I have a big geode, and the inside is an awesome display of crystal. I was told this one was cut smoothly with a diamond saw. It has a rough outside crust that goes inward several millimeters but the inside is a beautiful quartz-looking mass.
I actually went to dugway quite a few years ago. Spent the whole day digging for geodes. It was very exciting and did find some very nice specimens not huge but very pretty! Liked this video
Never heard of thunder eggs. Definitely Mother nature at her best. Was fun watching how you actually get the geode cracked. Loved the striped Chalcedony. Using the saw looked mighty dangerous, good thing you guys are professionals.
The only real danger from using the saw is if the blade broke, i have never had a blade break on me in the many years i have been cutting. These blades are dull, they use the diamond layer to scrape away the material, they are not like a normal saw blade. The geode cracker however is way too messy and far more dangerous than the saw which is why i dont use one.

Came here to check out geodes since I've had a really nice solid one for well over 40 years, but have never had it appraised. After seeing this and a few other videos, I'm starting to think I have something relatively rare. Mine is about the size of a professional baseball and is cut in half. The inside is solid with layers of white on the rim of the round the is layers in a light blue in alternating layers to a dark blue surrounding the center and the back to a lighter blue for the very center. The more info I get, the more I appreciate what I have. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks Rockhounds!!!✌️👍🤙

Had no thought of a pipe cutter popping geode's. all's New to me (recently addicted to rock picking) used to roll and throw them, now I fill my pockets and shelves 😀 wishes my memory was better, I've been stomping around Oregon and Washington for 50+year's and many times picked up interesting rocks, never really thought anything about it.. now I see things differently. Maybe age, probably the Wonder of the possible and a better idea of the geology it takes to make these increadible specimens.. I'm subd. So looking forward to more!!! Good days 2U
Man. I don't know why but I always seem to get the craziest Geodes. Living in Utah we have them available but for some reason I always seem to aim for the Geodes that I expect to make like a nice piece to display and they end up being crap inside and then I'll find these really ugly geodes that are lopsided and they'll end up with beautiful caverns inside with really even druzy or Chalcedony. I got one the other day I had trouble cutting open because of the size but it was like half thunderegg half geode but inside there was this really strange crystal inside that terminated into I can only explain as like melting citrine icicles. It was almost like a stalagmite formation but the very end looks just like a crystal clear drop of water about to drip. It looks just like water about to fall but it's a solid crystal. Really odd. I had no idea that they glowed under black light either. You just caused me to have to pull out all my geodes now to check for glowers. Thanks. Lol. Awesome video. What did you do to make that geode crack setup?
I think you could wrap a bit of rope or a heavy rubber band around the geode after putting it in the chain just to keep the pieces from flying off and possibly smashing onto the floor. Or just do it on the ground.
on the end card...you have a pic of a crystal next to a rock that looks like pieces stuck together. What is that? I have one of those and never knew what it was, or even what to google to look it up.
Geodes are definitely natures mystery boxes.

Is there any point in X-raying the geode first to determine the plane that will yield the most interesting result when cracked or cut?
Good question
Why is this so satisfying?
I have a question. I've seen for sake in shops a variety of colors in geodes and thunderegg rocks. How are they dyed to make them different colors??

Don't believe that for a second.

That was fun! Just found you and I'm glad!
The Bob Ross of Geodes...?

Perhaps a slow-mo cam can be set a little wider to get the gorgeous pop action.
I miss panning for gold at Knotts berry farm back in the day was fun very exciting
You guys are amazing keep up all the good work!!🔥🔥🔥💛💛💛
Wow!! How can we see that did u post it? Thanks!
That sounds like an amazing geode!
He called it a pipe cutter in the video.
I think you could wrap a bit of rope or a heavy rubber band around the geode after putting it in the chain just to keep the pieces from flying off and possibly smashing onto the floor. Or just do it on the ground.
I've seen some with water inside. Some people pay alot for the water inside and yet so many let the water just spill on the ground.
Is it just me or do geodes look really good to eat
Oh shut up! This annoying ass long ass video played mid roll in my asmr video!!!
@@Coffeeisnecessarynowpepper ???
I would slice that last one. My favorite was the one with the blues and yellow .
So amazing !
on the end card...you have a pic of a crystal next to a rock that looks like pieces stuck together. What is that? I have one of those and never knew what it was, or even what to google to look it up.
3 turns 🍭
Holy cow!
Have you ever seen any that look like very bumpy cauliflower outside and are solid clear crystals inside?
Haw do you know what to look for when hunting them? I'd like to find my own sometime.
I’d love to use an oblong one as a shot glass!
These are the geodes you're looking for... ☺
What a crude method at the start of the video. I would prefer a clean cut edge... 🤔
Not really depends on what looks you are after
I went looking for the geodes and they were sold out,,I was just kind of wondering how much you were selling them for
that was fun I didn't know them junts be glowing in the black light
