It's not such a stretch that Daemon thinks they killed Viserys. He just saw less than 48 hours prior that they were keeping him on the milk of the poppy, and the very minute Veserys refused it in favor of keeping a clear head, his first action was to take control back and foil the Green's plotting for Driftmark. Then Daemon and Rhaenyra leave and he's suddenly dead. As the viewers, we know that's not quite how his death went down, but the connection Daemon makes is logical, given the circumstances.

My only gripe with this episode is the people out there freaking out about how "Daemon would never choke his wife!" Really? Why? Because you like him? Because he's charming? Because the book historians claim he "loved" his family? As someone who survived an abusive father who was super charming, this is EXACTLY why we DID NOT get help until he completely lost his mind and everyone noticed it. And even then... so many people went to his defense because he was nice TO THEM.

Maybe this is exactly why they didn’t want Daemon to do this to his family. Because that is his only redeeming characteristic, that he cared about his family and Rhaenerya. Now he has none. So instead of being the grey character he’s supposed to be, he is an all out villain. He’s not how Matt Smith characterised him . But everyone is entitled to their interpretation

I read the scene of Daemon telling Jace he's going to show him the true meaning of loyalty differently. I don't think Daemon meant the kingsguards loyalty. I think he meant his own loyalty. Jace walked in looking all judgemental of Daemon making plans while Rhaenyra was incapacitated (is he really expected to sit around when for all he knows their family is under imminent attack?!) But at that moment when Rhaenyra is most vulnerable, possibly might even die as Laena did, Daemon gets the kingsguards to swear loyalty not only to Rhaenyra but he also reasserts Jace (who he knows is a bastard) as her heir ahead of his own trueborn pure Targaryen sons. That's Daemon's definition of loyalty. Even if he wanted the throne (which I'm not convinced he does), he's not going to usurp his wife, the same way he never tried to usurp his brother, the same way all those years ago when Rhaenyra confronted him at Dragonstone he backed down and returned the egg. I see Daemon as an emotionally stunted man capable of depravity but there's also more depth to him than he gets credit for. He's deeply hurt that Viserys never trusted him when his main goal all along is to protect and preserve what's theirs (yes, even if it means killing people) But hell that's partly why Rhaenyra married him right, to protect her claim? And her behaving like Viserys infuriates Daemon because it was his brother's passivity and allergy to conflict that lead to the Hightowers having so much power in the first place and to the problems Rhaenyra is grappling with now. Also I think Daemon showed a lot of restraint (a lot for Daemon anyway) and kudos to Matt Smith's physical acting because his entire body was like a closed fist seething with anger and a need for violence and vengeance from the time he learned of his brother's death and the Green's betrayal. If it had been anyone else but Rhaenyra standing in his way, Otto would be dead for better or for worst.

With regards to Vermithor,I would have thought that Daemon would be one of the few people alive that the dragon would have met regularly when he was kept at the dragon pit.I think maybe it’s a possibility that the song was familiar to Vermithor and Daemon knows/hopes he will respond to it.

I think what confused me most about Viserys never telling Daemon about the prophecy is that their passion for Valyrian history and heritage was one thing they so strongly shared. They took different angles at how they viewed their heritage and studied/honored it. But I think the prophecy would've actually meant a great deal to Daemon if it had been shared with him by either Viserys or Rhaenyra in a different context.

I shall reiterate that Sean is the fandom's most prized and valuable Unsullied -- because we all know how much he doesn't like Daemon. And yet, he doesn't let his own feelings about Daemon colour how a scene is depicted or its characterisation potential. I love him, he is a breath of fresh air in the sea of all this fandom bickering.
I, for one, love Daemon Targaryen . Have loved the character since before Matt Smith played him. I do not delude myself into thinking that Daemon's a good guy, he definitely is not. But that's not the reason why I love him. A character doesn't have to be good and kind and just, for me to love them. I love Daemon because he is such a complex character who is so very intriguing, and I admit would be a bit challenging to depict.
I think all the ones upset about certain changes made are just upset that things didn't go as they imagined. But I also think their dissatisfaction was in part due to certain scenes that have been cut, with regards to Daemon. But, let's face it -- that is fandom in general. It exists in every fandom / franchise. I hesitate to say anything negative to these fans, because the truth is, they are upset because they're emotionally invested, as we are all. :)
For me, the most biting line in this episode was when Borros Baratheon said "The House of the Dragon does not seem to know who rules it."

Agree. I’d add- anyone who watches this show & thinks- “Well this gives me permission to choke people & commit incest” was merely looking for justification for something they already wanted to do.
Shakespeare’s Othello also features a famous choking scene. People want to dismiss Hot D cause it’s pop culture & widely enjoyed, but Shakespeare’s plays were the GoT events of that time (The Globe sat royals and also “penny groundlings” who were common people who could get in for a penny & get drunk. There were bear fights and prostitution - it was turnt).
We don’t jump on stage to stop her or save her when Juliet stabs herself at the end of Romeo & Juliet. This is because over time people have learned how to regulate emotions so we can distinguish between fictional worlds from survival/real threats we have to act on.
Art is the place that gives us a safe place to explore these complex moral quandaries so we can learn more about ourselves, our values, and others.

Why I hate this scene is that it overshadows Matt’s incredible acting, putting the crown on Rhaenerya’s head, being the 1st to kneel, protecting the island, and reaffirming loyalties. I’m never surprised at his behavior, but sometimes the writers just go too far

The war was started when supporters of Ryanera where imprisoned and hung and Aegon took the crown. Not treating it like a war got her son killed. I took Daemon looking at his brother’s crown very differently. I think it has finally sunk in for him that his brother is in fact dead. Because the last time he had this crown in his hands was when he placed it on his brother’s head. Now Daemon choking Rhaenyra on the other hand (not cool with it) but there was more to it. She starts rambling about something that isn’t their main concern. He’s in full battle mode. He sees Viserys in that moment (weakness and prophecies) and he needs her to be a dragon. But it’s also in that moment you see Rhaenyra really listening to her uncle’s words not fighting back. When she realizes that her father never considered Daemon his heir (well he was waiting for that son), but the moment he decides it’s her he tells her the prophecy. So it cements in her that she was not Daemon’s replacement after all. It’s also the same with Daemon, even from his grave his brother has hurt him. Towards the end of the episode Daemon singing to his grandfathers dragon I thought it was him checking in with these dragons. Making sure they are alive or waking them up. I’d like to think that’s how Jaehaerys approached his dragon by singing to him. And why she sent Luce (Rhaenys would have been the better option) Storms End was the shortest distance from Dragonstone . She probably thought he would be there and back given a day or two. If there was a storm he could stay the night there. When Rhaenyra was 14 (just like Luce) she snuck out to help Otto get the egg back from Daemon. At the time we cheered for her and was dumbfounded that Viserys was angry. That scene hits different now especially after what has happened to Luce. Viserys had every right to be angry with her. Let’s say Daemon did confront her or Caraxes did. He didn’t even know his only child left, instead heard of her return. But what if he was told other news instead like the one we witness Rhaenyra hearing in her final scene.

It’s the purpose of art to generate exactly these kinds of debates. It’s healthy to question the art we consume & ask “Is this violence for a purpose?” I think the scene with Daemon ABSOLUTELY serves a necessary purpose in this context. Very literally, the violence has come home to the domestic space. He is the “blood of the dragon” and like the dragons in this episode, he’s not always in control of his own emotions AND he lives in a society which constantly reenforces that violence is the primary solution to problems. By no means is this couple portrayed as healthy - they’re compelling characters not models for behavior.
Art is the space we can explore these types of debates & questions so we understand people totally unlike us (and learn our own values).
Emma D’arcy & Matt Smith jokingly but accurately said the Targ problem is “They don’t talk to one another” or go to family therapy.

I feel like Daemon going to sing to Vermithor is a call back to Episode 8 when he goes spelunking for dragon eggs. When he comes up with the clutch he just looked so happy, practically giddy! I think down in the caves with the dragons is his safe space, a place he possibly could have found in childhood, so after finding out about the prophecy, he ran off to the one place he knows A; no-one will bother him, and B; he seems to take genuine pleasure in being. Maybe the lullaby wasn't for Vermithor, maybe it was for himself.

Maybe Alicent is saying we once loved each other, and I want you to live. Maybe the flea with your children hint, literally take a page out of Nymeria’s book and follow her example. But mostly the love they once shared.

Under the circumstances, it was naïve of Rhaenyra to send Lucerys by himself. The second mistake she made was she didn't offer Borros a dignified way out of supporting the Greens. She should have sent Lucerys some sort of offering for House Baratheon. The baby just looked like a premature still birth. If Rhaenyra was 3-4 months along, the head is oblong in shape. I wish the show had clarified that the still borns were covered in scales, with a hole in their chest, tiny wings etc. Apparently it's just propaganda.

It’s still murder if you knowingly use deadly force without the intention to kill. Even first degree. Assuming self-defense isn’t at play, If you punch someone, they fall over, hit their head and die, that’s murder. It doesn’t matter if you were just trying to break their nose or something. So, just to be clear, what Aemond did is murderous, regardless of the intentions.
Also, the motor cycle analogy is good, but replace the motor cycle with an F16 that happens to go rogue and fire missiles occasionally. Then it works.

Where is all the magic in a world with more dragons then ever before? What are your thoughts on an Old Valyria show done with animation. The budget would be a lot less and lend to using more of the magic, mystery and beastly aspects of this realm. Westeros seems a lot less developed then Easteros. Would be cool to explore a period of time where Targaryans are the lesser houses in a civilization 100x stronger then westeros is now. Also could lead into the real events behind the first long winter ( as unsullied) wasn't there an actual Ling winter in Westeros?

I sincerely hope that the great success of HOTD will inspire HBO to have 2-3 ASOIAF shows running all at the same time, with no overlap in when they are played. Maybe it will take another year or two, but it'd be great if we had ASOIAF content being released practically year round in different forms and focused on different eras and characters. Obviously, I want GRRM focused on writing, but I will still support all the shows if this is the way he wants to explore the world as he seemingly has struggled to really get the books to where he wants them to go (not surprising, writing a Magnum Opus is never easy and he has the added weight of so much displeasure from the fandom about the way the show ended that could detract from the books' success if he doesn't wrap up storylines well - even if not how fans predict).
