  • Slowly getting things in order with the new SkiDoo Skandic snow machine and cleaning up after the last snow storm. And that really has been the only "real snowfall" of the year so far. Temperatures remain higher than normal and the near term forecast has zero snow or cold in it. Starting my 11th year living off-grid in remote Alaska here on my tiny mountain!

What a beautiful sunny day you have to get your work done. I can sure hear the wind moving the windmill. Yet you seem to handle the cold well. The improvements you are making will make life easier with your new sled.
I wonder, are you doing any trips to Talkeetna to bring in supplies?

After you remove the side foot rests would you be able to cut holes or slots in them to allow the snow to fall thru? A dimple die would be perfect if you could find a way to do that. Harbor freight has a pneumatic die set for DIY or have it done while your away. Thank you for all your hard work and time!

Wind blown snow. Lots of junk/dirt /debris in it. Plus even with a heavy fresh snowfall with no wind it takes about 2 hours to pack/melt and boil water into just one 5 gallon pot on the wood stove. It’s just easier to get water from the lake.

This doesn't seem terribly rewarding I don't know what you gain.
You're not at home for a month then you come back and have to try to make up for that whole month you've lost which must take you at least a week or so.
You're not a young man, if something happens to you it could be days if not weeks if anyone even knows.
I don't know I find this kind of existence fruitless.
If it works for you I'm happy as I've told you I don't mind being off-grid but I don't want to be completely isolated and need a helicopter to get to my home.
To me it seems very impractical.
I'll continue to watch you but not because I wish I had your life on want to live there but because I can't believe the unnecessary work you give yourself.
