The fix for this is different for all programs but there should be an option in whatever you using to equalize the first audio tick of a clip to a neutral frequncy (so it doesnt pop), by just right clicking the given audio clip and hit something likely along the lines of "click removal". hope this helps!

When building long stretches, it is WAY more efficient to work in twos rather than threes because of the mouse travel distance. You can, very effectively, run backwards at fully speed while building if it's only two (granted, you need practice) which is much faster than what you were doing.
