This video saved my skin. My pump took a dump on the side of the road. And that's exactly where I changed it after coming across your video. Good job my dude.. saved me a tow and from having to pay someone to do it.. thanks!!!
Thank you so much Mr. Nate everyone I asked was unavailable. A mechanic wanted to charge me 900.00 to change my daughters water pump. But after doing research and getting the tools I needed I had the confidence to do it myself without taking off the fan might I add. Thank You sooooooo much for your video
@freddiewilliams I did every step in the video. I would play the video on my phone and then pause it while working on my daughters car. Try it that way
I understand that. So when you say you did it without taking the fan off you mean removing it out of the vehicle or did you find a way to do it without even messing with the fan
I replaced a water pump in my trailblazer about a year ago taking the shroud, fan, and fan clutch out it took me right at 2 hours to do that. Well that pump I replaced failed the internal seal in the pump gave out. I'm doing this job again tomorrow and this will save me a ton of time. Thank you for this video.
This works! I just tried this method and it works, although I choose not to change the water pump as the leak I have may be from. The timing cover if that even possible... With hand tools I say 30-45 minute job.
I, along with the many others, would like to thank you for taking the time to film and simplify it.. only part I messed up on was popping out fan clutch after leaving one bolt but other than that it was exactly as you said and showed. Thank you.
Where was this video when I looked for help on UA-cam to do this. This past Saturday was 4 hour's because all of the videos had me take out the fan, shroud, etc.
Hey, works for me..if I can find the right tools. Is that just a long handled ratchet ur using for the belt tensioner.?? Does the belt even need to come off doing it this way.??
Wow, I'm glad I saw this before I pulled the radiator, etc. Thank you so much. Did you use RTV on the water pump gasket? My pump has come with a simple paper gasket and I'm thinking I either need RTV or a higher quality metallic gasket.
What about the coolant that was lost when u pulled the water pump? Do you just lossen the upper radiator hose from radiator and fill it up and then run the vehicle after words???
Are all the water pumps for the 02 Envoy different now or am I missing something? I changed the water pump today and the thread on the pump I pulled off was all the way to the end but the new pump looked like the one in this video. A smooth 1/4 in or so with no thread at the end.. I didn't even notice until I started questioning my sanity. couldn't get the fan clutch to attach to it.
@@christownsend561 negative. Turns out my fan clutch was stripped but I've swapped out everything. Water pump, fan clutch, radiator and thermostat. Runs super quiet now.
If it's a dealership or independent shop yes that's in the labor guide , people find better ways to do things ,everyone is different and looks at thing differently!
Your fan side is wiggly loose when you go to put the pulley back. My fan is set in place with very little room. Why don't you show us the step where you make the fan loose and vocalize how that happened? Without that direction this is am aggravating method. Pumps swapped and now the pulley doesn't fit at all

Ive watched many videos on how to do this, best method by far. You are a true professional

Saved my ass. Thank you for the technique of not taking the fan off!!

@GreatNate Thanks BUDD😎🙏
Great video Nate, it took me longer than 25 minutes, but aleast I was able to avoid taking off the stroud. Thanks😂
Super great video bro I have this same job to do tomorrow and this really is going to safe me time on completing the job Super appreciated
That works as long as you're not replacing the fan clutch too!!👍👍
Thank you for saving me a lot of time. Very helpful video. Worked out great. God bless.

Nice
Thank you for filming this, it worked like a charm! As long as you torque everything to specs I don't see why this wouldn't be proper way to do it.
Thanks for that ,glad it worked out for you
I can confirm that this method is how GM techs change water pumps on Trailblazers
Any chance a coolant leak can come from timing cover?
I need to do this mañana.
Thanks for video I was about to take that damn fan off
Nice!!!
Great Nate Hack
You know!!!
How much coolant will I lose? Let's say on a full reservoir, will it empty the reservoir only, or will it leak additional coolant??
Dont need sealant on bolts? How about permatex around paper gasket?
What about the coolant that was lost when u pulled the water pump? Do you just lossen the upper radiator hose from radiator and fill it up and then run the vehicle after words???
Yes and make sure to bleed all the air out of the cooling system.
I couldnt really hear you...the key is leaving one bolt in the fan clutch?
What does unscrewing all but 1 do? Why not just leave them screwed in?
What size wrenches are you using
great. 08 trailblazer. now i dont have to revove all the other junk. just what i needed.

Was there a cover over the water pump threads?

If it takes him a half hour to change the pump dose he still charge the coustomer 455 hours labor?
If it's a dealership or independent shop yes that's in the labor guide , people find better ways to do things ,everyone is different and looks at thing differently!
What kind of air ratchet is that?
Hey bro what's the name of the tools you use to break the big bolts what size are they and what are they called ?
Fan clutch removal tool
How much do you need to put back in it?
How much coolant do you need to put back in it?😂
I cannot for the love of God get it off seems like it's rusted on there?
Some seize up if you in a Salt or chemical environment!
@@greatnate02 thank you I was able to get it off and it's now running like new
