Second Edition - Hello My Baby 1988

- Second edition was another version of the Harrington Brothers quartet from the early 80s. They were the 2nd place silver medallists from 1988 convention.
Tenor: Fred Farrell
Lead: David Harrington
Bass: Jamie Meyer
Bari: Doug Harrington
They went on to win the convention in 1989.
Doug and David actively coach many groups like the Swinglish Mix, Ringmasters, Zero8 etc.
Fred sings tenor in the current gold medallist quartet "Crossroads", while Doug directs "Zero8" chorus from Sweden.
Jamie sings in the Zero8 chorus.
This may be one of the very few videos of Second Edition on UA-cam.
My speakers can't handle the resonance these guys are dishing out
There are very few barbershop recordings on UA-cam where the ringing of those chords is this easily audible. Awesome singing, best rendition of this song on here for sure.
David Harrington is one hell of a lead
This is the actual song that got me hooked on Barbershop. The 1987 Convention TAPE!! I played that think until it could play no more. I have always wanted to see this performed by these guys. They are my heroes. "They are my biggest fan." lol
Doug's bari slide at the end makes the whole tag, wonderful!
They locked those chords and threw away the key.
Loved these guys and New Tradition. Will always remember SE Somewhere over the Rainbow and New T Be a Clown / Smile.
I would love to see old champs like this on the AIC Show, even for just one song. Back in 1988 for the 50th Anniversary they did this. Some quartets just did tags and some had to use a sub for a part, but they number that participated was awesome. I'd rather see 20 or so quartets do one or two songs than some of the newer champs do 3 or 4.
These guys are by far my favorite quartet ever. If alone knows if a digital copy of the album they did after they won actually exists, I'd pay solid money to get my hands on it.
i grew up listening to these guys. my mum and dad did barbershop. love them
I have so much fun harmonizing with this.
This is the group that got me hooked on barbershop.
Yes! Second Edition rocks!!!
Best version of this song I have ever heard. Perfect.
Man I love Second Edition. It's funny to see where bbshop has come even from the 80's. Tight.
Absolutely stunning!!!! Wow!!! I remember them !
what a sound
This guys a great lead
Love that overtone last chord
Greg Stickler woooow yeah that's a really loud and beautiful overtone
you can literally hear an overtone for the entirety of 1:31 - 1:41. Amazing.
back when the stache was class
Nice
wow awesome
They were a "fine young 4some!" all in their 20's.
Yow, they're good. Nice upload.
I WANT MORE SECOND EDITION!!!!!!!!!!!!
very impressed.
Love that this video has 46,000 views. how did they not win in 88?
@fenix182 Believe it or not, they were all around the same age as Ringmasters..20s...
I have this videotape! It's from the 1988 convention in San Antonio.
Wow there good
Here in August plague year of 2020 waiting for armageddon- remember going to wonderful events such as this where people gathered freely to enjoy great talent. Second Edition-you live in my heart!
Nice work on posting this, Shrie! Pray that those BHS wankers don't make you take this down!
Dangg.... Fred when he had hair... o.o
I personally don't get how these guys didn't win in '87 or '88... they seem to blend SO much better than Interstate Rivals and Chiefs of Staff. I guess it's just me...
+Alex Wahl People hated them because thy were so damn good.
Period.
Alex Wahl I can understand Rivals beating them but Second Edition blows Chiefs of Staff out of the water sound wise
For anyone looking to get recordings of The Second Edition www.secondeditionquartet.com (released June 2014 - Growing Girls, and The Harrington Brothers are featured as well)
Holly Harrington ... Plz tell the guys just fabulous... Was raised on the Harrington Bros quartet ... And hearing 2nd edition just brings back such great memories!!!! Ty to all you guys
@feelit4 David Harrington!
So that’s where nf4 got that tag
Does anyone know where to get sheet music for this version?
David puts so much "ah" bite that it rings the crap out of everything. Very few leads know to morph their vowels to accomodate the overtine adan
The Be Sharp
They won a year too late. Totally. Maybe two.
Nice baritone swipe at the end. Did Doug suggest that? Lol
would you be willing to send me that video tape? My dads quartet placed 17th in that competition. I have been looking all over for it. I would be willing to pay for a copy.
the one on the far right looks like Elvis Presley!!! :o
Bass: Jamie Meyer = Rick Moranis 😂
Hey is that the tenor from crossroads?
Yep!
THIS ARRANGEMENT IS AMAZING! Who arranged this?
Buzz Haeger wrote it back in the 1960s, but now you have to pay David Harrington to get the sheet music because he claims to have written it.
Как же круто там у вас американцев...романтика блин...такого в рашке не было
Where's the singing frog ??
He looks like nick pitera...
Dats beez duh strayt drug, babees.
Dats BARBERSHOP!!!!!!!!!
"A fine young foursome"?!!!!
They all look like they're pushing mid 40's-50's.
Here they are, in their 40’s-50’s… ua-cam.com/video/zbi7NTO9fOw/v-deo.html
getting closer to the final resul but still gotta work the tempo guys
Against the bass
One of my favorite performances.
Too bad the idiot talked over the start of the song. Not sure why he thought he was important enough to do that. Other than that… Absolutely fabulous!!
Don't what? Call them wankers or attract their attention to this video?
