+Alex barnes before discriminating I'd recommend having a closer look. I've been into schools where they've used this and it's amazing what's being taught with this. The lessons that come with this version as standard are for the teachers to show them how to get used to the game and how they can use it for their class. I've seen subjects like history be used for this. I'd recommend looking at the Great Fire of London build a topic that is taught in schools in the U.K.

if they were going to teach history, dwarf fortress would be so much better, hell, dwarf fortress would teach management, problem solving, (if they used ACII) make it easier for learning languages because they would have to learn that a 'k' represents a kobold, much like how "hola" would represent "hello".

I convinced my architecture teacher to get us an older version of the education edition. I led the class in using Minecraft to create and visualize your structure in 3d space. My friend and I managed to get an old version of regular Minecraft to run through it and we did a 2p1c (2 player one controller) hardcore challenge. By the end of the year we built a Colosseum and had all the other students pvp against each other this was senior year of high school years ago. Great memories

Imagine being able to explore a map based on a historical event and learning interactively... Who wouldn't want to learn about Pearl Harbor by exploring it in Minecraft? I could see learning becoming not only more hands-on (literally), but definitely more alluring. Its like adding icing on the cake! Of course the intense map building would require assistance from the entire Minecraft Community and not just teacher's alone, but even so who wouldn't want to be hired to build a map for educational use in Minecraft??? I'm sure I wasn't the only person who at some point wanted to play video games for a living.
Seems like a good idea, but definitely needs more support and a few more rounds in the research and rebuild bucket.

Not to mention, its clear that how things are currently (with these documentaries and current classroom settings), there is CLEARLY something missing. At least there are people out there innovating these processes to make the future generations smarter, as opposed to you who sits back and tells them how horrible of an idea it is with no constructive criticism, just all pure opinion. I would be interested in seeing how the world would be if we all just sat back and let children learn from documentaries, never giving thought to changing how they teach for the better.

Listen, this doesn't teach kids anything. I am sad to admit, I have 2,000 hours in Minecraft from the over 5 years I've played it. I can assure you that I haven't learned a single thing from Minecraft other than a fraction of the 8x multiplication table, and basic gaming skills (knowing which keys are on the keyboard without looking, muscle memory, etc). Unless these schools are trying to make their children professional gamers, this ain't teaching them anything useful.

@BWlfnemgks Skivwnnrlwofj they didn't have many restrictions (this was back in windows 7) so any kid with an account could download it. Also I think eventually the school bought some accounts
I read an article a few months back, by a mother who found Minecraft an ideal way of communicating with her autistic son. They could play together in a world and she found she learnt a lot more about him and how to develop a better interaction. So, this might be a useful tool when dealing with learning difficulties and autism from a teacher prospective.

I played education edition one summer at a summer camp wt a couple of friends. Since the server we are playing on is super crap, the border block did not meet in the corner. Me and the bois managed to glitch through the empty corner and get into the staff only area. I was the one who thought of the idea, we would meet on top of the tower beside the wall (made by another group), and since border does not register as a full block, we would slowly edge across the full block underneath it, and spam-sprint the corner until we made it to the other side. The only kid other than us to break out was sent there by the councillors because of griefing. Truly an epic memory.
Never realised how lucky I was that my school had this and let us do what ever we wanted. It was this version that got into Minecraft in the first place

minecraft is a school subject at several schools in sweden already.
My class uses this and I just play it as a free Minecraft at home, you have to be a non- world builder to have the barrier walls and allow/ dent blocks work, also the allow block allows players to build in immutable worlds, which is a setting, the game setting look very different now
i play education with my friends as not all of my friends have pc's, but a lot of them have cromebooks sent by schools. minecraft education edition is basically minecraft bedrock addition, but it is free if you have a school email. if you want to play some minecraft with friends, i would highly recommended

the reason he was able to walk through those red barrier blocks is bc he was in creative mod and the deny block ment that you cant build or break on top of it and the allow block is for when your in adventure mode you can build and break on top of it

We used a minecraft edu and instead of the barrier blocks they were just unbreakable fence and u could break it run 2 to 3 blocks before re updating your position so I was able to sneak in a sapling and make the teacher shut it down because before she new it we all had wood houses 10/10

The type of special class you should be proud of is an Academy class which some schools may do.
Being an idiot is nothing to be proud of.
It's usually for engineering majors, which are "Special" as most Engineering programs are considered the Hardest Degrees to complete.

Last year in my computers class, my teacher was really fun and let us play Minecraft when we had no other work to do. There was an option of Minecraft edu edition and Normal Minecraft bUT we just used the normal one because there was not much of education happening. The fun part was he set up these really cool servers, like there was a zombie survival one which was sOO SO FUN, I got t play with all my classmates, a mini game server and I think one where you have to escape a prison or something? My teacher played with us as well and it was so much fun I wish I could stay in that class but this year I switched from Computers to Strings.. wish I could have 2 electives in the 8th grade ;;
