This is probably the best interview I've heard from a ASOIAF podcaster with anyone from one of these shows. You asked all the right questions that he WOULD answer.
The fact that Ryan is a true fan and nerd really comes across. The fact that he casually mentions The Anarchy and expects us to know what he's talking about makes the history geek in me smile.
@@bagel8553 Lol, I mean, yes there's no reason to panic yet, he's just stepping down as showrunner, I didn't understand if he's still gonna be executive producer, but even if he's not, I do think he can come back to direct some episodes in the future. Still, the show so far is great, and being Sapochnik the co-showrunner I think he deserves some credits, just as many as Condal. Also, he's a great director and he elevated every episode of Game of Thrones he did, hell even "The Bells" (8x05) is still watchable only because of his directing. So I don't know why the hell you would interpret this as a good news but if you really are, I guess good for you
Miguel is the director, he didn't write the plot at all. People don't understand what they're talking about. Even though he was a showrunner, he didn't even touch the plot, you can all see that all the episodes were written by Ryan himself, or with someone from his team of writers. Miguel director, to put good battles or beautiful shots, these are his skills.
I think it’s a bit too early to say we won’t miss Miguel - the overall approach to the show has been fantastic, and as showrunner he will have played a big part in it. But I definitely would be more worried if Ryan was going!

Amazing interview. As soon as I heard Ryans interview with George on his podcast and heard how a big fucking nerd he is, I immediately got more hyped for HOT D.
Thank for this interview. I came back looking for this a year after it came out because it took me a while to come back to watch HotD and because life intervened. The last season of GoT in particular diminished my enthusiasm for the television adaptation (still love the books and novellas) but HotD has completely resurrected that old thrill for Westeros on the screen. The people putting on this show are doing superb work - it is great television - and you guys put out a terrific interview. Can’t wait for season 2 and HBO give this showrunner a raise. He GETS IT!

Yet another great interview , well done as usual and congrats for the access and opportunities HoW is getting ; of course well deserved. Condal i did not know that much about when he was announced as one of the show-runners for HotD. But the more I have read and heard from him in interviews like this and beyond , I do think we are in very good hands. Condal does seem a genuine fan and student of the ASoIaF universe and seems to be involving GRRM quite a bit to bounce off and run past quite a few concepts / ideas. Which of course is even more encouraging. It is very promising to have someone like Ryan in the role he is in with HotD ; seemingly trying to keep as faithful and canonical to GRRM's works as much as possible. With us also realizing he has a job to do adapting the material - being able to present via the TV medium and appeal to a wide audience etc. And with F&B in particular discerning through multiple accounts and expanding & fleshing out many unknowns in the adaptation process. Well done yet again , great interview.

Excellent interview! Super happy with how faithful the first two episodes were, and hearing Ryan speak about the material gives me hope that we'll get an accurate adaptation moving forward. You can tell his appreciation of George's work is genuine. I have to admit I was skeptical of this show after GoT, but now I'm completely hooked and it feels great to look forward to going back to Westeros every Sunday again :D

For accessibility reasons - plenty of people need subtitles. I myself always use subtitles because I struggle to focus on the words being said when I just hear them, it's an auditory processing thing.

That first time i watched, he got me, then in my second rewatch i clearly saw that her reaction was completely normal, Viserys didnt gaf about her son & rhaenyra's son was getting away without some punishment. But his bias ass got me the first time, incredible how he manipulates us, he sucks.
Ask him whe is so biased towards rhaenyra? Is not even hiding! I cant enjoy the show if they are "telling me" who to support. Why rhaenyra isn't morally gray as in the books? Viserys is a bad father to his sons and helaena, yet last episode we were suppose to agree that he was the best dad of westeros. Bullshit, he is deadbeat dad. This would never happen in got, if can't be biased he should stay away from book adapations 😑 IS NOT your fanfiction dude
There are so many of us out there who are as passionate as he is of GOTs world The story of greens and black was so different than the series. He left so much out and for those who isn’t know the story got lost real easy He copied so much from GOTs like she didn’t want to rule over ash and bone taken from Daenerys when at first she reined herself in from taking kings landing. Also Daenerys knew nothing about dragons and had to learn on her own and train her dragons and came up with dracarys, which when you read the story in earlier years it wasn’t used, just in the stories with Daenerys. These actors didn’t even make it sound right like Daenerys did. Sorry but to me ryan butchered this story. Hope season 2 is better, even the battle wasn’t as good as GOTs even tho same person. I watch the whole series of GOTs every other week and it drives my family crazy, but I have yet to watch HODs second time. I have had so many people ask me about watching this because they know I live and breathe GOTs, and I tell them of my disappointment and they too agree voice their disappointments. Sorry to Ryan but I just didn’t that nail biting excitement and watching over and over trying to get through to the next episode.
