    I have a pair of Sure Grip Fames that I got in June. They're my first pair of skates and I love them. I wasn't sure what kind of skating I was going to do when I first got them. I do a lot of park/aggressive skating now, and although I'm beating them to heck, they're holding up really really well through all my falls/bails and abuse I've put them through. Definitely a great first skate!

    • @samanthafitzgerald9611
      @samanthafitzgerald9611 3 роки тому +4

      Totally agree! I've been park skating in mine for four months now and they have held up really well!
      That being said, this weekend, the plate has started to come loose from the boot due to the riveted hardware compressing the front interior of the boot. Replacing the hardware is a real pain, but the boot is still in such great shape that I will just replace the hardware or swap the plates with something more park appropriate.

      @@peptobismol3949 I got new Bont boots specifically for park skating in the last couple months- and they are definitely more suited for it than the Sure Grips (tho I still love them dearly with all my heart). You definitely start with them at the park, but may eventually have to upgrade your boot or plates etc. I also did have some issues with loosing nuts and washers for my plate sometimes when I was skating really hard at the park with them. So something to keep in mind- but it is a nice boot for sure, but will depend on what you completely intend on doing with it!

    my boyfriend and I both have these! We both have super wide feet and both find them extremely comfortable. When I practice inside I straight up don't have to wear socks (i still do bc sweaty feet are gross BUT it's definitely comfy enough to not need them). I feel super supported in these, and I honestly don't see myself ever updating to a new skate. Maybe changing the plate once I get more into park skating, but otherwise I see no reason to ever upgrade. I definitely only skate as a casual hobby so it was nice to buy something that was high quality, wouldn't break the bank, and I wouldn't have to replace in 4 months like the impala!

    I don't think Sure-Grip is trying to intentionally disguise the rock plate as metal, since they offer this plate in many colors, including gray. The plate color options when purchasing the skate went away almost immediately after the pandemic began and I think this just has to do with high demand. My theory is they're just using what they have to meet the demand for skates.
    I have been skating on the Fames for six months and I do genuinely adore them. The only complaint I have is the fact that all Sure-Grip skates come with the plates riveted to the boots, but again, this isn't unique to the Fames.
    I've been park skating in my Fames for a few months now, and I don't yet have concerns over plate integrity, but the rivets seem to compress the boot interior over time and loosen the plate with no way to fix it besides removing the hardware and replacing it. From personal experience, the rivets are very difficult to remove, so it's not just an annoyance, but a real pain in the knuckles (literally).
    But I love the boot so much, now that my plates are loose, I plan to replace them with a metal plate and continue using them at the park until the wheels fall off (hopefully not literally!).
    Thank you for reviewing this skate! ❤️

    I just bought a pair. Mine are a pretty lavender so I am guessing they came out with that color later then when this vid was filmed. My nylon plates are black, not gray, so they must have changed that too. I actually went to the skate shop expecting to buy a pair of Chaya Elite skates. Unfortunately, the largest size squished my toes. I tried the Sure Grips and they fit my feet. I don't think I have particularly wide feet, but my feet aren't dainty either. I like to skate with wool socks. These skates fit just fine even with wool. I can also tighten the laces if I want to skate with a thinner cotton/cotton blend sock. I am hoping they'll be good skates for quite a while. I skated as a kid. I am now middle aged and just getting back into skating. I consider myself a beginner now. Apparently, skating is not like riding a bike. I had to relearn how to balance on quads. Sheesh, I did not expect that. I want to learn to dance and to skate outside. I have terrible memories of hitting small rocks and falling with my old clamp-on, metal wheeled, outdoor skates I had as a kid. I know that the modern gummier wheels are much better, but I don't feel comfortable enough to try skating in my street just yet.

    I’m watching you lace up your speed lace eyelets and noticed that you wrap around from the top to the bottom. Is there any particular reason why? Have I just been doing it wrong all along going bottom to top lol? I’d love to learn why and if it’s more helpful in away. I’m always down for any and all help I can get to improve.
    Thanks for this review too. I’ve been wanting the golden hour flames SO bad but I’ve got wide feet so it’s good to know they should fit ok, especially since I went ahead and ordered them a few hours ago 😂 . 🖤

      I’m pretty sure wrapping them top to bottom helps preserve the hooks a little better than bottom to top. Once you lose those its game oveeerrr so anything to help them stay in tact best! 😋

    I'm cracking up because you're saying the exact same things I thought when I tried them on. (I got lucky and was able to try on a couple different pair. Thought I wanted Boardwalks but that boot touched my ankle and my ankle said HELL NAW!) They really do feel like clouds. I took them to the rink last night and had a GREAT time with them. My right foot is slightly bigger than my left and the R boot is a bit snug but I think going up a full size would have made them too big (I don't like socks and no, I dont feel like I have to wear socks in my skates except maybe to eliminate pressure from the edges of the tongue? but then again if that's an issue the boot is likely too tight. The artistic wheels that came with mine were VERY slippery on the rink floor, I bought some Radar Energy 62s and paired with Redz Bones bearings, gonna take em outside soon as my knees stop screaming (I'm considering taking my quadline wheels/trucks and having them mounted on some 37 boots, I bet that's gonna be a hell of a ride. My plan to give these girls some razzle dazzle is to make some custom boot covers... gonna tackle that in the next few days. I have idears **evil chuckle** I got them at a great price too (the people at the shop seemed to think they were mislabeled bc they were marked as a 9 but I was told that this pair didn't fit like a 9? whatever I got em and I'm in LOVEEEEE)

    I have Fames and my plate is black, not gray! not sure what the deal is with them trying to paint it silver… if i had to guess, i’d say they wanted to match the coloration and aesthetic of the metal trucks, cuz Sure-Grip doesn’t seem like the kind of company that would have to TRICK people into thinking their nylon plates are metal, y’know?
    Seems like a questionable (at best) aesthetic choice, but i’m glad my plates are black and not painted!!
    I’m a beginner artistic skater and i got my Fames in September; i skate in them 4-5 days a week, and they’re an absolute dream.
    If any fellow beginner/aspiring artistic skaters are reading this and they’re looking to purchase a SOLID pair of intro skates at a great price point, i HIGHLY recommend Sure-Grip Fames!!

    • @FluiidGliitch
      @FluiidGliitch 3 роки тому

      Are your wheels fit for outdoor use? Usually softer wheels (78a hardness) are better for outdoors, and also smaller wheels (57mm vs. 65mm) can help too so you're not as high up from the ground! But outdoors is definitely a totally different beast from skating indoors, so I'm hoping with more practice it can come to you!
