@@kapayasiame3632 well thats not explained but master roshi and other mentors have always tried to teach goku the basics of ultra instinct which is instinctively
It's great to expand the scope of the series and have more characters doing stuff than Goku and Vegeta. Power scaling is not as important as actually being good. They did the best they could with what they were given and just decided to say "screw it, it doesn't make sense with how the series has worked so far but the internal logic is ruining the story potential of the show anyway."
It’s ironic. Roshi said it himself, “When you get so caught up in an enemy’s power, you’ll be as green as the day we met” & that’s exactly what this video is about
Exactly. For example Goku in the manga recklessly using Kaio-Ken with Blue, Goku thinking its more power he needs but no its how you "move" and not being caught up with your opponents power. Every one of Goku's teachers have stated this.
In the Cell Saga, Roshi was mad at himself for not able to do anything when Tenshinhan fled off to where Cell is. I think he started to train secretly after that 😆
Hahah, that would be funny theory if it was possible. ....He fought in Resurrection of F and only had the power to fight Frieza grunts. Impressive for him, sure, but he wasn't pulling the numbers Tien was by a LONG shot.
Roshi in Z: I’m retiring because all my students (even Yamcha) have surpassed me at this point. Roshi in Super: jk, I’m actually still way stronger than any other human lol!
I think he was being nice to them. Sure they did learn his main techniques quite quickly but master roshi has very deep sleeves filled with techniques and tricks that would take a lifetime to master.
Roshis sister is Fortune Teller Baba and she seems to be well connected with otherworldly places and people. I wouldn’t be surprised if she assisted Roshi in his continued training.
Considering how strong he got in super, this begs the question how strong would roshi be in the future timeline considering how many years have passed.
In Z, are the Z Fighters who are humans ever SS level? If not, how did they survive hits from the Androids or Cell? How did Krillin hurt SS Goku with a rock? Were they restraining themselves (willing holding back their power in battle or during moments of relaxation/comfort) or is Z's power scaling also broken?
@@JustADemon2023their logic is that ~there is no ki control~ so it's very clear that Mr Satan could have beaten future androids because he beated android 18 in one punch at the tournament and he even survived one hit from cell so, according to the video, Mr Satan is at super Saiyan full power Goku level
I like to think of it as since he's lived for so long, Roshi can easily evaluate all of the Z-fighters training methods and improve upon and utilized them for his own training. Like Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo are masters in their own right, but Roshi dwarfs their age. He can probably easily decipher everything wrong with their fighting styles and what's holding them back kinda like how Whis and Beerus can. Roshi would probably be Whis and Beerus's favorite student since he just sorta "gets it."
Yeah, that is pretty much Roshi's power he is truly s master, knows more about fighting than anyone except perhaps Wis and Beerus, and has the honed skills to put all they knowledge into practice.
Piccolo is much older as far as experience goes, I know in age Piccolo is even younger than Goku but when he merged with Kami he absorbed all of Kami's experience, and remember that Kami has been around since Roshi's old master was still alive, king Piccolo was a thing because of Kami, so Piccolo should have the experience and wisdom of a sage but the creators had done piccolo dirty until orange piccolo
@@ungido30Yes, but there is no explanation of Piccolo actually trying to... well train, until Piccolo JR. It feels it was more or less a 'Freeza' situation, he just was that strong from the get go. Then again Kami did train Goku so he does have martial arts training, so yeah it's... weird.
With the Jiren thing in the manga, I take it as Jiren kinda sizing up Roshi to know just the right amount of power to use without killing him, and when he grazed Roshi's chin he knew how much to use and quickly got rid of Roshi. Roshi was dodging punches Jiren thought would've been enough to take him out and probably blocked with his arm to get a more feel for how much force, if he could blow away golden Frieza and Ssjb Goku & Vegeta with a pinky he couldve easily squished Roshi like a litteral bug 🐛. And from Roshi's perspective, he's not worried about dying cause of the rule, and if Jiren does end up killing him, he at least takes the biggest threat out with him. At least, that's how I kinda saw it, I kinda felt like that's something Roshi might've done given the situation.
I agree, also SSB is said to have perfect Ki control so Goku fighting Krillin and him stacking up to Goku was most likely just Goku using enough power to test him
@midgetydeath maybe any other series, but DB isn't that well thought out, and the power system is a mess with how easily they multi their power even though basic training and gains are inconsistent hell they hardly need to even, I can't even fathom the humans being namek Frieza's lvl with the system they put in place Krillin after his massive boost from Guru was still like x1000 weaker than Frieza and from what we seen of him i cant see him getting something like am equivalent of ssj20 lvl of power in a few yrs and they knew it too, and stop using power lvls it's always been a number game for the series
I don’t get how y’all still misinterpret how this story wrote UI and Jiren. It’s even DOUBLE DOWNED in SuperHero that Jiren’s ki control is so calm and focused that he can suppress himself enough to where someone like Roshi (who’s also skilled in his own right) can outmaneuver him with a technique SIMILAR TO ULTRA INSTINCT. It was a scene meant to display true martial arts capability vs a character that prioritizes brute raw strength because he lost his master and neglected his teachings
That doesn't make any sense, we know the z fighters know this control and even others, but there no way. Jiren gonna miss a punch. Homie moves faster than light.
Roshi is like fine whiskey, the longer he ages the stronger he gets. Personally Loved the Roshi rampage. he has the scrappy old dude vibe common in manga, and im here for it. after all, he did train most of the most powerful warriors in the universe. combine that with storing up his nut and his power woupd have to be INSANE
Personally I'd say it's hard to tell since Roshi imitiated UI and took some hits from Jiren. Yet he was struggling little bit with Moro's henchman who Inst comparable to Base Goku.
base Goku scales below small caliber bullet level that his 10 power level child version was able to tank unguarded with no damage. Roshi slaps susano'o UI Goku
My issue is that Goku and the others aren’t just stronger and faster then Roshi, by the end of Dragonball all of them surpassed him in the martial arts aspect as well.
Goku: How did you become THIS powerful? Roshi: I stopped smoking. Gohan: You mean that EVERYTHING we went through, EVERY humiliation and death we suffered could have been prevented by you... not smoking? Roshi: Yep. If I knew how much tobacco was holding me back, I never would have started. Bulma: Huh, I wonder how powerful I can become. *tosses pack in the trash* 5 years later.... Frieza Black: PLEASE! PLEASE HAVE MERCY, I BEG YOU! Bulma: [demonic voice] NO MERCY FOR THE WEAK!
Roshi said in the Tournament of Power he was inspired to get stronger because he was proud of his pupils Goku and Krillin. They definitely over powered him. If they would have gotten him around the strength of Krillin and gave him some new technique similar to the Mafuba, that would have made more sense.
Doesn’t matter when he started. It’s dumb and he hit his ceiling at the end of DB. This isn’t a ‘bit’ stronger. This is literally hundreds of thousands of times stronger when just becoming twice as strong is normally a big deal in Z. It’s insane
@@famalam943Bad take doesn’t matter and your dumb, who are you to decide what is possible. Toriyama decided that and it’s that. Either 1, Roshi was always this strong just rusty or Roshi trained the latter is possible and probably is true
Why didnt he train to prepare for the possibility of Dk Piccolo being freed? Or the Red Ribbon army invading his island? Weird how he can just get thousands of times stronger in only a few years yet couldnt reach Dk Piccolo levels in hundreds of years
In the tournament of power, one of the rules was you couldn't kill anyone. Roshi being so weak would force everyone to hold back or be disqualified. Jiren understood this. Roshi going for Jiren was great writing. The wise old man, giving his all, up against the strongest, knowing if he was killed his universe would win.
I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that Master Roshi, even with his experience as a master of martial arts, can be on the level of super saiyan blue, even with the inconsistent power scaling of dragonball super.
Yea it just feels lazy imo, it would have been different if we saw these characters training but it seems like the characters are just as strong as the story needs them to be at any time. And the “they trained off screen” explanation isn’t sufficient for me personally. Show me this training don’t just tell me they trained
No Matter how strong A person/thing/being gets the elder that taught/raise/with will always have their number. Only person that Roshi cant out wit as outer aliens, Beerus, and Whis. Plus his regen/immortality is different than Buus,
I've said it once and i'll say it again: there's no 'god ki', only ki control. It can't be sensed because it involves complete ki control, not allowing to leak. The ritual worked because goku was forced condensed ki of 6 saiyans into one and make it his own
I thought as God Ki as a super condensed form of regular Ki, but instead of sensing it, you feel that pressure. it's like regular Ki is the air at the top of a mountain, and then God Ki is the same as the water at the become of the ocean (for that feeling of pressure analogy). Similar but still fundamentally different. Though maybe condensed air would be better analogy? You'd need a really strong container (strong body) with really good insulation and a seal (great ki control) in order to condense regular ki down into God ki. Which could explain 'how' Vegeta eventually acquired God ki, and why Vegeta + Goku only have small amounts of it (compared to actual deities), and why SSB initially was a huge energy waster when transforming (as they'd condense their ki into god ki, but it was constantly being released/escaping, so lots of energy loss. Why also perfected Blue was a thing in the manga)
Here's my thing. I think it's actually very simple. And it's that after Super Saiyan Blue became a thing, Dragon Ball super just disregarded the base form character levels. It tried to go back to characters that could fight regardless of how strong they were in the sense of power level. It uses a simple formula which is basically saying this character is stronger than this other character, but that doesn't mean that the weaker character couldn't at least try to fight them. (Like Krillin and Gohan fighting frieza to help goku charge the spirit bomb) And I think the reason for this is because they put so many feets into Super Saiyan God during Battle of gods that they didn't know how to top it. So now it just seems like Super Saiyan Blue is just a stronger Super Saiyan as opposed to this form should be insane levels above Super Saiyan.
Roshi is one of my favorite character, always thought he was awesome, perversion aside, but Super really went overboard with him. Though I do like the idea of him having the basics of UI down since if any human has the mindset and experience required to learn the most basic foundation of UI without actually tapping into UI, Roshi does. Really though, the manga could've done a better job getting that across without having him fight Jiren or having absurd power ups. Ahh screw it, I like the badass old master trope too much to overly care. Guess I'll just head-canon him secretly training in the time chamber on and off for, say, a total of 100 or more years, thus exploiting his eternal life span.
Roshi wouldn't want to fly even if he had the options to do so - which he does. But cuz flying takes energy and seems to be the kinda guy with no matter how strong he'd get he'd want to store away as much power as he can before a fight.
when he gets rid of that pride he will become even more powerful if you notice when everyone started to fly their energy levels grow and progress much faster
0:48 but Frieza literally says the soldiers seemed to have hit a decline in his absense implying that they were weaker than the soldiers he had previously.
Listening to that, I feel like you're gaslinting yourselves thinking that dbs powerscaling make any sense at all. It does not. That's not a big deal, we can enjoy something even if there is some (or a lot) of plot holes or bullshit. You don't have to make it seems like it was all planed by toyotaro or toei animation. Toryama is a genius who can write freely as he goes and somehow, his story made sense, but the same cannot be said for the exects at toei.
@jasontoddler7680 it's all feets if that's the case yamcha and gang shouldn't have been running the fade of the ginyu force that recently was dawg walking vegeta. So don't go saying oohhh supers scaling is terrible too bad it's not like the golden age of z when our generation who watched z was hearing the same thing from people who was nostalgia blind by og dragonball
@CydonianKnights11 and yes, in YOUR opinion, dragonball has never fallen off. If super was so trash, why was it THE ONLY anime to actually break the internet (crashing multiple premium anime streaming services, including bootleg ones on Chrome) you always hear somone now saying an amime "has broken the internet" but none have actually done that like super did not evan the peek hipe of attack on titan demon slayer and one piece was able to do it. I think the explanation is far simpler: Roshi, in the background at some point, found the dragonballs and wished that his power and strength consistently kept level with the strongest fighters. He just didn't tell any one he did this.
That was a lie. In contrast Hit and Champa say he actually got stronger from running around. He simply lied in the TOP to make others drop their guard.
@@universalspaceexpeditioner8259 Not drop their guard. To make them use less powerful attacks and suppress their power because of the worry of killing him.
So many people seem to forget that Jiren, especially the manga version, is *literally* a superhero. A grumpy one at that, sure, but an actual superhero. If Goku has all of Superman’s cheerfulness and compassion but lacks his proper moral code, Jiren is the other half of the equation. Although he doesn’t really like people, all life is sacred to this guy. He would never have risked to kill Roshi. He approached him with the caution of a dinosaur trying to fight an ant without killing it, which is why Roshi was able to dodge a few hits and make his demonstration to Goku.
So just let cell and buu destroy the world when he could not have only helped, but wiped the floor with them? Him always being that strong is a ridiculous thought.
I like to think Roshi started training again after trunks warned of the android attack. Having a few years to train in secret just in case. He also kept telling Goku and krillin to never stop training, that they have to maintain their training as much as possible. Roshi being retired, just means he does not teach officially anymore, but still instructs and could easily have been training for a while. He is just mostly a gag character so up until the tournament of power, dragon ball never bothered giving him an on screen training ark. Most of his dodging and attacks could be attributed to the fact he is a martial arts master and utilizes his knowledge and skills of all the fights he has seen and how many people he had dealt with in his past. Jiren for example is a bit of a brawler, he just has immense speed and strength and defense, which allows him to out pace everyone else. But Roshi uses skill to make up for his lack of speed and defense, using his enemy’s strength against them and doing circles around them. Of course he clearly has power to back up these skills, skill alone won’t mean crap. If you are not fast enough to see your enemy attack, then you can not counter them. I am not upset at Roshi being strong, I’ve wanted him to have a bigger purpose as Goku’s master, rather than JUST being a pervert who occasionally gives advice, but someone with useful skills and can back up his title of master.
To be fair, it wasn't that Roshi was at that power level or speed. His opponents were under the stipulation that they couldn't kill Roshi. That forced them to lower their speed and power to his level. All this showed was that, given the same power level, Roshi was the far superior fighter. It in no way means he was anywhere near their power level, as directly stated in the manga itself and in this video at 0:08. So many people don't get that.
The handling of the tournament of power was a mess. The worse part is that they could have easily had their cake and eat it if they took the time to emphasize the non-killing rules. All the strong combatant being forced to hold back is a pretty good excuse for allowing the weaker fighter to shine. Like making clear that Jiren could turn Roshi to dust at any point, but that he's forced to restrain himself and delivers soft blow that Roshi can survive.
From the thumbnail, in my memory it was Toppo that Roshi was fighting. I must have completely tuned out how bad the scaling was back when it aired 😂😂 They should’ve made an episode of Roshi, Kaio-Sama, and old Kaioshin training in the afterlife and doing some peeping after it 😂
@ He has no synergy with the rest of the gang, isn’t really a fighter, and doesn’t have Roshi’s level courage and spirit. Obviously Goku would trust Roshi more for the job.
The power level of Super Saiyan states are relative since they are simply power multipliers. SSJ3 multiplies base Goku’s power by 400 times. I don’t think Roshi is even as strong as base Goku, so he can never be as strong as SSJ3 Goku.
Bro stfu up he not even stronger than krillin let alone ssj3 learn he could not even handle moro henchmen that base goku one shoot but he ssj3 level give me a break lol
This doesn't convince me that Master Roshi is stronger than Super Saiyan blue, it is probably from his fighting experience. A person may have more experience in a sport, doesn't mean he is stronger and not a guarantee that that person would win because of experience.
@@QaamansLandin arm wrestling, you could be stronger than someone who knows techniques and he will probably win, it's not guaranteed since you could overpower his techniques but it won't be easy, it's the whole point from master roshi, it doesn't matter if Jiren was stronger than Goku, with the ultra instinct Goku nailed to get to his level and surpass him since it's basically the "ultimate" form of martial arts in dragon ball
I wont even try to debate the anime Manga jiren was obviusly holding back he can't kill roshi or gets eliminated and if he so much as blinks with a fraction of his power he kills roshi he had to hold back to a level close to roshi to eliminate him without killing him @@QaamansLand

@@BESTMOAD exactly my point tho lmao? Only reason he is blue level is bc his power scaled to what new enemies goku and vegeta have and how strong they have gotten? It's simply to make them relevant with no little to no explanation
Roshi is a few hundred years old, of course he has a lot of insane hidden techniques and he mastered the technique that killed his master that being the evil containment wave.
Roshi is a witch!! So is his, sister...? Huh. I’m convinced that he’s actually cheating, like in that one filler episode with the plants that give him his, immortality? Maybe, he’s only strong because he’s secretly siphoning energy from all his students. Just a crazy idea, like the idea that ROSHI CAN BE THAT STRONG IN SUPER!!!
And that, ladys and gentlemen, is how you write a fighting series. Not by rigidly measuring everyones powers with numbers and then generating a huge inflation whenever you want to power up a character but rather by simplying allowing weak characters to have a chance against stronger opponents by strategezing and using thoughtful techniques.
@@QaamansLandyep, because doesn't matter how much you strategize, if your opponent moves 40000 times faster than you, you gonna get kicked in the balls and lose
Going by this bs logic Yamcha was able to tank surrounding of beerus and champa and still was able to move to goal whipe even goku and vegeta needed defense against their clash despite being already weakened by cheap shots by other team He was also able to flicker awy beerus who tanked ssj 3 kamehameha straight on at that point 💀
It’s likely that Roshi has always been holding back and training in secret. It’s also possible that Roshi understands that 1. This is Goku’s journey and 2. Saving the day whenever things got tough would have denied Goku the growth he needed in his quest to fight the strongest.
Have you read tales of demons and gods? The mc has a skill/technique thag binds him and his friends so when one of them level up or become stronger everyone of his friends that was included in that skill also level up or become stronger. it doesn't surprise me Roshi is such a beast, he's accomplished so much. Everyone else in the show can dig deep and unlock their potential so I like to think he got the same power boost, I mean he is over 300 years old and did blow up the moon, he definitely has it in him to improve and get stronger, he's like mystical.
“Never even implied that had trained.” My dude… it’s Master Roshi. It’s a literal, immortal, ancient martial arts master. He trains EVERY DAY. He Taught Goku. It’s in his bones, my dude. If you don’t know that, you don’t know Dragon Ball.
pretty sure roshi states to the bird man in ToP that the bird was stronger he just lacked combat experience. meaning roshi is not near as strong as half these claims from roshi himself in ToP
Excellent video. It still amazes me though that people in 2023 haven't realized this yet. The way the story goes, in 10 years in canon everyone will be relative to Goku, and this includes Pan, Bulla, Roshi, Chaotzu.
Ok... Hear me out. I agree that the power scaling in super is ridiculous. I agree that Roshi's power jump is ridiculous, but let me play devil's advocate. Roshi is able to dodge attacks from characters like Frost and Jiren because they are pulling their punches. Think about it. Force = mass x acceleration. If they attack him at full speed, he would certainly die, which would disqualify them from the TOP. Roshi, on the other hand, doesn't have to hold back at all.
Y'all need to watch Roshi's tournament fights in DB again. His transformation ability vastly changes his power/speed. He has the inner monolog trying to decide how much to use im his fights in the tournaments. When bulma scoutered him, that was his most suppressed form. Especially if he was wearing one of his weighted shells. When we first see him transform and blowup the mountain, he says that usimg that form drains him, yet in the tournament he is able to blow up the moon, and keep going. It syands to reason that Roshi has worked to perfect his transformation like Goku and Gohan did to prefect SS1 to not drain energy.

Then again Kami did train Goku so he does have martial arts training, so yeah it's... weird.
I have a hard time thinking of it that way since goku figured out the kamehameha almost instantly and it took roshi 50 years.
@locdogg86 yeah, but Goku's Kamehameha is not perfect. He just dumps a boatload of ki into it. Roshi's is perfectly smooth and focused.
Yep, Roshi was doging attacks equivalent to his level.
yeah lmfao people out here really acting like jiren was trying against roshi
I agree, also SSB is said to have perfect Ki control so Goku fighting Krillin and him stacking up to Goku was most likely just Goku using enough power to test him
Really? What I got from it was that control and skill in using ki is dramatically more important than raw amounts of it.
The stream really opened my eyes to the effort that can be put into these
I don’t get how y’all still misinterpret how this story wrote UI and Jiren.

I just think Jiren was holding back as not to kill him
In the tournament of power, one of the rules was you couldn't kill anyone.
No shit?
Yea it just feels lazy imo, it would have been different if we saw these characters training but it seems like the characters are just as strong as the story needs them to be at any time.

Roshi doesn't have regen...
...I have a feeling that a lot don't know that Roshi was killed in combat by King Piccolo, the same Piccolo defeated by 15yo Goku
Goku has been trained by Kami and King Kai who Roshi even said are better than him
I've said it once and i'll say it again: there's no 'god ki', only ki control.
@luamanlabs yes! that's how i thought of it as well
you know how he got that strong?
Watching aerobics everyday, with the door locked.
(Like Krillin and Gohan fighting frieza to help goku charge the spirit bomb)
And I think the reason for this is because they put so many feets into Super Saiyan God during Battle of gods that they didn't know how to top it. So now it just seems like Super Saiyan Blue is just a stronger Super Saiyan as opposed to this form should be insane levels above Super Saiyan.
So technically roshi has the most potential in the series
More than Frieza and Cell and Gohan
If bro does ONE pushup be could become too powerful.
Bro is literally Saitama
No, that goes to Broly.
Master roshi been training in front of our eyes all these years and you all can't see it.
Early great stream
Roshi wouldn't want to fly even if he had the options to do so - which he does. But cuz flying takes energy and seems to be the kinda guy with no matter how strong he'd get he'd want to store away as much power as he can before a fight.
when he gets rid of that pride he will become even more powerful if you notice when everyone started to fly their energy levels grow and progress much faster
Roshi must be training with Mr. Popo 😂
First Rule don't talk about Mr.Popo's training.

1:02 he didn't jump. He was always capable. They don't call him MASTER for nothing. A true Master never stops learning.
I am not upset at Roshi being strong, I’ve wanted him to have a bigger purpose as Goku’s master, rather than JUST being a pervert who occasionally gives advice, but someone with useful skills and can back up his title of master.
dbs power levels was so random and i love it
To be fair, it wasn't that Roshi was at that power level or speed.
I must have completely tuned out how bad the scaling was back when it aired 😂😂 They should’ve made an episode of Roshi, Kaio-Sama, and old Kaioshin training in the afterlife and doing some peeping after it 😂

master roshi is the embodiment of "never too late ",let's take exemple from him yall, we can do this
Theoretically, Roshi could be abusing the time chamber due to his eternal youth.
