I really love how through out the whole theme there are varying amounts and types of percussive sounds that sound like lighting strikes, given Rey Dau's abilities and the fact he appears during the thunderstorm period of inclemency I found this really cool.
Something you missed, is that at various points in the theme (first heard at 0:54 seconds in the theme) the background percussion is made to sound like lightning strikes!
Immediately my favorite monster and theme when he got shown to us with the Scarlet Forest trailer/teaser. You can really feel and hear the danger, power and magnificence of Rey Dau with its design and theme. The sound effects as well are so well done too, I've never heard of anything like it. Rey Dau in all aspects is so beautifully unique. LET CAPCOM COOK!

I absolutely LOVE the composition of this piece. It very much evokes the thought of how it would feel to be a person caught in the path of a storm. The beginning is the storm brewing and the person noticing, bracing for the storm. 0:44 with the short, almost sorrowful, violin, like a getting told by someone that you won't escape it. 1:07 is the storm brewing and the dread the sight brings, with 1:21 being the 'calm' before it hits, having distant lightning strikes in the background. 1:42 is when you are inside the storm, short but brutal and powerful. Even the sound of lightning is dampened with the wind howling around you. 1:49 is when you are in the eye of the storm. Out of nowhere it's much calmer but you are nowhere near safe. This part really makes me think of Amatsu, even though the themes are not similar. And at 7:06 you can hear some Valstrax vocals creep in there. 7:27 is riding the storm, the feeling of freedom. But you are not really in control. It's particularly cool that the theme basically consists of constant 'whooshing' sounds, underlined by thunderclaps and electronic instruments. You know, like fighting Rey Dau inside the storm. I wish the wind was more of a factor in-game tbh.
Thanks for Rurikhan and Gaijinhunter a game here from their shoutout of the 88 3th fleedpodcast! You're a king in making game music explain videos. The one you did with Malzeno from monster hunter rise sunbreak is definitely a true masterpeace
Facing Rey Dau in the beta I could feel a beautiful chaotic force, like nature itself was challenging me. I was mesmerized by both the music and Rey Dau's movements. Like you said there is a respect and awe for nature but I would also add that the theme makes you be cautious of nature as well because in an instant it can come crashing down on you if you don't pay attention to it which is what I felt every time I nearly dodge one of Rey Dau's lightning blasts But like Zinogre or Rajang my desire to defeat Rey Dau increased as the fight and theme kept going
It's so much more than beauty and sadness, it's incredible. those violins alone in the chorus picture awe, challenge, power, fear, and danger. Capcom always delivers
The battle against *Ray Dau* was very fun! I enjoyed it the most when I played the Beta. He was challenging, he has a great design, he has powerful attacks and the track was wonderful! I hate it the game costs about 70 Bucks, but I'm so excited to play the full game! I hope they'll work on the engine until and after release, so it's much more playable for people with less good hardware. Because the problem comes from the engine. It wasn't designed to work with so big areas and so much NPC's.
Finally!! Thanks for the review! Really excellent for both Rey Dau's theme per se and this review! From 1:21 there's some kind of clap sound which is really like lightning strike down! So cool~
I find the usage of lower brasses (primarily bass trombones with a bit of tenor) in complementary with the percussions to produce the harsh thunder landscapes of the windward planes very neat. Not to mention the various crescendos that can represent Rey Dau's might especially in moments where he launches his railgun shots. Cinematic music and fight 10/10
I love how powerful the theme starts. And when you're fighting him with the darkness and lightning strikes, the music starts off angry as if to say "you f***ed up."
Hey Davi Vasc, big fan of your videos😄 I know you're a busy man but can you do a reaction to the Helldivers 2 soundtrack? Thankyou for reading my comment😁
Capturing Rey Dau was soo epic. If the rest of the game is Even a fraction as good as the beta then wilds will be a game of the year contender for sure
Rey Dau has quickly become one of my favorite monsters of all time and his song is so fitting all I wanna know know is what will that Long Sword and Bow will look like, because I’m definitely going to use their layered skins for one of my weapons.😆
From what we know, Rey Dau isn't a beginning of the game Monster, it's presented as the apex of the Windward plains so I think we can compare it to at least Rathalos. Wouldn't be surprised if it had been scaled down in power for the Beta but I can't see a monster with that kind of paterns being low tier in the final game. It's theme slaps too hard for that too, dayum
Hi Davi ! This is the first time I get to comment on your channel which I love. In the beta, I discovered that if you defeat a non-quest monster, the music no longer simply fades out, there's a unique victory fanfare like the ones you hear in the orchestral versions of monster & area themes. It's so epic ! I don't want to promote my channel at all since I just don't care about it, but I recorded it & shared it if you want to take a listen ! Anyway great video as usual ! Have a good day Davi !
Great video Davi, you should check out the OST from a game called Outward. The composer Jean-Francois Racine made the game really feel like an adventure and I was in awe the first time I heard his music.
can we talk about how they added the thunder hitting the ground in the theme? i love that so much! also tht theme has both the main game's theme motifs and the regular windward plains theme motif in it.
Loved this track in the beta! You should also check out the Battle OST for Metaphor Refantazio! It is so good and a style I’m not sure that I’ve heard before!
I said it before but I LOVE the static at the start of his theme is fantastic I love how his theme fits his three roles. Ruler of the plains (the heavy brass) electricity dragon (the static, and fast paced chords) and the tribal theme of wilds (the flute and vocals.) Its so well done and sounds absolutely amazing And I don't think Ive EVER heard such a beautifully INTIMIDATING opening to a theme! Chefs kiss!
It’s a great battle theme because even though I fought this guy many times during the beta and didn’t have trouble with him, I would get excited for the fight anyway and I think the theme did a lot of carry on that. He had a super limited move set that I think will be different with the full game, I mean with a theme that has strings in it they’re not gonna let me down.
whisper, whisper.... I come sneaking in to recommend the new Blasphemous II Mea Culpa Soundtrack.... especially the track named "Semblante Cautivo" by Carlos Viola... you will not be disappointed
For clarity's sake, I'm actually not sure this is specifically Rey Dau's theme, I think it's moreso just an alternate, more intense battle theme for the Windward Plains, for the stronger monsters that reside in it, a bit like how the Ancient Forest from World had multiple themes (a more lowkey theme for something like Great Jagras, and then the all-out battle theme used for Anjanath and onward). It's also why a lot of the theme moreso has aspects representing Kunafa Village, and all the electronic elements present in the theme can also be associated with the Sandtide and its thunderstorms rather than strictly just Rey Dau. I'm thinking we might hear this theme again when we inevitably encounter something like Rathalos in the Plains.
I think that is very possible. I did have the impression that the song was mostly referencing the locale. And the electricity sounds could be referencing the thunder from the storms rather than the thunder from Rey Dau
Oh, this track is pretty cool, I really like it, and yeah, the melody is very good.
