      If you can fit this system into a stryfe, then you can turn said ultimastryfe into a perfect nerf flywheel blaster. I found an AUG kit for the strife on NF strike. It's abysmally cool.

      So basicly you skipped the dual stage trigger?

    Bruh, an FDL-2+ electronics kit is 229. Call it 245 with filament. You're at 235 here before body kits and you do absolutely zero soldering with an FDL kit.

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому +6

      Completely viable if you have a printer, if you don't that gets a bit more problematic. Also way easier/cheaper on this build if you use the Stryfe like god intended and you're not some idiot doing things that shouldn't be done because they can.

    • @bdbeckstrand
      @bdbeckstrand 6 років тому +1

      There is no soldering for the drop-in kit. If you want selectfire, it is an option.

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому +5

      That's also true, in fact the only thing I had to physically do with the Bex Blaster kit was extend the negative on the knob because I wanted it in the grip. Wiring wise it was a really easy thing, in fact if I was doing this in a Stryfe it would have been dead simple and only taken an hour or so.
      But I hate myself, so I make things complicated.

    As the maker of the ultra cage shown here I would not expect Super high fps with the barrel it has ... the cage comes with different options. One for accuracy like this one and no Intergrated barrel for more fps

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому +2

      Wait, if I remove the barrel I'll get higher FPS?

    • @Ultrasonictwo
      @Ultrasonictwo 6 років тому +3

      That barrel is much narrower .. to improve accuracy .. so if you remove the 3d printed barrel and REPLACE it with the "inserts" you'll get more FPS ...BUT you also added a barrel to it which hurts the FPS... It's all about what you want... if you are limited to 150 FPS .. you might as well have the barrel insert.. ALSO there is a large number of different wheels with different crushes .. that will obviously affect FPS.. and dart damage.

    I wonder if the flywheels would grab the darts better at high speed if you waxed them. Has anyone ever tried that? Like just a plain old emergency stick candle, and just lightly chalk the wheels

    • @Flygonial
      @Flygonial 6 років тому

      Bit late of a reply, but there's one major reason - anything adhered or attached to a flywheel that isn't part of it alone will fly off in operation. The edge of a 33mm diameter flywheel (stock) spinning at 30,000 RPM experiences around 17,000 g's of radial acceleration - anything to improve grip will have plenty of trouble staying on. It's an idea that's been explored early on (with plasti-dipping wheels, for example), and it hasn't stuck - pun intended.
      That said, a layer of melted foam does build-up along flywheels that does eventually boost velocity. Considering a flywheel material that just generates more friction may also be something to consider.
      That said, the flywheel must always at least slip a little bit relative to the dart. Much smarter people than I such as Ryan from MTB have also went over this years ago: www.dropbox.com/s/99zm16941jmui58/Flywheel%20Physics.pdf

    Ok. Your “Poor Man’s FDL” claim had me incredibly curious, so I did some shopping. Here are the results:
    The following prices are for unassembled “kits” of blasters
    Your “Poor Man’s FDL” as listed and shipped (to me) costs $343.70.
    An actual FDL 2+ kit with mag release lever (cause I’m spoiled and fancy) shipped (again to me for consistency) costs $321.00
    So.....a “Poor Man’s FDL” is actually the FDL 2+ in this comparison. The thing is, it goes further than that...
    In this video you brought up how difficult this blaster was to assemble in great length. Assuming that is true because you are a quite skilled modder (that isn’t sarcasm. You make great blasters. Don’t take this criticism as me trying to take that from you :) ), the average consumer looking to build a $300+ blaster would be muuuuuch better off making an FDL 2+, right?
    In the end, you made a great blaster, but I believe you are wrong in calling it a “Poor Man’s FDL” in every foreseeable capacity. A comparable FDL is cheaper and easier to make. The only reason yours was cheaper is because you have the privilege of being a UA-camr and getting a discount because of that.

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому +1

      The problem you have here is that you're completely ignoring the fact that both the Flywheel cage and the Select Fire kit will drop into a Stryfe in about an hour with about 40 minutes of that being cutting with a hobby knife and only soldering two points: the battery connectors for both drop-in kits. So you have the Stryfe, which you probably already own, the Select Fire kit, and the Brushless Setup which would cost you around 200$ in parts (135 or so for the loom and 65 or so for the kit depending on what Lightake is doing that day because their prices jump like crazy) unless you're buying one of the new Stryfes at full-retail and would be completely solid. *I* made this significantly harder by putting this into a Swordfish (which, again, isn't really that much more than a Stryfe at retail but you should already have said Stryfe) and adding the body kit stuff into the price is completely unfair as well as the FDL doesn't come with anything special cosmetically either.
      The main point of the video was on the fact that you can pick up the brushless setup and the select fire kit, drop it into a Stryfe (a blaster that looks infinitely better IMO than the FDL 2+/X), and get similar results (high velocity, adjustable velocity, select-fire, adjustable rate of fire, ammo counting, volt meter and alarm, more stuff I probably don't remember). In fact, this kit is apparently supposed to hit harder than an FDL but I was unable to verify that because of the problem I was having getting traction on the darts. The other point was that I'm a colossal idiot who wastes time and energy doing things that shouldn't be done because he thinks he can, and I just honestly wanted a completely unique Swordfish out there.
      TL:DR Use a Stryfe instead of a swordfish and the build makes more sense as a poor-mans FDL, and don't count the cosmetic furniture because it's not like the FDL includes body kits, stocks, and grips in it's pricing.

    • @heathvizier6417
      @heathvizier6417 6 років тому

      The aesthetic stuff doesn’t really add much to the price, and if we are comparing buying a Stryfe shell and a swordfish body these days it’s pretty even, but I’ll drop $10 on that too.
      On bare bones vs. bare bones with that into account you’ve saved maybe $20 or $30 on two blasters that are right at the $300 range.
      I get where you’re going, but that’s just not a “Poor mans” anything in this hobby. I’d hope we can agree on that.

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому +1

      Why are we not comparing this to the FDL 3? That's what I was comparing it to in this video, which is $409. The drop-in brushless kit with a V6 selectfire kit pre-wired is $230 from Bex Blasters, and you most likely already own the Stryfe it goes into which is the same form-factor of the FDL 3. You then also have access to all of the other parts that work on the Stryfe, while having similar performance and features. That was the entire point I was making about it being a poor-man's FDL. It's not the same (the FDL has more features and a much better UI than this thing ever will), but it's comparable on the field for a far cheaper build.

    • @heathvizier6417
      @heathvizier6417 6 років тому +1

      I didn’t compare it to anything but the 2+ because that’s the only fair gauging point of the blaster in question here.
      At this point you’re comparing a $230 parts kit to a completely finished and ready to go blaster, which isn’t fair to either side of this debate.
      I’m comparing the necessary kits to achieve finished blasters and eliminating those variables because in the end that is the only fair gauging point.
      With all of that now behind us, I still stand at the benefit being marginal ($20-30) and neither complete system being suitable for anyone in “Poor Man’s” status.
      As for performance, that would be a rather fun one to test. Do you happen to have an FDL to compare it to in a follow up video? If not I’ll go ahead and make an UltraStryfe and compare them.
      This whole thing was initially sparked by intrigue, and still is. I, like you, am looking for the most bang for my (and many other’s) buck.

    • @WalcomS7
      @WalcomS7  6 років тому

      If I could buy an FDL 3 as a kit I probably would have, I really hope that's a thing coming, until then this is the only thing I could compare it to because the FDL 2+/X is kind of an ugly duckling that isn't compatible with a whole lot and a lot of people would take this form factor and pay more over an FDL 2s design.
      I guess I should have been more specific and said Poor man's FDL 3, I figured it was implied. I again don't have an FDL myself, but Brett/Luke/Gloria do and I should be able to get some kind of comparison video and hopefully figure out why mine hits about the same FPS at half-speed than it does at full-speed. That being said, I've fired an FDL 2X at max velocity (I just heard the 3 has a higher velocity but Brett says it's 170 as he just unloaded the thing at full velocity into himself point blank to see how much it hurts) and this is just as much. I'm not getting the 200-220 FPS advertised by the kit, but I feel like I've done something wrong... like a stick the damned kit in the wrong blaster. Benefit compared to those as well was the rev trigger, which you can see I made sure this build had over the FDL 2 (I have been told the FDL 3 has a programmable rev trigger of some type).
      I will definitely compare both, as that's something the community needs to know. The UltraStryfe is the exact thing this is based off of I believe, just with the added brains from the V6 Kit to make it function similarly to an FDL.
