  • i know many ppl has this problem so i thought on recording my way of fixing it
    so here it is!!
this video was made on a 04 Envoy 4.2L SLT
had this problem for a few years and i thought it was gone but i guess it wasn’t! as long as the truck was running everything was fine even on slow traffic, however on very hit days with AC running and slow traffic gauge wasn’t staying in the middle as it should and i thought it was my clutch again! had it replaced 2 years ago but every summer is the same story!! 4 days ago y drove about 400 to 500 miles without a problem and towing my jet-ski but 2 days ago i went to a friends house and left the truck running with AC on my girl was in there and when i came back i had a yellow warning light Check your Gages
the first thing i did was to look at my Tem but it was about 3/4 which is high but not as high then i noticed my oil gage was jumping up and down from Zero to a bit above the middle so i dove away and everything seem to go back to normal, next day i drove it to test the fan again and ran AC full blast after a while i noticed the Tem going up again so tha confirmed something was up with my Fan so i decided to look in to it and this was my Fix to this recurring Fan clutch problem!! now it works perfectly i can even hear and feel the Fan blowing way stronger!!
so bottom line you need to make sure you have a good Ground and a good pulse from your ECU even if your fan speed sensor isn’t working ECU will detect it and it’ll still send signal for the clutch to engage as it did on my video i think ECU has a backup program to activate it even without getting feedback from speed sensor just as it did for me..
    Good luck Guys

So we have a 2006 GMC Envoy. We were getting code P0526 Clutch Fan Sensor Circuit (and clutch fan wasn't engaging as it was supposed to). Clutch fan was recently replaced. After seeing your video, we didn't even go through the test light process. We just ordered a new 6 pin pigtail plug, replaced the plug and now clutch fan working as it's supposed to and engine light/code is gone. I will note, just as you showed in video, most of the wires on old plug fell out with very little tension. The plug we ordered was an ACDelco 6 pin multi-purpose pigtail. About $35.

Thanks for your excellent demo and fix description. My '40TB FC is just running about 200rpm low all the time. I suspect there isn't enough current to drive the magnet in the EM\fluidic control.

About three years ago we installed a new fan clutch and water pump both GM products. We have noticed earlier this summer the AC while sitting in traffic would get warm. I tried several things and it appeared that it was going to be the clutch fan. While going through UA-cam video clips I noticed yours. Low and behold I move the wire around and as I did that the clutch fan engaged. I later unplugged it sprayed both sides with electrical contact cleaner. So far it’s been working great. Your video saved me from putting on another fan clutch only to have the same issue. Another thing that I was looking at was having the PCM updated. but after tracking it down so far it is really working good and the AC is blowing cold in traffic and while moving. I want to thank you very much for posting your video it really saved me from spending money that didn’t need to be spent. Now later I might have to follow up and replace a wire if it acts up but at least I know where I have to walk. I can’t thank you enough!

While working on my TB, I left the connector hanging outside and when I closed the hood, I smashed it. The black housing plastic broke a peice off, but everything else looks fine. Now the a/c don't work, not sure if the fan is fully operational. It doesn't overheat, just that the a/c is not working anymore. You think the impact may have damaged the connector internally? Does the fan have to do anything with the a/c

@@FranciscoJavierOutdoors hello! get a plug at the junk there are plenty of TB and Envoys which are the same! One thing you need to be careful , truck may not overheat while Moving because wind is cooling it i had it like that for over a year until one days that was really hot and i was at a red light after getting off the FWY 😩 that it overheated! anyways you are better of replacing the plug its an easy task! AC doesn't have anything to do with Fan other than cooling Condenser, This is what i will do if it was my truck, i'll check if AC compressor is kicking in by turning on AC and visually checking you'll see it the front part rotate and stop, if it doesnt kick in you need to check Relay, Fuse and Gas Pressure, if gas is low it wont turn on! does tha Blower Work you just dont get cold Air?
AC fuse #30 Blower J-case Fuse # 35 AC relay #44 first thing swap #44&45 they are identical see if that fixes AC problem! if it does then u know u need a new relay if it doesn't check fuses mentioned if everything is good Freon may be below spec and wont let the compressor kick in

No and Thats the problem that you don't see it until its too late! it kind of overheated a bit the first time i saw it but i thought it was a one time malfunctions so i ignored it and the following summer it overheated! i replace the clutch this time but and thought everything was fine but 6 months later i started seen white film under oil Cap and you know what that means!! water going inside the engine head gasket!! so i had head re done thats when i decided to look deeper knowing it wasn't my clutch! and No Codes At all

I also performed the "signal test" with bulb and it seems that the signal to engage (or in my case disengage, since it runs like crazy all the time) the clutch is sent only within the first 6-7 seconds after the car starts then it disappears. No signal while revving the engine. Also, I am getting codes: P0526 and P0480. Can you please advise when to go next?

The electronic clutch was a short lived design and later ditched by GM.
The centre hub/clutch only lasts about 5 years or so and goes bad internally.

@@quirino18 my mechanic tried swapping out the wires and it still won't run
      140,000mi.
I'm North of Detroit where it was built, and it's cold most of the year.
I first drove it in August during a really hot day it ran at 212⁰. Didn't overheat but pushing it temp wise imo.
Now it's starting to snow here, and it's 209 to 210⁰ rock steady unless I crank the heater on fast. The fan spins slow
Supposedly the clutch is n/g (unless my mechanic missed something).
I was thinking of buying a standard e fan and also transmission cooler for next summer. It needs the tank pump assembly ($$$$) so don't want to spend on the short lived original fan replacement.
I generally like this SUV it's like a medium sized Suburban without the guzzling thirst of the suburban. The down side is the electrical stuff is very low quality.
Speedo and radio both work sporadically because of bad board contacts.
My liftgate also stuck in Lock. Snow melted into it and it's rusted internally.
The other doors were heavily oil sprayed and work like brand new.

No Bro im a Casual that happens to figure things out!
if your fan is doing the same thing you can start by Swapping your relay i remember there are 2 that are identical so just swap it to start troubleshooting, after put a lightbulb just as i did, when car reaches certain temp. fan should start getting pulsations from Computer so lightbulb should start blinking just like mine if it doesn't you may have broken wire as well! to test this put on end of the bulb in plug power just as i did and the other end to metal (ground) and try again accelerate to 1500rpm to get the signal from computer if bulb blinks after getting ground from metal your ground if bad somewhere! if this is your case you can run a wire from metal to the back of the plug its like running a new wire from fuse box to plug same thing! now to find out if power cable is the problem look at the electrical Diagram and find out which leg from the relay feeds it you can do this by putting a small wire under relay leg and putting relay back in and testing for signal there with either a multimeter if you got one or use the bulb, one end to ground and the other to cable coming out of relay until you find signal leg on relay! if it works right at relay you have a broken positive wire for sure at this point you can do 2 things remove fuse box and try finding the wire on the plug where relay connects which is below fuse box! ones you find the cable you can pinpoint broken area! remove relay and stick a metal paper clip or so to the signal plug then find a way to ground it use a wire from paper clip to metal (disconnect battery and plug from fan) ones you do that use a test light and poke the wire going to fan with test light, light should turn Green (ground) poke from plug going towards fan plug until test light doesn't turn on which is where you passed broken area just go back until you get green light again and figure where it stops turning on thats where broken cable is!!
2- way on the same plug you removed from fusebox you can strip the wire attach a new wire and run a new cable directly to the fan plug which will be replacing broken wire this will be the fastest way if broken wire is the problem
