    Best video on changing the oil on the 4 I have seen so far, clear and detailed recording.. Thanks

    You don’t need to grease the oil drain bolt. It already sits in motor oil

    I also have a 2023 4Runner pro. I have a suggestion for you. 10k miles in I changed the tires as the Nitto's it comes with has like a zero rating for now and ice. I put LT tires Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT (load range E 10ply) and besides it being better in snow it also completely changed the ride for the better. It feels more planted, takes bumps better and doesnt wallow over the road. Made me love the 4runner even more.

      Thanks a ton, great suggestion! I appreciate you taking the time to let me know about something that works well! The 4Runner is such a great machine, and the right tires can make all the difference. Now I have something else to get installed on the 4Runner. :) Enjoy your awesome ride!

      Love the tutorial. May i suggest not using 0w-8 0w-16 0w-20 unless you livebelow 0. Even 5w-20 winter or 5w-30 for summer giving better hot temperature protection

    Glad to see someone else using Costco oil. I’ve been using it in 3 Toyotas. One of them for over 5 years and never had any issues. It’s so much more affordable than the big name brands.

    Jon with your help I was able to hit a manhood milestone and finally did my first ever oil change with my 5th Gen 4Runner TRD ORP Lunar Rock…. The feeling of this accomplishment has me feeling all full of Fanta, drinking modelos and attacking the old lady in the sack tonight, thanks big fella!

    Have a 23 TRD off road in lunar rock….first change 700km. Lots of metal….second 1300km little metal, third 2500km. No metal. First couple oil changes in any new motor are crucial to longevity. Love this vehicle and it will love you back.

      Did one at 900 miles, lot of metal, second one at 2852 no metal. plan to do one every 3k miles.

      @@rositahl I just started using 5w30. I think the 0 20 is not good in the hotter weather.

    Great video. The only thing I’d add is to get the skid plate bolts in by hand before hitting it with an impact. My local dealership was kind enough to NOT do that and cross threaded the bolts. Great video

    Very nice job! Very nice video. 👍🏻 I do my own oil changes as well. Try Amsoils oil and filter kit. It’s on the expensive side but it’s worth it if you hold on to your vehicles for a long time. That 4Runner is pretty sweet if you keep taking care of it like that it will last forever.

    You got the last of 4Runners the new models not as heavy duty. I enjoy changing my oil. also when I purchased my new vehicle I opt out on the free oil changes they over tightened everything and sloppy work. Thank You

      @shawnhuntermark3995 29 днів тому

      I agree, not worth going to the dealer for free oil changes when you can do them yourself at home no two hour wait at the dealer

  • @Mario-lj7gm
    @Mario-lj7gm Місяць тому

    I leave the filter plug alone as you did per the Car Care Nut's advice as they don't remove it at the dealership to save time and it's perfectly fine if you're ok with wiping off a bit more mess. You don't want to add oil all the way to max on a cold(er) engine or during oil change as oil will later expand and rise on a hot engine. Those dots are min and max for oil level so just stop in the middle. Having said that, I can almost never tell exactly where I'm at looking at the dipstick as it's so hard to see. Very nice video.

    Thank you bought a 2023 trd off road premium and will do my oil changes also. Question does it drain well using ramps? Just the regular gorilla ramps that are not too crazy high.

    • @throttle-onJohn
      @throttle-onJohn  8 місяців тому +3

      Great purchase! Yes, where the drain plug is located, using ramps shouldn't effect what drains out, good question! If you are concerned, you could sacrifice 1/8 quart or so of new oil and pour it in topside to help displace anything that could be in the bottom of pan with drain plug still out, but that isn't necessary. Go for it! 😊

    if you Look on the OTHER side of the dip stick, where the dimples stick OUT, it is easier to see,,, I had a HARD time getting a read on the dip stick,,, I had to wait for all the oil to get into the pan,, and give it a little time after you add a little more to get the level reading..

    I believe those are trd filters good for 20,000 miles service great for doing 5,000 mile intervals with a oil extractor then you won't have to take that plate off and change the filter as frequent

    Great video, thanks for posting this, like another person commented that this is the best video so far with your clear explanations on all the steps. Just one question, I noticed you said you changed your oil at 3,000 miles? Or 6 months? So you don't do it every 5,000 miles (due to driving habits) or every 10,000 miles like Toyota recommends. BTW, nice well lit garage!

    I have STOPPED using the Toyota oil plug washers. They have a fiber blue coating on each side and after 3000 miles the coating
    Separates from the aluminum washer and I have to retrieve the coating and I find the drain plug is not tight any longer on the oil
    Pan.. I wrote Toyota regarding the problem and just received a non specific thanks for the information. Clearly they have their hands full with engine and transmission replacements. I have gone to copper washers NISSAN on my toyotas

    My 20 year old Matrix has zero leaks since e bought it new. My Brother just bought a 2024 Rav4, at 400 miles he had an oil leak. They had to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket. Not making them like the old days.

    I'm new to the 4.0 and Toyota engine oil filters, why do I see some of the oil filter housing tools say 64 mm or 64.3mm? Please advise and thanks in advance

    After about 20 oil changes with those blue crush washers, they seem to corrode after a short time and the drain bolt loses it's tightness and may cause an oil leak. I toque them down pretty good after seeing so many where you can take the drain bolt off by hand. And I am using toyota branded ones, not chinese or anything.

    Aren't you voiding your warranty by not using Mobil or Toyota oil?

  • @totalannihilation9065
    @totalannihilation9065 5 місяців тому

    This is a very detailed explanation. Thanks.
    The only thing that I don't agree with is that you're changing your oil every 3k miles. Isn't that overdoing it? Specially with full synthetic which toyota recommends every 7,500 to 10,000 miles and 3000 to 5000 for conventional oil.
    It's your money, just something to point out.

    • @justahumbledude
      @justahumbledude 2 місяці тому

      Care Care nut says 5k / 6mos for synthetic unless you're taking long trips...then you're closer to 10k miles
      For turbo engines...it's recommended for 3k miles.

    I actually just leave the original washer on it and re-use it. I do the same thing with my filter, just let it drain out slowly without taking that small cap out.

    If you REALLY want to take “good” care of your 4Runner, (or any Toyota) You should really use Toyota or at minimum a premium brand oil. But you will NEVER go wrong with using the factory oil. Even CCN says, don’t use aftermarket parts or fluids if at all possible. Then they will last 1,000,000 miles.

    • @frankv64
      @frankv64 4 місяці тому +1

      Kirkland is good oil. I use it and change it at 3k miles. It will definitely last 5k miles
