- Sold the 2015 SkiDoo Tundra to my neighbor and my mission is to get the machine up to his cabin on a challenging hilltop. Trail needs work first. Then more snow. I've also need to start my annual trail maintenance on 11 miles of trail. Thanks for watching!

I'm a beginner rider. have (3) older sleds, 2010 AC M8 w/153 track, 2001 RMK 144" track & a 95 XLT 600 triple w/133" track. Live in the Rocky Mountains and by no means a good rider. I often get stuck and have to dig myself out. I can't imagine having never ridden a sled before and having to navigate that terrain by yourself. I sure hope the guy who purchased your sled is in good shape and capable of fixing it at his place and on the trail. I have a feeling you might be helping him until he gets comfortable and more experienced.
37:29 million dollar view!!
He is a newbie. He will learn the way I did. Lots of sweat and tears. My biggest recommendation to him is to keep the four stroke upright as much as possible and to get some sort of mountain sled to blaze the trail initially. Then after one night the packed trail will freeze and allow easier transit with the tundra work sled. I’ll help him out as much as I can. (Also told him to watch many snowmobile “how to” videos)
Keep up the good work. I've been doing the same. Love to see different ways of doing things
I’m a retired mariner, living off grid in Maine. Recently got my road improved enough to get a well driller in and a well, lugging water in the winter is no fun. Just found your channel, incredible views and interesting content.
I'm glad you found my channel, hope you enjoy the videos!
OMG I am exhausted just watching you. I sure hope he paid you top dollar! That’s a ton of work. Good luck. Take us for a ride up it when you are done!
I’ll take you all up there and show you his cabin if he approves. There’s still more work to do. Almost made it yesterday except not enough snow and I spun the track down to frozen dirt. Now that section is ice. More snow on the way though!
The opening of this video was awesome! Love seeing the views from your cabin but when coupled with a clear night sky and the northern lights, it is beyond incredible! You make the chainsaw maintenance look simple. Fingers crossed that it can be that easy as I have one that I need to rebuild. It has never worked right and was expensive to buy. I bought one to replace it but would like to rebuild the defective one. I need to install removable gutters on my cabin but have it it off, not sure why, but definitely on the ever growing to do list. I also agree with you about the addition of a pump to the mix of getting water (or in my case removing water) only adds a level of complexity that is not necessary. Great video!
Thanks for the nice comments! What brand and model is the chainsaw you’re having issues with?
Good fresh air and loads of exercise for you, enjoy.
Oh yes! For sure with all the trail work.
I'm spending my down time after knee surgery watching all your videos. Thanks for a new one today.I enjoyed watching you
swap oil pump on saw Good to see someone use their hands .Thanks again
Hope that knee gets better soon! Thanks for watching.
Hi Ed.
As much as I wanted to buy a cabin with a piece of land in Alaska, I decided that I won't be able to deal with the harsh winters. I used to live in Boston many years ago, but I've been living in Florida for many years as well and my blood had "thinned out ". Imagine, with temperatures in the low 50s a couple of weeks ago, I got hit with a horrible cold and fever. Lol
I know you enjoy living in that piece of heaven on earth, but i see all the work that you have to do to keep it going.
That been said, I will continue to admire the beauty of Alaska through your videos, that I never miss.
Thank you for another amazing video. Until the next.....take care.
I hear ya, Florida weather is a different kind of struggle too! Too hot for me anymore down there.
Hi Ed. I can’t express how much I enjoy your videos. From the music to northern light. Just awesome. Very interesting, who would think that this older women would find watching you do an oil change on your generator interesting. But I did and always look forward to your next video. Stay safe.
@@elizabethmckenzie6977 Glad you enjoy my content. Thanks for watching!
Ed, what a lot of work you are putting in for your neighbor to get that sled up to him. It is very kind of you to do that. Though I believe you will be glad to complete this project!
I love future thinking about the future improvements you are working towards at your place.
Enjoy the rest of your time home Ed. I'm hoping you get more snow to make getting around easier for you.
Until next time, be safe and enjoy your time home.
Freezing rain last night. Not good. Ice everywhere.
@MountainMariner that's not so good for your plans moving forward. I'm confident you will keep busy regardless.
👋Ed😊 Love the way you explain the Chain saw repairs 👍
Talk about Heavenly views. You are a very Blessed Man Mr Ed. Thank you for sharing your Paradise.
Ed, I think you live a little closer to heaven than all of us, absolutely beautiful! thank you for sharing!
This area of Alaska is truly special.
Nice to see a bit more of your "neighborhood". Definitely very neighborly to clear a path to get the sled up there! Take care!
Keep up the good work. Most don't understand the work involved, to live where you do.
Yep. It’s a different life up here.
Prepping that trail is an awful lot of work. Sure it will be worth it. Pace yourself. Happy for you, being able to be home for Christmas....
Very impressive opening segment from star trails to the northern lights then the nice transition to the mountain vistas. Those video and drone captures are the best.
Quite a chore cutting trail, especially at elevations.
It’s a good free workout courtesy of Mother Nature.
Never get tired of those views, enjoy your time home!!
Me neither! I'm trying to but the weather is not cooperating very well. High winds, low snow, freezing rain last night. Creeks not frozen over like they should be this time of year...
I was thinking "time to to the gutter down dance" last video. Take care. Bob in Nevada
I knew it should be taken down but needed the rain water last time home up until the last day.
You are definitely King of the mountain, Ed! Absolutely, beautiful drone footage. We're taking a break from working on the fence. Wood quality is so cruddy in the lower 48. Smh. So, I snuck on here (taking a lunch break) and noticed you uploaded! Merry Christmas to you!!! 🇺🇸
Merry Christmas to you too! And thanks for watching another video!
Thanks for sharing another great video Ed.Rugged outdoors and rugged jobs to do. Always intrigued by the amount of work you do to live in your paradise.
That looks like a lot of trail clearing to be done. I’m excited to see them
And now I have a layer of ice on everything out here. No snow, all freezing rain. I'm guessing you have more ice down your way?
@ just a little bit but not too bad
The Northern Lights are just magnificent! What a beautiful piece of paradise you live in! I never get tired of the view!
I’m lucky to have the northern lights in my backyard.
Welcome back .dave🇬🇧🇬🇧that was a mission and a half! Well done !
Much more trail awaits! Need to head out once these winds come down. More snow coming down today!
Hi Ed. Cool anorak. Thanks for the very enjoyable videos. We've had a ton of snow, but now a melting week. 👍😎🇨🇦❄️🌞💦
Wadmal wool from Sweden. Micklagard Anorak Abisko. Very nice addition to my wool clothing collection.
That closing shot was amazing
@@OldSchoolAlaska Thanks to DJI and GoPro. I just pressed a record button.
@MountainMariner never forget the presence of mind to hit record!!
I never realized you had a close neighbor. I bet he’ll appreciate the hard work.
Yup. There's a story to the whole thing and maybe one day on a video my neighbor will share it.
I’m so glad I found your channel a month ago . I have caught up on all the videos . Winter is hard in Alaska , but it’s all worth it to live in this beautiful place . Thank you for another great video . Btw looks like you dropped weight !
I’m still around 230 pounds. But one of these days I’ll get down around 205 and stay there. Thanks for watching.
Hello 👋🏻 Ed. Boy never a dull day at your place! Loved the intro! You’re the king of the hill- lol. Really enjoyed watching the video. Thanks for sharing 😊
Absolutely stunning shot of ending view of your cabin lit up and all the distant mountains! Yesterday I had my own encounter with devil's club! YEOW! Cursed stuff!
I always enjoy seeing you at your place doing all the things you do besides being educational I learn even though I probably won’t ever use that knowledge because of my age but hey you never know what tomorrow might bring. Love from Idaho
You never know what tomorrow might bring, indeed. Thanks for watching!
Yay!! A new video! I love them…Merry Christmas Ed! 🌧️🎄🎅🏻
@@cbass2755 Merry Christmas to you also.
Love your channel ❤. Alaska looks stunning.
Thanks for the comment and watching my channel! Tell your friends!
Nice video. Of all the years I spent working in the north and in the Arctic (summer only) I have never seen the northern lights. You have an awesome spectacle! It’s on my bucket list. Maybe Fairbanks area or ??? Thanks for those spectacular scenes - from Hells Canyon, Frank.
@@outpostcamp Fairbanks is a great place to visit and see the lights.
Ed, are you cross country skiing back to your cabin after you drop it off? That's a lot of work! I hope that neighbor knows how lucky he is to have you as a neighbor. Good to see you and take care, D
I have an AccuRite system now but I need to install a new Davis VantageVue system this spring. It's in the workshop just waiting to get installed.
So beautiful there! Thank you! Do you get a chance to catch any seafood while inbetween times at work ?
No time for fishing the past ten years or so. Although I do enjoy fishing quite a bit. Maybe soon I’ll hit a few lakes with rainbow trout this winter.
Not an easy job in all that snow - don't suppose anything is easy when living there, but well worth it I am sure☺
Everything becomes harder in the winter. But I like it that way.
You’ll have that trail to the neighbor’s cabin whipped into shape in no time. Trail maintenance seems to be your forte. Maybe the trail to town will have time to freeze by then.
Freezing rain last night. Not good.
@@MountainMariner Well, shucks.
Why didn’t your neighbor help you? I thought we’d get a chance to me another mountain man 🤣😄👍
@@cbass2755 He only vacations there. Not presently there.
Might be worth investing in some gutters designed for Alaska, snow slide from the roof goes over the top of them but water goes in them.
I'm always looking for ways to improve the cabin. Maybe gutters are in the future!
I saw a video where he did put gutter on. Did they not work out Ed?
@@cbass2755 I think the ones designed for snow zones are called "seamless gutters" but I could be wrong. They are mounted and designed so that water goes in them but snow slides over them so they don't get damaged.
New sub here! Fantastic views in the beginning of the video bud. What editing program do you use ??
Final Cut Pro 11
What kind of weather station do you have Ed? I just purchased an Ambient 2000. Hoping I made a good choice.
Frank and frank Spank and tank :-) Why not using heliservice next time he is there to transport the skidi to the other side? A branch pliers- with a70 centimeter handle is faster and lesser work for so many smal stick on the racing way. Melde mich ab
New snow machine is too heavy for the R44 to sling load. I could hire a heavy lift helicopter but that's gets pricey.
@@MountainMariner my wifes oncel was in the heli service in CA. I do know that that days one hour heli high end monster was ca. 4000 CA Dollars. I understand the reality of hard work fighting through the tundra. I hate such work :-) Its a work for a company of 100 soldiers
Do Have a list of things you plan to each time you come home?
Yes. I'm big on list keeping and getting logistics right. If I forget something I really need, there is no quick fix for that.
Been wondering about something. Once you get the trail cleared and take the snow machine over to your neighbors place, how are you going to get back home?
My feet and a pair of snowshoes.
Is the elevation high there?
Not really. I'm at 2000' elevation.
just wondering why you need so many snowmobiles. could you explain pls. Thanks
I only have three technically right now. Two mountain snowmobiles, those are used in deep snow to blaze a path for the utility/work snowmobiles to use. They don't have towing capabilities. One utility/work sled is to tow sleds on packed trails (made by the mountain snowmobiles.). But next year I'll get another Tundra utility/work sled and be back up to four snowmobiles total. Redundancy if there are mechanical issues.
Are you in Alaska?
Yes.
How come you don't have a compost toilet?
I can't imagine using the outhouse when there's 3 ft of snow out and it's 40 below zero.
Outhouse suits me just fine.
Is the snow thinning out?
Yes it is but more snow on the way starting today and through the week.
