Top 10 Bass Lines in Dark wave
My absolute favorite instrument fell in love when I found Joy Division, the Cure, and the Smiths. Those 80s bands really knew how to use it
My three favorite bands along with the clash
Ew the smiths suck lol.
@@brunettezprettyr4296 they really don’t. All of the musicians in that band are incredibly talented
sameee
Cure & Joy Division (Warsaw) started in 1977!!
Simon Gallup’s bass lines are fantastic!!
Yeah!... Masterpieces!!
I think so, im pretty much learning bass to the cure, sisters, and rosetta stone, going well so far👍
Amen
I definitely ❤agree...
Peter hook all day
I was hoping Bauhaus's She's in parties would be in there, but none the less I loved it
you're right! but it's hard to choose...all David J bass lines are fantastic!
You can see She's In Parties in full here: ua-cam.com/video/bntrB20ntrs/v-deo.html
Great video Pier.
Or Kick in the eye!
Fascination street is the song that got me paying attention to bass, bassist are extremely underrated In my opinion
In this genre the Bass is the King...:)
@@piercaramel3103 for real..
This dude loves The Cure
This was fantastic. Regardless of music style, I've always felt Simon Gallup and Peter Hook are two of the best bassists of all time. Few can tske a rhythm instrument and make it an integral part of the melody.
Yeah! ... This bass lines are Masterpieces... Timeless
True
Great stuff man, dark wave has some awesome bass lines. I'm pretty fond of bauhaus kick in the eye, such a great tune
That was one of the first songs that came to my mind as well. Another similar song with great bass line is Resurrection Joe by The Cult.
@@dsi76 haven't heard that one, ill have to check it out
That's it. I'm going to learn how to play bass!
It's an amazing instrument... Enjoy!
Good on you pal how's it going playing the bass
Omg and you played M too!!! Love this
Awesome picks lots of Cure ❤
Simon is the Master !:)
ok this is my new favorite video ever
Thanks Ana. It is a great satisfaction for me!
I've had the pleasure of seeing both Bauhaus and Love & Rockets live, David J is a monster bass player. When he digs in to Rose Garden or Double Dare it sets the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end.
Watching this 7 years later. I like it!
I really love sisters of mercy's basslines.
Btw, very nice video.
Could've included underrated bands like The Sound.
Thanks so much. Love "underrated band" like Tones on Tail, Virgin Prunes, Sex gang children, Lycia, etc... Maybe in the next video I play this lines...:)
What means BTW?

👏👏 wonderful list. I wouldn’t know how to play bass without learning this stuff 35 years ago. PS it’s a simple one, but I always think Steven Severin of the Banshees’ “Israel” a classic as well. Too many incredible songs of the era
I thought the same. The introduction to Israel is so simple, yet so sophisticated. I would add Israel to this list.
to me, sound of the bass is the best sound in the universe!
Its the best instrument to me too, best sound to follow, why sing along and waste lung, when you can hum and tap along and have lung for more harmful things😃
Loved that you put "In The Night" by Bauhaus on there. One of their truly overlooked songs, and a song that sounds better over time.
Totally agree!... One of my favorite goth song!
This list definitely needed some Asylum Party, The Chameleons, Clan Of Xymox, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Gary Numan, A Flock Of Seagulls, Modern English, The Fixx, The Human League, The Bolshoi, Sad Lovers & Giants, The Danse Society, Killing Joke etc. etc. etc...
This list is MY favorite list.... Etc etc etc
@@piercaramel3103 Wow, just saying. It was simply an opinion, man. NO need to get defensive about it...
_(Not to mention, your title doesn't say anything about it being YOUR personal "favorite" list. Hence why the opinion was given. Didn't realize differing opinions were off limits)_
@@modsleix6 about the title you are right, I'm sorry I didn't want to attack you but just specify that it is my personal list, that even if I know and love the bands you mentioned I have chosen other lines. That's all
😃 comunque, ancora complimenti
Un po' di Italia con i Diaframma!
Yes, Simon Gallup, very underrated and of course, love Peter Hook and David J. A personal fav fantastic baseline missing from this list: Ceremony
Not to mention 'Transmission'
Sorry, but NOBODY underestimates Simon Gallup!!!
He was always an essential building block in the Cure sound.
Dancing and kick in the eyes are my favorites to play when we talk about Bauhaus!
Beautiful.
I miss Show of Strength by Echo & the Bunnymen.
Fantastico. Grande!
Grazie mille!
Gallup, David J, Craig Adams and Severin in that order for me. Craig Adams was a massive influence on me growing up as a bassist.
Love this content!!
Great video. Would have added Other Voices and A Forest by the Cure. So many great basslines.
All hail bass pick playing
Excellent!
Though I miss “New Dawn Fades” and “Hollow Eyes”.
Patricia Morrison played bass on Floodland, Andrew Eldritch wrote it and sang on it
I think he may have played the instruments too.
No she didn't, Eldritch played all the instruments on that album.
Nope. Patricia Morrison discovered too late that Eldritch had hired her to look pretty and do interviews with him, and nothing else. She hardly got to play a note. And he then allegedly ripped her off into the bargain.
Then she married Dave Vanian. How cool is that?
Primary and Fascination Street would have nicely rounded off the list
Yeah amazing lines!
Well huge congrats for pulling out those The Cure base lines especially The Holy Hour which is calling out for a much heavier cover. I would like to throw La Ment and Push into the mix
Great job, that was awesome and makes me want to play the bass lol Next time do "Disorder" fom Joy Division too!
complimenti, ottima esecuzione
Grazie mille!
Love them all.
“The holy hour” by The Cure is my favourite but they’re all classic great basslines!
Wow that Holy Hour baseline I know so well. Awesome
If you like the early Cure era in this video i play the Michael Dempsey lines...

Incredible selection and transitions!!
Thanks !
You're welcome! From another bassist!!
Beautiful bass lines! Great work! 👌🏻⛥
Thanks Bro!
Quoto e condivido pienamente!
in the night is one of my favourite bauhaus songs! you played that bass line very well (:
Thanks so much! David J has a unique style !
Very cool - I’d add a few more to the mix: “Cascade” by Siouxsie, “She’s in Parties” by Bauhaus, and “She’s Got a Halo” by Faith & Disease.
These are all amazing lines Bro!
Simon Gallop... top player !
10 more bro!! awesome
Thanks bro!

Rosetta Stone - Summer and The Wake - On Our Honeymoon are my favourites!
Lugosi is so simple but works really well in the song
Great video!
A Forest by The Cure is also one of my favorites!

.... BEL VIDEO, RINGRAZIO MIO FRATELLO FRANCESCO, CHE ME L HA INVIATO !!!!
.... peccato l ' assenza di PRIMARY .....
Grazie mille!
Dude, please make another video and put the bass tab with the song. It´s a huge help to new players.
Thanks for the video!
Number 1 should be The Cure's Pictures of You on Robert Smith's Bass VI
Thank you.
Niente Diaframma?
Comunque spacca!!! Bel suono lo Steinberger!!
Grazie mille!
Ecco i Diaframma con uno spazio dedicato !

Also “dark wave disco” was a club night in Dunfermline (Scotland) during the mid/late 80’s
Great nights -was usually on amphetamine but great nights st Margaret’s I seem to remember
Espectacular! Gracias!
Chouette !
Que des bons titres.
Merci.
So good.
Robert may be the face of the Cure, but Simon is the song of the Cure. 🇧🇷
I know that Andrew Eldritch wrote Floodland on his own, however, technically who plays the bass is Patricia Morrison.
Magnífica elección de canciones!
Tony Pettitt should be there as well but, very good job indeed!
I’ve been listing to She’s lost control a lot recently
Dude, you included the holy hour!
Complimenti! Sono curioso di provare lo Spirit!
Grazie mille!
I think that darkest riff is from Holy Hour by Cure - its sticks in your mind
I knew Bela would be on the list
Good job !!
Thanks!!
One of my favorites: “we treat the blindness” by strange boutique
This is brilliant!!!
The best bass line of Simon Gallup is in the song A forest .
Not my favorite but a true iconic line
Damn, I hear DEAD SOULS, I'm whole in goose pumps! 🖤 🖤 🖤

Thanks! I will soon be making a new video on the Dark Wave. it will be a surprise...stay tuned!
im buying a bass tomorrow. probably going to learn bela lugosi’s dead first.
A great start. Have fun!
Grande Pier! :)
Grazie, sempre gentilissimo! :)
Clan of Xymox - 7th Time has an excellent bassline too
Patricia Morrison played the Bass on «Lucretia my Reflection», not Andrew Eldritch.
Thanks! Good overview!
Thanks so much!
Come on Forest 👍
Coming soon... 😜😬👍
Wow ❤
excelente!!! Só os mestres !
The Cure's 'A Forest' is also very emblematic.

My favorite bassline is in "christian says" by tones on tail
Yeah i like TOT! ...for the next video :)
@@piercaramel3103 add burning skies too :)
Nice! 🎧😎👍
Thanks so much! 😀
bass andrew eldritch? sure about that?, i never saw him play bass, he didnt need to he could sing that low
I m not sure...
Pier Caramel Patricia Morrison :)
Eldritch wrote all those songs so idk
It was synth bass on that album. For real bass parts you want to look to Craig Adams on First and Last and Always , or any of the older stuff.
It wasn’t synth bass on the whole album and certainly not This Corrosion
Patricia morrison recorded the bass in lucretia my reflection
Primary" is an obvious ommission.Early Bunnies tracks like 'Monkeys' 'Crocodiles' or 'Do It Clean' would make my list.Les Pattinson is a great bassist.
Nice 👌
Exelente
If anyone want to hear a cool song that sounds a bit like that, listen to Eating Crow - So abuse . Man i love this kind of music.
Yeah! This kind of music is based on the bass line... Don't need other 😬😎
Another 10 please?
Coming soon! :)
cool
Wasn’t the Sisters’ bassist Patricia Morrison?
Simon Gallop!!!
The Master
Simon Gallup: best bass player of the world! Ever!
