The thing about Borros Baratheon: he can't read.
There was a page of text in this letter. He called for a maester.
A maester, who happened to be sent by Oldtown, which happens to be a seat of house Hightower, says that Queen Rhaenyra demands fealty.
Was it the actual content of the letter? Who knows. Probably it had some more stuff and some cool offers. But Borros's maester didn't communicate that.

Yep I thought this too at first... But tbh the line about reminding the lords about their oath makes this less likely imho.
Luke should have offered Joffrey to marry a daughter!

I immediately thought this too and still believe it. Even though the Maester says the one line Rhaenyra said, I do believe there were also softer words the Maester did not read aloud. I believe he read what he wanted to read. I can hardly believe that Rhaenyra sent Luc on his first envoy alone with a single line message. Luc did good...he addressed her as QUEEN 👸🏼

@@maggyfrog It looked like Luke wasn't properly briefed on "what to do if Borros Baratheon can't read or some other stuff happens".
Also, he was losing his composure anyway and, considering circumstances, his goal was (and should have been) to not insult anyone and come back home in one piece with no body parts lost. He failed with the last part, but kinda not his fault.

to be fair, rhaenyra didn't think borros would object whatsoever. daemon was correctly focusing right away on strategy, at the expense of not being by rhaenyra's side when she was having a miscarriage. he should have made moves right away even without rhaenyra's leave since he's already having meetings without her anyway. there was still a window of opportunity for daemon to get to storm's end first before the greens, but all in all, no one saw it coming that borros would have demands or objections.

Laenor and Seasmoke - I see 3 OK resolutions:
    1) Laenor lives a happy life as a sellsword and dies in combat, because that's what sellswords do
    2) Laenor comes back:
2a) as Laenor, it's problematic though
2b) as Addam of Hull, it's also problematic, but maybe can be resolved if Laenor suffered some bad injuries to his face
    3) Seasmoke remains unclaimed, but Grey Ghost is claimed

My theory of rooks rest is that Vhegar initially refuses to attack Melees, which is the reason she is able to do so much damage to Sunfyre, eventually Aemond gets her to attack and the battle is won easily, but now Aegon is so badly wounded, giving Aemond more guilt, which is why he is compelled to go off on his own with Vhegar so that nobody can see these flashes of disobedience… personally I hope this is portrayed in the show, it looks great in my own head 😂

There were a number of things we wish we'd seen that were only gestured at, but you can spot the gestures indicating the offscreen events-- like Little Laena asking Viserys about riding Balerion and mentioning Vhagar as still alive but without a rider, only to see her next riding Vhagar alongside Daemon and Caraxes! She meant to find and ride the oldest living nuclear lizard, and she DID!
Also, we see Harwin admiring Rhaenyra striding back into the hunting camp covered in blood, then catching his father's tiny nod to rescue her from the wedding fray and doing it very effectively-- we see him as a decent, kind, loyal guy and also the developed trust and reliance Rhaenyra and he maintain while he fathers sons in secret :)

I always assumed that the unreliable sources cited in Fire & Blood that claimed Visenya had draconic features were based on rumor and were highly exaggerated. So, the baby on the show appearing deformed but not having a hole in her chest and exaggerated draconic features was pretty much what I expected.

  • @Seraphina-Rose
    @Seraphina-Rose 2 роки тому +10

The Targaryen "dragon babies" are an interesting mystery. Rhaenyra's daughter Visenya is described *by the maester writing the history* to have dragon features; the same maester describes other Targaryen babies this way too, particularly the children of Maegor the Cruel. In the show, we didn't see a dragon baby, nor is there any sign that the other people in the room are reacting to such a monstrosity.
Daenerys' son Rhaego is described as having dragon features *by Mirri Maz Dur* who is also not an unbiased source. Ser Jorah says "they say" Rhaego was monstrous, meaning he wasn't an eyewitness.
It makes me wonder if the "dragon babies" are a lie made up by the maesters, who have an anti-dragon agenda, rather than a sign or proof that Targaryens are part-dragon.

    • @aerynsunx
      @aerynsunx 2 роки тому +6

If you re-watch the scene in the finale where Rhaenyra is dressing the baby for the funeral, you'll see the Silent Sisters are whispering to each other as they catch glimpses of the baby. Also, it goes by quickly, but you can catch glimpses of the baby's head. From an angle, you can see her face is flattened and eyes deformed. The body shows tiny scales. So they don't linger over it on the show, but Rhaenyra did give birth to a "dragon baby".

Hi Robert, enjoyed the stream as always. Just wanted to say a few words regarding The Witcher: First I would like to say that I think far too much is being made of certain comments and reports about some aspects of the show. For example, the comment about some of the writers mocking the source material was made by someone who worked on season 1. Many of the writers for that season did not return for season 2, so it is well possible that the 'mockers' did not continue writing for the show. Also, not liking something you work on does not necessarily mean you won't do a good job. That will depend entirely on your professionalism. Cavill's misgivings during season 2 - according to him - were mainly about Geralt's dialogue. He fought for keeping more of the book dialogue and he seemingly got his way. There were no reports - to my knowledge - of major disagreements between him and the showrunner during the filming of season 3. I have, however, been questioning his commitment ever since season 1, no matter how much of a fan he might be. Hardly a week has gone by ever since season 1 came out without some reports of his name being attached to this film or the other. To my dismay, many of those reports turned out to be true. Shooting films is a lengthy business, much more so than TV (I know, I'm in the business myself). His many commitments elsewhere must have been a major nightmare for the producers of the show to work around. Back in September it was reported that season 4 & 5 would be filmed back to back. That is highly unusual as it is a logistical nightmare on may fronts. At the time the only explanation I could come up with was that they were planning on doing this because of Cavill's upcoming shooting schedules for other projects (and no, it's not just Superman, he is attached to numerous other movies as well). The mere fact that there is now no longer any talk about shooting 2 seasons back to back seems to confirm this. With Cavill gone, there is likely no more need for such a thing. Of course Henry has been a major part of the series, but just as in the books, Geralt maybe the titular character, but he is NOT the main character. The main character is Ciri, followed by Geralt and Yennefer.
Recasting him (especially after season 3 when the story takes a very different turn), won't be as damaging to the franchise on a whole as it would be in some other shows. Also, had they announced his departure without a replacement in place, things would look very different indeed. But they do have an actor to take over. Now, I do not know Liam Hemsworth, so I don't know what he is like as an actor. He surely looks good, judging by photos I have seen. They obviously must have been doing castings (Hemsworth may well have been in the running back before Cavill got the job) and didn't choose just anybody to take over the role of Geralt. We will just have to wait and see how well or not he is going to play the role. He certainly is surrounded by some great actors, especially Anya Chalotra and Freya Allen! Will Cavill's departure cause some fans to turn their back on the show? Undoubtedly. But the vast majority will just want to see the story continue. As long as Liam can make the role his own, like Liam Mcintyre did when he replaced Andy Whitfield in Spartacus some years ago (I know, the circumstances were different, but that's not the point), all will be well!

i think Rhaenyra was good to her sons, especially Luke. she clearly loves him. was sending him to treat with a lord with uncertain loyalties the most responsible thing? no, but i understand why she did it (she clearly couldn’t have gone herself in her condition, and sending someone like Daemon would’ve been an awful idea; she should’ve sent Rhaenys, as she and Borros were kin).

Lucerys could not offer Borros Baratheon a marriage alliance, but perhaps he could have offered him something better: a dragon.
The Baratheons are of Valyrian descent (from Orys Baratheon, a bastard son of Aerion Targaryen, and more recently Dowager Queen Alyssa Velaryon, the Old King's mother) so they ought to be able to bond with the beast as well as any Dragonseeds.
My first thought was that perhaps the Lord of Stormlands should be given Stormcloud, the young dragon of Aegon the Younger, but he is probably already bonded to his future rider.
Then I thought of a better reply to Lord Borros:
"Your House Words claim "Ours is the Fury"...but the fact is that Ours is the Fury: The Bronze Fury. Swear fealty to my mother, and she may give you, or your son, control of Vermithor, the Old King's mount, to make your Words ring true."

    • @Seraphina-Rose
      @Seraphina-Rose 2 роки тому +5

I'm not sure the Targaryens want to be handing out nukes to other Houses, even allies. That's so much power to potentially be used against them some day.
What would have made a lot more sense to me is if Lucerys had offered at least the possibility of one of his younger brothers marrying into the Baratheon family. Of course, Lord Borros' daughters look older than Joffrey, and I believe Rhaenyra has other plans for her third son. And Aegon the Younger and Viserys are very young, and a fourth/fifth son is a less attractive offer than Aemond, but that should have been something Rhaenyra would have been prepared to offer.

It is definitely not that cavill is not in love with the Witcher. He IS in love with the source material. This has nothing to do with other projects. The writers are straying from and disrespecting the source material. He has stated over and over that he wants to stick to the source material. Guarantee that S3 strays even more from the source material and cavill got tired of it so he stepped down instead of being a part of ruining something great.

I obviously didn't catch this live, but as I'm watching it, a thought popped in my head about how he said, (king vis) dragons are a power man shouldn't have trifled with, and that is an illusion they control the dragons. Do you think it's possible, this is the reason he rode the dread only once? And there is more to that story than we know. ? Possibly on his ride he thought he was in control and something happened that was completely out of his control, that terrified him, leading him to never ride or try to bond with another. And not wanting to look weak, as the Targaryen who not only couldn't control the dragon, but was scared to ever again, used the age and the fact shortly after the dragon died as an excuse, for not riding more or trying to bond again? ... I mean there is even that little subtle line in like the second episode where he is speaking to alicent, and he kinda makes it sound like a joke, but says sometimes he's rather face down the dread himself than approach his own daughter... Kinda a subtle way of admitting the dragon does scare him...... Idk.. I had that stuck in my head for a while... Didn't know if it sounded plausible. ... Couldn't be a coincidence, the same Targaryen King who said they don't really control the dragons, is also scared of one he had a bond with, and would never ride again after the first and only ride with that dragon.

57:24 Who is a good parent and who is a bad parent? I asked. I actually have contempt for that question. Alicent is not a loving Mother. But she was forced into motherhood at 14. With her father breathing down her nexk, telling her to commit to a treasonous plan. Aegon is not a child. He is a Symbol of Viserys narcissism. And a tool for Otto Hightower.
Rhaenyra is a EXCELLENT MOTHER. Especially, being that she was tasked to become a mother with a homosexual, that would not seed her. She never called him out. She doesn't ask for a royal divorce. She doesn't have him killed. Her children grew up with a loving father, and loving grandfathers. The patronage of the children - doesnt matter. They are recognized by the biggest houses in the world as true kin. Its all the treason that puts her family in peril. And if she were male - they all would have protected the secret. And they are SWORN to protect her and her secrets.
The only Bad Parent I see is Otto Hightower. Is plan is TREASON, REBELLION, WAR. He is right to predict the coming war. Because he is the one starting it! And I also, have to include Corylis to that list. He has no love for Laenor. He doesnt even console him at the funeral. He knows that his son is homosexual. But acts like it will just go away.... When they should have made sure that someone black, from house Valerian, should have been sent to lay with Rhaenyra. IDC who, how or what. A TRUE heir had to come from the FORCED MARRIAGE. They were ALL in on the same lie. But Rhaenyra takes all the blame. At the end of the day, questioning her virtue is a crime against the crown. But, she should have cared more about appearances.

They need a "season stretcher", 2 specials will do.
After Ryan writes season 2, I hope he actually considers this.
That way they can "take their time" with season 2 without people forgetting about the show.
They need time with young Rhaenyra and Harwin Strong, young Laena and Daemon (Laena was done dirty on the show, she was done a huge disservice IMHO).
They could do another special to flesh out the greens, the kids in particular, Helaena and Aegon especially who were not given much this season (but I still have to give props to TGC who gave the guy depth, not that he's good now, not even close, but he's a more well rounded character and waaaaay more three dimensional than his book counterpart).
If they intend to fix the disservice they did Helaena, this would be a good time to do it.
I would not let Sara Hess near this character, she seems to have been fine with taking away her agency and giving her nothing in the process.
She does not exist as her own character/ person anymore, but just a plot device, and they're about to do blood and cheese so that's not cool to turn a character into "just a punching bag" like that.
The quality of the writing was inconsistent, and it's funny because that should be the aspect of the show with the highest quality because of the source material they have to pull from.
Now Helaena is Alys Rivers 2.0 with no character unless Eileen steps in (Because apparently that's Sara Hess's perception of neurodivergent people), Laena is some depressed housewife who commits suicide because "shock value entertainment". Yeeeeeesh!
Unless it's Rhaenyra or Alicent, these female characters are an afterthought and just plot devices for shock value and getting beaten up (Metaphorically or literally).
Edit: Oh and maybe they can go into how Criston Cole got out of the Joffrey Lonmouth situation in those.

Henry NO. I like him but he doesn't fit into the image of Aegon the Conqueror imo. I don't want a muscular Aegon. I've got the impression that Aegon was more of a lean man. And yes, Maegor would fit him better.

I don't get the idea that Aemond supposedly "looks up" to Daemon or even models himself after him.
Daemon wasn't even around for most of Aemond's life. He was on Pentos and then on Dragonstone. Aemond probably only saw him twice in his life so far, and the first time (during Laena's funeral) he didn't pay any attention to his uncle.
The first time he's shown paying any attention to him is in 1x08 when he probably saw him for the first time after 6 years, and his reaction was like "hm, cool move, you're one to keep an eye on" and not any kind of hero worship that the fandom is so eager to project into him.
Aemond would have to actually be a viewer of HotD for that to be true.
Furthermore, how does he model himself after Daemon? Does he want tournaments and glory like Daemon? Nope. He doesn't care about that. Does he go to brothels and have casual sex? No. He doesn't even seem to have any lover. He is instead grim and serious and prides himself on reading about history and philosophy. Maybe Daemon reads that too, I don't know, but he's not known for it.
Aemond has been training really hard... with Criston Cole, who is unlikely to be a Deamon stan teaching him Daemon things. Otto hates Daemon. Alicent doesn't care about Daemon. Viserys might love Daemon but he barely interacts with his kids by Alicent/ Whem, how and why is he supposed to have come by this supposed worship of Daemon, and how does it manifest?
Every similarity there is between Aemond and Daemon is about 1) them looking alike, which is not something Aemond chose or had control over, 2) their names, also something Aemond didn't choose, and 3) GRRM and the show using them as foils and giving them some strong parallels - and strong contrast.

@@PrinceIsot I don't know what the "obvious" reason is, but I don't like all the nonsensical "shocking" twists they've added for absolutely no reason. Joffrey getting smushed at the wedding and Cole not being beheaded immediately, Laena's death, dragons breaking through stone floors. It's all ridiculous and the story didn't need it.
And the addition of the prophecy...ugh. It just robs both Alicent and Rhaenyra of so much agency. I was so looking forward to these two greedy, power hungry women bringing down the Targaryen dynasty, but now they're just falling into war by way of accidents and misunderstandings.

I miss that they dont include a female character that goads a man to do something stupid- its definitively something that happens.
Yes there are a lot of bad men, but you have to remember they partly evolved that way due to female choice- there should be some women that find the behaviour attractive, and especially young women really seem to do (even the ones smart enough not to act on their attraction).

Henry Cavill does not have the acting range to be King Aegon Targaryen, First of His Name. The fact that an actor can pull off a blonde wig does not make them perfect for the role! Thank the gods that casting directors are much smarter than Twitter stans.

Henry Cavill seems like a cool guy and I think he really likes the Witcher universe...that said, dude can't act to save his life and the show was mediocre at best and a mess at worst from the start, all over the place. Game of thrones vibes coming from one side, Xena warrior princess from the other... And the fact is, 90 percent of Geralt's character only shows internally in the books, so no shit the writers of this show didn't know what to do with him, and much less Henry Cavill, which again, lovely guy, but let's be honest, his range as an actor only do for 2 things, Superman without a shirt, and the moustache of that one guy in that mission impossible film 🤷‍♂️.
Him leaving and new writers coming into the show, the resources of all those stupid spin offs nobody cares about diverted into doing the main books justice, it could be all be a good thing at the end ...but again, this is Netflix, and the new actor is too young, so it probably won't see a season 5.
