    to save time on the corners you can cut a full sheet in half. use each half as the srarter for the same corner. the you dont have to work with small detatched tiles.

    Love this video Sal...I didn't see an answer to several people asking about leaving a gap between the tile and counter top (apologies if I missed it) but I don't think you actually need a gap in this case. You just need to seal the bottom edge of the tile with caulk for water proofing like you did in the video. The gap people are referring to is actually known as an "expansion gap" which I don't think applies for this sheet style tile. Correct me if I'm wrong however.

    know the name of the tool you use at the beginning of this video... GREAT IDEA... but what

    Very Good Job Sal! You gave me confidence as a woman to do this on my own!! Great step by step instructions!! I have one question though. It looks so pretty when your done! I just attended a workshop and learned to install a back splash, but I have a few questions they didn't address. Would you mind answering then, and thank you in advance. :) 1) What did you use to patch the wall (I think you said @ 2:00, but I couldn't hear it)? 2 (3 questions in 1) What was the process of removing the outlet covers and taping them? Was it that simple or more complicated? When you screw the outlet covers back on, do they just fit? 3) Did you caulk the space between the tile and where it meets the counter top by the sink? if so, do you have a video on caulking? Again, thanks in advance for your answers.

      My guess it that you should probably seal the tile before you grout it, if the stone part of you tile has a lot of voids in it, they will be filled by the grout and will have an entirely different look when grouted.

    Hi Sal, I'm about to do this in my shower today. The mosaic glass sheet tile and the 12x24 tile are the same thickness 1/4". Can I use the same 1/2" trowel to set the mosaic glass tile on wall so it can be the same evenness when done? I'm only doing one 12" vertical line right in the middle straight up on backwall of a 3x5 shower. And can I use the same MAPEI brand large format wall tile thinset? It's white thinset. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  5 років тому

      You will find that the 1/2" trowel will not work well with the mosaic tile. You should set the field first leave the pace for the mosaic tile to add it after. Glass tile requires a mortar that is suitable for glass. The thinset you use for the larger tile may not be appreciated.

    Excellent video. The info regarding matching the tiles at the inside corners was something I hadn't thought about. Question: Each mat usually comes packaged on a white cardboard. It seems to me that for those glass tiles that are somewhat translucent (you can see through them to some degree) the color of the thinset could affect the final color. Correct?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  10 років тому

      Sone glass tiles are in fact transparent and require an additional step during installation to insure 100% coverage, and the color of the thinset will greatly affect the look of the final product.

  • @atorch4umbb
    @atorch4umbb 4 роки тому

    What type of thin-set did you use to get the uniform surface across the wall, I could not make out what you said please? And also what type of mastic or thin set are you using as an adhesive for the tile? I guess I am confused as it appears you are using one thin set for the smooth surface and another product for your adhesive. Thank you for the video as it was very informative and helpful.

    hi! love ur video! I will be installing a glass mosaic tile backsplash in my kitchen.Thin-set mortar for glass specifically, right? any particular grout used? (sanded or unsanded? Premixed? brand u trust for glass mosaic backsplashes?) what kind of (wet)saw & blades do u use? Do you caulk the edges of the tiles at the end of the wall (with the polished tile pieces)? Thanks! :)

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  7 років тому +2

      Yes to all above, Tec Superflex thinset is a good one, unsanded grout is probably best no use a glass specific blade on the wet saw, caulk all changes of plain and where tile meets a dissimilar material.

    Good job but at the end tiles its always better to use a edge strip...looks cleaner and protects the tiles.

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  11 років тому

      I would agree with you if this was a floor where the edge of the tile needs protection. With glass tiles backsplashes i polish the edges where needed so that the tile ends without the need to add a strip to finish the tile. That way you get a nice clean look without adding a vertical line at the end, but of coarse this is just my opinion and how to end the tile is really a mater of taste and entirely subjective.

      Grout with covers on because I don't like electrical shocks, and the bottom is caulked with a color matching caulk, not grout.

    Outstanding video first of all! I have a problem where the top edge of my formica counter top and my window trim are a 1/2 inch off from one side to the other. 36 inch wide window and only a 2 inch gap on one side and 2 1/2 on the other. 2 peices of glass tile are 2 inches. What would be the best way to fudge it.

      Not sure you can fudge it.

      So do I just cut the top row at a angle?

      I don't think there is much else you can do.

    Hi again,
    I did not see that you verify the level of the granite counter and top cabinet before you install the glass mosaic tile ( I believe you did verify the level ).
    1. What will you do (when installing this glass mosaic tile) if you have a 1/8 of an inch slope every 1 feet or so from both granite and top cabinet in such a way that the distance between cabinet and granite counter is the same ? and what will you do if only the granite counter has a 1/8 slop every feet or so ?
    2. I did not see that you maintain a space between the glass mosaic tile to the granite counter, Is this because you are tiling glass ?
    Thanks for the great video, help a lot.

    Thanks Sal! We removed a backsplash of 4" tiles last week that removed a lot of paper and had to piece in a small patch of drywall to repair a hole. Removed all the old mastic and was advised to put a coating of Gardz on everything since we accidentally did the patch with regular joint compound and mesh tape. Should we be good to set glass tile mosaics at this point. Everything is flat.

      can't really say because i have no way of seeing it in person, but it sounds like you are good to go.

      Wet saw with a Diamond blade for cutting glass.

    Hi Sal. Great video. I read somewhere that we should use silicone caulking for an expansion joint @ the corners. Your thoughts?

      Does not have to be silicone, siliconized latex caulk will work just fine.

    Sal, I installed a white quarry interlocking mosaic stone for my backsplash, but after grouting, it seems really dull as if a haze is covering the whole thing. It's not something that will come off with just a dry towel or something. Can you please recommend a product or what to do? My beautiful stone is totally dull, man. Thank you and I subscribed.

      Did you seal the stone before grouting, if not, then that could be the cause. As far as getting it off, well there is the problem, if it is a delicate stone then harsh cleaners will just create bigger problems. This is really not my area of expertise, so I can't offer a solution. You might be able to find some help here www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=2fdd90c69e4dce22c9bb103842b9478c&f=16

      I absolutely sealed before grouting : ) I'm starting to think the problem may be with the yellow lighting against the gray stone. It creates a "dull" tint. I'm going to install track lighting with different color lights or maybe under cabinet lighting and I think that may solve the issue. Thanks for replying, really appreciate your videos.
