I get many steps in the garden.
🙂
Great video Tim ! - Love your transparency. You have my support and I have the utmost confidence in your success over the next 30 days and beyond.
🤗☺
Your video is very inspiring. I will watch it again when I need motivation (like tomorrow)!
☺🙂
🥰☺
This kind of honesty is refreshing. As one who is highly skeptical about the carnivore diet, I'd be interested to see Tim's blood chemistry numbers.
My blood work is being done on the 13th.
🙂
All the very best. That was an open and honest take on your challenge. Good luck. We are rooting for you.
