Game Composer Reacts to DEMOCRAWLER THEME from STELLAR BLADE

- After so many of you recommended the Democrawler theme from Stellar Blade to me, I knew something was up with this track. I was already impressed with the Stellar Blade soundtrack in general, but Democrawler... Dang, this is a whole new level. Definitely one of the best OSTs in recent years.

Wait until you hear the Nest ost from this game. I think you will like it a lot. I was heavily looking forward to your review on the Democrawler theme, though. Great video, as always, man.
I think the reason why they went with more opera is for a few reasons. One, this boss is a collection of many people who died in the war of the Orbit Elevator so these are a group of people who were just about to reach their safe paradise but got killed. As such it's more organic feeling than the rest of the monsters and by in-game lore is the embodiment of resentment and rage. There is also an opera house in the remnants of the civilization on Earth so I think opera is somehow part of the culture of the people and the location this boss in might suggest these were the remnants of the upper class of society. Design-wise its almost lovecraft-ian in how horrific and large the monster is so the levels of disturbing nature makes sense. Hope that helps!

@user-zc3sg4hf1kStellar Blade pays homage to a lot of games like Devil May Cry, Sekiro, Nier, Bayonetta, Dark Souls, also some connections to movies like Edge of Tomorrow, Matrix and Star Troopers. Yet the game feels so unique in it's own way. Overall awesome game it is
We know Mother Sphere’s goal with Andro-Eidos was the “Human Instrumentality Plan” (yes they just stole that from Evangelion) with all their memories coming together when they then die.
I wonder if this grotesque horrifying boss then is also a representation of how human’s viewed it. As gross and unnatural. Shape of a sphere (mother sphere) and as close to the colony you can get. They also were plugged into the space elevator at the beginning for some reason.
Very much so on the culture part. If you do the questline that takes you to the opera house there’s several readings and descriptions about how certain performers and creations there like the Karakuri actors were all planned to entertain the VIPs on the orbital elevator during their ascent… and of course we see how that all turned out as we travel up. Like as not Enya would have ended up there too if circumstances didn’t stop her.

This boss is an amalgamation of humans who are filled with bitterness and resentment. The main character becomes keenly aware of this pain and fights the boss to free it from that agony. That's why the soundtrack here is so fitting. It sounds like a lament or a dirge in the beginning, and towards the end, it takes a heroic turn in the tone as the fight comes to its close.
Wow that's incredible considering how people reacted to the game. So interesting
The reason why the music for this boss is so high scale is because it's not the actual boss you are fighting, once you defeat it you find out it's only part of the actual boss which has taken over the entire space station and it's basically a gigantic seraphim.

Here is the lore regarding this boss for those interested. I've beaten this game 4 times, btw. The game is phenomenal.
Democrawler
Many died in isolation throughout the facility during the battle for the Orbit Elevator. In the center of the devastation at the Central Core, people lost their lives while staring longingly out at their beautiful Colony hometown, It's no surprise that, when Naytibas infected their corpses, a horrific embodiment of resentment and rage was born.
You're not ready for the final boss theme which is my top 1st favorite above democrawler theme
raven theme of stellar blade is amazing.. but also many enviroment themes that are very good

It made me laugh when it first played on that boss fight seriosuly.
One of my favorite things about Davi Vasc is he talks about the theory of music. It sets him apart from other music reactors. Talking about things such as interesting time signatures, or which happy, sad, or tense chords are used, is really interesting, as least, to me.

Everyone, TURN DOWN EFFECTS VOLUME in the game or you won’t be able to hear the music as well. I didn’t change volume settings when I played and did not get this experience. Now I’m playin thru again with only the music on.
Amazing video as always! This music gave me the grand beauty of Soulsborne music and the melodic and heroic vibe of JRPG music. The atmosphere of the opera can be dramatic and grandiose, but at the same time it gives you the overdone and comical feelings. But in this music, it feels like those feelings are perfectly balanced to create madness and drama. I haven't played the game yet, so I don't know the context of this fight, but I was blown away!
This is the first exposure I've really had to this game and tbh the soundtrack alone is enough to get me looking into it. I wish I could've made out the lyrics a bit better, I feel like those are pretty important in songs like this. Definitely in English, though.
Any chance we could get a video on the Hades II soundtrack, now that it's in Early Access? Coral Crown and Song of the Sirens are both phenomenal.
The final boss theme « elder naytiba » might be my favorite boss music I’ve ever heard on par with ff7 one winged angel
Somehow this boss reminds me of ludwig,the holy blade from bloodborne. If i'm not wrong the director of the game said he was inspired by several games like nier automata,bloodborne and sekiro. The sword glows with the same colour as ludwig's holy sword

I have not played the game, but what I've seen of the boss in your video reminds me of what the Reapers in Mass Effect did to other sentient creatures - transforming something organic to a horrific amalgamation of their former selves. The soundtrack's continuous plunge from classical opera to an electronic version of itself, to me, signified that.

I honestly didnt notice there was boss music until i saw his reaction to the soundtrack of Abbadon's boss fight. Was locked in making sure the various very scary, very sudden attacks dont land...to little succes.
I interpreted this music for this fight as, the mixed emotions of the souls in one functioning being, like happy, angry, and sad.
Then the second phase seemes like they form one goal to defeat the main character.
Hades II OSTs perhaps? There's some bangers already, would recommend main theme (Death to Chronos) or Crossed Flames as first intros

Man loves it at phase 2 hahahaha, his face was exactly my reaction too, you love to see it.
It's amazing how I played the game but it feels like you know more about this boss than me by just listening to the song.

this is a very cool OST, it's trying to be everything all at once and it's actually succeeding lol
It's a little strange though as far as a monaca assisted soundtrack us concerned. It seems monaca is only really used for chill, laid back, world themes and camp music. Very little action music from them.
This is just extra jarring because the intro to the game is clearly monaca styled epic NieR inspired music, and we just never get to hear anything like that in the game again, and it makes the game feel tonaly disjointed from the intro based on its music and scale of the scene.
The ost is amazing for sure, but I was expecting and hoping for more boss themes inspired by the dramatic epic Orchestra of the NieR series.
Slightly disappointing for me since I prefer classical/orchestral over rock or metal and stellar blade clearly leans into the latter.
Oh well can't complain really, it's different from what I usually like but that helps expand my horizon a little bit. Plus I already have my epic orchestral Sci fi music in NieR:Automata. So some action packed Sci fi rock/metal is welcomed.

Suggestion (it's not Blasphemous finally, jajaja, although I'm still waiting a video for at least one track hopefully 🙏): so yeah, Song of the Sirens form Hades II , you can truly feel the song doing its work, incredible track, beautifully hypnotic. I'm loving some tracks from Hades II, specially the ones from this 'group' ;).Video: Oh Davi, this one is an incredible track, I really like opera so that also helps, but yeah amazing song, I'm happy I saw this video, great as always, I really enjoyed it!.

You MUST DO the final boss, tachy , raven, and providence I think is really good but some ppl don’t agree w me on that lol
Providence as a boss is kinda lame, which is probably the reason people don't like the ost for it so much. It's cool looking, it's name is badass, but it's moveset is super repetitive where it just constantly just tries to 2 piece you with its fists.
It's very basic and moderately paced compared to raven, a much more badass, intense, fast paced and high skill. Basically parry your ass off or you die.

Do the cords usually play identically with the vocalists voice? Is there anything different about the notes and pitches that the vocalist is using? Their drawn out lows are really intriguing to me.

@Lcss1 Yes he was, he didn't do all if it alone, but he was a major contributing artist. You can obviously hear it, plus he's credited in game
I think the songs are in an unknown language mixed with English gibberish.
I hear it everywhere on their soundtrack, you feel like you understand what they are singing yet when you really pause and listen, the lyrics don't make sense and sounds gibberish. Not complaining though, I like it being ambiguous like that.
It took you a long time analyzing the first half of the song that you only saved the best part of the music for the last third of your video.
I kept waiting for the beat to drop but you kept rewinding before the best part. 😅

Basically what I'm noticing in a second Korean game now. First one being Lies of P. Amazing music, but some incredibly broken English that straight up sounds like made up words.
